Invesco Aerospace & Defense ETF (NYSEMKT:PPA) offers a long track record and broad industrial exposure, while Global X Defense Tech ETF (NYSEMKT:SHLD) provides a lower-cost, technology-focused approach to the defense sector.
Defense spending often stays resilient throughout various economic cycles, making aerospace and defense exchange-traded funds a popular choice for investors seeking sector-specific growth. While both funds target the same broad industry, they differ in their approach to legacy hardware versus emerging technologies and software-defined systems. This comparison looks at how the veteran PPA stacks up against the newer SHLD.

Elon Musk once again hinted at a possible deepening of collaboration, perhaps even a merger, between his two major companies: Tesla (TSLA) and ****** eX (SPCX).
Speaking at the All-In Summit last night, Musk said it was a great question whether the two companies would remain separate despite several avenues for collaboration.
"With all this collaboration, on so many levels, who can imagine what action one might take when there's so much close collaboration in so many areas," he said.
Yahoo Finance reached out to ****** eX regarding Musk's comments about a possible merger but did not immediately hear back.
It's not the first time Musk has spoken of this possibility. Reports suggested he had openly discussed the possibility of a merger between the two companies prior to ****** eX's June IPO.

Is there anything prettier than a consistently uptrending stock price chart? I'm drawn to these types of charts. I've always thought a consistent uptrend is an indication of strong buying power for a stock. However, while I can tell you if a chart looks like a consistent, methodical trend, it's hard to define it using data, which is necessary to create an indicator. That's why, until now, I've never put numbers behind my theory.
I won't go into the details, but using moving averages over various time frames, I've created a ranking system for stocks with the most consistent uptrends and downtrends over the past three months. Using this ranking system, Docusign (DOCU) is one of the top uptrending stocks. That's a pretty chart, if I do say so myself. When I see a chart like this, I think, why would it stop now?
In this week's article, I'll test my theory with actual numbers and see if DOCU and other stocks like it are good bets, like my instincts have always led me to believe.
For this study, I went back to 2024 and picked the 18th of each month, which corresponds to the end of this week. I used my trend ranking system to find the 30 stocks in the strongest uptrends and the 30 in the most consistent downtrends. Then, I tracked how each group performed over the next month of trading. The table below summarizes the results.
My instincts look correct based on the average returns of the stocks. The top uptrending stocks averaged a return of 2.15% over the next month, while the most consistently downtrending stocks averaged a return of 1.57%. The other stocks averaged 1.84%, falling between the two groups.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: $BMNR) added another 28,086 Ether (CRYPTO: $ETH) to its holdings last week, bringing the company closer to its goal of controlling 5% of Ethereum's total supply.
The purchase, worth about $69.4 million at Tuesday's price of roughly $2,472 per ETH, lifted Bitmine's holdings to 5.93 million ETH, the company announced Tuesday. That represents about 4.9% of Ethereum's 122 million circulating supply, leaving the company around 171,000 ETH short of its target.
Bitmine has purchased Ether every week since launching its Ethereum treasury strategy in June 2025. The latest acquisition was smaller than the 53,501 ETH bought the previous week. Still, maintaining this pace would put the company within reach of its 5% goal in less than two months.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Select Growth Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Select Growth Fund targets U.S. businesses driving significant structural change through disruptive innovation. The fund returned 23.2% in the quarter, outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index at 16.7%. U.S. large-cap growth equities rebounded sharply, driven by improving corporate fundamentals and renewed investor confidence in AI, despite geopolitical uncertainties. However, the market's gains were narrow, concentrated among AI beneficiaries. The portfolio's success stemmed from strength in AI infrastructure holdings, especially memory and storage, supported by better pricing and tightening supply. As AI development advances, continuous demand for compute capacity is expected, prompting investments in memory, CPUs, AI chips, and semiconductor manufacturing to address emerging bottlenecks essential for scaling AI. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Select Growth Fund highlighted Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS), a specialty metals manufacturer serving diversified industries. Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS), held since 2025 with a 4.2% portfolio weight, contributed 1.7% to the Fund's performance this quarter. On September 1, 2026, Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) closed at $473.06 per share. Over the past month, Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) declined 17.06%, while its shares are up 100.69% over the past year. Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) has a market capitalization of $23.44 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $228.00 to $625.99.
Sands Capital Select Growth Fund stated the following regarding Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) is a leading supplier of specialty nickel alloys for the aerospace industry. Fiscal third quarter results reinforced our margin thesis as the company demonstrated significant operating leverage as the aerospace equipment cycle continued to recover. Specialty Alloys Operations generated an 86 percent incremental margin in a quarter when volume grew at its strongest rate since the post-COVID aerospace recovery. In our view, the results helped validate that Carpenter's earnings power can continue to expand as the business benefits from improving volume, pricing, and mix. We maintain conviction, supported by Carpenter Technology's specialized materials leadership, pricing power, and exposure to a multiyear aerospace production recovery."

The artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure boom is running into a physical limit that money alone can't solve: electricity. Hyperscalers can spend hundreds of billions of dollars on servers, but those servers still need power, and new data-center capacity can take years to connect to the grid. That is changing the economics of AI computing. The scarce resource is increasingly not just chips or capital, but energized megawatts.
That creates an opening for Nvidia (NVDA), whose next-generation Vera Rubin platform is designed to squeeze more computing — and more revenue — from every watt. Let's take a closer look.

The dollar index (DXY00) is down by -0.16% today. The dollar is modestly lower today, consolidating below last Friday's 2-week high. Today's rally in the Chinese yuan to a 3.5-year high is undercutting the dollar.
However, losses in the dollar are limited today as WTI crude oil climbs more than +2% to a 1-week high, which raises inflation expectations and could potentially persuade the Fed to raise interest rates, a supportive factor for the dollar. Also, weaker stocks today have boosted some liquidity demand for the dollar, and higher T-note yields have strengthened the dollar's interest rate differentials. Finally, the dollar has some carryover support from last Friday, when Fed Chair Warsh warned inflation isn't meaningfully slowing and vowed that policymakers will return inflation to their 2% target. The chance of a Fed rate hike at next month's FOMC meeting rose to 63% today from 36% before Warsh's speech.

Palo Alto Networks (PANW) reports earnings on Sept. 1, and Wall Street has high expectations. In the week before its quarterly release, almost every day an **** yst firm raised its price target for the company. Benchmark started the rally by raising its price target on Aug. 24. J.P Morgan raised its price target on Aug. 25. Robert W. Baird raised it on Aug. 27. And Jefferies did the same on Aug. 28. All these firms kept a "Buy" rating on the stock. The optimism helped push PANW stock higher, and shares jumped roughly 13% in a single trading session.
The optimism is for a good reason. For the July quarter, management guided to revenue of around $3.35 billion, which would be an increase of approximately 32% from a year ago. Its next-generation security business, the subscription-based AI and cloud products, is expected to grow close to 60%. This will also be the first full quarter that includes CyberArk, the $25 billion identity security company Palo Alto recently bought. Its newest AI security product, Prisma AIRS, has also been the fastest-growing product in the company's history.

During the August 24 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer pointed to the sharp reversal in AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) stock as he said:
What the heck happened to a stock we really like, AEVEX? I mean, here's a company that makes drones for the military, the single hottest part of the defense sector yet, its stock's been [on] a, let's call it, a roller coaster. AEVEX came public at $20 back in April, jumped nearly 35% the first day of trading, ultimately running as high as $42 and change a few days later. Now, though, it's fallen through the offer price, coming down to $18. I can't find out why.
Some of it's because AEVEX reported earlier this month, and Wall Street, I guess, didn't like the numbers. Stock got slammed. Didn't matter that it was a huge revenue beat. The earnings and backlog both came in weaker than expected, but not that much. Still, I think demand remains strong. They keep winning a lot of new business. At the same time, AEVEX is trying to buy BlackSea Technologies for as much as $650 million in stock and cash, which is a lot of money when you're a $2 billion company. This would give them exposure to unmanned ships and submarines, which they could tie into their drone software system.
AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) reported $201.8 million of revenue for the second quarter, up 99.5% from $101.1 million a year earlier. Net income improved to $6.7 million from a loss of $11.8 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose to $28.1 million from $3.6 million. Most of the growth came from AEVEX's tactical systems business. Revenue in the segment increased to $174.2 million, up 141.6% year over year, driven by higher UAS product and support revenue.
AEVEX Corp. (NYSE:AVEX) ended the second quarter with $259.8 million of funded backlog, down from $503.1 million at the end of 2025. That represents a decline of roughly 48%. The company said the $243.3 million decline was primarily due to revenue recognized from the EUCOM AOR Deep Strike program. The company also said the balance was affected by an increase in shorter-cycle customer orders. AEVEX continued to secure new business during the quarter, including contracts for UAS and engineering services, mission-support capabilities, and advanced unmanned mission capabilities.

