Brian Kelly was let go as the head coach of the LSU Tigers football program in the middle of last season after he failed to find the sort of success either he or the university envisioned when he came to Baton Rouge after a long stint as the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
In the first game of the Lane Kiffin era, the Tigers dominated the Clemson Tigers from start to finish, winning 51-10. After being asked about his thoughts on the game in a video call with College Sports on SiriusXM, Kelly was brutally honest about his feelings.
"I'll be honest, I had a hard time watching it, "Kelly admitted, "but I don't think it was just LSU. It was just the first weekend truly of college football, and it was hard. Like, you know, you've been doing it for, you know, 35 years, and not to be part of that process— uh, my wife, she wanted to kill me. She's like, " What's wrong with you?' And what was wrong was that I wasn't on the sideline, and it was, you know, I had to deal with it and, and, and get through it.
"But, you know, there's no mistake. LSU looked great. And, you know, obviously it's a little bit of both, right? Was Clemson maybe not as good as we thought? And certainly LSU was, was on fire, and that showed in the game. So props, props to LSU. They played great."
As tough a time as he might've had watching the Tigers from afar, Kelly did admit that he thought they had a championship-caliber defense.

The "Megyn Kelly Show" host went after the "Practical Magic 2" star for comments made during the film's press tour. The actress said she was "uber paranoid" for the safety of her two children – who are both Black – in America right now. Kelly was quick to take issue with that, saying Bullock is feeding into the real problem.
"She has two children, both adopted, I think, from Louisiana. She wants you to believe, just like LeBron James said that Black men are being hunted in the streets of America… that they're being hunted in the streets of America," Kelly said. "She is a low-information voter, obviously, who has bought the lies about police, the false narrative that has besmirched them, defamed them and gotten Black Americans killed, thousands of them. Thousands killed because of fake narratives about the police that caused the police to pull back, especially in underserved communities."
"Minorities wind up dying. Low-income minorities, in particular, wind up dying because crime is unleashed on them by effectively woke white liberals like Sandra Bullock, who pushes false narratives that make her feel better about herself," she continued. The FSU Seminoles fell to the SMU Mustangs 27-24 on Monday in Doak Campbell Stadium, and their fans are fed up with the team and Mike Norvell. It was a winnable game for Florida State, but they once again found ways to lose.
Since their 13-1 season in 2023, when they won the ACC and nearly made the College Football Playoff, FSU has gone 8-18 overall and 3-17 in conference play under Norvell. That has caused numerous fans to call for his job, but that is not an easy move.
While their performance over the past two-plus seasons has been well below FSU's standards, it will be expensive to move on from Norvell. According to Craig Myers of USA TODAY Sports, his buyout is $46.7 million if he is fired before Dec. 1, 2026.
If FSU does decide to fire Norvell, his buyout would be the third-biggest in college football history, behind only the $76.8 million the Texas A&M Aggies paid Jimbo Fisher and the $54 million the LSU Tigers paid Brian Kelly. The Seminoles paid Willie Taggart $18 million when they fired him during the 2029 season.
FSU signed Mike Norvell to an eight-year contract worth around $84 million ahead of the 2024 season and guaranteed him that his buyout would be 85% of his remaining salary if he was fired. The deal seemed like a smart move at the time. Not only were they coming off their 13-1 performance in 2023, but the Alabama Crimson Tide were considering hiring him to replace Nick Saban.

CHICAGO — The second volleyball match Sunday night at Wrigley Field in the SEC-Big Ten Challenge was suspended because of excessive moisture on the court.
The decision was made to prevent injuries after players slipped several times on the wet surface.
With a sellout crowd of 43,067 energized for the first volleyball event at the iconic home of the Chicago Cubs, third-ranked Kentucky beat No. 11 Penn State in four sets in the opening match — just an appetizer for fans of the top-ranked Huskers, who filled nearly all of the seats at Wrigley.
Ideal conditions — or so it seemed — awaited Nebraska and Missouri. But the first set was stopped for more than 15 minutes after 2 points. Players from both teams dried the TeraFlex floor with towels as the humidity levels of a 72-degree night pushed past 80 percent.
"This was amazing," Nebraska coach Dani Busboom Kelly said. "I applaud the effort. But there's a reason our sport's indoors."

An Amazon cargo plane crashed just outside Miami International Airport after it overran the runway while landing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane was arriving from Puerto Rico. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel clarified that it was an Amazon flight operated by 21 Air and the company is working to support everyone affected. WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, Sept 4 (Reuters) - The White House has reviewed candidates to potentially replace Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg, three people familiar with the discussions told Reuters, a sign that more leadership change could come for a Pentagon already facing unusually high staff turnover.
The effort, which was under way in June, has included conversations with senior lawmakers in the Senate about whether the administration's picks would have enough support to be confirmed, said two of the people, one of whom added that the review was still going on as of late August. Reuters could not determine when the White House began considering candidates.
The three sources said no decision had been made to remove Feinberg from his post. They did not say why the White House was reviewing potential replacements and did not specify which candidates the White House was considering.
"These so-called anonymous 'sources' have no idea what they are talking about," said White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly.

