INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever wing Sophie Cunningham has thoughts on what a new WNBA commissioner should bring to the table. And she's already had conversations with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who is leading the search for the new WNBA commissioner, about it.
Silver reached out to Cunningham, she said on Monday, as her agents are close with him.
"I have talked to Adam Silver a couple times, and I think he's a great guy who's very knowledgeable and full of wisdom," Cunningham said. "Just getting to talk to him and hear his perspective of his approach to the NBA is huge. Who he's kind of looking for, I think if you want to know the real answers, go to him, but I think he's going to put someone in place who really wants to take our league to another level than it's already at. Our league is booming, so why would we not want someone who is going to try to make it even more booming?"
Cathy Engelbert, who has been the WNBA's commissioner since 2019, announced on Sept. 4 that she would retire at the end of the year. Engelbert ushered in a lot of growth to the league, including six new teams across the U.S. and Canada, but garnered a lot of criticism for her lack of relationship with players.

The Wisconsin Badgers comfortably beat the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Saturday, but the score didn't capture the full picture, as it was an up-and-down game for the home team at Camp Randall Stadium.
There were a lot of questions about the defense for Wisconsin, as they struggled to contain the run at times against a team that lost 41-10 to Illinois State the week before.
Here are the snap counts and PFF grades for every player on defense for the Badgers against Western Illinois.
Hammond Russell IV – Snap Count: [23], Grade: 64.1

Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz blasts KU's Civil War-themed hype video after Border War win: 'We left Kansas bleeding again' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Few hype videos in recent college football history proved as eye-catching as Kansas' latest, released days before the Jayhawks took on rival Missouri in "The Border War."
The video referenced the region's precarious history, likening the actions of Missouri-based pro-slavery forces to villains compared to Kansas-born abolitionists like John Brown.
The Tigers answered the call on the field, downing the Jayhawks 38-21 on Friday night. Shortly after the game went final, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz had his say about the polarizing video, which garnered millions of views ahead of the tilt.

NEW YORK – Ready or not, here she comes.
Just when you think you know Tory Burch's next move, she subverts expectations and continues her reign as one of the most interesting American designers today.
The designer brought out a cadre of stars for her New York Fashion Week show Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Sunken Garden by Isamu Noguchi in downtown Manhattan. Though far from an underground designer, Burch took her show to subterranean levels before she reached new heights with her collection and her front row, which included a fashionably timely Lauryn Hill, flanked by daughter Sara Marley and niece Kymora Marley, as well as actress Amanda Seyfried, "Saturday Night Live" alum Chloe Fineman and fashion power broker Anna Wintour.
Alex Eala, the young newcomer who dominated at the US Open until her defeat by best friend and fellow young star Iva Jovic, also joined along with emerging talent Ravyn Lenae and established celebrities like Padma Lakshmi and director Janicza Bravo.
Hill, in oversized sunglasses and an olive-green cinched top and tiered skirt with a silk scarf draped delicately over her head, garnered camera flashes from every angle. Perched atop her lap (and on the arms of everyone in the front row) was Burch's newly released Bunny Knot bag, with Hill's in a ****** er yellow color with the dark knot detailing looking like polka dots.

Today, we remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were forever changed. Never forget.
The Blues continue their training ahead of a road test against Spurs tomorrow. [EFC]
"We've made a decent start and we want to keep that feeling going. We've made some really good signings in midfield, which gives us good, healthy competition. In the short-term I'm just looking to get fully fit. It feels horrible not being up to my 100 per cent. I'm working every day to get there, because I want to show the consistency levels again where I was last season. If I do that, I'll be happy and I know that will put me in good stead to help the team – and also for things like England," says James Garner. [EFC]

Jennifer Garner fully understood the timeless appeal of a LBD when she graced the stage of Late Night with Conan O'Brien during the height of the Noughties.
The Elektra actress took to her Instagram Story on Tuesday to share a throwback video of her appearance on the hit talk show from 2003. Jennifer oozed elegance as she donned a black mini-dress that featured a plunging neckline adorned with a halterneck spaghetti-strap design. The simple garment was crafted from glossy silk and teamed with a pair of matching heels.
Jennifer's toasted almond locks were swept back into a braid while her makeup exuded soft glam with a brown smokey eye, a pinch of blush, and a glossy natural lip. The star opted for '90s minimalism as she refrained from wearing any jewelry.
While on the show, Jennifer playfully corrected the talk show host's grammar with a witty comeback. The duo discussed Jennifer's spy television series Alias and the sneaky skills she learnt from being on set.

