Rick Ross' attorney brought up his client's celebrity status while asking for a quick release from custody. The judge made it clear that fame would not change how she treated him. The rapper appeared by video before Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer on Thursday following his arrest on domestic violence-related battery charges. When his lawyer requested an expedited release for safety reasons, Glazer responded that she had "no idea" who Ross was. Ross has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.

Attorney Steve Sadow identified Ross by his legal name, William Leonard Roberts II, while asking the judge to speed up his release. "Mr. Roberts is a celebrity. I don't know to whatever degree Your Honor can, but I'd ask that his release be expedited," Sadow said.
The attorney argued that a faster release would be in his client's best interest. Glazer addressed Ross directly in her response. "Hi Mr. Roberts. I have no idea who you are, except as somebody here in the court who's going to be treated fairly, just like everybody here," she said.
Ross had been booked around 6:10 a.m. Thursday before making his video appearance. His bond was set at $4,000 for the felony battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor battery charge.

In the entertainment world, Rick Ross may be a household name, but a Miami judge made it clear that his celebrity status would not earn him special treatment in court.

During the hearing, Ross' attorney, Bradley ******* nstein, reportedly asked for the rapper's release to be expedited because of his high-profile status.

BLOOMINGTON — Eight athletes, including IU football players Kellan Wyatt and Stephen Daley, were granted a temporary restraining order in an Indiana circuit court Friday, restoring for the moment their eligibility to play college sports.
Filed and granted in Monroe County Circuit Court, the TRO ****** erts that the plaintiffs "have shown by verified pleading and supporting evidence that immediate and irreparable injury will occur before notice can be served and a hearing held."
"The Court further finds that the plaintiffs have demonstrated a probable right to relief," the order states, "and that the threatened injury outweighs any temporary burden imposed by this Order pending an expedited hearing."
Importantly, the order is not lasting. That hearing will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, in Monroe Circuit Court, where the court will hear the plaintiffs' motion for a temporary injunction, a firmer legal decision.

Revolution Medicines, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVMD) received FDA approval for Rasonque, or daraxonrasib, following an expedited review. The once-daily oral RAS inhibitor is approved for adults with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma who have received at least one prior systemic therapy or are not candidates for multiagent systemic therapy.
Revolution Medicines, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVMD) set a wholesale acquisition cost (WAC) of $39,800 for a 30-day supply. Twelve 30-day supplies would total $477,600 at WAC before discounts, rebates, or ******* istance. Rasonque is available in the United States, with (ON)Path offering insurance navigation and financial-assistance resources, including copay support for eligible commercially insured patients.
The approval was based on RASolute 302, a randomized Phase 3 trial involving 500 patients with previously treated metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. In the overall population, median overall survival reached 13.2 months with Rasonque versus 6.7 months with chemotherapy. The hazard ratio of 0.40 represented a 60% lower hazard of death during trial follow-up. Median progression-free survival was 7.2 months versus 3.6 months, while objective response rates were 30% and 11%, respectively.
The survival benefit gives Rasonque a strong clinical argument for reimbursement. Pancreatic cancer is aggressive, treatment options after progression are limited, and Rasonque improved overall survival, progression-free survival, and response rates in a randomized comparison. Oral dosing may also reduce the burden of intravenous chemotherapy.
The approved population is broader than a single mutation-defined subgroup. Rasonque can be prescribed with or without an identified RAS tumor mutation and does not require a companion diagnostic. That reduces testing friction within the approved treatment setting.

Private equity firm Trident Management appears to be an early mover in bolting together small courier businesses onto a platform that can offer shippers greater regional density and reach as an alternative to large, legacy parcel carriers.
Trident-backed Priority Courier Experts, which serves B2B customers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and upper Midwest, last week said it acquired Priority Dispatch Inc. and Diamond Expedited, Midwest providers of same-day courier and box-truck freight services for the healthcare and e-commerce industries, and Atlanta-based Inpax Shipping Solutions.
Priority Dispatch was founded in Cincinnati in 1973. Diamond Expedited began serving the greater Chicago area in 1995. The companies, which were bought from the same individual, also cover Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio; Indianapolis; Detroit and Milwaukee, with 43 employees and more than 500 independent-contractor drivers. Their combined delivery traffic is about 250,000 orders per year.
Inpax is active in seven markets across the South, including Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. With 75 employees and more than 335 owner-operators it delivers more than 400,000 orders per year. In addition to e-commerce pickup and delivery, it offers local and regional truck brokerage and tractor trailer freight.
In December 2024, Priority Courier Experts purchased Indianapolis-based Now Courier.

