Derby boss John Eustace has explained why Eiran Cashin missed the Rams' defeat to West Ham following his season-long loan move from Brighton.
Cashin was absent from the squad because of an ankle problem which had also kept him out of action during his final weeks at Brighton.
"Eiran's struggling a little bit with his ankle," Eustace said. "I think he's missed the last couple of weeks at Brighton, so hopefully he'll be joining in at some point this week."
Bobby Clark was only fit enough to start on the bench after suffering a hamstring scare, while Filip Bilbija was ruled out with a back injury.
"Bobby had a slight scare after the game on Tuesday," Eustace added. "That's why he was on the bench and he's been really struggling with his hamstrings. We were lucky to get him on for 20 minutes.

A versatile and highley rated performer, on paper it seemed to some as if Calvin Palmer's big money move in February 1968 was exactly what Sunderland's struggling squad needed, and yet when he departed two years the later his release felt inevitable – and the man that had brought him was certainly happy to see him go.
Bought by the recently reinstalled Alan Brown, Palmer's issues rarely came down to ability. Although fans felt they never got to see the same all action displays he produced at previous club Stoke City they still recognised his versatility and commitment to winning, particularly during one early appearance when against Stoke he took over from the injured Jimmy Montgomery in goal. It was an example of the type of self-sacrifice Brown would usually appreciate and yet the pair were unable to ever strike up a working relationship, a clash of personalities meaning that the notoriously formidable manager and his unconventional recruit often ***** ed heads.
Palmer would invariably take his football seriously but as a character struggled to acquiesce to Brown's rigid structure and expectations. A squad trip to a cinema the month after signing, during which Palmer decided to leave early, led to Brown disciplining him for a breach of club rules for instance, and once the tone was set a number of other battles followed. By January 1970 Palmer was on the transfer list at his own request, and there was clearly no way back for him.
A court case and subsequent driving ban that month served to emphasise the differences between the player and manager; Palmer had found himself on the wrong side of the law whilst Brown had previously served as a police officer and maintained a strict zero tolerance attitude towards any sort of infringements thereafter. In more modern times it might be sensed that Palmer's nature simply warranted a different approach, but the 'Bomber's' management style never relied on subtlety and in the May he confirmed his decision to cut his losses on the £70,000 fee that had been paid and gave his player a free transfer.
It was presumed that this would be the end of the matter, but Palmer, often accused of being 'outspoken' in those more deferential times, did still intend of having the final word. In August he joined Cape Town City and the following month there was to be a rude awakening for Brown when on this day a national Sunday paper launched a 'warts and all' series detailing from South Africa the views and stories of the now ex Rokerman. Whereas Palmer's seemingly divergent traits would be better understood now it was easy then to tag him as a controversial figure, but even still the new column was quite the exposé, with the account being labelled as an 'explosive' chat with 'football's stormiest rebel'.

Zac Thornton entered today's game with a 2.93 ERA in 11 starts. It's been quite the surprising season for the rookie lefty, who has managed those impressive topline numbers despite boasting less than flashy stuff and underlying peripherals. Alas, those topline numbers look a little bit worse after today's game, as Thornton underwent his worst start as a major leaguer, and the Mets were not able to work themselves out of the hole he put them in, resulting in a 9-5 loss to the Giants.
San Francisco struck within minutes of the game's start, as Rafael Devers socked Thornton's fourth pitch of the afternoon over the right field wall for a one-out solo homer. The Mets answered back in the bottom of the second when A.J. Ewing—who has been struggling mightily in the second-half—socked a two-out, two-run homer off Giants starter Anthony Molina. That gave the Amazins a 2-1 lead, but unfortunately they would not hold it for long. Thornton surrendered a lead-off single in the third inning, followed by a two-run blast to Christian Koss to put the Giants back in front.
Thornton went on to retire his next eight batters, right up until Koss—who entered today's game with just one homer this season—came to the plate again in the top of the fifth, and he hit his second home run of the afternoon. Not to be outdone, Devers came up two batters later following a single and socked his second home run of the day. Thornton surrendered one hit—a double from Bryce Eldridge, the fourth straight two-out hit of the inning—before finally retiring the Giants, but it was now a 6-2 ballgame.
Meanwhile, the Mets's bats did little against Molina after Ewing's homer (that hit in fact remained the only one surrendered by the Giants through six innings). Both teams went to their bullpens in the sixth inning—albeit with Molina's final line looking a lot better than Thornton's ugly one (5 innings, 7 hits, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts, 6 runs). Alas, the potential tying run was stranded, as Francisco Lindor grounded out to first to end the threat.
And the Giants quickly acted to make sure the Mets would not continue to claw their way back into the game. Jefry Yan took the mound in the top of the eighth and issued a one-out walk to Eldridge, followed by a two-run homer from Osleivis Basabe. That made it 8-3, but San Francisco still wasn't quite done. Justin Hagenman pitched the ninth, and just like every non-Devenski Mets pitcher of the day, he surrendered a homer—this one a one-out solo shot for Grant McCray. That made it six dingers for the Giants, in case you weren't keeping count.