Zoetis Inc. (NYSE:ZTS) entered 2026 as a leader in animal health, but its latest earnings show that even a strong market position cannot fully insulate the company from weaker consumer demand. Fiscal Q2 2026 revenue remained flat at $2.5 billion and declined 1% on an organic operational basis, as pressure in the U.S. companion-animal market offset growth in livestock and international markets.
The quarter therefore presents investors with two different versions of Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS), as an established companion-animal business facing near-term pressure and a diversified animal-health platform still investing in its next generation of products.
Zoetis's (NYSE:ZTS) diversification provided an important source of resilience during the quarter. Livestock revenue increased 12% on a reported basis, supported by cattle and poultry products. In the United States, livestock sales grew 23% on both a reported and organic operational basis in the quarter, benefiting from favorable beef-cattle economics, supply timing, and increased poultry-vaccine sales **** ociated with disease outbreaks.
International performance was also encouraging. Revenue outside the United States rose 8% on a reported basis and 6% organically to $1.2 billion. International companion-animal sales grew 5% organically, supported by parasiticides such as Simparica Trio, Revolution and Stronghold, as well as diagnostics and newer osteoarthritis treatments. This geographic contrast demonstrates that the weakness was not uniform across Zoetis's (NYSE:ZTS) business. Demand for its products remains healthy in several markets, even as U.S. pet owners become more price-sensitive.
However, innovation could provide another route back to growth, as Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS) says that its pipeline contains more than 12 potential blockbuster candidates across chronic kidney disease, oncology, cardiology, anxiety, and obesity. The company also launched Lenivia and Portela, long-acting osteoarthritis treatments offering dogs and cats up to three months of pain relief from one injection.

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment ****** umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN). Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) is a leading US-based home builder. On August 18, 2026, Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) closed at $84.94 per share. The one-month return of Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) was 8.75% and its shares lost 31.45% over the past 52 weeks. Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) has a market capitalization of $20.42 billion.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) is the second largest homebuilder in the U.S. Margins and earnings have collapsed over the past few years, driven by weakness in the company's geographic markets. This has been exacerbated by a change in business model, whereby the company spun off its land bank. In the long term, going "land light" should reduce balance sheet risk and improve returns on capital, but it also reduces margins, which has a more ****** ounced effect on earnings in today's weak market. Over time, we expect excess inventory to clear and volume and discounting to improve. Indicative of depressed valuations, M&A activity in the sector is increasing. Berkshire Hathaway recently acquired Taylor Morrison, making it the fourth builder in the country."

On August 7, Construction Partners (NASDAQ:ROAD) held its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings call and used it to raise guidance for the second time this year. Revenue climbed 28.2% year-over-year to $999.4 million, and the company closed the quarter with a record $3.36 billion project backlog. Operationally, the infrastructure and asphalt provider is focusing its growth strategy on two key drivers: expanding its commercial footprint in AI data center construction and navigating ongoing federal transportation funding debates in Washington.
CPI's quarter split roughly two ways: 8.9% organic growth and 19.3% from acquisitions, together pushing adjusted EBITDA up 24% to $163 million. Net income landed at $59.6 million, with adjusted EPS of $1.08. Management pointed to more than 1,000 commercial projects expected across its 8 states and 115-plus local markets this year, including a fast-growing data center vertical. In Texas, its Lone Star Paving unit is already working data center jobs with a pipeline exceeding $100 million, and in Oklahoma, the newly acquired Ellsworth Construction adds a further $100 million of active data center work with over $130 million more in the pipeline.
On the public side, CPI won airfield paving work at Pensacola International Airport and more than $80 million in Florida DOT rest-stop contracts along I-4. Management also argued that a proposed federal bill, BUILD America 250 Act, would fund highways at roughly 7.2% above prior levels, and noted that the last three transportation bills all ended up richer than their initial House versions.
Not every line moved the right direction. Gross margin actually slipped slightly, to 16.8% from 16.9% a year earlier, even as revenue surged, with management citing energy cost inflation and unusually wet weather in May. The balance sheet tells a similar story of progress with strings attached: debt to trailing EBITDA fell to 3.1x, but CPI just added a $300 million incremental term loan and expanded its revolver to $700 million, meaning the leverage reduction came alongside fresh borrowing.
On the funding side, management admitted the legislative calendar is tightening as midterms approach, raising the odds Congress leans on a continuing resolution rather than passing a new multiyear bill. And while CPI says a CR wouldn't disrupt fiscal 2027 activity, roughly 45% of the prior infrastructure law's funding still hasn't even been deployed, leaving real uncertainty about pacing.