A laptop arrived late. What was on it made things worse. And now Apple is asking a federal court to move faster, arguing that evidence in its lawsuit against OpenAI is being actively destroyed.
Apple filed a new brief on Aug. 31, escalating its legal battle against the ChatGPT maker. The filing accuses OpenAI of withholding key evidence and alleges that a former Apple engineer sent instructions to an OpenAI colleague to destroy documents. The colleague confirmed she would comply, Bloomberg reported.
The brief was filed Monday, Aug. 31, in support of Apple's motion for expedited pretrial fact-finding in its trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI.
Apple's lawyers said OpenAI only recently provided a critical piece of evidence: an Apple-issued MacBook that former engineer Chang Liu had been using since leaving the company.
Initial forensic ***** ysis of the laptop found that Liu and colleagues at OpenAI "were well aware" of his continued unauthorized access to Apple's third-party cloud storage providers. The filing alleges Liu also "sent instructions for destroying evidence to an OpenAI colleague who confirmed she would comply."

Azariah Levells is back — and right on time, too.
A New Mexico district judge granted the Lobo cornerback's motion for an expedited temporary restraining order against the NCAA on Monday, allowing him to return to UNM for the time being.
While the fifth-year senior's restraining order is based only on preliminary findings, it made him eligible to rejoin UNM's roster ahead of Monday's cutoff date. Levells has since returned to practice and will be available to play Saturday in the Lobos' season opener against Central Michigan.
"The ordinary time required to notice and brief this motion would itself moot the relief sought and inflict the very harm (Levells) seeks to avoid," read the court order signed by Judge Beatrice Brickhouse of the 2nd Judicial District Court.
But unlike Brett Karhu — another Lobo granted a restraining order last week — Levells likely has more work to do. His motion was filed ex parte, meaning the NCAA has had no opportunity to respond.

America is debating data centers as though technological leadership and affordable electricity are competing goals. That framing misses the opportunity. Hyperscale campuses should enter the grid as integrated energy projects that add generation, storage, flexibility, and resilience, not merely as large loads. An April 2026 Pew Research Center **** ysis found more than 3,000 operating U.S. data centers and more than 1,500 in development, with 67% of planned facilities in rural communities. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory projects data centers could consume 11.8% of U.S. electricity by 2030. Goldman Sachs projects demand could rise from 31 GW in 2025 to 66 GW in 2027.
COMMENTARY
Those figures demand a legal and regulatory model that rewards projects capable of solving the problems they create. Hyperscale facilities seeking expedited approval should bring enough new supply and flexibility to serve contracted demand, pay the infrastructure costs they cause, and provide enforceable grid support during emergencies.A 2025 executive order accelerated permitting for qualifying artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and supporting power infrastructure. The White House's 2026 Ratepayer Protection Pledge called on hyperscalers to bring new generation, pay grid costs, and protect existing customers. In October 2025, the Energy Secretary used Section 403 of the Department of Energy Organization Act to ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to consider reforms for loads generally exceeding 20 MW in Docket No. RM26-4-000. FERC declined to impose one national process, instead opening separate Federal Power Act Section 206 proceedings in June 2026 for all six regional transmission organizations (RTOs) and independent system operators (ISOs), Docket Nos. EL26-67-000 through EL26-72-000.The orders question whether existing tariffs are just and reasonable, and identify five reform areas: study procedures, cost-shifting protections, co-location and behind-the-meter generation, flexible transmission service, and generation serving nearby loads.
[evtx_block slug="ep-dpx-26-textblock"]
Texas has responded by requiring large-load customers to shoulder infrastructure costs and by developing curtailment and co-location rules under Senate Bill 6. New York has paused certain hyperscale permits while it develops ratepayer, grid, water, and community protections. Both approaches point toward the same durable result: a power-positive approval pathway that converts legitimate public concerns into measurable design and operating obligations.Other states are building tariffs around that principle. Wisconsin extended its very-large-customer tariff to a 15-year minimum, lowered eligibility to 100 MW, and strengthened cost-shift protections. Long commitments, minimum-demand payments, security requirements, and exit charges are now central project economics. That makes the interconnection agreement co-equal with the engineering, procurement, and construction cont

