Stellantis N.V. (NYSE:STLA)'s long-idled Belvidere ******* embly Plant in Illinois has been a case study for how a plant reopening can be pushed further into the future. The plant has been dormant since February 2023, when Stellantis N.V. (NYSE:STLA) ended the Jeep Cherokee production and laid off over 1,300 employees. A 2027 production target for Belvidere has now shifted, with Stellantis targeting pilot production of the next-generation Cherokee in the first half of 2028 and retail production in the second half of 2029, even as Stellantis portrays the news as a larger investment rather than a delay.

It was energy that sat dormant for four years during Billy Napier's four years as Florida football coach. Jon Sumrall relit the flame with 66 points last week vs. Florida Atlantic, but that fire fizzled out in a sluggish first quarter vs. FCS foe Campbell.
Until Brown III caught a punt early in the second quarter.
64 yards later, he landed in the end zone. Three minutes later, Brown III once again reigned in a punt and scored another touchdown.

JACKSONVILLE — Overtime hasn't been kind to Trinity Christian this season.
American Heritage quarterback Neimann Lawrence plowed into the end zone on a two-point conversion in overtime to lead the Patriots to a 15-14 win over the Conquerors on Friday, Sept. 11.
The loss dropped Trinity (No. 3 Class 1A) to 2-2. Both losses — Ed White in the season opener and American Heritage — have come in overtime.
Unfortunately for the Conquerors, this one seems very self-inflicted. American Heritage (2-2, No. 1 Class 4A) twice lined up to kick a tying extra point but Trinity Christian had a pre-snap penalty both times. With the ball now at the 1-yard line, American Heritage coach Mike Smith opted to go for the win.
"Lack of discipline," Trinity Christian coach Verlon Dorminey said. "We've been hammering on them. To be in the neutral zone twice. To give them an opportunity. I wanted to go to the second overtime. Or at least give us a chance to block the extra point, but we didn't get to. And they got if."

Not to date myself, but I came up in a time when first-person shooter video games were picking up in popularity. I latched on to "Counter-Strike" during my first year of undergrad in 2001. The whole floor of my dorm was male engineers only. It was a perfect haven for LAN parties. While some of my classmates practiced with rifles, I tended toward the "spray and pray" options. My reasoning was simple:
If I fire enough bullets in the video game, I'm bound to hit somebody.

And as we get to the end of our drafts, that's how we should be approaching picks we think of as just throwaways.

The Kansas City Chiefs snapped their preseason losing streak with Friday night's 9-9 tie with the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters after the game, addressing the upcoming roster cuts this weekend.
"This is like the hardest time of the year for for coaches and personnel guys and players for that matter, because you got to make these cuts coming up," said Reid, "and these guys have busted their tail through the hot, humid weather at training camp, and sleeping in a dorm for you, and then coming out and playing in these preseason games, and we appreciate it as a coaching staff and organization. We appreciate the effort that these fellows put in. At the same time, we're there to support. I mean, I can say that really to a man."
All 32 NFL teams are required to trim their active offseason training camp rosters from 90 down to the regular-season limit of 53 players by this Sunday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m. CT.
"These guys, I thought this group challenged each other and really made some decisions here. They're going to be tough for Brett (Veach) and his guys to make as we go in the next couple of days here," said Reid. "So, we wish them the best moving forward as they have a chance to make another team. The one positive out of that for all of them is they were able to get reps, and once you're on that tape, you can be evaluated, and it gives you at least a chance to make another squad."
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and his staff will once again have tough decisions to make over the weekend. Some players will have played their final game in a Chiefs uniform on Friday night.

"St. Joe's dorm rooms, man, you don't get a lot of text messages," Mahomes joked, referring to the rooms at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., where the Chiefs hold training camp. But Brittany, 30, is the exception.

In the opening game, Means showed why it's his backfield to share.
He scored two of his three touchdowns in the first quarter and led the way as Dorman beat Hillcrest, 40-30, Aug. 21 in high school football Week 1 of the SCHSL season at Cavalier Stadium.
His third TD, a 42-yard run with 2:18 to play after a two-hour weather delay, put it out of reach. He finished at 1:15 a.m. with 127 yards on 16 carries and a 65-yard TD catch.
Means (5-foot-8, 175 pounds) rushed for 1,450 yards and scored 21 touchdowns in 2025. But there will be no holding off Nash. He's a four-star ranked as the No. 5 running back in the country for the Class of 2029.