Social Security is the retirement income lifeline for millions of Americans and garners its share of confusing headlines. From the full retirement age and cost-of-living adjustment to the rules for claiming benefits while still working, here is what's expected to change in 2027.
A common concern among those planning for retirement is an ever-increasing Social Security "full retirement age."
Geoffrey Schmidt, a certified public accountant and founder of Holy Schmidt!, a retirement education resource, told Yahoo Finance that many seniors ******* ume the full retirement age keeps climbing.
"It doesn't. It has finished its long, slow climb to 67. Anyone born in 1960 or later has a full retirement age of exactly 67, and that group reaches it in 2027," Schmidt said. "Under current law, it does not go any higher. So if you've been worried they'll keep moving the goalposts on you, at least on the retirement age, that increase is over."

A source claims that Prince William and Kate Middleton are in no rush to react to the Sussexes' return to the UK. According to the insider, the couple is watching the developments from the sidelines and sees no need to communicate anything publicly. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the UK on August 26 and are currently staying in private accommodation outside London.
A source told PEOPLE that Prince William and Kate Middleton are avoiding any "knee-jerk" reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the UK. "They are watching this ***** e. It's private — they don't feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly," they said.
The insider also claimed that the Waleses are in no rush to restore their relationship with the Sussexes. They added that their reconciliation "will be a slow build. There is a deep sense of betrayal."
Earlier, Royal expert Richard Palmer stated that the Waleses may need to coordinate with the Sussexes to avoid any diary clashes. In i-Paper, he explained that though Markle and Harry will continue to be private individuals, they will eventually garner significant media interest. This could also potentially overshadow the working royals.
"While visiting a charity in Los Angeles may go largely unnoticed, there will be far more media attention when they carry out visits in the UK, especially if one of the working Royal Family is doing something similar and possibly trying to communicate a different message, sources said," he explained.

Donovan Mitchell admits that Brooklyn Nets fans are lucky to have Mikel Brown Jr. originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The past few years have not been kind to the Brooklyn Nets as they went from being possible contenders to being a bit of a mediocre team. However, they are intent on building toward the future, and they might have found a franchise-level player in the 2026 NBA Draft.
That player is Mikel Brown Jr., who has garnered a lot of attention dating back to his college days. Now, he is set to have a big role in the Nets' future, and it seems there are a lot of people who are calling him a potential star moving forward.
The 2026 NBA Draft had a lot of top-level talent, which bodes well for the teams who drafted higher. As the sixth overall pick, Brown has a bright future because he is being set up for success with his position on the Nets' roster. With his ability to score and be a playmaker, he is in a good spot.
Of course, the Nets are not the best team just yet because they have plenty of young players. At the same time, they are still looking for a long-term vision that they want to follow. Brown could help with that, as he is a good example of a modern-day guard.

Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber cuddled up in the PDA-filled debut issue of WYouth, a print publication aimed at the next generation of teens, and shared the films, songs and novels that they return to.
The images, taken by the Biebers on a Contax point-and-shoot camera, feature the couple mid-makeout, a shirtless Justin Bieber sleeping under the sheets and a close-up of the two canoodling in bed.
The Rhode beauty founder revealed Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as her go-to karaoke song, with Justin Bieber name-dropping "With You" by Chris Brown. Fans will remember the "Baby" singer's rendition of the R&B song from a 2008 YouTube video, which has garnered more than 65 million views.
The couple also detailed their favorite films and books. The "Everything Hallelujah" singer picked "The Grinch" and the Bible, whereas Hailey Bieber named the Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn-led rom-com "The Break-Up" and the children's book series "Angelina Ballerina," which she loved growing up, as her favorites.
Hailey and Justin Bieber also described their favorite ways to relax (the spa), favorite cities (a split between New York and Los Angeles) and favorite holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas). They both agreed that picking an all-time favorite artist was simply "too hard."

