Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Trevor Megill poked his head out of the ceiling of his bus and screamed at the hundreds of people in front of him.
If Megill did that last time the Brewers landed at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, one day after the Brewers swept the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, it would have been a waste of energy. Only two fans even tried to greet them.
Not on Oct. 29.
Two weeks later, less than 24 hours after the Brewers won the World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays, a swarm of fans lined up outside the airport's private terminal to coronate their champions' return.
And Megill cheered right back.

The Milwaukee Brewers are set to face the Mets in New York this week, as the Crew looks to continue their winning ways. The Brewers, at 81-50 this season, sit firmly atop the NL Central after winning each of their last three series against the Dodgers, Mariners, and Braves. The Mets, at 59-72, sit at the bottom of the NL East with the sixth-worst record in baseball. They've actually been a bit better the last couple of weeks, with a 6-3 record against the Nationals, Padres, and White Sox.
Milwaukee's lone position player on the IL is outfielder Sal Frelick, who is expected to return for this road trip. However, the team suffered a pair of injuries in Sunday's Little League Classic, as outfielder Garrett Mitchell exited after being hit by a pitch with what was categorized as a right forearm contusion, and first baseman Jake Bauers, who has been playing with a toe fracture this season, fouled a ball off his leg/foot, though he remained in the game. It's unclear if either player will miss more time, but overall, not the worst news on that front. On the mound, the Brewers are without Brandon Woodruff (potentially back before the end of the year after not needing surgery), JoJo Romero (late August), Abner Uribe (could be activated on Wednesday), Rob Zastryzny (TBD), Joel Kuhnel (late August), Brian Fitzpatrick (out for season), Quinn Priester (out for season), and Angel Zerpa (out for season).
The Mets are without first baseman Mark Vientos (on rehab ******* ignment), outfielder Juan Soto (September), and infielder Jorge Polanco (out for season). Old friend Devin Williams is on the injured list with a shoulder strain that will keep him out until at least September. Fellow pitchers Cionel Pérez (September), Justin Hagenman (TBD), Tylor Megill (out for season), and Reed Garrett (out for season) are also out.
Jake Bauers leads the Brewer offense with 23 homers, 19 doubles, and 75 RBIs this season, as he's slashing .273/.382/.503 in the best season of his career. Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, Joey Ortiz, and Andrew Vaughn are among the other key contributors in recent weeks, while veteran Christian Yelich continues to suffer from the bad-luck bug. Gary Sánchez, Garrett Mitchell, David Hamilton, Cooper Pratt, and Luis Lara are also in the regular mix, with Jonathan Ornelas serving as some infield depth. As a team, the Brewers are hitting .254/.337/.396 (.733 OPS ranks seventh), with 120 homers (last), 650 runs scored (fifth), and 129 steals (third).
With Soto out, Carson Benge, Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Francisco Lindor, and Francisco Alvarez lead New York's offense. Benge has 16 homers, 17 doubles, 53 RBIs, and 19 steals in what has been a solid season overall, while Bichette, Semien, and Lindor are all have down years by their standards. Jared Young, A.J. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn homered, Logan Henderson allowed two runs in six innings to win his sixth consecutive decision, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Henderson (6-1), whose only loss was in early May, allowed four hits, including two solo homers, struck out eight and walked one.
Antonio Senzatela, acquired from the Rockies on Monday, tossed a scoreless seventh with the aid of a double play. Abner Uribe stranded runners on the corners in the eighth and Trevor Megill closed with a perfect ninth for his 19th save in 21 opportunities.
The NL Central-leading Brewers, who earned their major league-high 70th victory, won for just the second time in eight games this season against Pittsburgh.
The Brewers scored two runs in the fourth off Jared Jones (2-3) to go in front 3-1. Vaughn opened the inning with his fifth homer. Cooper Pratt singled with one out and David Hamilton beat out a bunt single. Chourio's single scored Pratt.

The Los Angeles Dodgers landed the top prize of the MLB trade deadline on Saturday night, acquiring Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers.
Most baseball fans and media likely aren't surprised that the Dodgers were the team to get Skubal. They have a way of getting the top players available, whether in trade or free agency. And MLB players feel the same way.
Milwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Megill voiced those sentiments when asked about Skubal going to the Dodgers after the trade was reported. The development is a one-two punch to the Brewers, who will likely compete with the Dodgers for the National League pennant and hoped they would be the team to add Skubal for their playoff drive.
"I don't think anybody's surprised he went there," Megill told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak with a laugh. "When they came out the other day and said they were gonna be greedy, I think the whole world could take that serious, that they'd probably make that happen."
"Our job is just to play baseball with the team they give us and the guys in this room," he added. "We see [Brewers general manager] Matt [Arnold] in here a lot the last couple of days — sure he's pretty busy — but we're just being patient, seeing what happens. If not, let's just go with what we've got."

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Brice Turang had a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers finished off a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.
The Brewers won for the fifth time in their past seven games and moved past the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the major leagues at 69-41.
Jake Bauers hit a home run and left-hander Robert Gasser gave up one run over five innings, while right-hander Chad Patrick (6-4) went two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his 18th save.
Jorge Soler drove in a run for the Angels, who pulled right-handed starter Jose Soriano from his outing as a precaution in advance of Monday's trade deadline. Los Angeles has lost five consecutive games and eight of its past nine.
The Angels used four pitchers in a bullpen game, with three going at least two innings. Right-hander Brett Kerry gave up one run over four innings after he was recalled earlier Saturday. Left-hander Samy Natera Jr. (1-1) gave up Turang's single in the eighth.

