When did we lose the art of enjoyment? These days, the average person loves a think piece—specifically, having their own and putting it out there for the world to see. It stems from this new access we have on the internet to each other. On ****** es like TikTok, Instagram, and X and Threads, we can reach beyond our narrow circles into the phones of literally anyone else. Out of this environment, we've normalized an even more extreme parasocial nature between celebrities, influencers, and each other. The new internet landscape involves users ****** yzing and critiquing anyone who chooses to try or put themselves out there, serving as amateur publicists, stylists, and brand-image architects. There's an element of this new world order that's thrilling—our opinions matter! But...what's that phrase about opinions again?
I'd argue that we've critiqued ourselves into mass hysteria, conflating personal opinion with expertise. Just because someone has something to say doesn't mean they actually know what they're saying. There once was a time when people took the time to learn, gain experience, and work in a specific field so they're equipped to handle certain industries. But now, everyone simply thinks they know enough about everything. And it's making fashion and entertainment commentary less fun for everyone involved.
Over the last few weeks, with Fashion Month, the Emmys, and the VMAs, we were inundated with sartorial opinions on the internet. Top of mind for me was Shailene Woodley's Emmys look.

Actress Julianne Moore has shared a look inside the West Village duplex penthouse she recently renovated, where items she's thoughtfully collected for decades create a perfectly lived-in vibe.
"The Big Lebowski" star, 65, told Architectural Digest that she had her eye on the residence before it ever hit the market.
"We were so lucky to find this apartment," she said in a video tour of the home. "I think this is one of the most beautiful apartments in New York."
Located in a 1920s building that was originally a hotel, the home is on "the roof of the building" and boasts several terraces—including one with an herb garden she planted and shares with her "very close friends."
After living in a townhouse with her husband, director Brett Freundlich, and their two children for nearly 25 years, this apartment is her first time living "up high."

Kids today might know Matthew Modine best for his role as Dr Brenner in Stranger Things but the star got his start back in the '80s with hits like Full Metal Jacket (1987). The actor has appeared in not one but two Christopher Nolan classics, The Dark Knight Rises and Oppenheimer, so we'd recommend digging back into his filmography.
Before you swap over to your TV screen, catch up on what the actor has been doing since he worked with Nicolas Cage and the successful lives of his wife and two kids below.
Caridad met while Matthew was working as a chef in New York
Matthew's long-term wife Caridad Rivera was born in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and is of Puerto Rican descent. She works as a makeup and wardrobe artist. Caridad and husband Matthew are still going strong four decades in.
The actor told Closer Weekly: "I'd been in a few relationships and wanted someone to be friends with. What's most important is to have a partner you share interests with, who challenges you, who is smarter than you." He added: "Then the physical side is a bonus. I hit the jackpot and got both!

Just four months before the second anniversary of Paquita la del Barrio's death, tragedy has struck her family once again. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Martha Elena Martínez Viveros passed away at the age of 47, the singer's adopted daughter. The news has caused a deep stir in the entertainment world and among the beloved artist's fans.
The confirmation of her passing came through Paquita la del Barrio's official account. "Today, mother and daughter are reunited in heaven," reads a memorial note full of memories and respect. "There are goodbyes that hurt deeply and words that will never be enough to express the emptiness left by the loss of a loved one. With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Martha Elena Martínez Viveros, daughter of our dear Paquita la del Barrio," it continues.

According to local reports, Paquito, the singer's former manager, shared details of what happened: "She was fine, and from one moment to the next she was gone, at such a young age," he said, explaining that it was due to cardiac arrest, something shocking, as he was not aware of any health issues. In recent days, Martha had traveled to Peru with her granddaughters, where she enjoyed a wonderful family trip. Martha Elena was found dead in Veracruz, where the local government of Alto Lucero posted a tribute in her honor, offering condolences to the Martínez Viveros family and recognizing the profound mark that the singer and her daughter left on the community.

SCHD yields 3.82% with principal at risk daily, while VIG targets dividend growers built to outpace inflation over a long horizon.
Qualified dividends face tax rates between 0% and 20%, compared to up to 37% for savings interest, a gap that can exceed the difference in yields.
High-yield savings protect dollars with FDIC coverage up to $250,000, but rates float and can drop the moment the Fed cuts.
Just released. Our ****** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
High-yield savings rates were holding steady on Oct. 8, 2026, according to Forbes. They are holding at a higher level than a month ago because the Federal Reserve raised its target range in September. Online banks use the federal funds rate's upper bound to price their accounts, and it moved from 3.75% to 4.00% on Sept. 16, 2026 and was unchanged as of Oct. 7. On that date the 4-week Treasury bill, the closest market benchmark for overnight cash, yielded 3.95%. Typical banks pay much less. The FDIC national average 12-month CD rate was 1.73% as of Sept. 1, 2026, and top online banks routinely pay a multiple of that average. Rates differ from bank to bank, so the posted APY at your own bank is the number that applies to you.