PERTH, Australia (AP) — British social media celebrity and rapper Yung Filly can return to Britain before he stands trial in Australia next year on charges of raping a fan, a judge ruled on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Columbian-born entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was convicted by a District Court of Western Australia jury last month of ******* aulting a woman in a Perth hotel room in September 2024.
The jury acquitted him on three counts of raping her. But prosecutors said last week they would retry him on another three rape charges on which jurors could not agree.
Barrientos returned Thursday to the court, where Judge Linda Black agreed to change his bail conditions so he can return to London while he waits for his second trial.
Black said although the retrial would be expedited and likely happen in 2027, there could be a delay.

Weitz Investment Management, an investment management firm, released its second-quarter Q2 2026 investor letter for the "Large Cap Equity Fund". A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The Large Cap Equity Fund's Institutional Class posted a return of 7.03% in Q2, trailing the 15.49% return of the Bloomberg U.S. 1000 Index. This disparity arose as equity markets surged amid economic resilience and easing Middle East tensions, while AI-related stock performance soared due to heightened investor interest in "AI bottleneck" beneficiaries, primarily semiconductor firms. Major positions in "hyperscaler" cloud providers yielded mixed results. Risk-on factors like momentum and growth significantly outpaced defensive factors. Despite the current volatility, the Fund maintains its philosophy of investing in quality companies at undervalued prices, believing this strategy will yield improved returns over time. The portfolio held ownership in 30 companies, with the top 10 comprising over half of the portfolio. The price-to-value ratio is in the upper-70s, indicating strong return potential. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Weitz Investment Large Cap Equity Fund highlighted Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL). Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) is a less-than-truckload motor carrier that provides regional, inter-regional, and national less-than-truckload services, as well as expedited transportation. On August 14, 2026, Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) closed at $210.97 per share. One-month return of Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) was 8.91%, and its shares gained 40.30% over the past 52 weeks. Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) has a market capitalization of $43.45 billion.
Weitz Investment Large Cap Equity Fund stated the following regarding Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"We sold the Fund's profitable investment in Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) when the stock traded above our business value estimate. We respect and admire the company's management, culture, and methodical approach to building business value in the competitive trucking industry. While positive developments have been stacking up on several fronts, we think the stock price already reflects a strong volume recovery, robust pricing, and plenty of operating ratio improvement. We would gladly own the stock again at the right price."

Charter operator Global Crossing Airlines has dismissed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Ascent Global Logistics, its one-time largest shareholder, and terminated their exclusive brokerage agreement, ending a saga that contributed to the carrier's persistent difficulty generating business for its cargo fleet.
Miami-based Global Crossing, or GlobalX, sued Ascent Global Logistics on June 4 for $30 million in damages, alleging the former investment partner failed to honor an agreement to steer air cargo business its way and instead ******* igned charter work to USA Jet Airlines, its expedited on-demand freighter subsidiary with a large roster of automotive clients.
Signs quickly emerged that GlobalX (OTCQB: JETMF) got cold feet over fighting a larger partner, but an agreement to drop the lawsuit and settle differences wasn't made official until last week. The companies said they have ended their 2023 exclusive brokerage agreement. GlobalX has also agreed to payment terms for amounts owed to Ascent, according to a joint news release.
Payment terms were not disclosed, but it was publicly known that Ascent demanded the remaining $1.94 million balance of a $2.5 million prepayment to GlobalX to provide cargo flights to its customers. GlobalX claimed that Ascent, headquartered in Belleville, Michigan, only referred a handful of flights over a three-year period.
Most of GlobalX's business comes from contract flying for professional and college sports teams, the Department of Homeland Security, and other groups. But the startup company also controls four Airbus A321 narrowbody converted freighters that have never been able to deliver consistent cargo business, partly due to Ascent's efforts to stymie GlobalX in the North American regional market.

But the startup company also controls four Airbus A321 narrowbody converted freighters that have never been able to deliver consistent cargo business, partly due to Ascent's efforts to stymie GlobalX in the North American regional market.