Long-term US yields are near multi-decade highs, pushing up mortgage and corporate borrowing costs and threatening stocks. Bessent already doubled long-term Treasury buybacks last month, but the US 30-year yield (^TYX) has climbed back toward its highest level since 2007.
Now another potential pressure point is emerging from ****** an, the largest foreign holder of US government debt, with about $1.1 trillion of Treasurys.
Japan spent decades with interest rates near zero. Now, its 10-year government bond yields around 3% for the first time since 1996. ****** anese savers and institutions can suddenly get paid at home, giving them less reason to send money overseas into Treasurys and other foreign bonds.

NASCAR legend Kurt Busch recently joined CNN anchor Anderson Cooper on his podcast, All There Is, which explores themes of loss and grief. They spoke for nearly 30 minutes about his brother Kyle -- the winningest driver in NASCAR national series history -- who died tragically at the age of 41 earlier this year.

Kelly Osbourne has shared an update on her mental and physical health following the death of her father and intense public scrutiny over her appearance.
Osbourne has admitted that she was struggling following the death of her father, rocker Ozzy Osbourne, in July 2025.
"I didn't navigate it – I wasn't well," Osbourne told ******* o!. "How can you navigate something so cruel when you're so sick? I'm getting a lot better. I've got all the help I need and I'm grateful for the support I have in my life."
The 41-year-old said she's doing better now, over a year later, but added that healing isn't linear and her physical and mental health are "not going to be fixed in a day."
"It's one foot in front of the other," she told the publication. "You've got to fix the head before you can fix the body. It's a slow process. It's going to take me a minute. I'm not going to be fixed in a day. I'm not going to be fixed on one therapy session. This is a lifetime of work I've got to do and continue to do for the rest of my life.

Investment management company First Pacific Advisors recently released its "FPA Queens Road Small Cap Value Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The opening week of fall sports was a busy one. Local volleyball teams played multiple games and Astoria soccer teams took the pitch for the first time. Here's what happened on the field and on the court.

Improvement looks to be the name of the game for local volleyball teams.
Seaside, Knappa and Jewell flashed moments of good play during their first official weeks on the court. The Seagulls, under new coach Nicole Aydt, look to be coming into their own. After rebuilding the program behind freshmen, the Seagulls won just one game over the last two seasons.
Now, with many of the players entering their third year in the program, the Lady Gulls' improvement looks to be real. The Seagulls had a solid showing at last Saturday's seven team tournament at Warrenton. Seaside and Warrenton played two great matches against each other including a three-set thriller in the semi-finals. After struggling last season to maintain points, the Seagulls defense, passing and serving was very solid. Junior libero Chloe Baker served great against Warrenton and her defense helped the Seagulls all day Saturday. Senior captain Autumn Fenton and juniors Araya Edwards, Sophia Saso and Tiera Spivey make up a solid group of building blocks for Seaside.

GOFFSTOWN - Avery Flynn had 29 **** ists and 13 digs as the Dover High School volleyball team, the defending Division I state champions, opened with a 3-2 win over Goffstown.
Individual game scores were 21-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-22, 15-12.
"It was a great win," Dover head coach Whitney Carrier said. "We have spent a lot of time in preseason putting ourselves in difficult situations so we can learn how to deal with the stress and pressure of struggling through something, and that paid off tonight. They worked really hard as a team and I'm proud of them."
Molly OConnor added nine kills and four aces for the Green Wave, while Rylen Marchione had seven kills and three blocks.

Hospitals thought losing hundreds of billions in Medicaid funding through GOP-led cuts last year was bad. But coming regulations from the Trump administration could slash their funding even deeper than Congress did.
Two recently proposed rules from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services would cost hospitals hundreds of billions of dollars more, hospital executives told POLITICO. The rules, which target taxes states use to get more federal Medicaid dollars — and which yield higher payments to hospitals — have prompted hospitals to launch another major lobbying blitz after record spending last year.
"Our core message to CMS is to stick to the statute. Congress cut enough," said Robert Nelb, director of policy at America's Essential Hospitals, which represents hospitals serving large Medicaid populations.
"There's no need to cut any more out of the Medicaid system at a time when the safety net is really struggling," Nelb added.
If the rules are finalized and they lose hundreds of billions on top of Congress' funding cuts, hospitals say they'll be forced to reduce services, lay off workers, consolidate operations or shutter entirely. Some systems are already doing so, telling POLITICO they've cut staff, ended contracts and slashed hospital beds in response to predicted losses.

