After failing to advance to the FedExCup Playoffs, Brooks Koepka did not mince words.
"I think it's pretty pathetic that I can't get through," Koepka said after carding an even-par 70 Sunday morning at Sedgefield Country Club to wrap up a 74-70 weekend at the Wyndham Championship.
Koepka shared 70th place when he finished his round, well shy of the minimum solo-fourth performance he needed to move inside the top 70 and qualify for next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship.
"Ball-struck it great," Koepka said. "It's just all on the greens. I don't know what the deal is, got zero confidence, can't putt. I don't know. There's going to be a lot of changes here soon."
Entering the Wyndham ranking 116th in strokes gained putting, Koepka was 68th out of 81 players who made the cut this week.

One of the greatest defensive players to ever touch the turf and perhaps the greatest defender in NFC South history, former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly delivered a memorable speech during this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A former divisional foe who made a living making life miserable for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense, Kuechly didn't hesitate to take a subtle shot at the Saints while also sharing some genuine praise for his old rival.
As Kuechly paid his respects to the other inductees, he couldn't help but bring up Brees and former Saints head coach Sean Payton. After years of battling the Saints twice a season, Kuechly had a unique memory that had less to do with their on-field battles and more to do with the atmosphere inside the Caesars Superdome.
Kuechly spoke of a specific song that was played after Saints touchdowns that still gives him headaches to this day: "If I hear that song 'Stand Up and Get Crunk,' it ruins my mood. I can't stand it." It was a hilarious reminder of just how much the Caesars Superdome atmosphere could get under the skin of opposing players.
But Kuechly's playful jab at the Saints was quickly followed by some genuine praise for Brees, whom he considers the best player he ever faced: "Drew, you're the best player I've ever played against. Your process, your anticipation. That dang cadence that you have, I can still hear it and it's something that I'll keep with me forever."
Coming from a defender who spent his career lining up against some of the game's most talented offensive players, Kuechly's words were a tremendous compliment to Brees. Despite the rivalry and countless battles between the two, Kuechly made it clear that his respect for No. 9 went far beyond the football field.

Receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. is back in San Francisco, and back in the number he wore from 2019 through 2023: 19.
Coach Kyle Shanahan explained on Saturday that any contract-driven awkwardness from years past is a non-issue now.
"Deebo's always been one of the closest guys we've been to, just relationship-wise," Shanahan told reporters. "When Deebo went through his contract negotiations, [I'll] try not to put words in his mouth, but I think he thought it'd be advantageous to make it look like there was a little bit of a battle. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't. . . .
"Those OTAs [in 2022], I was at Deebo's house on the eighth OTA day, and I was talking about how all that was just BS. He came to minicamp. We had a great summer together. I think he signed the first day back at training camp. We got over that in OTAs. That was just stuff from the negotiating periods back in April and stuff. There were stuff, definitely, that made me like, 'What the ******* is going on?' We're not around Deebo. Then we see him in OTAs and we got to talk man-to-man and it was fine as soon as we got with each other."
Shanahan also said that Deebo's return was unrelated to losing receiver Ricky Pearsall for the entire season.

Colombo: Sri Lanka head coach Gary Kirsten was a keen observer at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground on Sunday as India continued their preparations for the upcoming two-Test series, with the former India coach getting a close look at the visitors during their final warm-up game.

That has opened the door further for Devdutt Padikkal, whose unbeaten 142 in the warm-up has strengthened his case for a place in the playing XI.

CHICAGO — Leaning against the wall in a United Center tunnel Saturday afternoon, Sophie Cunningham reflected on the emerging truth of her existence: Sometimes she seeks the spotlight, and the rest of the time, the spotlight seeks her.
"Another day, another dollar, welcome to my life, boys and girls," the Indiana Fever guard declared.
It should surprise no one, of course, that Cunningham took a hard foul in a 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky and then elected to give as good as she got. The arm-to-the-neck she absorbed from the Sky's DiJonai Carrington on a first-quarter layup attempt, which resulted in Carrington's ejection, was just the start.
"From my point of view, I mean, clearly I think it was unnecessary," Cunningham said after the game. "I've never really spoken to her and have no beef with her. But I guess she has some pent-up stuff. So get your s— off. That's fine. I can take it."
Cunningham immediately popped up, pushed Carrington and was restrained by teammate Makalya Timpson while exchanging words. ("I'm not going to let anyone just do that to me, I think everyone knows that," Cunningham said.) Carrington was **** sed a Flagrant 2 foul, but Cunningham wasn't hit with a technical foul for the shove because officials "deemed her reaction to the severity of the contact to be acceptable," per a pool report distributed after the game.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Fever's Caitlin Clark was **** sed her eighth technical foul of the season Saturday in a game against Chicago, and that would trigger a one-game suspension for Indiana's next game if it's not rescinded.
In the third quarter of the Fever's 90-86 win over the Sky, Clark made contact with a referee when she was forced out of bounds and was called for a technical foul.
After the game, Clark said the contact was inadvertent and that no words were exchanged. She was hopeful the WNBA would rescind the foul.
"She said I ran into her," Clark said of the referee. "I have already watched it on the tape. So, we'll let the league decide. But, it wasn't anything intentional or anything. So, I hope it gets rescinded. And, nothing was said."
The Fever's next game is on Tuesday against New York.

Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington was ejected from a WNBA game Saturday, Aug. 8, after a hard foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. Not long after, Carrington posted two words to her Threads account: "WHITE PRIVILEGE Indianafever."
Carrington's foul caused tension among players and after review, officials upgraded it to a flagrant foul penalty 2, which requires a player exit the game due to unnecessary and excessive contact, according to the WNBA rulebook.
Cunningham immediately had words for Carrington and was held back by a teammate.

ILORIN, Kwara (AP) — Some of the 163 kidnapped Nigerians rescued from jihadi captivity have spoken of the suffering and fear they lived in for six months.
The freed captives, mostly women and children, were among over 300 kidnap victims freed by Nigerian forces this week.
They were handed over to the authorities by security forces in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, on Friday for medical attention and routine checks, and were anticipating their return home to reunite with their families.
Mary Ishaya recalled days without food, and being asked alongside others to bury other hostages who died in captivity.
The 44-year-old, who had never touched a dead body or buried one before, said: "I still cannot find the right words to describe what has happened to us. We saw death and suffering."

Manchester City have drawn an early line in the sand over Rodri, rejecting Barcelona's opening proposal and making clear that any deal will only progress if their valuation is met. According to TeamTalk, City were left stunned by the first offer, with sources branding it "derisory" and well below a level that would trigger meaningful negotiations.
The current picture is straightforward. Rodri wants to return to Spain, Barcelona are his preferred destination, and personal terms are not the issue. TEAMtalk reports that the midfielder's camp have already agreed a four-year contract in principle with the Catalan club. The problem, and the only problem of note at this stage, is the fee.
Barcelona's opening bid is said to have been £38million, a number that has not come close to satisfying Manchester City. Their own valuation stands at £68.5million, and there appears to be no appetite inside the Etihad to soften that stance. One source described the offer as "derisory", while another said it "took everyone by surprise." Those are strong words, and they reflect a club that feel the market value of Rodri has already been set at a fair level.

There is also context that matters. Rodri is 30, but he remains one of the elite holding midfielders in world football. His experience, his consistency and his standing in the game mean City see little reason to sell at a discount. Even with the player's wish to leave now well established, the club's position is that they will facilitate an exit only "under the right conditions".

It's been a year since a young Indian team came out of a grueling five-Test tour of England with a memorable 2-2 scoreline. "Our next four Test matches are going to be in India. And that's going to be a different challenge. We have enough talent. This series was very important for us. Every player would feel a lot mature after the end of the series and that would really help us in the long run in this WTC cycle," Shubman Gill, otherwise measured with his words during the tour, found an ***** ertive tone to his speech after the dramatic win in the fifth Test at The Oval.

Well, the subsequent home season ended up derailing India's World Test Championship campaign with South Africa steamrolling India in the two Test matches in Nov. If the heroics in England was deemed as India's Test redemption for the preceding forgettable tour of Australia, the consolidation post the English summer never arrived. Gill arrived in England understandably like deer in the headlights after being thrust to captaincy post the debacle in Australia which saw the retirements of three stalwarts in Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. Gambhir was his shepherd in the chaos. "Before the start of the series, Gauti bhai (Gambhir) said we are a young team but we want to be looked at as a gun team," Gill had revealed Gambhir's nerve-settling words.

Gambhir did the heavy-lifting to ensure Gill the batter didn't succumb to the pressures of leading an inexperienced team in England. One can't write off Gambhir's overbearing influence in Test and T20 teams in the last one year. Perhaps, it's time Gill came out of Gambhir's shadow to resurrect India's reputation as a Test team.

