For years, the conventional wisdom was that once you enter the six-figure club, your net worth explodes. This theory was first suggested by the late Charlie Munger, a billionaire and longtime friend and business partner of Warren Buffett.
"The hard part of the process for most people is the first $100,000," he said during Berkshire Hathaway's 1999 shareholders meeting (1). "You have a standing start at $0, getting to $100,000 is a long struggle."

The biggest market gains don't always go to the investors who buy first. Sometimes they go to the ones who have enough cash left when everyone else is rushing for the exits.
Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban made that case last week on the "Diary of a CEO" podcast, urging investors to be patient as AI-related stocks surge. His advice is to resist the urge to chase every rally, keep some cash available and wait for the market to turn. That's when he believes the real opportunity appears.
"When that happens, that's when the real magic happens and where the real money is made," Cuban said. "The delayed gratification."
Cuban's approach reflects a lesson he ***** ociates with late Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK) (NYSE:BRK) Vice Chair Charlie Munger. In a conversation about long-term thinking and the temptation of get-rich-quick schemes, he pointed to Munger's belief that meaningful rewards require patience and effort.
"Even Charlie Munger used to say it all the time, right? There's no delayed gratification anymore. Never," Cuban said. "And if you don't realize you have to do the work first, you're not going to get the gratification."

Charlie Munger spent half a century lecturing investors on the psychology of their own mistakes. A month before he died, he admitted to one of the most common mistakes. Asked on the Acquired podcast how his investment in Hyundai had worked out, Munger said: "I lost money. Not much because I was stubborn. I held out until it got back to almost where I paid for it and then I sold it."
That sentence describes, almost word for word, the behavior behavioral economists call the disposition effect: the tendency to sell winners too early and hold losers too long, waiting for a stock to return to what you paid before letting it go. Hersh Shefrin and Meir Statman named it in 1985, and Terrance Odean documented it across thousands of retail brokerage accounts in a 1998 Journal of Finance paper. It is the mistake Munger's famous 1995 talk on the psychology of human misjudgment was written to help people avoid. Here he was, at 99, saying he had made it with his own money.

In 2023, a shareholder stood up at a Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) annual meeting in Omaha and asked about the future of value investing. Charlie Munger took it: "I think value investors are going to have a harder time now that there are so many of them competing for a diminished bunch of opportunities," he said. "So, my advice to value investors is to get used to making less."
Warren Buffett, sitting next to him, did not let it stand. "And Charlie has been telling me the same thing the whole time we've known each other," he said in the same session. The two men met in 1959.

Every 3% or 5% single-day pop in technology stocks and high-beta market darlings is being hailed by retail momentum chasers as the definitive return of the bull market. I'm a natural skeptic, hardened by decades of seeing markets cycle up and down. And I just don't see the bull market returning in force for a while… and maybe a long, long while.
To be clear, it doesn't prompt me to "exit the market," no more than it would prompt me to "pile into stocks" when the coast looks clearer. To me, investing in the stock market is never about "do I" or "don't I." It is always about "how much do I allocate?"

Nvidia (NVDA) has been powering the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) boom. Its graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), networking products, and increasingly integrated AI systems continue to benefit from enormous investments in data center infrastructure. As a result, NVDA has continued to deliver impressive financial results.
Notably, concerns about a potential slowdown in AI development have weighed on semiconductor stocks, raising fears that the enormous spending on AI infrastructure could eventually moderate. However, demand for Nvidia's products is unlikely to slow, and the company could continue delivering extraordinary growth.

Corning Incorporated (GLW), the 175-year-old materials science giant based in Corning, New York, has become one of the more surprising beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout. Best known for its glass, ceramics, and optical technology innovations, Corning now plays a critical behind-the-scenes role as the dominant supplier of optical fiber powering hyperscale data centers and AI networks. The company has locked in major long-term supply agreements with tech heavyweights including Apple (AAPL), Meta (META), Nvidia (NVDA), Amazon (AMZN), and Verizon (VZ).
Corning stock has swung wildly of late, recently trading near $144 after plunging more than 13% in a single session following news of a $2 billion at-the-market equity offering arranged with Goldman Sachs, a move that reignited investor concerns over shareholder dilution. Shares now sit roughly in the middle of a wide 52-week range spanning $75.77 to $271.78, capturing a dramatic round trip. Corning suffered its worst monthly drop in 24 years this past July, only to rebound 8% in early September after unveiling a multibillion-dollar, 80-million-mile fiber supply deal with Verizon.

Tesla (TSLA) has had a rough 2026. The stock is down about 20% year-to-date (YTD), falling from $458.34 on the first trading day of the year to $297.38 in late July. That is a decline of more than 27% from peak to trough.
Its much-publicized Cybercab launch also disappointed investors. Tesla launched the robotaxi service in Austin on Sept. 3 with only 45 vehicles registered in Texas. The stock then dropped nearly 6% the next day, wiping out its 5.4% pre-launch gain, after federal safety regulators opened an audit into about 1,000 steering-wheel-free vehicles. Tesla's Model Y-based driverless ride service is still limited to seven U.S. metro areas.

The Baldwin Insurance Group (BWIN) is suddenly in the spotlight after Michael Dell's family office and Sequence Holdings agreed to take the insurance broker private in a deal valued at about $7.7 billion. The offer calls for $32.50 in cash for each share. That represents an 88% premium to Baldwin's unaffected June 17 closing price. Shares jumped 7.5% to $31.89 after the deal was announced on Sept. 14.
For investors, the story is now less about what Baldwin might be worth as a standalone public company and more about whether the proposed transaction closes as planned. The deal also gives Baldwin access to long-duration capital outside the public markets. That could help the company keep investing in acquisitions, technology, and artificial intelligence without the same pressure to deliver results every quarter.

The U.S. has between 3,000 and 4,700 active data centers, with plans to build another 1,500. Globally, there are about 11,800, with plans to add about 100 gigawatts of new capacity by 2030. All of which creates substantial opportunity for beaten-down stocks such as ASML Holding (ASML). However, to run all of those data centers, the world needs advanced AI chips. Today's most advanced data-center AI processors, manufactured on 4nm, 5nm, and certain 7nm processes, depend heavily on ASML's lithography technology. And as the industry moves toward 2nm production, that dependence on ASML's EUV systems will become even more important.
Some of those companies include Samsung Electronics (SMSN.L.IX), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM), and Intel (INTC). All of which are moving forward with ASML's High-Numerical Aperture extreme ultraviolet lithography systems, better known as High-NA EUV. In short, AI must have powerful chips to run. And those chips are becoming much harder to manufacture, with ASML producing the machines that make their production possible.

Stock indexes are mostly higher today. The broader market is moving higher today as a decline in crude oil prices lowers bond yields and improves market sentiment. Crude prices fell after weekly data from API late Tuesday showed US crude inventories jumped by +7.1 million bbl last week and inventories of gasoline and distillates also expanded. Over the past few months, **** eX (SPCX) has hogged so much of the limelight that Elon Musk's "other" company, Tesla (TSLA), has slipped completely under the radar. Yet, the EV leader is looking to go back to the past to grow in the future.
An event scheduled for Oct. 1 is expected to provide a major glimpse into the second-generation Roadster—a car that the company sold between 2008 and 2012 and was the one that put it on the automobile map of the world. Described as the company's first production vehicle and built with a Lotus Elise Chassis, the Roadster offered things that no other electric vehicle did at that time. 0-60 mph in 39 seconds, had a top speed of 120 mph, and an initial range of 200+ miles, which eventually rose to 245.