Police arrested a 19-year-old found hiding in a dormitory closet at Virginia State University on Saturday in connection with an overnight shooting on campus that left five people wounded, including one with critical injuries.
Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, is not a student on campus nor were four of the people injured, Chesterfield County Police said in a statement. They ranged in age from 17 to 23. One of the injured, a 20-year-old, is a student and has been released from the hospital, authorities said. The victims' names have not been released.
Authorities have given no information about a possible motive. Police obtained eight felony warrants for Harris, including for malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
The university said in an earlier statement that authorities were searching for multiple suspects, but police provided no additional information Saturday evening about the search. University officials said earlier in the day that law enforcement did not believe there was an immediate threat to the campus community, and a campus lockdown had been lifted.
The shooting, just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, prompted a campus lockdown and came as students were getting ready for the new school year.

CHICAGO – Alessio Milivojevic confidently strode across the stage and sat down on the dais, snappily dressed in a dark-colored pinstripe suit that blended into the black table cloth and microphone in front of him.
Any nervousness that he showed last fall as a redshirt freshman who was thrust into the Michigan State football quarterback job also faded with every answer to every question at Big Ten media day. He knows now he is the starter and face of the program going into Pat Fitzgerald's first season, and Milivojevic's comfort at the podium came from advice he got recently from his new coach.
"I think it's just being yourself at the end of the day," Milivojevic said last week. "I'm just coming up here talking as if I was talking to one of my best friends right now."
As the Spartans prepare to open preseason camp on Thursday, Aug. 6, Milivojevic and his 104 teammates will spend the next month building their bonds inside the walls of Case Hall. That's where they will be living when they are not across Chestnut Road at the football complex working toward Fitzgerald's debut game against Toledo on Friday night, Sept. 4, across Shaw Lane at Spartan Stadium.
Fitzgerald, a former All-American and College Football Hall of Fame linebacker who spent 17 seasons as head coach at his alma mater Northwestern, flashed back to his days in high school and college. He brought back the tradition of putting the Spartans in the dorms for camp because of the friendships and connections he cultivated as a player and watched as a coach before being dubiously dispatched by Northwestern before the 2023 season.

The Colorado Buffaloes held their first media availability of fall camp after practice Tuesday, with a couple of players and defensive coordinator Chris Marve speaking with the media at Fountain-Fort Carson High School.
Cornerback Cree Thomas and linebacker Gideon Lampron spoke highly of the work the team has put in the first two days and how training away from Boulder has helped make the team closer.
"First day pretty incredible," Lampron said on practicing in Colorado Springs. "Not a lot of teams are fortunate to do this. Great for team building."

The narrative on social media surrounding the Texas Rangers never matched what happened at the trade deadline. They made only one minor deal, trusting that the team can surge as is.
ARLINGTON — A good rule of thumb for life in general is not to believe everything cranked out on social media. That is especially so in the final two days before the annual MLB trade deadline and as things pertained this year to the Texas Rangers.
The deadline passed at 5 p.m. Monday with the Rangers staying largely dormant. Beginning on Sunday morning and continuing into Monday morning, though, the buzz was that the Rangers were going to be deadline sellers because of what happened over the weekend in Houston.
The sale was on, one national expert said. Another said the Rangers were open to moving all players on the team. It all turned out to be an echo chamber of bad information.
The only move the Rangers made Monday was an afternoon trade of infielder Josh Smith and minor-league pitcher Josh Stephan to the Blue Jays for left-hander Adam Macko. The lack of moves wasn't for a lack of effort, dreary-eyed club officials said.

Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. doesn't view his time breaking records as Florida A&M football's quarterback as the glory days.
Instead, he dishes on his experiences as a student-athlete at The Highest of Seven Hills in building a successful program, much like the way the Rattlers won two Black College Football National Championships during Gray's college football career from 1997 to 2001.
As head coach, Gray's team is living in an on-campus residence hall during preseason training camp.

Burton Albion have signed goalkeeper Corey Addai from League One rivals Stockport County on a season-long loan.
The 28-year-old, who spent time on the books at **** nal and Coventry as a youth player, has featured 68 times for Stockport across all competitions since moving to Edgeley Park from Crawley in the summer of 2024.
Addai featured in back-to-back League One play-off campaigns for the Hatters, which culminated with him playing in their Wembley defeat by Bolton Wanderers in May as they missed out on promotion to the Championship.
Burton's sporting director Richard Dorman described Addai, who also counts Danish side Esbjerg among his former clubs, as "a top quality shot-stopper" who will be a "big presence" in the box for the Brewers.

Thus will begin the next chapter in the Panthers' story, which will likely be defined by how much their defense improves compared to last season. Specifically, Carolina splurged in free agency in an effort to improve a long-dormant pass rush. If those investments pay off, this could be a dangerous sleeper team in the NFC.
The biggest x-factor in this department is outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips, who will be making his debut for the Panthers after signing a massive four-year, $120 million deal in March. Matt Okada at NFL.com has named Phillips' first game in Carolina as one of the most anticipated debuts around the league in Week 1.

