Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles and Head Coach Ben Johnson met with the media today to open up training camp. Here are some noteworthy nuggets.
Kyler Gordon was the talk of the town today as he continues to not be healthy enough to play. Spidey opens up training camp on the Physically Unable to Participate list. Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson were understandably frustrated. According to them, he has done everything he has needed to do this off-season to prepare and get healthy, but when asked about what his message has been to Kyler Gordon, Ben Johnson succinctly said: "Get healthy."
A healthy Kyler goes a long way for this team. But your best ability is availability, so it remains to be seen if he sees out his recently inked contract just a year ago.
Joining Kyler on PUP are TJ Edwards, Elijah Hicks, Keyshaun Elliott, and Montez Sweat, but none of them are expected to be long-term.

While it'll still be some time until Raynham's Brody ***** ila takes the mound for the Texas Rangers or any of its affiliates, you can already test the 6-foot-9 southpaw's skills against the MLB's best in the virtual realm.
The former Bishop Feehan ace, 2025-26 MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year and 2025-26 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year, who was selected in the third round (89th overall) by the Rangers in the 2026 MLB Draft, is already a usable player in MLB The Show 26's Diamond Dynasty mode.
Bumila is one of 34 MLB prospects added to the game as part of its draft card series, which dropped on the game on July 11. The left-handed pitcher can be pulled in one of the 2026 MLB Draft virtual card packs in Diamond Dynasty mode, in which players can build teams by collecting player cards of active and former players to face off against other players' custom-built teams or the computer in a variety of game modes from full games to situations to tournaments and mini seasons.
The former University of Texas commit is joined by fellow Rangers draft pick and LHP Gio Rojas in the card series, who was introduced along ***** ila and second round pick Connor Comeau during a press conference on Tuesday, July 21.
Bumila comes in rated as a 96 overall. He has a maximum value of 99 in both velocity and break as well as a 90 in arm strength, 95 in durability and 78 in control.

An early look at the Madden 27 ratings is here, and there are some surprises for fans.
One of those comes when taking a look at the highest-rated rookies in the game. There are several recognizable names among that grouping, and unsurprisingly, every name on the list was selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. However, there is one prominent player selected in the first round this year that was shockingly omitted from the top 10 rated rookies.
Despite capturing the Heisman Trophy last year and being selected by the Las Vegas Raiders as the No. 1 overall draft pick, Fernando Mendoza was not among the top 10 rated rookies in the new game. The cut-off to make that list was a 78 overall rating, while Mendoza only sits at a 74 overall – missing the top 10 by just a few points.
But reports indicate that the franchise plans to run with Kirk Cousins as the starter this year, so his rating should reflect that he may not make as big an impact in his rookie season. And no one is going to care about his Madden rating in July if he does make the field and plays well this season. It is just a game, after all.
But someone has to be among the top 10 rated rookies in the game, so who made that list? Well, at the top of the list was running back Jeremiyah Love, the third overall selection in the draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Love procured an 82 overall rating in the game. Joining him with an 82 rating was safety Caleb Downs, who was picked by the Dallas Cowboys with the 11th overall pick in the draft.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's 'Double Nickel' plan would freeze property taxes at 55, saving roughly 3.3 million homeowners $950 a year.
No-income-tax states like Florida and Tennessee are most likely to adopt similar policies, while high-tax states like New Jersey may pursue means-tested versions.
Homeowners near 55 should check existing county exemptions they may already qualify for and file appraisal protests before any new legislation passes.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
Texas is floating a proposal that could reshape how millions of homeowners think about turning 55. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's "Double Nickel" plan would drop the qualifying age for a homestead property-tax freeze from 65 to 55, giving eligible homeowners an extra decade of protection from rising tax bills. The idea is being studied ahead of the 2027 legislative session in a state where property taxes supply 40.7% of state and local tax revenue and the effective rate on owner-occupied homes is 1.40%. That raises a fair question for homeowners elsewhere: Could this spread?

Jalen Carter has signed a four-year extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, the club said Tuesday, in a deal that reportedly makes him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
Though the 2025 Super Bowl winners did not disclose financial terms, US media said the extension was worth $152 million (133.5 million euros), or $38 million per year, with $106 million guaranteed.
Carter, 25, is one of the NFL's most highly-rated young defenders, having been selected to each of the last two Pro Bowls.
He was drafted ninth in the first round in 2023, and became a cornerstone of the Eagles' vaunted defense.
Carter has 13.5 quarterback sacks and 108 tackles across his first three seasons with Philadelphia.

