ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas starter Cody Bradford pitched 4 1/3 effective innings in his first appearance since September 2024, and Justin Foscue's two-run triple highlighted a four-run third inning as the Rangers beat the San Francisco Giants 6-0 on Wednesday.
Bradford worked around traffic in all but the third inning of his first outing in 679 days following elbow surgery in June 2025. The left-hander allowed five hits and two walks, throwing 70 pitches.
Reliever Tyler Alexander (2-2) got the final two outs of the fifth, leaving two runners on. Alexander struck out three in 1 2/3 innings.
The Rangers (57-58) won the last two games after dropping Monday's series opener, their season-worst sixth straight loss. The AL West leaders by two games on July 28, they trail first-place Houston by 1 1/2 games.
The Giants (48-67) fell 19 games under .500 for the first time this season, having lost seven consecutive road series. They left 11 men on base, going 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Bradford City have signed former Everton defender Reece Welch on a two-year deal after a successful trial.
The 6ft 6in 22-year-old came through the Toffees' academy and made three first-team appearances before being released at the end of last season.
He could make his competitive debut for the Bantams in Saturday's Carabao Cup first-round tie against Rochdale.
"We believe he has the potential to be a top player, and we will work hard with him to fulfil it," boss Graham Alexander told the club website.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cody Bradford is set Wednesday to make his first start for the Texas Rangers since the end of the 2024 season in the left-hander's comeback from elbow surgery.
Manager Skip Schumaker said after the Rangers' 5-4 win over San Francisco on Tuesday night that Bradford will start the finale in that series Wednesday afternoon instead of making another rehab start.
Bradford was part of the Rangers' only World Series ***** le as a rookie in 2023, when he was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in five relief appearances during the playoffs. He was 4-3 with a 5.30 in 20 regular-season games (eight starts).
His return to the mound for the Rangers will come a day after they snapped a season-worst six-game losing streak that dropped them out of the lead in the AL West. It also came after the trade deadline passed Monday without Texas adding any starting pitchers.
The Rangers are also awaiting the season debut of left-hander Jordan Montgomery, another key piece of the championship run. He returned to Texas in free agency this spring while rehabbing from a second elbow reconstruction surgery.

Ed Sheeran has been fined for failing to insure his Aston Martin as it undergoes restoration.
The British singer-songwriter was handed the penalty by Bradford Magistrates' Court after his 1966 Aston Martin was mistakenly left uninsured while being converted into an electric vehicle.
Sheeran sent the silver car to Aston Workshop Ltd for restoration in 2021 and claims he has not driven it since.
However, in December last year, the DVLA flagged that the Shape of You hitmaker had failed to pay for insurance on the vehicle while it was being refurbished.
In response, Sheeran told the court by letter that he believed the workshop's insurance covered the car and that the Aston Martin had not been on the road for five years.
The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to keeping a motor vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements.

Ed Sheeran has been convicted and fined for failing to insure his classic Aston Martin while it was being restored and converted to an electric car.
The singer-songwriter sent the the silver 1966 model for an overhaul in 2021, but in December 2025 the DVLA spotted Sheeran had not paid for insurance while restoration work was under way.
Sheeran, 35, told Bradford Magistrates' Court on Friday by letter that he believed the workshop's insurance covered his car and the Aston Martin had not been on the road for the past five years.
But he pleaded guilty to keeping a motor vehicle which does not meet insurance requirements and was ordered to pay a £666 fine, £100 costs and a £266 victim surcharge.
Sheeran was prosecuted by the DVLA in a behind closed doors hearing and submitted a letter of explanation to accompany his guilty plea.

The Oklahoma Sooners have a total of seven Heisman Trophy winners in the program's storied history. Running backs Billy Vessels (1952), Steve Owens (1969), and Billy Sims (1978) took home the coveted award in the 20th century, while quarterbacks Jason White (2003), Sam Bradford (2008), Baker Mayfield (2017), and Kyler Murray (2018) captured the trophy in the 21st century.
However, the last time OU had a player finish the season as a Heisman finalist came in 2019. That means Oklahoma has yet to have a Heisman finalist in the Brent Venables era.
One ESPN **** yst thinks that could all change this season. Jordan Rodgers highlighted his top five Heisman Trophy candidates coming into the season, and he placed OU starting quarterback John Mateer at No. 5 on his list. Mateer finished behind Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss, Texas QB Arch Manning, Indiana QB Josh Hoover, and Ohio State QB Julian Sayin.
"He's gonna be 100% healthy," Rodgers said. "When he is, he's one of the more dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the country ... John Mateer's gonna put up massive numbers."
Of course, Mateer was the Heisman Trophy favorite through the first month of the season last year, but his broken hand derailed that train. His play dropped off after having surgery, and he couldn't place the ball the same way he had in September.

Magic Johnson is optimistic about the Los Angeles Lakers' summer rebuild following LeBron James' departure.
The Lakers have signed seven new players, including two draft picks, to build around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
These include former Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler and ex-Toronto Raptors forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.
However, Johnson appears most pleased with the Lakers' one-year, $3.3 million signing of Matisse Thybulle.