For an average single person planning to stop working at 64, a $1.2 million 401(k) account and $2,800 Social Security benefit could provide enough income to make ends meet during retirement. Widely used guidelines suggest your annual income may be around $81,600, which may or may not be more than your annual expenses. Much depends on individual circumstances, including the kind of retirement lifestyle you desire, your location and future trends of inflation, taxes and investment returns. To get a comprehensive workup of your retirement budget, take the question to a financial advisor.
Income and expenses represent the two sides of your retirement budget. Both are equally important and decisions you make regarding either can affect the overall accuracy and dependability of the budget.
You can estimate expenses by using averages for typical retirees or by considering specifics of your situation with estimate for categories such as housing, healthcare and taxes. Similarly, you can estimate future income with general guidelines or by accounting for specifics such as your personal investment preferences.
In your case, we'll start with income since we have information about that. Despite the possibility that Social Security benefits will be cut by about 20% after 2035, your $2,800 Social Security benefit can probably be relied upon. And benefits are indexed to a cost-of-living benchmark, providing protection against inflation.
Note, however, that if you wait to claim benefits, your monthly amount will increase every year until you are 70. By claiming at age 64 rather than waiting until your full retirement age of 67, you are receiving 20% less. If you wait until age 70, you'll get 24% more than at 67. And you'll receive the higher amount, adjusted annually for cost of living, as long as you live.

For a subset of young workers, the name of the game is to squirrel away enough savings and investments so retirement can come early, substituting strategic personal finance for a lifetime of labor. (FIRE!)
It turns out that the post-pandemic boom and explosion of stock prices has already gifted many older Americans with a version of that lifestyle, according to Bank of America — and it's affecting the economy.
Labor force participation — which measures the share of people employed or seeking work among the total population — never recovered after the shock of the pandemic.
According to BofA's economics team, led by Aditya Bhave, the biggest driver behind the decline in overall labor force participation has been workers over age 55 leaving the workforce.
"This debunks a popular bearish narrative on the labor market: 'the u-rate would have been higher if participation hadn't fallen,'" Bhave wrote.

Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) is offering a dividend yield of roughly 6% today. That is well above the roughly 1% yield on offer from the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and the 1.4% average yield of pharmaceutical stocks. There are good reasons for the negative view of Pfizer, but investors may be ignoring the company's over 100-year history of success. Here's why you may want to consider buying this out-of-favor dividend stock while others are fearful.
Pfizer's stock rocketed higher during the coronavirus pandemic, as investors myopically focused on the company's COVID vaccine. When COVID turned out to be a less serious long-term threat than originally believed, Wall Street dumped Pfizer. At this point, the stock is down more than 50% from its 2021 high. That is a big part of the story behind the high yield.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
However, there's another piece that is more fundamental to the pharmaceutical industry. Like all drug makers, Pfizer's drugs receive time-limited patent protections. When patents expire, generic versions of the medications can be produced. That generally leads to a dramatic decline in revenue from Pfizer's drugs. Right now, Pfizer is facing down some notable patent expirations. This is a completely normal dynamic in the pharmaceutical sector.
Patent expirations are why drug companies are always on the lookout for new drugs. The problem is that patent expirations follow a set schedule, but drug development does not. Pfizer's drug pipeline isn't producing major new drugs right now, and it looks like it may have to work through a period in which new drugs won't fully offset revenue lost to patent expirations. This isn't uncommon, either, but investors are likely focusing on the short term rather than the long term when it comes to Pfizer.

This has been a history-packed year for Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI), S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) have all catapulted to several new highs, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh was sworn in as only the 17th head of the Fed on May 22.
But the most game-changing event of them all might be Warsh and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) kicking off only the fourth interest rate-hiking cycle of the 21st century on Sept. 16. Fed Chair Warsh and 11 other FOMC colleagues voted unanimously (12-0) to raise the federal funds target rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%.

Coca-Cola ($KO) beats PepsiCo ($PEP) for generational portfolios with 63 consecutive dividend increases, wider margins, and 182% 10-year share gains versus 60%.
PepsiCo's free cash flow barely covers its 4.44% dividend yield, while Coca-Cola's expected $12.4B free cash flow dwarfs its $8.8B dividend payout.
A pending IRS appeals ruling and a premium P/E of 28 are the two risks that could crack Coca-Cola's otherwise dominant long-term case.

