The Philadelphia Eagles knew they had something to work with when they drafted Jeremiah Trotter Jr. If nepotism alone worked out in their favor, he'd be pretty special. They also knew his path to a prominent role wouldn't necessarily be immediate. That seems prophetic now, but patience is being rewarded.
Trotter has spent training camp consistently finding his way around the football, making plays as a run defender and blitzer while showing the instincts that made him such an intriguing prospect coming out of the Clemson Tigers program. With first-round pick Jihaad Campbell alongside established starter Zack Baun, Trotter has another hurdle to clear before becoming a full-time contributor. Still, so far, he has made that decision a lot harder to stand on.
Camp has provided plenty of evidence that Trotter is ready for more responsibility. He has shown up repeatedly in run-defense periods. He has found creases as a blitzer, and he has played with the kind of downhill aggression the Eagles want from their linebackers. That production carried into Philadelphia's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. One can argue that Trotter was the best player that the Eagles put on the field.
He was especially active early, recording five tackles before halftime and delivering a delayed blitz that resulted in a sack of Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley. He didn't play the entire game, but he didn't need to. The Eagles got another valuable glimpse of what he can offer when given meaningful opportunities. What's becoming increasingly interesting is the company around him. Campbell received two early series alongside Trotter and continues to show why Philadelphia invested heavily in him.
Baun remains the veteran leader of this corps and one of the defense's most dependable players. Still, rather than allowing that depth to bury Trotter, the competition appears to be bringing out his best football. That's exactly what the Eagles should want. Trotter doesn't need to become a starter overnight to have value. A defense playing deep into the postseason needs linebackers who can step onto the field without creating a noticeable drop-off.

Everyone has a celebrity crush, but most of the world can't actually act on those feelings like Jamie Lee Curtis did in 1984. That was when she saw her husband, Christopher Guest, for the first time, coming across a photo of him in the pages of Rolling Stone. Top German rider Florian Lipowitz broke his collarbone in a crash on the 16th stage of the Tour de France and his season could now be compromised.
Last year's third-place finisher was fifth overall heading into Tuesday's time trial but a heavy crash at speed meant he had to withdraw from the race given his injury, which was confirmed by his Red Bull team.
He will miss at least six weeks, which makes the Vuelta (August 22 to September 13) impossible and the World Championships in Montreal (September 20 to 27) unlikely. The one-day races in Italy at the end of the season such as the Tour of Lombardy (October 10) are still doable.
It was a bitter-sweet day for the team given other leading rider Remco Evenepoel won the stage to trim Tadej Pogačar's overall lead to 4 minutes 32 seconds. The Tour concludes on Sunday.
Team boss Ralph Denk said: "We will not only miss Florian in the fight for the podium, we will also miss him here as a person. We won but it is not as if it is super great for us. I also feel sorry for Remco that not everything here is peace, joy and pancakes."

Resplendent in the rainbow bands, the world time trial champion completed the 26 kilometre course in a time of 32 minutes 19 seconds, beating Tadej Pogačar by 28 seconds.
He took a small bite out of the Slovenian's commanding advantage in yellow, now 4 minutes 32 seconds, but more importantly opened up a significant gap over Isaac del Toro in the fight for second.
But it was a bittersweet day for Evenepoel's Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe team as Florian Lipowitz, third overall last year and fifth in this Tour at the start of the day, crashed 6 kilometres from the finish and abandoned with an apparent broken collarbone.
When Evenepoel won Sunday's stage 15 atop Plateau de Solaison, it was his first career Tour road stage win, but this was his third time trial success in the world's biggest race. What was a 58-second advantage over Del Toro is now 2 minutes and 19 seconds.

"The two lads spoke about it. It is no big deal. The issue was made bigger than it was," team chief Ralph Denk said in a team podcast ahead of Friday's stage to Bordeaux.
Lipowitz told broadcasters ARD and Eurosport: "We talked in the bus yesterday. I think everything is settled. In the end it was a super tough day and we can be satisfied with the performance. The atmosphere is good."
Evenepoel struck a conciliatory tone as well on Friday, saying: "Everyone has their own strengths, and you want to make the most of them. Everything has been said. The past is the past. We must now look ahead."

Gracie Abrams has addressed the "nepo baby" conversation surrounding her rise to pop stardom, candidly admitting that the financial security provided by her famous parents gave her the freedom to pursue music.
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter is the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions co-CEO Katie McGrath. While Gracie has built a fast-growing career of her own – earning Grammy nominations, opening for Olivia Rodrigo and joining Taylor Swift on the record-breaking Eras Tour – she has never shied away from recognising the advantages she grew up with.
"The nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse appropriately," Gracie said during an appearance on The New York Times' Popcast. "I think about the privilege there, and it's like, I had a safety net, and that allowed me the ability to experiment and to concentrate, and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved."
She added: "I wasn't growing up afraid financially, and that's the biggest deal."
Her father is one of Hollywood's most successful writer-directors and producers, having created or co-created series including Alias, Lost, Fringe and Person of Interest. He has also directed blockbuster films including Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