The typically staid market for U.S. Treasury debt is a slumbering giant that is starting to stir. And over the coming days and weeks, some investors are worried that the rumblings could spill over into other markets, like stocks.
The coming weeks are shaping up to be a critical stretch for the $30 trillion Treasury market, widely considered the bedrock of the global financial system. Treasury bonds serve as vital collateral for short-term institutional liquidity, and Treasury yields set the benchmark borrowing rates for trillions of dollars in global debt, from mortgages to corporate bonds.

If you bought a home within the last few years, you might face some mortgage rate regrets. But as everyday people have told me, life doesn't wait for the market. You needed a home at the time you bought it, not before or after when rates were different.
While rates are still relatively high, they've fallen from their peak a few years ago. And if you're looking for a lower monthly payment, it's worth checking if you're paying more than today's average mortgage rate. If you are, a refinance may be on the table.
The math can be complicated, with interest rates, closing costs and amortization schedules to consider. And you can't always count on your lender to do this math for you.
But crunching the numbers is key to making the right refi move. Here's how three homeowners decided it was worth it for them.
When Bob Bradley, a 44-year-old publicist based in Orange County, Calif., married his wife, Kristy Andre, they needed a house to fit their blended family. He sold his 2%-rate condominium to fund a down payment on their family home. The couple bought at a 6.125% rate in June 2024.

At the end of last year, Warren Buffett retired as chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA)(NYSE: BRKB) and passed the reins to Greg Abel. Although Buffett still has some influence on the company, it's clear that Abel and Berkshire Hathaway are embracing new strategies.
Since Abel took over, Berkshire Hathaway's stock portfolio has changed a bit, and one of the biggest shifts is that it has loaded up on Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL). Berkshire Hathaway purchased its first Alphabet shares in late 2025, but Abel has taken it up a notch. It's now Berkshire Hathaway's fifth-largest holding, accounting for 8.7% of its stock portfolio (across both share classes).

Every country that builds things eventually faces the same question about a cheaper foreign rival, and there are only two honest answers to it.
You can wall the rival out and buy yourself time, or you can let the rival in and try to learn something before it eats you.
Both answers cost money. Only one of them tells you where you actually stand.
The United States picked the wall, and picked it hard. A 100% import duty on Chinese electric vehicles took effect in September 2024, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
A separate Commerce Department rule bars Chinese-linked vehicle software starting with model year 2027 cars and Chinese-linked connectivity hardware from model year 2030, according to the Bureau of Industry and Security.

Choosing between Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (NYSEMKT:VOOG) and Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF (NYSEMKT:MGK) involves weighing a slightly lower cost against a broader portfolio of S&P 500 growth stocks.
Both Vanguard funds provide low-cost exposure to the U.S. growth market but differ in their underlying index methodology. While MGK targets only the largest market-capitalization names, VOOG casts a wider net across the entire S&P 500, offering a different balance of concentration and diversity.

US stock futures edged higher as chipmaking equipment producer ASML (ASML) sent a bullish signal on AI demand and investors awaited a second batch of inflation data to follow Tuesday's soft consumer price report.
Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (YM=F) rose above the flat line, while those on the S&P 500 (ES=F) gained 0.2%. Nasdaq-100 (NQ=F) futures added 0.5% as stocks looked to build on gains from the day before.
Tech stocks rose in premarket trading after ASML lifted its annual sales forecast above Wall Street forecasts, citing AI demand, and said it plans to increase its production capacity for chipmaking equipment by 30%, which soothed some concerns about bottlenecks in the chip supply chain.
That helped offset pressure from rising oil prices as President Trump said he would intensify attacks on Iran until the country relents. "We're going to knock out all of their bridges unless they get to the table and negotiate," Trump told Fox News on Tuesday, per Bloomberg.
On the economic data front, investors will be watching for the Fed's Beige Book and the Producer Price Index, after the latest Consumer Price Index data showed the largest single-month decline in inflation since April 2020. Markets will also get additional signals from Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh on Wednesday in his testimony before the Senate Banking Committee.