One of Andrew Tate's accusers says he convinced her to move to Romania by telling her she would be able to decide whether she participated in webcam work. According to newly public extradition materials, she says that choice disappeared after she arrived.

TMZ reported the specific allegations from court documents filed as Britain seeks to extradite the brothers from the United States.
She says she had set explicit boundaries around what she would and would not do but was pressured into acts outside those limits, including one degrading act involving a bed fixture that allegedly continued for about an hour. The woman described her overall experience as feeling like "sexual slavery." The allegations have not been proven in court.
U.K. investigators allege the brothers used romantic relationships to draw women to Romania before using financial control, intimidation and violence to exploit them through online ***** ual content. The brothers deny wrongdoing and are fighting extradition from federal custody in Miami.

Kylie Kelce revealed why she wouldn't put her daughters' faces on social media. Recently, the mom of four appeared on a podcast and discussed her kids' involvement in her online posts. Kelce revealed she didn't struggle with it when she had her first daughter, but things changed eventually. As the family grew famous, the doting mother decided not to show her children's faces online.
Kylie Kelce and Jason Kelce protect their daughters' privacy on social media. During the podcaster's appearance on Tay Lautner's podcast, "The Squeeze," Kelce opened up about online privacy for kids. She and the retired NFL player share four daughters, Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley. They rarely feature in the couple's photos on Instagram.
Speaking of the same, the 34-year-old mom told Lautner that things changed when their family grew popular. "I post infrequently overall, and I post even less frequently about our children," she said.
"I didn't want to exclude them entirely, [but] I made it a point to stop putting their faces on my social media." Furthermore, she explained that Jason's retirement documentary became the "turning point" in their lives. It required the children to be on camera, which made her realize that people couldn't set boundaries for themselves. Hence, Kelce drew it for them.
"I feel really strongly about going forward just for their safety to not include them in anything," she said. According to her, their children's "safety" will always be their top priority. Kelce also admitted that she tries to be careful about what photos she posts online related to her kids. She worries about how they would react in the future when they search for it online.

The U.S. Senate candidates in Texas could hardly be more different: James Talarico, a former seminarian turned Democratic state lawmaker who speaks in calm cadences about love and empathy, and Ken Paxton, the pugnacious Republican state attorney general who speaks about a refusal to compromise.
They share an enemy, though. They dislike social media's effects on children's mental health. Talarico, who did not respond to a request for comment, has endorsed a social media ban for kids under 16, while denouncing "predatory algorithms that divide us on an hourly, daily basis." As a legislator, he co-authored a bill targeting explicit deepfakes — digital imitations of individuals that are often made or manipulated by artificial intelligence and used for harassment on social media.
Paxton has been suing Big Tech, alleging the companies hook youth on their apps or don't restrict sensitive videos from being viewed by kids. "When elected to the U.S. Senate, he will continue his proven record of advancing policies that protect children online, strengthen parental rights, and hold Big Tech accountable when it breaks the law," Paxton campaign spokesperson Madison Cercy said in a statement to KFF Health News.
Youth mental health is in decline. Even as researchers explore what's causing the problem, momentum is gathering among policymakers from both parties to crack down on social media companies. Several major companies are being sued, investigated, and, soon, potentially regulated. That they may be harming kids' mental health is a key reason.

Several world-famous celebs gathered for the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week. Among the stars in Paris was Zendaya, who not only turned heads with her look but also made headlines for a brief interaction she had with Brigitte Macron, the First Lady of France.
In a video shared by Alexandre Maras, editor-in-chief of Paris Match, you can see the exact moment Brigitte Macron walks over to greet the Dune actress. During this brief encounter in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre Museum, 30-year-old Zendaya remained seated. The president's wife leaned in slightly to shake the actress's hand. The Euphoria star returned the gesture, shook her hand, and said it was a pleasure to meet her.
Moments before 73-year-old Brigitte Macron approached Zendaya, Bernard Arnault, CEO of the luxury group LVMH, had also greeted the actress. The executive leads the luxury conglomerate that brings together more than 75 internationally renowned brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Celine, Loewe, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, among others.

Zendaya behaved the same way with Arnault; she greeted him, shook his hand, and stayed in her seat. Debate quickly erupted on social media. Some argued that the actress should have stood up out of courtesy and greeted them both on her feet—first, because of their positions as First Lady and top executive, and second, because they are older.