A year ago, the Bears signed cornerback Kyler Gordon to a three-year, $40 million contract extension. They didn't get much for their investment.
Gordon played in just three games last season as he struggled with groin, hamstring and calf injuries. Now he's on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, and Bears General Manager Ryan Poles says everyone in Chicago is getting frustrated.
"Kyler Gordon on PUP, with his calf, he was here all offseason training, getting right. We had a delay in that. All hands on deck to get him back," Poles said. "He's frustrated, we're frustrated. We just want him back. He helps our football team. But we have to move forward with the guys we have, and when he's ready to go he'll be ready to go. Everybody here is putting all their time and effort to get him back right."
Asked how much time Gordon will miss, Poles said there's no word on that.
"I really don't know. He's got to get right and the important thing we've all talked about is when he gets back he's got to stay back," Poles said. "When he gets back he's got to earn that trust back."

When it comes to Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon, the one word that encapsulates his current injury situation is "frustration."
Gordon, a former second-round pick, was hampered by soft tissue injuries last season, playing in just three regular-season games with two stints on injured reserve. After playing in two postseason games, the arrow was pointed up for Gordon, who's elevated the defense when he's on the field.
But Gordon suffered yet another soft tissue injury -- a calf injury, as confirmed by general manager Ryan Poles -- that held him out of the offseason program and has him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start training camp. There's also no current timetable for his return.
"Obviously, he's frustrated," Poles said Tuesday. "We're frustrated. Everybody here is putting their time and effort into getting him back."
Head coach Ben Johnson hasn't been shy when it comes to voicing his frustration with Gordon, making it clear that his lack of availability has been a problem. On report day, Johnson had a message to Gordon as he starts the summer injured.

The company spent the past year going from survival questions to one of the market's biggest gainers, which makes its retreat from the high the more interesting story.
What Changed To Send Intel (INTC) Up More Than Fourfold?
Over the past year, Intel stock more than quadrupled, climbing about 308%, while the broader market managed nearly 18%. The move was not built on hope. By the company's own account, the conversation flipped from whether Intel could survive to how fast it can add capacity to keep up with demand. Revenue over the last twelve months reached about $57 billion and grew 7.5%, an acceleration from a three-year average near 2%. The businesses tied to AI now make up about 60% of revenue and grew 40% year over year, and management says the CPU is reclaiming ground inside AI systems, with the ratio of processors to accelerators shifting from one-in-eight toward one-in-four.
Is This Just The AI Chip Trade Lifting Everything?
Only partly. AMD rode the same wave and roughly tripled, up about 222%, but Nvidia gained only about 19% and Qualcomm about 7% over the same stretch, a fraction of that. The gains concentrated in the two biggest movers, and Intel outran even AMD. What set it apart was progress in its own factories: management says its 18A manufacturing process is yielding ahead of internal plans, and the company has pointed to multiyear deals with customers such as Google, a slot for its Xeon server chips inside Nvidia's flagship AI systems, and a headline tie-up with Elon Musk's ventures.

New vehicle sales in Thailand expanded by 17% to 58,724 units in June 2026, up from 50,079 units a year earlier, according to the latest data released by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). The market was driven higher by continued strong demand for passenger battery electric vehicles (BEVs), sales of which surged by 140% year-on-year to 22,275 units last month, while sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger vehicles declined by 34% to 8,114 units.
The Thai domestic vehicle market continued to recover last month, supported by a pick-up in economic activity in the country in recent months. The latest government data show that GDP growth accelerated to 2.8% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, up from 2.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025, helped by a sharp rise in government spending and stronger private investment growth, while private consumption growth eased slightly.
In the first six months of 2026, Thailand's domestic vehicle market expanded by almost 15% to 346,966 units, from 302,694 units a year earlier. Sales of pickup trucks fell by 4% to 71,271 units in this period, while sales of light passenger vehicles increased by 22% to 261,319 units, driven mainly by a 93% surge in mostly Chinese battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales to 104,418 units and a 21% increase in hybrid electric vehicle sales to 81,502 units, while sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger vehicles fell by 25% to 54,506 units.
Vehicle production in the country fell by 1% to 717,212 vehicles year-to-date, reflecting an 8% drop in exports to 421,144 units, with shipments to markets in the Middle East disrupted by the US-Iran conflict.
The FTI said it expects vehicle production in the country to reach 1.45 million units in 2026, including 550,000 for sale domestically and 900,000 for export. GlobalData is forecasting light vehicle sales to rise by 5% to 647,000 units this year, after growing by 9% to 618,000 units in 2025, followed by a 5% rise to 679,000 units in 2027.

