Your adult child has a business idea and wants your help getting it off the ground. You'd love to support them, but what happens if the business fails and you never see that money again?
Personal finance expert Suze Orman says parents and grandparents should think carefully before opening their wallets. In a recent blog post, she warned that helping adult children pursue their entrepreneurial dreams shouldn't come at the expense of your own financial security.
Orman's main rule is not to offer financial ***** istance unless you're "100% sure you can afford to give that money."

Tate McRae traded stagewear for a softer kind of drama at Schiaparelli, arriving at the fashion house's Spring/Summer 2027 show in Paris in a sweeping champagne-toned satin look.
The 23-year-old singer attended the October 1 presentation in a deeply plunging blazer paired with a matching floor-length slip skirt. Her hair was worn long and loose, while the styling remained relatively spare, allowing the reflective fabric and dramatic neckline to carry most of the look.
CNN Style identified the outfit as a champagne blazer and coordinating slip skirt, clearing up a detail that was easy to miss from photographs because the uninterrupted satin silhouette could initially read as a gown. McRae joined other music figures at the Schiaparelli presentation, including Peggy Gou and JT.
The front-row appearance came during an unusually significant day for McRae away from the concert stage. October 1 also marked the official launch of TATE 01, her debut fragrance and first major move into the beauty business, putting a new entrepreneurial project alongside one of her most prominent Paris Fashion Week appearances.
From a distance, the fluid line of McRae's outfit made the satin ensemble resemble a single dress. CNN Style's Paris Fashion Week coverage, however, described it as a plunging champagne blazer worn with a matching slip skirt.

Let's just get this out of the way: Mark Wahlberg is as A-list as it gets. He broke out in 1997's "Boogie Nights," and in the nearly three decades since, he's built one of the highest-wattage careers in Hollywood: two Academy Award nominations, a Golden Globe nod for "The Fighter," multiple Emmy nominations as a producer (HBO's "Entourage" among them), and a filmography that spans crime dramas, comedies, and action blockbusters. Right now, he's back on screen in "By Any Means," a manhunt thriller set during the 1966 Mississippi civil rights killings.
He's also signaling where he's increasingly turning his attention. Wahlberg will sit down with Bruce K. Lee, Founder and CEO of Keebeck Wealth Management, on the main stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 to talk about his own progression. Grab your ticket here so you don't miss a moment of this session and Disrupt 2026. Ticket prices increase on September 25.
His acting career is really just part of the picture. Over the past two decades, Wahlberg has built a production company, a restaurant chain, apparel and fitness ventures, a slate of angel investments, and the now 25-year-old Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, which supports inner-city kids and teens. He's used his Hollywood success to launch big projects well outside the movie business — and in a fireside chat at this year's Disrupt, he's going to give us a peek into how.
Wahlberg, who's leaned almost entirely on entrepreneurial instinct about people, culture, products, and markets, is now someone who's been building institutional-level investing discipline, with Lee as his guide, and with a growing focus on healthcare and wellness startups. It's a rare, unvarnished look at how someone with Wahlberg's cultural intelligence has worked his way into some of the most sophisticated rooms in business and finance.

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment ******* umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF). Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) operates as the financial services holding company for the Capital One, National ******* ociation, which engages in the provision of various financial products and services. On August 19, 2026, Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) closed at $220.73 per share. The one-month return of Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) was 10.39% and its shares gained 4.11% over the past 52 weeks. Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) has a market capitalization of $135.41 billion with a 52-week trading range between $174.24 - $259.64.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The consumer cyclicals and staples companies in this group have idiosyncratic opportunities to drive rapid earnings growth over the coming years. Capital One Financial Corporation (NYSE:COF), one of the largest credit card companies in the U.S., operates the only full-suite scaled digital bank. Last year's acquisition of Discover conferred both significant financial synergies and the upside of operating its own network. Despite its size, it is still run by the founder and retains an entrepreneurial spirit. With 20% returns on equity, we believe it is underappreciated and can drive both strong earnings growth and multiple expansion. We expect EPS growth of approximately 20% for this group of companies over the coming years."

ESPN co-founder Bill Rasmussen passed away at the age of 93.
Rasmussen brought his vision of a 24/7 all-sports network to life in 1979. Even though he left the network the next year, his impact in helping to launch the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network has far surpassed anyone's reasonable expectations of what could be possible.
In the wake of his passing, several pillars of ESPN's past and present stepped forward to pay tribute.
"Bill was a remarkable man – a visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports," said ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro in a statement released by ESPN. "Quite simply, none of us would be here today if it wasn't for Bill's passion and all the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit he put into building ESPN in the late 1970s – key aspects of our company culture that still carry on to this day."
"He was such a grateful person and every sports fan can be grateful for Bill. He wasn't a glass half-full guy; his glass was always overflowing with optimism. He greeted everyone with a smile and we can all smile knowing Bill's legacy," ESPN legend Chris Berman added in the ESPN announcement.