TAIPEI, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Taiwan flexed its chip diplomacy muscles at a major trade show last week, portraying itself as a democratic and reliable supplier for the AI revolution, while signalling ‌a willingness to share the benefits of its semiconductor prowess with like-minded partners.
Home to companies like TSMC whose ‌chips power AI applications, diplomatically isolated Taiwan has long sought to leverage its tech prowess to garner international support, something Beijing routinely seeks to block saying the island is merely one of its provinces.
But Taiwan also faces pressure from the United States, its most important international backer and arms supplier, to shift more chip manufacturing there. That comes as TSMC is investing $265 billion in factories in the state of Arizona.
President Lai Ching-te, who, unusually, spoke at two separate events on the same day at the SEMICON Taiwan trade show, said Taiwanese companies were ‌expanding globally to "let resilience create shared prosperity", and that the island's chip strength was based on democracy and rule of law.

Delonte West is recognized as one of the NBA's most tragic stories, having fallen on hard times after his career was cut short in 2012. However, during his playing days, the guard was prolific enough to garner attention from one of the league's best.
West famously represented teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Boston Celtics during his seven-year NBA career. Still, his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James' teammate is discussed more often.
Delonte West's tenure in Cleveland began after being traded to the Cavaliers by the Seattle SuperSonics during the 2007-08 season. While speaking about joining the Cavs on a Kick livestream, West revealed that LeBron James recruited him during a game between Cleveland and Seattle. He shared:
"I was in Seattle, you know, half the year; at the end of the year, they went to Oklahoma. We were playing Cleveland out in Seattle like, you know, the first month of the season, and I was cooking. Then, I remember we were sitting at the foul line, and James, he was like, 'Man, you know I've been, you know, I followed you in college.' You know what I'm saying? He's like, 'You remember that time I came to Philly at the Palestra to watch you play?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I remember.'"
"He was like, 'Man, you want to come play with Cleveland?' I thought he was just doing a veteran trick," West continued. "I thought he was just trying to get me out of my game by, you know, getting familiarity, but he was serious."

A little bit of personal story-time to start this week's Sinners & Saints. Yesterday was the first Roma match that my girlfriend watched all the way through in a serious way. She's a fan of football in general, but follows the NWSL most closely. Thanks to my work with Chiesa di Totti, she knows what's going on in a general way with Roma most of the time, and we've both been thinking for a while that it would be great for us to watch Roma together this season. Her main experience with seeing me follow Roma has been witnessing my frustration: she knows Roma is generally a club with talented players that fail to meet expectations, a club always just on the outside looking in.
Because of some scheduling issues for the first two matches, yesterday was her first time watching a match this season in full (whereas previous seasons, she didn't want to watch because it was "kind of depressing." Fair enough.). 45 minutes in, she was impressed albeit deeply frustrated with Roma's inability to get the ball past Marco Carnesecchi. 85 minutes in, I thought I was introducing her to the apotheosis of what happens when Roma Happens; when no amount of combined talent, no amount of good form, no amount of opportunities on goal seems to be capable of defeating the destiny of Roma to be just one tier below the best of Italian and European football, for eternity.
Then, of course, came the six minutes where Roma turned a 0-1 loss into a 2-1 win. I was on the edge of my seat (literally, my Uber nearly got into an accident) when Matías Soulé scored his stoppage time goal to preserve Roma's perfect record and keep the hopes of something greater for this season alive. I'm still feeling shocked and thrilled that the Giallorossi pulled this one off, and what a game to use to truly introduce my girlfriend to Roma. Roma did concede, and Roma did look as if they were going to lose this one for most of the second half; given that, I had to anoint at least one player a sinner. But make no mistake: this match felt more exciting to me than either of the multi-goal clean sheets that started the season, and in my book is a far better signal for just how high this Roma can go than either the win against Lecce or Fiorentina.
One quick aside before diving into the sinners and saints: my love for Mile Svilar knows no bounds, but if yesterday's match taught me just about anything regarding a non-Roma player, it's that I want Marco Carnesecchi to be Italy's goalkeeper moving forward. What an incredible performance; this one could have and should have been a 5-1 rout, if not for his 9 saves.
He got the game-winner in stoppage time, so he has to be the first saint on the list. MatìGol (can we start calling him that?) put in an excellent shift as a substitute, garnering himself an 8.7 rating from SofaScore after coming on for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute and practically willing the Giallorossi to the win. The Argentine attacker had seven total shots, three of which were on target; while