PHOENIX (AP) — Jake Bauers homered off Arizona All-Star Eduardo Rodríguez in the seventh inning and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Diamondbacks 3-2 on Sunday.
Bauers hit his team-leading 16th homer to right to chase Rodríguez (7-3). The lefty took a 1-0 lead into the seventh, but Andrew Vaughn led off with a single and Bauer’s blast came on Rodríguez’s 100th and final pitch of the game.
Rodríguez, named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his 12-year career on Saturday, gave up six hits, walked none and struck out three. His ERA rose slightly to 2.25.
Joey Ortiz’s single drove in a run later in the seventh against Kevin Ginkel to make it 3-1, and the Diamondbacks got that run back in their half when Gabriel Moreno beat the relay on a bases-loaded force play.
Drew Rom (1-0), called up earlier Sunday to replace injured Brandon Woodruff, got one out in the sixth. Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

The Milwaukee Brewers' prominent battery, Jacob Misiorowski and William Contreras, has been named to the National League All-Star Team.
Misiorowski famously made last year's All-Star Game (as a way-down-the-line injury replacement, it should be said) having made just five major-league appearances. If there were questions over whether he'd earned that last year, there obviously are not this year. Miz leads the majors in ERA (1.47), strikeouts (156), FIP (1.97), WHIP (0.779), and hits per nine (4.7). He is one of the top contenders for National League Cy Young, and his selection was a no-brainer.
Contreras has been selected to his third All-Star Game. He previously made it with the Braves in 2022 and the Brewers in 2024. Contreras got off to a bit of a slow start offensively but he's hitting for a high average, and has added some pop lately. He's also one of a trio of Brewers with over 50 RBI; he and Brice Turang have 51 each, just behind team leader Jake Bauers (52).
At least before the usual cavalcade of injury replacements come down the line, the Brewers have just two All-Stars despite holding the second-best record in baseball. The other two teams atop the National League, the Braves and Dodgers, both have five All-Star selections, as do the hometown Phillies (who are six games back of the Brewers); other teams in the NL who have two include the Nationals, Giants, Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks.
Players we can count as snubs include second baseman Brice Turang, first baseman Jake Bauers, starting pitcher Kyle Harrison, and reliever Trevor Megill. The fan voting played at least some role, here; the inclusion of Ozzie Albies as the NL's starting second baseman created a numbers crunch that hurt Turang, who had a far more deserving case than Albies did. He's probably the most egregious omission, but a case could've been made for any of these other guys, and maybe even for Jackson Chourio, even though he missed six weeks.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Garrett Mitchell tripled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to cap a four-hit night to help the NL Central Division-leading Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Wednesday night.
The Brewers (53-31) moved a season-high 22 games over .500 with their sixth straight victory over the Reds this season.
Aaron Ashby (12-1) won his major league-leading 12th game with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He took over for starter Shane Drohan with two outs in the sixth. Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his 12th save.
In the seventh, Reds center fielder Matt McLain, who was playing that position for the second time in his career after 77 games in the middle infield, dove and missed Andrew Vaughn’s sinking liner. Mitchell followed with his triple giving him a career-high fourth hit in a game. He then scored on a wild pitch by Brock Burke (3-4).
Drohan allowed two runs on six hits and matched his season high with seven strikeouts.

The Brewers have only scored four runs in the first two games of their three-game series in Cincinnati, yet they’ve managed to win both games: a 2-1 extra-innings victory on Monday and a 2-0 shutout on Tuesday. Brandon Woodruff and Brandon Sproat both turned in outstanding, nearly identical pitching performances against a struggling Reds offense; Shane Drohan’s name isn’t Brandon, but Drohan I guess sounds a little bit like Brandon, so we’ll see if he can keep the good vibes going.
Drohan is expected to be returned to relief duty, or at least swingman duty, after tonight’s start. He’s been an important part of the Brewers’ success this season, and has thrown important innings both out of the bullpen (where he has been excellent) and out of the rotation. Overall, Drohan is 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA and 3.17 FIP in five starts and ten relief appearances that have covered 47 2/3 innings. This will be Drohan’s fifth straight appearance as a starter.
The Reds will send the young right-hander Rhett Lowder to the mound. Lowder debuted in 2024 but is still just 24 years old, and he’ll be making his 12th appearance (all starts) of the season. Injuries kept him out of the 2025 season, but he was outstanding in six starts to finish 2024. This season hasn’t gone quite as well: in 52 1/3 innings, Lowder has a 4.82 ERA and 4.46 FIP. His struggles are apparent in his strikeout and walk numbers: he’s struck out just 42 batters this season (7.2 per nine) which has been exacerbated by sky-high walks numbers (4.8 per nine innings).
A roster note today: Abner Uribe, who has been “appealing” his suspension since the end of May, dropped that appeal today. Strategically timed, as Uribe pitched in each of the first two games of the series and surely would’ve been out tonight no matter what. It will be interesting to see what the Brewers do if this is another close game: with Uribe unavailable and both Aaron Ashby and Trevor Megill having pitched in each of the first two games of the series, things might get interesting.
The Brewers, then, will just go for a blowout to clinch the sweep. It’s a lefty-heavy lineup with Lowder on the mound, as the only right-handed bats in the lineup are Jackson Chourio, William Contreras, and Cooper Pratt. Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick join Chourio in the outfield, while David Hamilton plays third, Jake Bauers is at first, and Brice Turang plays second.