For instance, a comment heard from a sports fan/friend not affiliated with either institution engaged in this achingly non-traditional Apple Cup football clash at Husky Stadium on Sunday afternoon:
"Seems kind of meaningless, doesn't it?"
Well, like so many things, it depends on your perspective.
I would argue that this game is one of the few things left in contemporary college sports that does have meaning beyond the dollar signs, and which, rarer still, continues to make sense.

You know how you can tell when somebody's on the verge of extracting the prize from prizefighting? It's when they begin to dominate headlines without ever throwing a punch.
Oh, Usman Nurmagomedov came close to doing just that in his first unofficial Octagon visit. Last weekend in Shanghai he hopped the fence like a thief in the night after Song Yadong sent his older brother Umar "to the land of wind and ghosts," as my colleague Ben Fowlkes likes to say, loading up as if deliver an elbow as Song did his victory lap. Fortunately, he didn't do it, yet that semi-action — which Usman himself said was much ado about nothing — helped him generate more headlines than Song.
A couple of weeks prior, out in Philadelphia, Usman was shown on the UFC 330 broadcast sitting cageside, the first indications that the UFC is biding its time until it can sign him. It might've been the most exciting thing about the event. The word being tossed around about the world's top MMA free agent signing with the UFC has been "inevitable" ever since, which feels a little Calvinistic for a man of free will.
Everybody is talking about Usman Nurmagomedov. At just 28 and coming into his prime, he's undefeated at 22-0 (1 NC), and he has the sacred name. In fact, he's got two if you factor Kamaru into this. He has Bellator belts in the back of his closet somewhere, and PFL ******* les that he shows off at parties. Henry Cejudo said on a podcast this week that the PFL, Usman's longtime promotion, would go belly-up if they let the last of the invincible Nurmagomedov's walk.
"He leaves the PFL tomorrow, the PFL is finished," Cejudo declared. "Straight up."

In 1893, a chemistry professor named Charles Coates arrived at Louisiana State University and wrote that, to his surprise, "there was practically no athletics in the student body: no football, no tennis, and only very little baseball in the spring." A broad program of sports struck him as the kind of thing a school should have, particularly as US universities were beginning to tout intercollegiate athletics as critical to a balanced higher-ed experience and another way to justify the cost of entry. But 133 years on, sports aren't merely the main attraction at LSU. They're the school's raison d'être, the blinkered obsession that consumes the university and its most prominent ambassadors.
Any doubt that the business of educating college students is just a nettlesome distraction from the business of college sports in Baton Rouge has been emphatically dispelled over the past 10 months. On the football side, the school has spent or committed roughly $162m to its last three head coaches: Ed Orgeron, the folksy national champion in 2019 who received a $17m buyout when he was fired two years later; Brian Kelly, the unloved underachiever who received a $54m buyout after being fired last October; and Lane Kiffin, the Kelly replacement whom it signed to a $91m deal a month later. Clemson, the opponent for LSU's season opener at home on Saturday, are about to find out what all that money buys.

In March, LSU brought back men's basketball coach Will Wade, the turnaround artist who became a national emblem of college sports' old pay-for-play hypocrisy when he was caught on an FBI wiretap discussing a recruiting offer seven years ago. An NCAA dragnet soon uncovered more alleged recruiting improprieties. After LSU fired Wade for cause, he resurfaced at McNeese State, engineering an unlikely reversal of fortune that eventually landed him a lucrative offer to coach back in the big leagues at North Carolina State. That stint lasted all of one 20-win season before the Tigers swooped in and began the process to bring Wade back – despite the fact that someone else was already coaching the team.
And then there's Kim Mulkey, grande dame of LSU sports blindness. When the national championship-winning women's basketball coach brought 17-year-old Anna Minaeva into the fold last month, more than a few eyebrows arched – and not because she plays the same position as junior center Kate Koval. It's more that Minaeva is Russian, Koval is Ukrainian and the one notable reprieve her father, a drone operator in the Ukrainian military, took from the war was to travel to the United States to watch his daughter play.

Ruggeri's price target of $265 results in more than 26% upside potential as of August 28 closing. Let's explore the underlying business fundamentals that support this rating upgrade.
Recent financials clearly back the rating upgrade by Argus, as the company reported $24.6 billion in Q2 2026 revenue compared to $22.7 billion during Q2 2025. The 8% topline expansion primarily reflected 171 commercial deliveries during the quarter. Despite a core loss of ($0.76) per share, the company's cash flows turned positive amid improved working capital. In the second quarter, it posted $1.4 billion in operating cash flow and $631 million in free cash flow. The 35-year-old (also known as Pilot Pete) captioned a photo booth strip featuring a shot of him kissing Carr's baby **** p alongside a heart emoji, "1 + 1 = 4."
In addition to him showing love for the nurse's pregnant belly, Carr hilariously returned the favor by giving her boyfriend's stomach a smooch in solidarity, along with posing for a couple of sweet kisses.