It may still be just the start of the new season, but some clear lineup preferences have already emerged — presumably not just for the WAGNH Community but for Xabi Alonso as well. Namely, we know that our best front-three at the moment are Cole Palmer, João Pedro, and Morgan Rogers. And we know that we have to have Maxence Lacroix alongside Levi Colwill in defense. And we know that we want Reece James on the pitch in some way, shape, or form.
So the major decisions in the lineup choices currently revolve around midfield, wing-backs, and the third defender.
For the latter, the WAGNH Community prefer Josh Acheampong over Wesley Fofana by a 49-39 margin.
For the wing-backs, the voters want Jorrel Hato and Pedro Neto, with Pep Chavarría garnering only 27% and Marco Palestra still out injured. Malo Gusto checks in at 43 per cent, not nearly enough at this position, or midfield.
For the midfield, perhaps most crucially, the vote favors Roméo Lavia alongside James. Moisés Caicedo's unknown injury status is reflected in his measly 24 per cent vote share. Still ahead of Valentín Barco, at just 20.

It's just one game.
Let's keep this in mind as we start to examine the Texas Tech football team's 33-10 win over Abilene Christian. By all accounts, the game was relatively boring, a workmanlike victory for the Red Raiders to knock the cobwebs off and start anew.
Each season is a snowflake, no two ever exactly alike. However, when some problems trickle over from one season to the next, with entirely new personnel between the individual units, it's fair to wonder what the deal is.
Texas Tech operated functionally on offense, putting together back-to-back methodical drives to open the game. Rushing touchdowns by Quinten Joyner (on his first official touch as a Red Raider) and J'Koby Williams made it seem destined for another tail-whooping of the Wildcats.
While the outcome was never in question, there were no offensive fireworks until Malcolm Simmons got by an ACU defender late in the fourth for a score. Offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich called a conservative game, mixing the run with the pass and moving the ball down the field, usually without much resistance from the ACU defense. It was the small plays that wound up garnering Tech 471 yards of total offense. Only a few deep throw attempts from Will Hammond, who was more than happy to check it down to Williams as often as possible with nothing open.

It was the end of an era last season when Gary Danielson called his final game with CBS after 20 seasons as CBS's lead college football ****** yst.
Play-by-play announcer Brad Nessler, who had worked alongside Danielson at CBS since 2016 and also worked with him during a previous stint at ABC, was in need of a new partner for Big Ten action. He found it in Charles Davis, who traded in the NFL booth for the college one.
Davis made his CBS Big Ten debut on Saturday, calling Boise State-Oregon alongside Nessler and sideline reporter Jenny Dell.
By all accounts, the former Tennessee Volunteers star excelled in his college football debut, bringing some energy to the booth, as well as some somewhat relevant pop culture references.
Overall, Davis garnered high praise from many pundits and media members for his work on the day.

Everton boss David Moyes has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester United at Hill ****** inson Stadium (kick-off 14:00 BST).
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Moyes started by saying he is "disappointed we didn't do more business and disappointed things didn't go our way in" in the transfer window. He said it "wasn't anybody's fault" that the deal for Folarin Balogun fell through because "the player had a problem in his medical and that was simply it".
On the sale of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City: "We were looking to get some money in. We lost Iliman, who we didn't want to lose, but it's quite difficult when the likes of Manchester City come along looking for your players. Ultimately, we didn't want to lose a lot of the players, but for different reasons that had to happen."
On the reported late bid by Chelsea for James Garner: "What was said was completely untrue, so I don't know where that's come from. There's no truth in that whatsoever."

The midfielder had already gained senior experience away from Old Trafford by that stage, undertaking loan spells with Watford and Nottingham Forest.