The man who pioneered wholesale change in sports media with the founding of ESPN has died.
Bill Rasmussen, the entrepreneur who conceived the 24-hour cable sports network ESPN, died on Tuesday at age 93, the network announced. Rasmussen, along with his son Scott, famously came up with the idea for ESPN while stuck in traffic traveling to the Jersey Shore. Now, nearly 50 years later, ESPN is a behemoth prepared to broadcast the first Super Bowl in the network's history next February.
"Bill was a remarkable man – a visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. "Quite simply, none of us would be here today if it wasn't for Bill's passion and all the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit he put into building ESPN in the late 1970s – key aspects of our company culture that still carry on to this day."
Rasmussen's time at ESPN was essential but short-lived. The network launched in 1979 on the back of emerging satellite technology and funding from Getty Oil. The early days of ESPN were programmed with the flagship SportsCenter news and highlights show surrounded by a hodgepodge of live sports rights. Securing early-round NCAA Tournament broadcasts in March of 1980 proved to be a springboard for the fledgling network, helping bring ESPN into the mainstream.
Rasmussen left ESPN in October 1980 just over a year after its formal launch. Despite his brief tenure, his impact on the sports media industry was profound.

LAND O' LAKES, Fla. (AP) — Bill Rasmussen, who co-founded ESPN in 1979 after being fired from a public relations job in the World Hockey ******* ociation, died Tuesday. He was 93.
ESPN historian Mike Soltys said Rasmussen died at his Florida home from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Rasmussen announced in 2019 that he had been diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2014.
"Bill was a remarkable man — a visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. "Quite simply, none of us would be here today if it wasn't for Bill's passion and all the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit he put into building ESPN in the late 1970s — key aspects of our company culture that still carry on to this day."
Rasmussen and his son Scott came up with the idea of a network carrying sports around the clock, and it would revolutionize Americans' TV-watching habits. But the pair didn't stick around long. They were forced out after only a year by ESPN majority owner Getty Oil.
Bill Rasmussen's original idea was a cable channel covering only Connecticut sports. Many cable operators in the state were skeptical, but someone suggested buying satellite time to reach a national audience.

NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC) provides ****** ytics and insights to enhance the patient and employee experience of healthcare organizations in the United States. NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC) was formerly known as National Research Corporation and changed its name in April 2026. On August 7, 2026, NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC) closed at $20.34 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $449.9 million and a year‑to‑date gain of 9.30%. NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC) posted a one‑month return of ‑6.02%, while its shares gained 35.95% over the past 52 weeks.
Long Cast Advisers stated the following regarding NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"On NRC Health (NASDAQ:NRC), our newest investment, I discussed the company's evolution from owner / operator to professionally led management team, and the expected benefits from putting a growth focused, incentivized and entrepreneurial executive suite behind this strong and recognizable brand, in a business with strong FCF generation and in a market where the two leading competitors just merged in a PE backed $6.5B deal.
Quantitative evidence that supports our optimism includes the recently announced largest contract in company history, leading to the highest 12-mos backlog in history. Deferred revs are also growing and this typically leads sales. Furthermore, management indicated that the second year of the aforementioned contract is materially larger than the first, which infers that in one year's time, 12-mos backlog could be even larger, and with capacity to do more. We continue to add opportunistically."

I've never seen a documentary about Girl Scout Cookies before, so I went into Alysa Nahmias's "Cookie Queens" figuring that it might include, among other things, a tantalizing history of this beloved American institution — a rundown of the nine current varieties of Girl Scout Cookie (my favorite: Samoas, obvi! With Tagalongs a close second), a survey of some of the dozens of discontinued flavors (Rasberry Rallies, we hardly knew ye), and — more to the point — a look at how Girl Scout Cookies came to be, how the Girl Scout Cookie season developed into a wholesome Middle American pastime, and what Girl Scout Cookies have meant, through the decades, to those of us who hungrily consume them and to all the girls who've devoted themselves to selling boxes of them.
But no! "Cookie Queens" includes none of that stuff. The movie unfolds entirely in the present and never gives you even a fleeting sense of the past, of how Girl Scout Cookies rose in prominence to become the phenomenon they are today. (In case you're wondering, they were launched in World War I to raise money for U.S. soldiers.) The opening credits, set to the Julie Ruin's "Cookie Road," which sounds like a great lost track from the B-52's, play over black-and-white photographs and old film footage of Girl Scouts from bygone eras. But once the credits are over, the movie gets down to its single-minded theme and obsession: how Girl Scout Cookies, once a quaint piece of Americana, have lurched into their late-capitalist phase, with the girls who sell them vying to become champions by fashioning themselves into 12-year-old entrepreneurial go-getters.