Didn't have much to do in the first half but did what needed to be done without fuss and was only slightly busier in the second half, again just dealing with what needed to be dealt with without fuss.
Pereira was forced into a save in the 54th minute after Wing was caught flat-footed and not defending the edge of the box. Pereira immediately pounced on the rebound but wasn't able to fully claim it/deal with it while under pressure from the Mansfield attacker; he was somewhat fortunate that he won a foul from this.
A good claim in the 70th minute from a high ball was his only other notable contribution, outside of making a couple of routine stops in both halves.
Dokes just did what Dokes does – for the most part he was defensively diligent and made a nuisance of himself further up the pitch on the overlap.

Katie Meyer's No. 19 will officially be the first jersey number retired in Stanford women's soccer history.
The former standout goalkeeper will be honored during a ceremony before the Cardinal's home match against USC on Thursday. Meyer, who played for Stanford from 2018 to 2021, died by suicide in March 2022. The two-time team captain helped lead the Cardinal to the 2019 national championship.
"Katie was an extraordinary competitor, an exceptional leader and, most importantly, an incredible person who had a profound impact on everyone around her," Stanford women's soccer coach Paul Ratcliffe said in a statement. "She played the game with such passion and courage, and she brought a joy and energy to our program that was uniquely Katie.
"Retiring the No. 19 is a meaningful way for us to honor her legacy and ensure that future generations of Stanford women's soccer players understand the impact she had on this program, this university and the people who had the privilege of knowing her."
According to Stanford athletics, the match against USC will also serve as the school's annual Mental Health Awareness match. The Cardinal will distribute "Mental Health Matters" hats to fans in attendance, and various on-campus organizations will be present to promote mental health awareness and emphasize the importance of supporting people who may be struggling.

I feel as though I have already written this recap about 20 times this season. The Dbacks starting pitching was able to keep the team in the game, but the offense never got going in this one as they have yet to get a hit with RISP this series.
Perhaps the tone of the day was set before the game even started when the team announced the reinforcements have finally arrived! In the form of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Blake Walston…. Yawn. Definitely not what the fans had in mind when the reinforcements kept getting brought up going into the trade deadline. Feels a lot like the game today, yawn.
Eduardo Rodriguez was ok allowing 3 runs, but labored through a couple of long innings that knocked him out of the game after just 5 innings. He threw 31 pitches in the first inning alone.
Gerardo Carillo really struggled in this one as he came in and could not throw strikes and wound up walking a batter and giving up 2 hits resulting in 3 ER. The Philles were really able to execute on offense tonight as they were able to do the job and put the ball in play with runners on base and hit sac fly RBI's to go along with 13 hits against the Dbacks pitching staff.
The top 4 of the Dbacks order Perdomo, Carroll, Moreno, and Marte went a combined 1-15 tonight. This group flat out needs to start producing if this team is going to contend. And specifically Corbin Carroll continues to really be struggling as of late as he is just 1-9 in the series so far and 2-19 since the start of the Giants series. Its also worth noting that Carroll appeared to be grimacing while running up the line in the 6th inning and may be worth monitoring as he may be playing through something. According to Torey in the postgame, Carroll has some low back discomfort the last couple of days but in Torey's words "its that time of the year" and is "in there tomorrow".

Spencer Jones was, is, and will always be an enigma. He's an incredibly divisive player, one who dazzles with his pure athleticism at his hulking size, with true light-tower power, all with an Achilles heel of struggling mightily to make contact. He's a true four-tool player and will test the absolute limits of just how good a player with those tools can be, with arguably the most important tool completely missing from his toolshed.
Jones has had his highs and lows this season, but the reality is that he's steadily improved over the course of the season, particularly after each promotion. He's getting by with his clear weaknesses, while not looking overmatched against velocity or left-handed pitching, two things that always were his bugaboos in the minors. Tonight in Anaheim, as September 1st bled into September 2nd, he was the catalyst in a 7-3 Yankees win that washed the bad taste of Monday night out of everyone's mouths.
The Yankees were abhorrent in the first inning in August. As a team, they slashed .138/.214/.202 with just two total runs across 27 games, both on August 26th against Houston. Well, on the first day of September, they put up three in the first inning against Grayson Rodriguez on a pair of home runs by Jones and Jazz Chisholm Jr. The former hit his second ****** anic shot to right-center field in as many nights, while the latter snuck an excuse-me liner inside the left-field foul pole for one of the more fascinating home runs you'll ever see.

Cathie Wood is doubling down on Cerebras Systems (CBRS) at a time when the artificial intelligence (AI) chip stock is struggling to regain its footing. Ark Invest bought another 93,290 Cerebras shares on Aug. 25 across multiple exchange-traded funds (ETFs), worth roughly $17.2 million based on the reported purchase value. That follows additional buying earlier in August.
