Elon Musk's ***** eX has been talking, internally, about buying the leftover customer files of startups that already went under. Not licensing data from companies that are still operating and can say no. Buying the digital estate of companies that no longer exist to say anything at all.
The discussions are happening inside ***** eXAI, the artificial intelligence division born in February when ***** eX merged with xAI. People familiar with the talks told Bloomberg they're informal and might go nowhere. But the idea makes sense from the perspective of an AI lab racing for the frontier.
The goal is basically cheap fuel for Grok. AI models learn from training data—the text, code, and records an algorithm studies to get better at predicting what comes next—and the good stuff, real business records instead of scraped web pages, is getting expensive. A dead company's file cabinet is apparently a bargain by comparison.
Google already did the same. The search giant paid $10 million in a bankruptcy auction for the internal records of Spirit Airlines, the discount carrier that shut down for good this year. They got around 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, decades of employee files, all headed into an AI training pipeline.
That data belonged to real employees who signed up for a job, not an AI experiment. A flight attendants' union objected in bankruptcy court, arguing that scrubbing names off records—what companies call "de-identifying" data—doesn't stop someone from piecing together who said what in a decade of internal chats. The court fight is still ongoing.

Renowned fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie has died at the age of 87.
The designer, who was best known for dressing the likes of Cher and Elton John in show-stopping ensembles, died on Monday.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today," reads a statement on his social media pages. "He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
His cause of death has not been disclosed.
Known for his flamboyant, over-the-top and extravagant designs, Mackie created all the costumes for The Carol Burnett Show variety series in the '60s and '70s, and Cher's looks for her TV programmes, including The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Sonny and Cher Show.
Mackie collaborated with the music legend many times over the years and famously designed her headline-grabbing outfit at the 1986 Oscars, where she wore a towering feathered headdress and a black midriff-baring ensemble.

On a cold November morning, designer Isaac Mizrahi gets up, leaves his apartment, and trudges to the corner newsstand to pick up a copy of Women's Wear Daily. It's the day after Mizrahi's Spring/Summer 1994 show, and the ink on the reviews is still wet. Reading from the pages, he quotes, "'His usually great color sense failed him, his fabric sense failed him, and certainly, his sense of how a modern woman dresses after 8 p.m. failed him." The verdict is withering. Mizrahi, one of the great artists of '90s ready-to-wear fashion, has been tossed out. Disgraced. Lightly "cancelled," as some might call it these days.
Douglas Keeve's sublime 1995 documentary, "Unzipped," follows Mizrahi in the aftermath of a train wreck, piecing his reputation back together with his next collection, attempting to make something beautiful from the rubble. We find Mizrahi's world in grayscale, drained of color in the wake of critical and cultural failure. Then, the opening notes of Sandra Bernhard's 1994 cover of Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" cue the pigmentation, cascading over bright images of models in fittings, garments hanging from racks, and plenty of DayGlo faux furs. In her version, Bernhard alters the lyrics to pay tribute to Sylvester, whose untimely death left an immense legacy. "Sylvester, sister," Bernhard coos, "You were so beautiful, you were so fragile, you were so . . . real."
But just before Bernhard finishes the word, the song fades to silence, as if to say that realness — genuine authenticity in your life and work, at the cost of criticism — will always be snuffed out before it can be fully appreciated. That is the price of beauty. What is up must always come down.

Earlier this week, the Metropolitan Museum of Art declared it would no longer proceed with its Costume Institute's upcoming exhibition honoring John Galliano, scheduled to debut next year. When the scrapped "John Galliano: Horizons" was announced in July, the exhibition was immediately met with an outpouring of criticism. Detractors accused the museum of being tone deaf, citing a 2011 video of Galliano going on a drunken antisemitic and racist rant at a Paris bar, for which Galliano was promptly ousted from his spot as creative director at Dior. Following the video surfacing, Galliano apologized, went to rehab, and, over the last few years, experienced a brand resurgence that some would call a whitewashing.

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages had surgery just over a week ago on his hand after getting hit by a 100 mph fastball, but he is already making notable progress in his recovery.
Pages suffered a fracture in his left hand, leaving him in a good amount of pain after the fact, and despite his effort to play through it, he was pulled from the August 22nd game against the Pittsburgh Pirates early and found to have a broken hand.
This season, Pages has been an All-Star and one of the better Dodgers players in a season where not many others have really gotten going.
With his elite glove work and improved contact hitting, Pages is a key cog in the Dodgers machine, and it seems like his return is a matter of time at this point.

The long-awaited results of the NBA's investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers' alleged salary cap circumvention practices were finally released on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and the fallout is just beginning.
Among the punishments handed out, the Clippers must forfeit five first-round draft picks and pay a $30 million fine. Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers' superstar at the heart of the scandal, has been fined $700,000. Additionally, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and president of business operations Gillian Zucker have been suspended by the league for one year. Lawrence Frank, the team's president of basketball operations, has been suspended for six months.
The official investigation report from the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz explicitly lays out why the organization is facing the brunt of the penalties. Throughout the 36-page document, investigators state the three individuals most responsible for the Clippers' rule-breaking are Ballmer, Zucker and Frank, and call out the organization for obfuscating the investigation's efforts.

Following Saturday's UFC Fight Night: Hernandez vs. Rodrigues event at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., UFC CEO Dana White announced the recipients of the performance-bases bonuses.
Fight of the Night honors went to the main event. No. 7 ranked middleweight Anthony Hernandez and No. 10 ranked Gregory Rodrigues headlined the fight card and did not disappoint. Rodrigues won via unanimous decision but the match will likely be a Fight of the Year candidate. The back and forth war earned each an extra $100,000.
Banking the other two Performance of the Night awards were lightweight MarQuel Mederos and women's flyweight Carli Judice.
Mederos stopped Mason Jones in the second round via TKO due to elbows and punches. Judice scored a first-round finish over Jeisla Chaves in main card action. A front kick to the body set up fight-ending punches.
UFC Sacramento featured 13 bouts. 10 of them resulted in stoppages. The six other fighters that stopped their opponents received $25,000 finishing bonuses. 16,867 spectators were in attendance at Golden 1 Center generating $3.3 million is gate receipts.

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers All-Star center fielder Andy Pages is expected out for about a month after suffering a fracture of his left hand on Friday night courtesy of a 100-mph fastball. He was placed on the injured list on Saturday, with Alek Thomas recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill some time in center field.
Thomas starts in center field and bats eighth on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his Dodgers debut, wearing uniform number nine.
The Dodgers acquired the 26-year-old Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 12 for minor league outfielder Jose Requena. With Oklahoma City, Thomas was hitting .296/.362/.493 with a 108 wRC+, seven home runs, 17 doubles, and three doubles in 55 games.
Before he was designated for **** ignment in May, Thomas this season hit .181/.222/.340 with a 50 wRC+ in 28 games and 100 plate appearances for Arizona.
In 431 career games and 381 starts over five major league seasons, Thomas in center field has totaled 13 Outs Above Average and six Defensive Runs Saved.

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages suffered a left-hand contusion during the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, Aug 21.
He was hit by a 100.2 mph sinker thrown by Pirates right-handed pitcher Bubba Chandler in the third inning.
Pages did not initially leave the game after he was visited by manager Dave Roberts and a trainer.
The All-Star remained in the game before officially leaving in the fifth inning. He was replaced in center field by Kiké Hernandez.