When he steps out for the toss in Galle on Aug 15, it will be his 10th Test as India captain which includes a Test against South Africa where he was ruled out due to a neck injury after playing three ***** in the game. He has led in 12 ODIs. Technically, his captaincy career is still in its nascent stage. But current circumstances won't allow him much time before the swords are pulled out.

It's unusual for Indian cricket to have a captain playing the second fiddle in the engine room. Every Indian team is eventually remembered by the captain it had. TOI understands that the power forces in the BCCI have been encouraging Gill to have a firmer say in planning. If the last two ODI series are anything to go by, one may say that Gill has been taking the initiative to drive his point across with the senior players in the team. One newcomer to the Los Angeles Lakers who hasn't been talked about as much as some of the others is Ziaire Williams. The 6-foot-9 forward is very athletic, reportedly has a vertical leap of nearly 40 inches, runs the floor well and finishes strong in transition and is a versatile, effective defender. He will have a chance to make a significant impact on a Lakers team that has badly needed versatile, athletic perimeter defenders for the last few years.
Williams was born in Lancaster, Calif., which is about an hour northeast of downtown Los Angeles, and he went to high school in the San Fernando Valley, first at Notre Dame High School and then at Sierra Canyon School. He's now back in the Southland, and in a video on the Lakers' YouTube channel, he said that getting to play for the team is "super surreal."
"Seeing my name on the Lakers jersey was super surreal, a blessing," Williams said. "I can't even explain it into words I'm just so excited to be back home, playing in front of the fans, my family and I never would've imagined this day would come true. Eight-year old me is doing backflips right now. It's crazy, I just can't wait to play a real game. I'm ready to play right now."
The 24-year-old's main weakness is his 3-point shooting, which has improved somewhat during his five years in the NBA, but he was at a mediocre 34.3% from that distance last season. He's very good at hitting wide-open 3s (defined as the closest defender being at least six feet away), but he tends to struggle when a defender is closer than six feet away from him.
Last season, Williams averaged 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 ******* ists, 1.4 steals and 0.4 blocks in 22.9 minutes a game as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. He signed a one-year, $2.45 million veteran minimum contract with the Lakers in mid-July.

During the Guardians' sixth inning against the White Sox at Rate Field, White Sox color ***** yst Steve Stone was talking about Kwan's hitting approach and suggested the outfielder was trying to do something outside his usual game.

The commercial **** e sector is one of the most volatile themes in the market. Because **** e stocks often move up and down together, thanks to macro liquidity, launch successes, or sector-wide risk-on sentiment, how an ETF constructs its holdings matters significantly.
Different **** e-focused ETFs offer different edges and also weaknesses versus their peers. That beauty, or lack thereof, is in the eyes of the beholder. It often comes down to how concentrated an ETF is. In other words, how few stock holdings it includes. Here are four ETFs I am comparing below:

Option prices are surging for stocks but are relatively subdued for the SPY. In the chart below, I compare the implied volatility (IV) of individual stocks with the IV of the SPY (an ETF based on the S&P 500 Index) using weekly options that expire the following week. Specifically, I calculated the average IV of individual stocks at the end of each week and compared it to the SPY IV.
The chart below is color-coded, highlighting that over the past ten weeks, the average IV of individual stocks has been around 50% (blue), a historically high level. Meanwhile, the SPY average IV has remained relatively low at about 13.5% (orange). This has pushed the spread between the two close to 36% (black), the highest level in my data dating back to 2016.
This is an interesting situation, and this week I'll examine the historical data to see what this has typically meant for the short-term options trading environment.
We would normally expect IVs on individual stocks to correlate with IVs on the SPY, and that's typically the case. However, there are times when they diverge, as they have now.
It makes sense if traders expect big moves from individual stocks, but they expect the big moves in both directions. That could result in little movement from the broad index. In other words, the options market is pricing in large, but uncorrelated, moves in individual stocks.

The New England Patriots have two legitimate stars lining up across from each other at training camp. On Thursday, their ongoing competition became a little more heated.
Cornerback Christian Gonzalez and wide receiver A.J. Brown exchanged words and pointed fingers during a physical one-on-one period at Patriots practice. The two eventually had to be separated before the confrontation escalated. The exchange did not become a full fight, but it offered another reminder that New England's top receiver and top cornerback have no interest in giving each other an easy afternoon.
Gonzalez reportedly won three individual reps against Brown during the session. One pass breakup led to the two stars jawing at each other near the end zone. The verbal exchange quickly became more animated. Gonzalez and Brown pointed at each other before teammates stepped between them and moved the practice forward.
Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte was among those who intervened. He explained afterward that he wanted to prevent the situation from becoming something more serious.

