The 2026 Syracuse Football season is two days away and we've got a lot of questions as the Orange prepare to welcome New Hampshire on Saturday. What will we learn from this game? It might not be too telling, but we've got some things we'll be watching for.
Kevin: Running game
I think the Orange will keep things vanilla but last week UAlbany averaged over 7 yards per carry against UNH. This means Syracuse should be able to control the line of scrimmage and chew up yardage without having to show any new wrinkles before they face Cal. On defense, I'm watching to see how Vince Kehres has his defense attack the running game of his opponent. Can the Syracuse front seven get into the backfield and force the Wildcats into obvious passing situations?
Mike: Early receiving impressions
I'll take the other offensive category featuring a vastly different cast than last year. With both Justus Ross-Simmons and Tyshawn Russell not in the two-deep for Week 1, I'm intrigued to see who in the room takes first steps towards being a prominent target this season. Could Umari Hatcher finally return to 2023 form? Do any of the underclassmen start an early breakout? And will the tight ends be a factor in the pass game this season? The reps should be spread around here so let's see who shines.

After a thrilling, 15-10 defensive-minded upset to open their 2026 college football season, the North Carolina Tar Heels will get Labor Day weekend off.
UNC (1-0) entered its Week Zero matchup vs. TCU as a touchdown-plus underdog, rightfully so considering the trajectory of each team's 2025 season. The Tar Heels traded punches with every first quarter blow from the Horned Frogs, then shut down their typically high-powered offense.
North Carolina gained contributions from virtually everyone on defense, highlighted by sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Lewis and Syracuse transfer Derek McDonald, who won ACC Player of the Week honors. Despite scoring just 13 points on offense, UNC looked much better under new OC Bobby Petrino, with ball movement and big plays the focus.
The Tar Heels will undoubtedly practice throughout this coming weekend, then prepare for their September 12 home opener vs. ETSU. If you plan on watching Week 1 games, though, here's five you should pay attention to as a North Carolina fan:
If you're spending your Friday night watching college football, this early-season matchup between Miami (FL) and Stanford is a must-watch.

The LSU Tigers have continued moving forward with plans to bring several players onto their roster who have already signed professional contracts. However, the team has been facing some significant pushback, and now the Georgia Attorney General has weighed in.
As LSU prepares for the upcoming season, it has ignited a firestorm throughout the SEC after it began securing commitments from former NFL players. While those players are technically barred from joining the team by NCAA and SEC rules, a Louisiana court ruling has opened up the possibility of those players joining the LSU roster. But that fight clearly is not over.
LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin have continued moving forward with plans to add at least three players who signed professional contracts this summer, including former Ole Miss players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris at tight end and defensive tackle, respectively.
Bringing those players onto the roster would violate two separate league rules, with the SEC prohibiting players from joining the conference after signing a professional contract while also barring intraconference transfers outside of the designated portal window.
However, a Baton Rouge judge has blocked both the NCAA and SEC from enforcing their restrictions involving eligibility, the transfer portal, and professional players returning to college football.

The night before the transfer window shut, it seemed it would close with Enzo Fernandez still at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were asking for £135m. It was more than Manchester City were prepared to pay. It took negotiations on 1 September to bring the price down to £125m, still a joint British transfer record and a deal that took the amount committed to buying players either to or from City this summer to around three quarters of a billion.
Had Chelsea not reduced their demands – which may be seen as an indication of their willingness to get rid of Fernandez, especially when their attempt to replace him with Monaco's Lamine Camara broke down – City might not have signed a third midfielder.
Instead, they completed a £326m revamp in the centre of the pitch. There were several pertinent elements. The £116m buy Elliot Anderson was always their first choice to replace captain Bernardo Silva, who was leaving when his contract expired and who then joined Real Madrid. City took added satisfaction from knowing some of their rivals wanted Anderson, including Manchester United.
Enzo Fernandez completed a £125m move to Manchester City on deadline day (Reuters)
The £85m arrival Ayyoub Bouaddi is seen as a player with the attributes to be world class and who, despite being only 18, is expected to play a lot of games this season. The Morocco international, who is studying for a maths degree, is regarded as belonging to the tradition of intelligent midfielders at City. Significantly, perhaps, City feel he is the only specialist No 6 in their squad.