Drake will honor one of its most prominent and influential former football players later this season.
Bulldogs director of athletics Brian Hardin announced the school will unveil a statue of Johnny Bright in a public ceremony on Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
The statue will stand approximately six and a half feet tall and rest on a one-foot-tall concrete pedestal outside the southeast gate of Drake Stadium, along Forest Avenue.
Bright suffered a broken jaw after he was repeatedly struck after a play during Drake's Oct. 20, 1951 game at Oklahoma State.
Two Des Moines Register photographers caught the incident that garnered national attention and earned the Pulitzer Prize. Bright went on to earn All-American honors that season and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Celtic have signed goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone, on a season-long loan from Wolves, subject to international clearance.
The 33-year-old England internationalist will supplement Celtic's goalkeeping squad, joining Viljami Sinisalo and Ross Doohan, and he brings a wealth of experience garnered in English football over the past few years since he began his career with Manchester United back in 2011.
He has spent the past two seasons at Wolves, and made 17 appearances for the club last season. He has also gained four caps for England, and kept a clean sheet in all four of those international games.
Speaking to CelticPlayer after signing for Celtic, Sam Johnstone said: "It's a great feeling, I'm buzzing to be here and I'm excited to get going.
"I didn't need convincing by anyone, but Joe Hart rang me the other day just to reiterate what a place this is, what a great group of lads and how the fans are unbelievable.

AEW All In 2026 delivered as one of the year's best professional wrestling events this past Sunday in London. On the grand stage of the world-famous Wembley Stadium, one of the annual spectacle's biggest moments was the debut of Kofi and Austin Creed — now known as The New Level after spending years in WWE as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of The New Day.
The legendary duo wasn't advertised for the pay-per-view event, but instead made their arrival as a surprise entrant in the promotion's first-ever Trios Roulette Royal match for the AEW Trios Championships. Alongside Swerve Strickland, Kofi and Creed pulled off the win to become the new champions on only their first night on the job.
Kofi and Creed parted ways with WWE in a shocking development in May after a 12-year run teaming together, in addition to teaming with Big E. While Big E remained with the company as a retired wrestler-turned-analyst, Kofi and Creed were asked to take significant pay cuts when it came time to negotiate their contracts.
Speaking on Monday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show," they revealed that they only officially signed with AEW a day before All In. Regarding their WWE departure, the reported 50% pay-cut ask was incorrect: it was higher, according to Kofi.
"We just thought the terms that they wanted us to perform under were not fair based on what we brought to the table, based on what we're worth, based on the knowledge and prowess we have as performers and wrestlers," Kofi told Uncrowned. "What we can give back to the younger people and do in entertainment. Being able to go out there and garner a reaction as good guys or bad guys, no matter the situation. We took a lot of great pride in being Swiss Army knives. Whatever the situation was, we would make it great and make it entertaining. Compensation was definitely a big part, for sure, but more so, we wanted to work.

She came to the court in braids, wearing a headband and a shooting sleeve, looking like a young Iverson. She even shared high praise for AI in her media session, garnering a response from the legend himself.

"I think he's also someone that I look up to a lot, because he's kind of done a lot in fashion, whether it's on purpose or not, but he's shifted the way that NBA players dress. I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports and also just expressing yourself through style, I feel like he's someone that I look up to in that regard."
The media person also asked if she'd had an opportunity to talk to Iverson, to which she responded, "zero, right now." However, the 11-time NBA All-Star eventually noticed the tribute and was touched, and thanked the tennis sensation with a post on Instagram:
"Wow, what a[n] honor! BIG FAN can't wait to meet you. naomiosaka"

Joe Mazzulla has a tendency to garner attention for viral quotes he makes to media. The Boston Celtics head coach made headlines once again regarding the legacy he wants to leave behind when he retires in the distant future.
Mazzulla has been at the Celtics' helm since the start of the 2022-23 season, the first stint of his head coaching career. He led the franchise to the championship in 2024, shining as one of the best coaches in the league as well as one of the youngest.
Mazzulla recently appeared for an interview with Derin McMaim on the No Show Dogs podcast last week. It was there where he was honest about how he wants to be remembered in his career or, in his case, forgotten.
"If the people around you didn't do what they do… I wouldn't do anything. The thing I reflect on the most is… I think you have to be willing to be forgotten. I think that's kind of my main goal. I want to be forgotten about. Because that means after you… It was better. I think that's what it means to be a Celtic. However long you play, coach, work for the Celtics…"
"Your job is to keep it exactly where it's at or bring it better. You cannot bring it down. If you leave and it gets worse, that's your fault. If you leave and they win, and they forgot about you, you did your job. I talk about that every day with the staff. Our job is to one day be forgotten about because you did your job. It became about something bigger than you. It's a burden and a love for being with the Celtics… But it's a responsibility. I think we could take that into our daily life. Can I leave it so much better that they don't remember me because the next person came and was better?"