Things turned awfully testy during the late innings of Wednesday night's 4-2 Mariners victory over the Detroit Tigers, which evened the pivotal series for both teams in an American League playoff race that is heating up more and more with every passing day. A half-inning after Cal Raleigh was drilled in the ribs with 95 mph four-seam fastball by Enmanuel De Jesus — and no warnings were issued — Gabe Speier pegged Gleyber Torres with a 96 mph four-seamer of his own, leading to an exchanging of words and the benches clearing. Speier and Dan Wilson both ended up ejected. As Kate said in the recap, we'll see if this has any ramifications Thursday.
Speaking of throwing at people, Framber Valdez gets the start for the Tigers on Thursday. His first season in Detroit hasn't gone quite to plan, with many of his numbers across the board taking a step back. His FIP has ballooned to 4.13 in 2026, having not exceeded 3.50 over his previous four seasons in Houston.
The Mariners will look to Bryce Miller to try to secure an important series win before the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays come to town for 50 Seasons weekend. The fallout from one of the NBA's blockbuster trades of the summer continues to ripple across the Eastern Conference. While the trade that sent Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the rival Philadelphia 76ers stunned NBA fans, Philly's new addition has largely kept his thoughts on his former co-star, Jayson Tatum, under wraps—until now.
During his introductory press conference on Thursday, Brown was asked about his relationship with Tatum. After briefly discussing the topic, he was asked if he had talked to Tatum since the trade. The 29-year-old didn't have much to offer other than two words on that topic:
"Not really," Brown responded.
Prior to that, Brown addressed a question about whether he and Tatum wanted to continue their partnership over the past year and gave a straightforward response.
"Um, you know, we won a championship together, so anybody that you win a championship [with], you would think that's what a brotherhood or a lifelong legacy would entail," Brown responded. "Obviously, there's ups and downs in any type of relationship, for sure. But on my end, it's nothing but respect. Besides when he plays the Sixers, I hope he does well. But other than that, everything for me is just based in respect."

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Mariners reliever Gabe Speier was given a three-game suspension Thursday after hitting Detroit's Gleyber Torres with a pitch in the eighth inning of Wednesday night's game.
Speier is appealing the ban, according to the MLB Players **** ociation.
Additionally, Mariners manager Dan Wilson was also suspended one-game and will serve his suspension in the series finale Thursday against the Tigers. Managers cannot appeal a suspension. Manny Acta will serve as the manager for the Mariners.
Speier had relieved Bryan Woo in the eighth inning of Seattle's 4-2 win. After getting the first two outs, Speier threw two inside fastballs to Torres, with the latter pegging him on the upper left leg on a 96.3 mph pitch.
Torres and Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh proceeded to have words with each other before the benches and bullpens cleared. There were no punches thrown, and Wilson was ejected in the aftermath after Speier was tossed from the game. It was the second time this season Wilson was removed from a game.

That's part of what makes it all so sweet.
The 26-year-old knows she could have walked away following her final season at Oregon State in the spring of 2025, with a resume stuffed with Olympic and world championship medals and her place in the history of the storied U.S. women's program secure.
She tried, kind of. The athlete who had been going nonstop for the better part of 20 years gave her body a bit of a break after her NCAA career ended. It lasted a handful of weeks.
Then one day, she popped into the gym and, in the words of her father and longtime coach Brian, "started playing again."

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Ransom-seeking hackers who use phone calls to compromise their victims targeted dozens of prominent U.S. financial institutions and other businesses over the past month, according to Google and internet ‌intelligence data reviewed by Reuters.
The data shows the hackers devised websites aimed at stealing passwords from employees of private equity firms ‌and companies including Blackstone, Bridgewater **** ociates, Apollo Global Management, Bain Capital, KKR, TPG, CME Group and Moody's, as well as a host of financial companies and other businesses. Internet company Google said in a blog post about the hacking campaign published on Thursday that the hackers operate under a range of names, including Redact, Pink, Falcon, and Helix.
Google declined to comment on Reuters findings. It said in some cases companies, which it did not name, paid ransoms to the hackers. Reuters could not establish which companies the hackers successfully compromised.
Experts say the hackers' use of low-tech tactics such as phone calls to target the ‌financial industry illustrates how, despite sophisticated security programs and ⁠AI-driven threats, the oldest tactics still rank among the most effective. If successful, the hacks could compromise data of some of the biggest U.S. private equity firms that provide capital to companies.