Red carpet fashion does not always stop at an extraordinary dress. Some stars have taken transformation much further, using prosthetics, sculptural makeup and elaborate accessories to turn themselves into fantastical characters. From fairy inspired beauty to feline features and even a dramatic peacock transformation, these looks blurred the boundaries between fashion, makeup and performance art. Ariana Grande, Karol G, Doja Cat, Rita Ora and Heidi Klum have all experimented with this theatrical approach. Rather than simply complementing their outfits, the unusual additions became essential parts of the overall illusion.
At the 2024 Met Gala, Ariana Grande embraced an ethereal aesthetic in a custom Loewe creation. The look combined an iridescent corseted bodice with a flowing pleated skirt, but some of its most memorable details appeared around her eyes. Delicate three dimensional wings extended from her face, adding a fairy like quality that worked naturally with the event's Garden of Time theme.
Karol G also entered a fantasy world at the same Met Gala. Wearing a crystal covered Marc Jacobs gown, the Colombian singer added prosthetic elf ears that transformed the glamorous ensemble into something more otherworldly. A sparkling headpiece and green jewels enhanced the effect, creating an interpretation that seemed to belong in an enchanted forest.
Doja Cat took transformation even further at the 2023 Met Gala, where the evening celebrated the work of Karl Lagerfeld. She referenced Lagerfeld's famous cat Choupette with a custom Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a hood with cat ears and a feathered train. Prosthetic facial features completed the transformation, giving her a feline appearance while preserving the elegance expected from a major fashion event.
Rita Ora demonstrated how prosthetics could create drama from an otherwise restrained silhouette at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. She wore a backless black Primark gown that revealed an extraordinary prosthetic structure running down her back. The sculpted spikes resembled a reptilian or prehistoric spine, turning the exposed skin itself into part of the fashion statement.

Kohl's is rolling out steep discounts for customers as it struggles to turn around its sales.
The department store chain revealed in its most recent earnings report that its comparable sales decreased 0.9% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, while recent Placer.ai data showed overall visits to Kohl's stores declined 1.4%.
Kohl's CEO Michael Bender said on the August earnings call that the company is "operating in a challenging macroeconomic environment" where customers are "experiencing persistent financial pressures from inflation in their everyday expenses, like gas and food."
Against this backdrop, Kohl's has taken several steps to make its merchandise more affordable. It introduced Deal Bar and Toy Towers in stores earlier this year, featuring products priced below $10. It also priced thousands of back-to-school items under $25 in July.
In its latest effort to win over price-conscious customers, Kohl's has made its annual Kohl's Deal Days savings event more generous this year.

Young Americans are reconsidering the value of a college degree given the high cost of college and the prospect of taking on student loan debt, which is prompting some colleges and universities to cut tuition costs to attract students and boost enrollment.
A report by Bloomberg noted that several colleges and universities have announced plans to lower their tuition either this year or in the next academic year when students arrive on campus in fall 2027. For example, Emory & Henry University historically offered significant merit scholarships amounting to up to $23,000 to help students negate some of the $40,000 price tag they faced, the report noted.
However, the school moved to reduce tuition by half to $19,900 for undergraduate students this academic year to lower the sticker price students are evaluating, while still offering merit scholarships up to $5,000 and covering tuition costs for certain in-state students from Virginia who meet income criteria.
"Our tuition reduction plan was just one piece of a larger strategic enrollment strategy," said Dr. Louise "Lou" Fincher, president of Emory & Henry University, told FOX Business. "Ultimately, we wanted our published tuition to better reflect the real cost of an Emory & Henry education."

Prosecutors in New York are expected to bring new charges against former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores over the alleged torture of Americans who were held in Venezuelan government custody in recent years, according to multiple people familiar with the investigation.
An announcement could come as soon as Thursday, the people said.
The new charges relate to what the US government has said was the wrongful detention of more than a dozen US citizens in Venezuelan prisons during the time Maduro led a repressive regime in Venezuela, the people briefed on the investigation said.
Investigators have also discussed charging several additional people for their alleged role in the torture of Americans, according to a source familiar with the matter.
CNN has reached out to lawyers for Maduro and Flores.

Rich Americans are getting richer, but not all equally. The K-shaped split that let high earners pull away from low earners now cuts through the top 1% too, with the ultra-rich far ahead of the rest.
The average household in the top 0.1% is now worth about $204 million, or 7.7 times as much as one in the rest of the top 1%, according to a Fortune ******* ysis of Federal Reserve data. The top 0.1%'s wealth has more than doubled since the end of 2019, from $13.4 trillion to nearly $28 trillion in the second quarter of 2026. Over the same period, the rest of the top 1% saw its wealth grow 68%, from $19.3 trillion to $32.5 trillion. The top 0.1% now holds 15% of the nation's household wealth, up 0.5 percentage point since the first quarter.