Blackstone may manage more than $1.3 trillion in **** ets, but president Jon Gray doesn't want the firm's newest class of Gen Z **** ysts thinking like stereotypical employees at a Wall Street giant. To succeed, he says, they should approach their jobs like they're working at a startup.
"Think about wherever you're working, whatever capacity in our firm or elsewhere, how you can be an agent of change, how you can make things better, how you can serve clients in a better way," Gray said in a recent address to Blackstone's newest class of **** ysts, adding they should focus on "this idea of being entrepreneurial."
Gray has spent 34 years at Blackstone and has seen that philosophy play out firsthand. He credits the firm's rise to becoming the world's largest alternative **** et manager to preserving the culture it had as a small business when it was founded by Peter Peterson and Stephen Schwarzman in 1985.
"We're as nimble and entrepreneurial when there's something new that emerges," Gray said. "And yet we can continue to do it at a larger and larger scale."
"The beating heart of the place, that feels the same. Drive, desire to be successful, operate with integrity, be excellent in what we do," he added.

What began nine years ago as a dinner gathering of roughly 20 people at a restaurant in Laredo, Texas, has grown into the largest U.S.-to-Mexico logistics event in the country. On June 9, 2026, the 9th Annual Modernization of Cross-Border Trade (MCBT) convened at the Laredo Country Club, drawing representatives from more than 500 logistics companies eager to navigate a rapidly shifting cross-border landscape.
"The event started with only 20 people," said Mark Vickers, founder of Borderless Coverage and Executive Vice President and Head of International Logistics at Reliance Partners, which hosts the event. "Now this is the largest U.S. to Mexico logistics event in the U.S."
That growth mirrors the trajectory of Borderless Coverage itself. Vickers developed the company as an entrepreneurial venture. It was the first program to offer per-load, per-project, per-client cargo insurance coverage for shipments into Mexico.
Reliance Partners, the largest privately held transportation and logistics insurance agency in the country, acquired Borderless Coverage in 2021. The MCBT event grew right alongside this acquisition, evolving from an insurance-focused gathering into a premier forum for shippers, freight brokers, carriers, customs professionals, and technology providers operating across both sides of the border.

Australia's VC ecosystem remains divided over a capital gains tax overhaul, with investors warning it could drive talent to lower-tax rivals.
Under the proposal, Australian investors would no longer be eligible for a 50% capital gains tax discount on their ****** ets from July 1, 2027. Instead, the discount would be replaced by a 30% minimum tax floor based on an "inflation index cost base model" under which investors would be taxed on gains above the rate of inflation.
Not only will it impact Australian investors, families and trusts—leaving foreign investors and superannuation funds mostly untouched—but entrepreneur stock ownership plans (ESOPs) would see their effective tax rate rise from 23.5% to 47%.
The backlash from Australia's tech ecosystem was instant. Critics said this would erode Australia's competitiveness in favor of lower-tax regimes such as those in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai, all vying for a larger piece of a highly mobile and global talent pool. They added that it would also undermine the kind of entrepreneurialism that has seen the country spawn tech unicorns such as Canva, Rokt and Immutable.
On Thursday, Australian authorities responded by introducing further definition to the tax reform for VCs and startups, underlining the age, size and nature of the company's business when shares were issued and shareholding periods, while exempting VCs from the inflation-based index approach to calculating tax.

In the fast-paced world of Hollywood, fame can sometimes be fleeting, even for the biggest stars of the 2000s. Many celebrities who once dominated our screens have taken a step back from the limelight — some by choice, others by circumstance. From reality TV icons and chart-topping pop singers, to teen heartthrobs and comedic talents, these once-familiar faces have found new paths or disappeared entirely from the public eye. Here are the unforgettable stars whose names you still remember, but whose whereabouts might surprise you.
Known best for his roles in drama series, Shane West struck a chord with audiences seeking tender moments and underdog heroes. He played Landon Carter opposite Mandy Moore in the 2002 teen tearjerker A Walk to Remember. Despite his early promise and musical side gig with punk bands, including fronting the Germs on tour for nearly five years, Shane's career trajectory moved away from center stage. Nowadays, his public appearances are rare, making fans wonder if he may be plotting a comeback, or simply enjoying life out of the spotlight.
Cameron Diaz was once a Hollywood mainstay known for both comedic and dramatic chops, and for consistently drawing crowds at the box office. After a string of highly successful films and acclaimed performances, she decided to step back from acting to focus on her personal life and other ventures, famously calling her decade away "the best 10 years" of her life during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. She also launched her own organic wine label, Avaline, in 2020. Diaz recently returned to acting in 2025's Back in Action.
Lauren Conrad helped define a generation's idea of celebrity. She first rose to prominence as one of the original cast members on Laguna Beach in 2004, then received her own spinoff series The Hills in 2006, which followed her life as she pursued a career in the fashion industry. After dominating the MTV era, she pivoted successfully to the fashion world, collaborating with Kohl's to launch LC Lauren Conrad in 2009, and branched into writing and philanthropy. While she still appears at charity events and in entrepreneurial circles, Conrad keeps a much lower public profile than in her reality TV heyday.
Ryan Cabrera captured the charts and viewers' hearts with his upbeat hit singles and TV-linked romances. His 2004 major-label debut album, Take It All Away, debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum. Though his musical career flourished briefly, he eventually slid out of the Top 40 but never disappeared entirely. Devoted fans can sometimes spot him performing at festivals and nostalgic pop tours, per his website. These days, he lives for the stage, but far from the pop stardom frenzy of his early years.
