A memorial service for Etta Froio, former senior vice president, executive editor and ******* ociate publisher of Fairchild Publications, parent company of WWD, is planned for Sept. 24 in New York City.
Froio died June 11 at a care facility in Shrewsbury, N.J., following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 94.

It's shaping up to be an expensive week for Prince Harry.
Just as the duke, ****** ss Meghan and their children prepare to move from California back to Britain, a judge has ordered Harry, Elton John and a handful of other claimants to pay almost $ 13 million to ****** ociated Newspapers Limited, publisher of the Daily Mail, MailOnline and the Mail on Sunday.
An initial payment of $13 million (£9,544,355) toward ANL's legal costs must be made by 4 p.m. on Aug. 28, the judge ruled on Friday. This is just the first round of legal costs. The final figure will be determined at a later hearing.
The judge has not enforced a cap on the total costs Harry and the other claimants may face.
The group of seven lost their lawsuit against the publisher last month after alleging that the publications unlawfully gathered information for their reporting. Supposed privacy breaches include voicemail interception, phone hacking and obtaining personal information through deception.

It's fair to wonder if the Chicago Bears can really have another top offensive line until we see how the new center and left tackle gel with the three returning starters. But that's not stopping some publications from picking them as a top ten unit heading into the 2026 season.
Sharp Football ******* ysis has them ranked sixth, and FTN Fantasy ranks them sixth as well, saying, "If Chicago can get average play at left tackle and center, they can become a top three offensive line again. If not, this unit may need even more magic from Caleb Williams."
Pro Fooball Network has them ranked second, ESPN projects the Bears as the third-best offensive line, while Fantasy Pros has them fifth, saying, "While the left tackle spot could be an open competition between three players, Darnell Wright at right tackle and Thuney at left guard make this offensive line a top-five unit."
Head coach Ben Johnson seems locked in with Garrett Bradbury as his starting center, but when asked on Thursday morning if the play of Braxton Jones, who has taken the bulk of the left tackle reps, has hm ready to name a starter, he said this.
"We we're hoping maybe middle of next week we'll have a lot of clarity there. We're going to continue to roll guys through. You know, Kiran's [Amegadjie] certainly taking some reps over there, Jedric [Wills Jr.], Theo's [Benedet] in the mix. This is not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination."

Charles Leclerc and his wife, Alexandra Leclerc, spent another day aboard a yacht off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, as conflicting reports continued about whether they are expecting their first child.
The Formula 1 driver and Alexandra were photographed on Sunday, August 2nd. The outing came shortly after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Photographs published by Just Jared showed Charles and Alexandra swimming, sunbathing and returning to the yacht after spending time in the water.
Several publications have described Alexandra as pregnant or referred to her recent outfits as maternity fashion. Neither she nor Charles has publicly announced a pregnancy.
Charles wore Frescobol Carioca swim shorts, while Alexandra selected a bikini for the outing. Other images showed them using the yacht's outdoor shower and relaxing together on deck. The August 2nd outing followed an earlier day at sea with the couple's dachshund, Leo.

The company said it would provide complete details and a description of the proposed transaction once finalized.
Nano said Infinite Epigenetics is "not a concept company" and "not an AI wrapper," pointing to operating businesses, a CLIA-certified methylation laboratory, existing commercial revenue, a network of more than 7,500 healthcare providers, issued intellectual property, and a proprietary database of more than 120,000 biological samples. The company also said Infinite's team has authored over 50 publications, and that a single sample processed in Infinite's CLIA-certified laboratory can read more than one million epigenetic signals. Nano said it selected Infinite from approximately 20 opportunities it evaluated and framed the transaction as a shift from 3D printing to AI-powered preventive health and diagnostics.

The cause of death of an American woman found dead in a scenic Irish town earlier this week has been revealed, according to a report.
Jamey Carney, 43, a New York native who moved to Ireland in 2021, died from suffocation after suffering head injuries, according to a report by The Irish Times, which cited the Irish state pathologist Dr. Linda Mulligan.
Initial reports suggested she had been beaten to death, but the newspaper reported the post-mortem found that suffocation — not her head injuries — caused her death. Police are investigating her death as a murder.

Lucid has been a paradox for a while. On the one hand, the company is making significant improvements, including year-over-year production rising 55% in 2025 and revenue rising 68% to nearly $1.4 billion.