President Donald Trump offered a blunt six-word response to news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are relocating to Britain. The remark, made in the Oval Office on Wednesday, immediately drew attention. This comes as the Duke and **** ss of Sussex prepare for an extended stay in the U.K. after about six years in California.
Speaking to reporters, Donald Trump confirmed he was not a fan of the couple and believed they had shown repeated disrespect toward the royal family. "No, I was not a fan," he said. The president added that he "had a very good relationship with the queen. Really good. I got to know her very well." He also praised King Charles III, calling him a "great, great guy" and noting they had known each other for a long time.

I'm happy about it."

Trump did not hold back when discussing Meghan Markle specifically. "I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the queen, to King Charles," he said. He went further, suggesting that if he were in charge of the monarchy, the couple would not have been welcomed back. "I wouldn't have taken them back. Before Deirdre Gogarty became Ireland's first female world boxing champion in 1997, she had already inspired a young Irish girl. Katie Taylor was learning the art of pugilism at a time - as Gogarty had found - opportunities for women in boxing were almost non-existent in Ireland. Taylor wrote to her hero in 1996, saying she did not "see boxing for girls taking off here in the near future", adding "maybe one day they'll even let us box in the Olympics". As it turned out, Taylor was integral in getting women's boxing into the Olympics - winning gold in 2012. She is set to retire on Saturday as one of Ireland's greatest sportspeople. As Taylor - a two-weight undisputed world champion - prepares to walk out at a sold-out Croke Park in Dublin for her farewell fight against Flora Pili on Saturday, Gogarty writes back to the 40-year-old...

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare for another chapter in the UK, a new report claimed the Duke of Sussex is holding onto hope that the British public's perception of the couple could still shift. Amid ongoing speculation, an insider offered a glimpse into how Harry feels about his wife's future plans and what it would take for them to be welcomed back with open arms.
According to a source cited by Heatworld, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's time in the UK is expected to be split between duty and family. Harry is reportedly set to continue his longstanding involvement with the Invictus Games, along with charitable causes he has supported for years. Meghan, meanwhile, is expected to travel back and forth between the UK and Montecito. At the center of everything will be the time they spend with their children.
The source also touched on Harry's feelings about Meghan's career. As per the insider, he has never stopped being one of Meghan's strongest supporters. He has also not forgotten the sacrifices she made when she left acting behind following intense media attention on the couple since they went public.
"Harry is cheering her on in a big way," the source told the outlet. "He's happy that she's going to go back to acting because he can see how much just talking about it invigorates her." However, the Duke reportedly still carries some guilt over her decision to leave "Suits" for their marriage. The insider noted, "He knows that was a big sacrifice and it's something he actually regrets going along with, so he'd love to see that put right."
On the matter of public opinion, the source claimed Harry remains hopeful. "He's also still convinced that she can win over the British people under the right circumstances. He and Meghan are both hoping there will be some public efforts from the King – they know that will go a long way," added the insider.

The artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure boom is running into a physical limit that money alone can't solve: electricity. Hyperscalers can spend hundreds of billions of dollars on servers, but those servers still need power, and new data-center capacity can take years to connect to the grid. That is changing the economics of AI computing. The scarce resource is increasingly not just chips or capital, but energized megawatts.
That creates an opening for Nvidia (NVDA), whose next-generation Vera Rubin platform is designed to squeeze more computing — and more revenue — from every watt. Let's take a closer look.

I have a chart that will knock your socks off. It's none other than the very popular iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), and I've marked in purple a very important point in the long up cycle. That's a triangle, or wedge. And if SOXX breaks down through it without an instant recovery, it could open the stock market floodgates.
For now, it is simply a marker. And it won't take long to resolve, one way or the other. That's the usual nature of this type of pattern, once it hits that most narrow section at the far right of the chart.

GameStop (GME) has more than a meme-stock reputation riding on its upcoming earnings report. The video game and collectibles retailer has been battling a shrinking core business, with sales declining in each of the past four fiscal years. At the same time, concerns about share dilution and the company's ability to drive sustainable retail growth have continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Still, GameStop's preliminary fiscal 2026 second-quarter results, released on Aug. 31, may have given investors something to watch.
The company expects quarterly net income of $290 million to $310 million, almost double the $168.6 million reported a year earlier. But there's a catch. The stronger bottom line isn't being driven by a rebound in game sales. Instead, investment gains, particularly from GameStop's stake in eBay (EBAY), are doing much of the heavy lifting, while quarterly sales are expected to decline to $780 million-$800 million from $972.2 million a year ago.