In what could be her first step on the road back to the U.S. Open, Serena Williams played tennis on U.S. soil for the first time in nearly four years Monday, teaming with her sister Venus in doubles at the Cincinnati Open. The sisters looked rusty in a first-round match against Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns, losing 6-2, 1-6, 1-0(8).
It was just Williams' fourth match, and her first on a hard court, since she opened the second chapter of her illustrious career earlier this summer. Four years after saying she was "evolving away" from tennis after the 2022 U.S. Open, the 23-time Grand Slam champion began her comeback on grass in June, pairing with Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko to win a doubles match at Queen's in London and ending her expedited grass-court season with a first-round singles loss at Wimbledon to the Australian Maya Joint in three tight sets.
The Williams sisters, who together have won 14 Grand Slam doubles ****** les, were supposed to team up for doubles at Wimbledon but had to withdraw before their first match because of a knee injury that Serena, 44, picked up playing Joint.
Serena Williams hasn't yet announced her plans — for singles and either of the doubles events — for the U.S. Open later this month, but if she decides she is fit enough to play, the opportunity is there for her to follow the same playbook that she used ahead of Wimbledon and contest a couple of doubles matches before taking to the singles court. The U.S. Open is holding three wild-card entries open for its lid-lifting mixed doubles tournament, the field for which was announced Monday, which could allow Williams the opportunity to get more matches under her belt. The U.S. Open's main draw singles event begins Aug. 31.
On Monday, Williams looked to be moving well in a first set that was understandably sluggish considering her lack of recent matches.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever wasted no time in appealing Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul of the season — one that, if upheld, means she will be suspended for the Fever's game Tuesday against the New York Liberty.
Typically, teams need to wait for a memo, which usually comes a day or two after a game, detailing the calls and fines from a game in order to appeal a technical foul. But that isn't necessarily a formal process.
And Fever GM Amber ***** expedited that process by sending an appeal before Fever players made it to the media room for the postgame news conference.
"It's already appealed," Clark said. "... I just hope the league makes the right decision, and hopefully I can play on Tuesday."

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) sent a "Dear Colleague" letter to Democrats warning that privatizing Social Security or passing the Protecting Retirement Opportunities and Maintaining Income Security for Everyone, or PROMISE Act, would result in a breakdown of trust among Democratic voters during a key midterm election year.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Sanders sent the letter, which called on the Democratic caucus to make it "abundantly clear that under no circumstances will we support legislation that cuts Social Security benefits, raises the retirement age, reduces Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLAs), or privatizes this essential program." It was first reported by Politico.
The PROMISE Act would create a procedure through which the bipartisan Social Security Advisory Board (SSAB) would make recommendations to Congress to achieve a period of Social Security solvency for 50 years.
Sanders criticized the bill because the SSAB is an "unelected commission," and its expedited timeline falls before the midterm elections. He said it would be "absurd, anti-democratic and unacceptable" to decide the fate of Social Security so close to midterm elections.
Sanders alternatively proposed cutting caps on Social Security income taxes, while pointing out that ****** eX CEO Elon Musk pays the same amount to the program as someone earning $184,500 a year.

Mobile payment apps such as Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App have grown in popularity in recent years. More than three-quarters of Americans have used these types of apps to send or receive money from individuals.
Yet despite the convenience and growing use of P2P apps, there are risks you should be aware of as well. In particular, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) warns consumers that storing cash in apps like PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo is a habit you should avoid. Here's why.
A peer-to-peer payment app is a type of digital payment platform that allows you to transfer money to another individual using a mobile device or computer. When you register for a P2P service, you start by connecting your bank account, credit card, or digital wallet. From there, you can send or receive cash to other users who are registered with the same P2P service.
Depending on the P2P payment app, you may incur fees when you send money. Other services may charge you fees to transfer funds to your bank account — especially if an international transfer is involved. Many P2P apps, however, offer free payment options for sending cash between friends and family members. Non-expedited domestic bank transfers may be free as well, depending on the app.

The Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator search began when Jeff Hafley, who coordinated the defense for two seasons, joined the Miami Dolphins as the head coach in January. At the time, sources reported the Packers had agreed to terms with Gannon on January 25, 2026, and the hire was officially announced on February 2nd, with LaFleur saying he was “thrilled” to add someone with Gannon’s experience as both a coordinator and a head coach.
LaFleur was intrigued by Gannon specifically because of the difficulty he’d had game-planning against his defenses when Green Bay faced the Eagles in 2022 and the Cardinals in 2024 and 2025 — the interview ran a day and a half, and the hiring was expedited. A source told ESPN that LaFleur “loved the fact that Gannon has sat in the head coach’s chair” — making him the fourth defensive coordinator of LaFleur’s eight seasons in Green Bay, following Mike Pettine, Joe Barry, and Hafley.
Over the following seven weeks, Green Bay completed a broader defensive overhaul: trading Rashan Gary to Dallas for a 2027 fourth-round pick on March 11th, signing Javon Hargrave to a two-year, $23M deal on March 13th, and finalizing the full coaching staff by March 19.
Jonathan Gannon comes over from a 3-year head coaching stint with the Arizona Cardinals, a job he took after coordinating the Eagles defense for two seasons, including one trip to the Super Bowl.
He had arrived in Philadelphia in 2021 as an unheralded defensive coordinator hire, a then 38-year-old who had spent his career as a defensive backs coach under Mike Zimmer in Minnesota and Matt Eberflus in Indianapolis. He had never called a defense at any level. What unfolded over his two seasons with the Eagles was a study in how scheme can be maximized by talent — and how devastating the absence of that talent can be.

Section 280E forces U.S. cannabis operators to pay effective tax rates above 70%, an existential burden that a move to Schedule III would immediately eliminate.
MSOS rallied 99% on rescheduling hopes, but prediction markets price just 18% odds by July, and TLRY has shed 97% from its peak.
Act now: the **** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Tilray Brands didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
While cannabis investors finally have an expedited DEA administrative hearing on the calendar and a fresh Schedule III pathway in motion, Wall Street has stood at this exact intersection before. The pure-play U.S. cannabis proxy, AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF (NYSEARCA: MSOS), has vaulted 99.2% over the trailing year on rescheduling hope, yet still trades 81.0% below its September 2020 launch price. The pattern of euphoria followed by collapse has been the only consistent feature of this trade.
The catalyst this time around centers on Section 280E. That single line of the tax code denies cannabis sellers the ordinary business deductions every other operator takes for granted, taxing them on gross profit rather than net income, and pushing effective tax rates above 70% for U.S. multi-state operators. A move from Schedule I to Schedule III would remove that burden. The DEA's expedited hearing began June 29, 2026, with a conclusion targeted for mid-July and a potential final rule in the Federal Register to follow.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to resume carrying out speedy deportations of undocumented migrants throughout the United States, not just near the border.
A divided three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit threw out a lower court decision that temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's expanded use of expedited removal. The ruling was a big victory for the Republican administration, which views the expansion of so-called expedited removal as a key tool for carrying out its mass deportation policy.
Expedited removal — quick deportation without a chance to appear before a judge — has previously been applied to migrants arriving by sea or caught at or near the border shortly after crossing.
In January, Trump expanded its use to undocumented migrants all over the United States. Immigration agents began whisking migrants away from courthouses where they had gone for immigration proceedings and then removing them from the country within days.
"The Trump administration's push for fast-track deportations will subject people to an unfair and error-prone system," Anand Balakrishnan, senior staff attorney with the ACLU's Immigrants' Rights Project, said in a statement.

Bell Global Equities Fund, managed by Bell ******* et Management, released its latest investor update, available for download. March saw heightened volatility due to the Middle East conflict, with the MSCI World ex Australia Index falling 2.5% and the Bell Global Equities Fund (Wholesale class) declining 3.1%. The portfolio's underweight in Energy was the primary headwind to relative performance, compounded by poor stock selection in Communication Services, Health, and Energy. A tentative ceasefire in early April has helped stabilize sentiment and reverse some March declines. Future market trends depend on the ceasefire's durability and how ongoing energy supply disruptions affect inflation and growth through 2026. In addition, the ongoing AI disruption narrative is significantly influencing market behavior, causing indiscriminate selling across various sectors. The recent weakness appears to be sentiment-driven rather than fundamental deterioration, thus creating opportunities.