The BitMart and BitMEX shutdowns have drawn bullish reactions, with ******* ysts calling the closures a healthy reset.
BitMart began winding down on Sunday, three days after BitMEX confirmed its own exit. AscendEX closed on July 1, bringing the total number of exchange closures this month to 3.
Moonrock Capital founder and managing partner Simon Dedic argued that the recent closures of several centralised crypto exchanges reflect deeper flaws in the industry's business model.
"The extraction model has a fatal flaw: it needs a steady supply of victims. When those dry up, so does the business. One of the underrated perks of a brutal bear: the market is actually healing," he noted.
Ran Neuner, CEO of Crypto Banter, made a cycle-timing argument instead. According to him,

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) beat quarterly expectations, secured $20 billion in net awards, reported record backlog, and raised its 2026 sales and MTM-adjusted earnings forecasts. Yet the shares closed 2.23% lower at $512.29 on July 21.
The contradiction becomes clearer when the quality of the earnings beat is separated from the size of the order book. ***** ysts said a substantially lower tax rate drove much of the upside, while operating income declined in two of Northrop's four segments. The company also left its segment operating-income and adjusted free-cash-flow forecasts unchanged.
JPMorgan ***** yst Seth Seifman pointed to the market's "tendency to punish execution challenges." That appears to capture the reaction. Investors did not question whether Northrop can win more work. They questioned how much profit it can retain while delivering that work and expanding production.
Are the latest program charges temporary costs of meeting surging defense demand, or evidence that Northrop's backlog is growing faster than its ability to execute profitably?
The bull case is that Northrop's execution problems remain concentrated in a few programs, while the broader demand environment is becoming stronger.

UEFA has taken a firm stance against FIFA, declaring that soccer is 'not theirs to sell' in response to the governing body's controversial proposal. Global soccer's top authority is considering selling stakes in "event operations," presumably such as the World Cup, to private investors, as confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
The scheme could see FIFA president Gianni Infantino pocket millions should a deal be approved. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly been brought into the discussions via the Kushner family.
While the proposal is still being deliberated internally, it has been met with significant opposition from UEFA, as per The Mirror.

Shares of D-Wave Quantum (NYSE: QBTS) jumped Monday morning on the announcement that AT&T (NYSE: T) is expanding its use of the company's quantum computing technology across its network operations. This is excellent news in a rough year for D-Wave's stock, which is down more than 26% in 2026.
So should investors buy D-Wave Quantum's stock now?
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
This new agreement with AT&T expands on a pilot program that demonstrated D-Wave's annealing quantum computing cut processing time for a network optimization workload by 240x, from approximately one hour to 15 seconds.
Ultimately, this result with AT&T could catalyze D-Wave as other companies take notice of the real-world results from the pilot program. The quantum computing industry as a whole could use a boost, having largely lost investor enthusiasm this year after a 2025 run-up.

Alphabet reported earnings on July 22 and the stock dropped more than 7% in a single session. The numbers weren't bad. Cloud grew 82% year over year. Advertising held up. EPS beat. What rattled investors was the spending. Capital expenditure guidance for 2026 came in at $195 billion to $205 billion. Free cash flow went negative for the first time in the company's history. The market looked at that bill and sold first, asked questions later.
Five days later, Phillip Securities ****** yst Serena Lim Yi Qi published a note saying the market got it wrong. On July 27, she upgraded Alphabet to Buy from Accumulate, lowered her price target to $425 from $450, and explained why the combination of those two moves makes sense.
The upgrade from Accumulate to Buy is the meaningful part of the call. Phillip Securities is saying Alphabet's AI momentum has reached the point where sitting on the sidelines no longer makes sense, according to Investing.com.
Lim Yi Qi pointed to Alphabet's vertically integrated AI ecosystem as the core of the bull case. The company controls its own custom silicon through its Tensor Processing Units, runs optimized data centers, and deploys its Gemini models across Search, Cloud, and its broader product suite. That integration, in her view, gives Alphabet a structural advantage that is starting to show up in the numbers in a meaningful way.
The free cash flow picture is more complicated. Alphabet turned negative on free cash flow for the first time this quarter because of the scale of its AI investment. Lim Yi Qi views that as a temporary condition supporting stronger long-term growth rather than a structural problem. The company has also raised its 2026 capex guidance to a range of $195 billion to $205 billion, signaling the buildout is far from over.

When Ted Lasso concluded with Season 3, it was written and marketed as the end of the story. Three years later, the Apple TV+ series is back with a new chapter as Ted returns to England to coach AFC Richmond Women's Team. The fresh premise reunites familiar faces including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift alongside Jason Sudeikis, while introducing a host of new characters.
Juno Temple is usually sends me down an archival fashion rabbit hole, and more often than not it leads to Versace. This time, only the archival part remained true.
Her Roberto Cavalli Spring 2001 printed cowl-neck gown felt perfectly suited to her free-spirited style. Roberto Cavalli's collections from this era were defined by fluid silhouettes, exotic, psychedelic prints and unapologetically bold colour combinations that celebrated glamour. The turquoise, pink and lime palette captures everything that made early-2000s Cavalli so distinctive.