Micah Parsons had the perfect reaction to the Los Angeles Rams bringing Aaron Donald back, responding to one of the most stunning moves of the 2026 NFL season with a comparison that captured how intimidating the team's defense could become. The star pass rusher saw the addition as the latest sign that the Rams are **** embling a roster built to overwhelm opponents.
Donald's return immediately changed the conversation surrounding Los Angeles and its championship ambitions. Already equipped with an imposing collection of defensive talent, the Rams added back one of the most dominant interior defenders in NFL history and gave opposing offenses another major problem to solve.
Former Pittsburgh Panther and retired NFL defensive tackle Aaron Donald waves to the crowd while walking out onto the field during his jersey number retirement ceremony during halftime of the Pittsburgh Panthers vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish game at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA on November 15, 2025.
Parsons reacted to the news by comparing the Rams to an Avengers villain, a reference that reflected the seemingly unstoppable collection of talent now gathered in Los Angeles. His response quickly resonated because it mirrored the reaction of many around the league, where the move has been viewed as a dramatic boost to an already dangerous roster.
The admiration also carries added weight coming from Parsons, one of the NFL's premier defensive players. He understands better than most how difficult it is for offensive lines to prepare for an elite pass rusher, and Donald's ability to disrupt plays from the interior has historically created opportunities for teammates throughout a defense.

Nvidia (NVDA) reported blockbuster second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on Aug. 26, led by a solid surge in data-center revenue, which climbed by a whopping 117% year-over-year (YOY) to $89 billion. With the data-center business making up more than 90% of its top line, Nvidia has capitalized on the fact that more companies need large GPU clusters.
While the semiconductor industry leader faces "threats" that its near-monopoly on advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips may be coming to an end, Nvidia remains the primary beneficiary of the AI boom. The company is also reportedly set to buy open-source AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, aligning with CEO Jensen Huang's strategy of building the AI world on the American stack.

Dell Technologies (DELL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) report within a day of each other this week. Dell goes first on Sept. 1, followed by HPE on Sept. 2. J.P. Morgan expects both to lift guidance again, helped by strong AI server demand and steady demand for ordinary, non-AI gear. ****** ysts estimate revenue of $44.5 billion and adjusted EPS of $4.92 for Dell and revenue of $11.94 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.93 for HPE. Both stocks rose sharply after their last reports, and the market is expecting more good news again. That is why I think the headline beat matters less this time around.
Dell has already set the bar high. During its last quarterly release, it lifted the full-year revenue outlook from $140 billion to $167 billion and nearly doubled its GAAP EPS guidance to a $17.31 midpoint. Its AI backlog sits at $51 billion, with AI revenue guided to $60 billion for the year. Another raise is widely expected, and the stock is priced for it. HPE is coming off with similar momentum. In June, it posted record revenue and margins, raised its full-year outlook, and pulled its fiscal 2028 profit target forward by two full years. A lot of that comes from Juniper. HPE's networking carries far richer margins than servers do. So Dell is the bigger growth story, while HPE is quietly building the better-quality one.

Former UConn women's basketball star Gabby Williams has been tasked with leading an ultra-talented France squad that's hoping to finally knock off the United States at the FIBA Women's World Cup this month.
Williams was named captain of the Bleues Tuesday as she prepares to make her 56th appearance for France against Hungary Friday evening. She becomes the first active WNBA player to captain France at an Olympic Games or FIBA World Cup since 2014.
The Golden State Valkyries star takes over as captain from 32-year-old Valériane Ayayi, who returned to the WNBA after more than a decade this season with Phoenix. Sarah Michel, who played her entire club career overseas, captained France at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and 2024 Olympics before announcing her international retirement.
While Williams was born in Nevada, her mother, Thérèse, hails from France and the forward grew up speaking French. Excelling in both basketball and track - Williams competed in the 2012 Olympic trials - during her high school tenure, she committed to UConn over several high-profile suitors before the 2014-15 season. She used that athleticism to post one of just five triple-doubles in program history and left Storrs with two national championships and two second-team All-America selections.
Selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 draft, Williams experienced an uneven start to her professional career, playing in just 147 games over her first seven years - she was suspended for the entire 2021 season for choosing a commitment to the French national team over training camp with the Chicago Sky. She's realized her All-Star potential over the last two seasons, currently averaging a career-high 14.3 points to lead a surging 29-11 Golden State squad.