When former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi arrived in the U.S. in the late 1970s to study graduate-level management at Yale University, she was a self-described "misfit" from India. Instead of adjusting to the rhythms of college nightlife, Nooyi was working the midnight-to-5 a.m. shift as a dormitory receptionist before heading to class each morning to pay for her degree.
"We worked our tail off because to us, we didn't come there for the social life—we came there to study and to work hard and to move ahead," Nooyi recalled in a recent interview with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, recalling the experiences of her and her fellow classmates from developing countries. "So the goal we had was very, very clear: study, work hard, get great grades, and somehow land a job. That's all the objective was at that time."
Paying for an Ivy League degree wasn't easy, either. At the time, annual tuition was equivalent to about $20,000 in today's dollars (a far cry from the six-figure tuition costs of today), and her parents told her they couldn't help her out financially. But eventually, that relentless work ethic inside and outside of the classroom paid off.
"When we got consulting jobs or investment banking jobs, people looked at us and said, 'Hey, these are brainiacs,'" Nooyi said. "Respect just went up—purely because of the hard work and all the efforts we put in…People realized that this was a grueling experience for us, and they respected us for that."
Looking back, the overnight shifts and long hours were part of a larger belief as an immigrant: success wasn't guaranteed in America, but opportunity was.

An England football fan has said a gamble to pass up tickets for the DR Congo match has paid off, as he looks forward to being at the formidable Azteca Stadium for the last-16 clash with Mexico.
Ashley Price, who is originally from Willenhall, but now lives and runs a bar in Benidorm, is part of the England Supporters Travel Club and has access to a choice of tickets from England's official tournament allocation.
He passed on a ticket for the DR Congo match and targeted the Mexico match instead.
Watching England's nervy win, he said there were times that it felt like a bad decision.
"It was on the bucket list as soon as we all saw that the route could take us to the Azteca - that's the one that all of us big loyal England fans were looking forward to," he said.

Nigeria has announced the discovery of a world-class, polymetallic deposit in Kaduna State, with government experts saying it's one of the country's most important critical minerals discoveries in recent years. Located around the pegmatite region of Gidan Waya in the Jema'a Local Government Area, the deposit contains nickel, copper, gold, platinum group metals and rare earth elements.
The discovery was made by Steron Mining, with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) confirming the find. Kaduna State is renowned for the exceptional purity and grade of its platinum, lithium and other ****** ociated rare earth elements. Alongside the Kaduna announcement, Steron Mining recently discovered 3.3 million metric tonnes of lithium reserves at its project near Abuja, with total mineral resources estimated at 94.8 million tonnes.
Crude oil remains Nigeria's primary source of foreign exchange, generating ?20.22 trillion ($14.66 billion) in export revenue during the first five months of the current year. But the government is working to build mining into a second major source of revenue. Fiscal collections from the solid minerals sector reached ?63.92 billion ($46.3 million) in the first 11 months of 2025, up from ?38 billion during all of 2024. To accelerate that growth, Abuja has introduced a series of reforms aimed at curbing illegal mining, increasing government revenues and developing more than 40 commercially viable mineral resources, particularly lithium and other energy transition metals.

The government now requires mining license applicants to submit plans for processing and refining minerals locally rather than exporting raw ore, with the goal of retaining more investment, jobs and economic value inside the country. Crude oil remains Nigeria's primary source of foreign exchange, generating ?20.22 trillion ($14.66 billion) in export revenue during the first five months of the current year. But the government is working to build mining into a second major source of revenue. Fiscal collections from the solid minerals sector reached ?63.92 billion ($46.3 million) in the first 11 months of 2025, up from ?38 billion during all of 2024. To accelerate that growth, Abuja has introduced a series of reforms aimed at curbing illegal mining, increasing government revenues and developing more than 40 commercially viable mineral resources, particularly lithium and other energy transition metals.

The government now requires mining license applicants to submit plans for processing and refining minerals locally rather than exporting raw ore, with the goal of retaining more investment, jobs and economic value inside the country. It has also revoked more than 1,600 inactive or illegally held mineral ****** les, while the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has canceled more than 4,700 dormant, expired and illegally acquired ****** les to curb land banking and speculative ****** ding.

The offense would eventually come alive late after being pretty dormant (again), but for seven whole innings, the Braves’ lead was courtesy of Ozzie Albies. Ozzie is more than worthy of being this year’s starting second baseman for the NL at the All-Star game. Our petit sparkplug deserves the world.
Ozzie was doing it all himself versus starter Michael McGreevy, starting with an RBI double in the first to drive in Drake Baldwin. We don’t talk about what else happened there because Ozzie then made up for it with a go-ahead solo homer in the third inning to make it 2-1 Braves.
And thus the score would stay for the majority of the game.