It's been a little over two years since Binah Capital Group went public via the merger of Kingswood Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition company, and Wentworth Management Services, a broker/dealer aggregator.
Since then, CEO Craig Gould has kept his head down, working on his strategy for leading the firm going forward as well as the firm's growth and development goals. Now, a lot of those goals are coming to fruition. The firm now has $30 billion of ****** ets under management across its subsidiaries, including broker/dealers Cabot Lodge Securities, World Equity Group, and PKS Investments. The RIA firms affiliated with Binah manage over $400 billion in AUM.
Gould said that going public has allowed the firm to scale in ways it couldn't before, and it has since added some of the largest RIAs in the industry, including Merit Financial Advisors and OnePoint BFG Wealth Partners.

Red Bull-Bora–Hansgrohe team boss Ralph Denk does not see any potential for conflict after naming German cycling star Florian Lipowitz and Belgian Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel as joint team leaders for July's Tour de France.
"I am convinced that this will work very well," Denk told a media round on Tuesday ahead of the Tour, which starts on July 4 in Barcelona, adding: "Remco is still the front man and Florian is a bit of the wingman."
However, Denk said this was more because Evenepoel, as the reigning time trial world champion and double Olympic champion from Paris 2024, was more in the media spotlight.
Both riders are equal as far as the race is concerned.
"In the end, the day will come when one or the other feels better. Then the two of them have to sort it out between themselves on the road," the team chief added.
"I am convinced that this will work very well," Denk told a media round on Tuesday ahead of the Tour, which starts on July 4 in Barcelona, adding: "Remco is still the front man and Florian is a bit of the wingman."

The New York Knicks aren’t just NBA champions, they’re a lesson in perseverance. Proof positive why you should never quit on your team, no matter how dark it gets, no matter how bleak the future seems, no matter how much an owner tries to push you away. James Dolan’s name might be on the papers, but Saturday night proved that the Knicks don’t belong to him — they belong to New York.
It’s impossible not to love the scenes from New York following the Knicks’ breaking their 53-year championship drought. Did the celebration go too far? Sure. Did it turn the streets into anarchy? Absolutely. Did it closely resemble the Joker’s clown parade in Batman Returns? It sure did. It was also magical, inspiring, and reminded us how powerful sports can be, even as we become jaded in the face of ticket scalpers, political movements, and greedy owners who put their own motivations ahead of a city. When the dust settles, it’s about simply this: A small group of individuals who came together as a team, to bring joy to millions who have invested their heart and souls into loving a team their entire lives. People who said “this could be our year” more times than they could count, and when it comes to the NBA there is not a single more passionate, longer-suffering fanbase than the New York Knicks.
No doubt there would have been joy in San Antonio too, but it would have hit different. All due respect to Spurs fans, but even y’all have to admit that your franchise has had a horseshoe lodged up your derriere for the better part of 30 years. From drafting Tim Duncan during David Robinson’s ONE injury year to winning the Wemby sweepstakes, it just wouldn’t have been satisfying to see another Spurs win. Moreover, San Antonio is a competent, sensible organization run like a successful business — it’s not the Knicks, where fans have had to endure James Dolan’s whims at every turn, doing his level best to destroy the organization from within while playing a piano solo in his nepo band.
Dolan and the Knicks have given fans HUNDREDS of reasons to pack it in over the years. I don’t know how Spike Lee managed to endure the pain for as long as he did — but not just the pain, the promise. The possibility that Patrick Ewing, and John Starks would win a **** le, then if Stephon Marbury and Allan Houston could get the job done, then Carmelo, Amare, and J.R. Smith. Fans continually experience the yo-yo whiplash of made that make them believe, before seeing opportunity get yanked away, like a cat toy from a desperate tabby. They’ve seen brilliant teams under the guidance of Jeff Van Gundy, Mike D’Antoni, and Tom Thibodeau all establish specific eras of Knicks disappointment, which makes it all the more magical right now.
This Knicks team was so decidedly un-Knicks. Jalen Brunson is obviously a superstar, but this team was defined by doubt, not promise. **** ody believed Karl-Anthony Towns was good enough to be a focal point, Mickal Bridges was an overpaid addition; heck, Mike Brown wa

Alexa Demie is comfortable with her "level" of fame, although that may change following the finale of the hit HBO show Euphoria.
In a profile in The Hollywood Reporter, Demie, who plays Maddy Perez on Euphoria, confirms she's seen all of the opinions on her relatively lowkey stardom as sent to her by friends, and she's content with where she is.
"It's like, did you ever think that I don't want it?" she said of her status in Hollywood. "People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn't change it."
Demie also expressed gratitude for her breakout role as Perez, propelling her into a spotlight that is at odds with her more private self. "If I didn't have that experience, I'd be hiding up there like Enya," she explained, gesturing to the Hollywood hills, similar to how singer Enya famously lives in a large, secluded mansion. "But that life is always there for me, and what I'm learning is that I can have both."
In other news, Demie also confirmed she's not retiring from acting.