The football-shaped bag was exactly the playful finishing touch I expect from Juno.

Moving from California to Nevada eliminates the 9.3% state income tax on RMDs, saving six figures over 20 years on a $2.1 million IRA.
Nevada residency doesn't fix federal exposure: IRMAA surcharges kick in above $109,000 MAGI, and up to 85% of Social Security stays federally taxable.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution of up to $111,000 in 2026 can satisfy the entire first RMD and keep it out of AGI completely.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
A recent post on r/personalfinance describes exactly this move: a father who rolled a large 401(k) into a traditional IRA at 72, then relocated from California to Nevada for what the poster called "a 9.3% instant savings once RMD hits." The specifics fit a common profile: a $2.1 million balance, a first required minimum distribution one year away, and a California tax bill that grows every year the account does. The math on why the U-Haul is worth it, and the federal trap the move does not solve, is more interesting than the headline.

Those beginning to worry about the renewed chip stock rout may find comfort in the fact that the broader markets are holding up very well.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) is still trading near record highs and above all key moving averages, per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) is holding above its 100-day and 200-day moving averages, but late last week it slipped below the 50-day.
A few factors are preventing the chip stock pullback from harming the broader market, according to Charles Schwab strategist Kevin Gordon. However, investors should be on the lookout for whether these trends reverse.
'You've got essentially two-thirds of S&P 500 companies that are trading above their 200-day moving average. That's relatively healthy and still consistent with the market that is more rotational in nature and not necessarily one that is correctional," Gordon said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid.
The equal-weighted index and cyclical stocks have all signaled a strong economy, he explained. "And when you do look at the reaction of the market to some of these earnings beats, most of the pressure and most of the underperformance has been concentrated in the tech sector. Outside of that, when you look at financials or industrials or consumer discretionary, the reaction in the market has actually been positive."

The PGA Tour has begun revealing which tournaments will become Championship Series events in 2028 when a new two-track model is implemented.
First up for the PGA Tour's top-tier Championship Series is the Travelers Championship, which has been played annually at TPC River Highlands just outside Hartford, Connecticut, each June, typically the week after the U.S. Open. Since 2023, the Travelers has been one of eight $20 million signature events on the PGA Tour. The announcement was made on Monday.
In 2028, the PGA Tour Championship Series will comprise roughly 15 regular-season events, in addition to the four major championships, Players Championship, and playoff events. Purses for the PGA Tour-operated events (the non-majors) will be at least $20 million, with some tournaments like the Players and a revamped Tour Championship offering even more prize money. The second-tier Challenger Series will comprise at least 20 events, each offering much lower purses of at least $4 million. Both series will run from approximately February to August, and will include annual promotion and relegation between the circuits.
"Right now we have 47 events at the PGA Tour—we'll have 47 events going forward," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said when he unveiled the plans for the new scheduling model in June. "That current model serves roughly 230 players. We'll serve that amount of players, the same. We are just organized now in a more simple understanding competitively so our fans can understand it, our partners know what they're getting as far as value. So we think we've just organized the same tour into a much more interesting and competitive system."
The second confirmed Championship Series event will be sponsored by Sompo, a ***** anese insurance and financial services firm, the PGA Tour announced on Tuesday. The event's market has yet to be determined, though. In 2027, Sompo will back a full-field (non-signature) PGA Tour event at Silverado Resort's North Course in Napa, California, July 29 to Aug. 1—effectively replacing the Rocket Classic in Detroit, which is leaving the PGA Tour schedule after this season. In 2028, the Sompo event will relocate to a new market as part of the transition to the Championship Series.

Demolition derbies are all about the destruction, but a crash in Ohio resulted in one driver being airlifted to the hospital as well as a lifetime ban for the other driver involved.
The crash happened at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, roughly halfway between Cincinnati and Columbus, on Saturday, July 25. The Washington Court House Record Herald reports that driver Hunter Wolf of Lynchburg, Ohio, delivered a direct hit to the driver-side door of a competitor, causing serious injuries to that driver.
Emergency crews extricated the victim from his vehicle and established a landing zone at the fairgrounds for a medical helicopter due to the severity of the driver's injuries. The Record Herald reports that the victim has not been identified and the extent of the injuries are not known.
Derbydog Inc., which organized the demolition derby, issued a lifetime ban to Wolf on Monday, July 27, according to a statement posted to Facebook by owners Jeremy and Frances Hejduk.
"While we can't absolutely know the intentions of every driver, the obvious nature of the direct driver's door hit by Hunter Wolf proves he has absolutely no concern for safety for fellow drivers," the Hejduks said in the statement. "This type of behavior will not be tolerated by Derbydog."