Last week, Phil Mickelson’s transition from golf’s golden boy to disgraced and disgruntled former legend seemed to reach its natural conclusion. Reporter Alan Shipnuck, author of the definitive, unauthorized biography of Mickelson, published a detailed story for the golf publication Skratch outlining Mickelson’s history of transgressions, including alleged ******* ual harassment that got him kicked out of a private golf club earlier this year, and infidelity towards his wife, Amy Mickelson.
Now, Phil Mickelson, through a spokesperson, is fighting back against Shipnuck’s report, calling it a “drive-by shooting heavy on implication but unsupported by any on-the-record sources.”
In a more than 700-word statement obtained by David Rumsey in Front Office Sports, Mickelson’s spokesperson attacks Shipnuck directly, claiming the reporter used details provided by anonymous sources to imply certain things about Mickelson without ever firmly reporting the implications as fact.
“[The report] relies on implication and anonymous sourcing to leave readers with an impression the reporting itself never establishes,” the statement read. “The article never says Phil Mickelson was kicked out of a golf club because it can’t. Instead, it is written to leave readers with that impression without ever having to report it as fact.”
Of course, such narrow framing in a piece of this nature is normal. Publications are reluctant to report details as fact unless there is indisputable evidence to support it. For a piece like Shipnuck’s, which relies on conversations with sources close to Mickelson, the reporter cannot always verify without a shadow of a doubt if something is true. Instead, it’s the reporters job to use his/her editorial judgment, corroborate with multiple sources, and present the most accurate version of the story based on the information available.

D1Baseball included Florida right-hander Aidan King and shortstop Brendan Lawson on its All-America Second Team Thursday. Lawson made it as a designated hitter.
Despite King being left off the College Baseball Foundation's list earlier this week, he is a unanimous All-American after being named one by the five major publications: The American Baseball Coaches ***** ociation, Baseball America, D1Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers ***** ociation and Perfect Game.
King became the first Florida underclassman to win SEC Pitcher of the Year and fourth in conference history, after finishing the 2026 season with eight wins, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP over 97 innings. Opposing batters hit just .218 against him. King struck out 92 batters and walked 19, giving him a 4.84 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He also had eight quality starts, including six in SEC play.
It's Lawson's second All-America nod, after being recognized as a Second-Tearmer by Baseball America. Lawson's 1.210 OPS, .511 on-base percentage and .699 slugging percentage led the team, as did his 32 extra-base hits, 19 home runs, 68 runs, 130 total bases and 53 walks.
Caden McDonald is the Gator left off this list. McDonald received a First Team nod from the CBF earlier in the week and made the Baseball America, NCBWA and Perfect Game Second Teams. The trio earned 11 total All-America honors.

Gonzaga's Davis Fogle and Massamba Diop both appeared in way-too-early mock drafts published by national media outlets hours after Wednesday's 2026 NBA Draft concluded at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Fogle's name appeared most frequently, with multiple publications projecting the sophomore wing as either a first- or second-round pick in 2027. In Bleacher Report's way-too-early mock draft, author Jonathan Wasserman projects Fogle to be picked No. 28 overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder. CBS Sports didn't include Fogle in its first-round projections, but writer Adam Finkelstein highlighted Fogle as one of the returning college players "expected to make a jump" in 2026-27.
"Essentially, these would be players who weren't viewed as first-round candidates this year, but could be on the verge of a breakout season," Finkelstein wrote. "These are harder to forecast, but some of the players I'll be watching most closely include Duke's Dame Sarr, USC's Alijah Arenas, NC State's Paul McNeil, Texas' Matas Vokietaitis, Miami's Shelton Henderson, Arizona's Ivan Kharchenkov, and Gonzaga's Davis Fogle."

Some of the college football preview magazines have hit the shelves, and one of the ones I like to leaf through -- and have for years -- is Lindy's Sports College Football preview. The annual magazine has been around for years, and you can pick up the 2026 edition on newsstands now. Yes, the physical magazines still exist, and it's good reading material to keep on your coffee table or other places people like to pick up things to read (you know where I'm going).
Ohio State lost a lot of talent to the NFL last year, and we've been making the rounds on some of the national media's perception of the Buckeyes heading into the fall, so why not check in with where Lindy's has the Buckeyes in its preseason rankings?
While some of the national publications and websites have OSU as the preseason No. 1 team, Lindy's is a little more conservative, with the Buckeyes landing at No. 3 behind Oregon (1) and Texas (2). Lindy's believes Ohio State will make another run towards a College Football Playoff and potential national championship again, but there are questions.
"The Buckeyes started 12-0 and spent all season at No. 1 but somehow are amid a two-game losing streak. So Ryan Day's team has that angry edge again that has served them well," writes Lindy's. "Heisman-capable talents Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith are the most compelling pitch-and-catch duo in college football, and after 87 connections last year when Sayin was throwing as a mere redshirt freshman, their numbers will soar as they create a weekly highlight reel ... "Replicating the impact of three first-round picks on defense could be a problem for coordinator Matt Patricia unless Power 4 transfers James Smith, Qua Russaw, Terry Moore, and Earl Little Jr. pan out in a big way."
It's hard to argue with what Lindy's is throwing out there, but it's also extremely hard to peer into a crystal ball these days with so many unknowns with roster turnover and inequitable schedules in conferences that have ballooned over the last few years.

Back in 2015, Frank Moore held a team off-site meeting where members of his staff at the Southern California Golf ***** ociation were asked to draw a picture of their ideal workday.
One of those staffers, Julia Pine, a Bay Area native, drew herself at U.S. Open Final Qualifying site, sketching TV trucks and reporters that she ***** isted at "Golf's Longest Day."
"We talked about it and she said she loved the energy of the day, the human-interest stories that she helped uncover for Golf Channel and other national golf publications," recalled Moore, the longtime communications and marketing director for the SCGA. "It's no surprise that she looked to the USGA for her next opportunity."
Indeed, just a few years later, Pine manifested her dream day into her full-time job, including overseeing the communications strategy for U.S. Open Final Qualifying, not to mention the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open, among the 15 championships the ***** ociation oversees. In October, she was promoted to the USGA's senior director of communications and content, adding responsibilities for the brand side, including handicapping and Green Section. She'll attend upwards of six championships in person, highlighted by a three-week stretch in June that will take her from coast to coast: the U.S. Women's Open and Curtis Cup in Los Angeles and the U.S. Open on Long Island.
Pine cut her teeth at the SCGA but she has Northern California roots so we count her as one of our own. She moved from New York to Berkeley when she was 10, which was a return to the Bay Area for her father who had grown up in San Francisco. She still speaks fondly of attending the Athenian School, a non-traditional high school in Danville, that helped shape her world view while shepherding a dream of being an ESPN SportsCenter anchor. Golf wasn't yet part of the picture, and her dream evolved from in front of the camera to something more behind the scenes at Loyola Marymount University, where she became the sports editor by the second half of her sophomore year and majored in English with minors in Journalism and Ethical Studies. She served as beat writer for the men's basketball team and treated the school paper as if it was a full-time job. However, when she graduated, journalism jobs were sparse and so she decided to cast a wider net after asking herself a critical question: Is it journalism or sports that she wanted to pursue?

SEATTLE (AP) — A group of Democratic senators and one Republican, as well as two Democratic House committees, sent letters Monday to the National Science Foundation asking it to reverse course on its plan to dismantle a sprawling ocean monitoring network, with House lawmakers going further and accusing the agency of acting illegally.
The Ocean Observatories Initiative is a network of more than 900 ocean sensors built at a cost of $386 million. Over the last decade it has tracked ocean circulation, marine ecosystems, climate change and extreme weather, producing data freely available to the public and informing more than 500 scientific publications. The project was slated to run another 15 to 20 years.
The National Science Foundation had directed the removal of most of the system's instruments from waters off Oregon, Washington, Alaska, North Carolina and Greenland by 2027 — a decision scientists said came with no warning and no scientific review. The independent federal agency, which was established by Congress, described the move not as a cancellation but as a "descoping" aligned with a strategy to prioritize "evolving scientific priorities and emerging technologies." The Trump administration's proposed 2026 budget had included a 55% cut to the agency.
"It just seems like this is supreme stupidity and a violation of the fundamental distribution of powers in our Constitution," Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon told The ****** ociated Press. "This program is authorized, it's funded, and for the administration to shut it down without direction from Congress violates that vision in which the people's representatives decide what's done and funded, and the executive branch executes that vision."
Merkley and Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska co-led the letter, which was also signed by Democratic Sens. Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell of Washington, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Ron Wyden of Oregon. It urged the National Science Foundation, or NSF, to halt the dismantling of the Ocean Observatories Initiative and conduct a thorough review, including consultation with the marine science community, before any further action is taken.

The buoy 80 meters (260 feet) below the water's surface will be removed June 16 from the Ocean Observatories Initiative — a network of more than 900 ocean sensors built at a cost of $386 million that has continuously collected real-time data for more than a decade. But last month, the National Science Foundation announced it would dismantle most of the system, pulling instruments from waters off Oregon, Washington, Alaska, North Carolina and Greenland by 2027.
Funded by the foundation, the observatories have tracked everything from ocean circulation and marine ecosystems to climate change and extreme weather. Its data has been freely available and has informed more than 500 scientific publications. The project was slated to run for another 15 to 20 years.
In an emailed statement, the foundation said the decision is not a cancellation, but a “descoping” aligned with a “wider strategy of a nimbler approach to prioritize support for evolving scientific priorities and emerging technologies, as well as smart lifecycle management within its research infrastructure portfolio.” The foundation added that its decision drew in part on a 2025 National Academies report on the future of ocean science.
But for the scientists who built and operated the system — and the researchers, educators and students who rely on its data — the timing feels particularly punishing.