"It's the injuries" is a common excuse for why the A's, once 38-38 and in the thick of a weak AL West race, have cratered, fallen, and can't get up. "Wait until we're back at full strength" is a commonly heard game plan for letting a season in which 2 games over .500 gets you 1st place at the All-Star break slip away in a slow but deadly implosion.
Without question the A's have missed, when out, Jacob Wilson and Zack Gelof, Tyler Soderstrom and Luis Severino, even Brent Rooker though he never got his season untracked. At the same time, no one in the division is feeling too sorry for the A's just because they have not been at full strength and have been without some key cogs.
The Mariners were without Cal Raleigh for a long stretch and Brendan Donovan last played on May 13th. The Rangers were long absent Wyatt Langford, lost Corey Seager to an IL stint, and Cody Bradford has yet to throw a pitch all season. The Astros were without Jeremy Peña for 5 weeks while Carlos Correa is out for the season and Hunter Brown only recently rejoined the rotation. The difference is that these teams weathered their adversity enough to win roughly half their games.
Here are some truths that better explain why the A's sit at 41-55 at the All-Star break when even just 48-48 would have served them quite well…

The Seattle Seahawks' offensive line showcased terrific growth in 2025. That improvement was a massive reason why the Seahawks won Super Bowl 60. Heading into the 2026 NFL season, we've ranked all four offensive lines in the NFC West division from best to worst.
The Seahawks' offensive line was a legitimate ***** et last season and they return all five starters in 2026. Position coach John Benton was also retained despite offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak leaving for the Las Vegas Raiders. From left to right, Charles Cross, Grey Zabel, Jalen Sundell, Anthony Bradford and Abe Lucas should form a formidable starting five once again.
Future Hall of Fame left tackle Trent Williams returns to the San Francisco 49ers after an offseason contract dispute. Dominick Puni has already signed a lucrative extension and the 49ers have an answer at right tackle in Colton McKivitz. This is a well-balanced unit for Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey.
The Los Angeles Rams have two high-quality guards in Steve Avila and Kevin Dotson. Both tackle spots are questionable (Alaric Jackson, Warren McClendon Jr.). The Rams are a complete roster, but the offensive line has some question marks.
Paris Johnson Jr. has developed into a franchise left tackle for the Arizona Cardinals. They also just drafted starting right guard Chase Bisontis with an early second-round pick. The Cardinals are getting better on the offensive line, but they are still a rebuilding unit.

ESPN ****** yst names Guardians 'real' MVP as trio of relievers, not Parker Messick originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Guardians are 47-45 in the regular season, and just 1.0 game back of the Chicago White Sox for the AL Central lead.
While this season hasn't exactly gone to plan, especially on offense, the pitching staff has been incredible. Parker Messick is a legitimate Cy Young candidate this season, and ESPN ****** yst Bradford Doolittle named Messick the "First-half MVP" this season.
However, in the same breath as calling Messick the team MVP, Doolittle also identified three relievers - Cade Smith, Colin Holderman, and Erick Sabrowski - as the "real" MVP.
"First-half MVP: Parker Messick (126 AXE). Messick has been fantastic," Doolittle writes. "... Still, the real MVP in Cleveland has been the high-leverage contingent of its bullpen, led by Cade Smith, Colin Holderman, and Erik Sabrowski."

Why Cristopher Sanchez is still Phillies' team MVP despite awful start vs. Royals originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Phillies have had a wild 2026 season, as they came back from 9-19 to being 51-41, and just 2.0 games out of the NL East division lead. But the individual players are the story for the Phillies this season.
Bryce Harper's return to being elite, Brandon Marsh being an All-Star, Kyle Schwarber's home-run leading season, and Zack Wheeler's incredible return from injury are all great. Cristopher Sanchez turning into a Cy Young caliber ace is the best story so far.
Bradford Doolittle of ESPN called Sanchez the first-half MVP for the Phillies, and that's even with his awful start against the Kansas City Royals in mind. The reason why he's the MVP and not any other star is simple: his body of work this season is just that impressive.
"First-half MVP: Cristopher Sanchez (139 AXE)," Doolittle writes. "This updated AXE includes Sanchez's head-scratching shellacking Monday at Kansas City, an egg-laying that bolstered Jacob Misiorowski's front-runner status in the Cy Young conversation."

Seattle Seahawks starting right guard Anthony Bradford is entering a contract year. The current expectation is that he won't be signed to an extension next summer, meaning the Seahawks will have a new starter in 2027. The team once hoped 2024 third-round pick Christian Haynes would be his in-house replacement, but that ship has seemingly sailed.
In two underwhelming seasons, Haynes has failed to dethrone Bradford as the starter despite expectations being low. There's no competition this year. Haynes has fallen considerably behind Bradford on the depth chart, firmly being seen as a backup.
Furthermore, the Seahawks drafted rookie guard Beau Stephens with a fifth-round pick this offseason. It's extremely telling regarding how they feel about Haynes. Many are now positioning Stephens to be the future starter at right guard once Bradford is gone.
It seems like Haynes is one of John Schneider's rare draft misses. Now entering the third season of his four-year rookie contract, and with Stephens in the fold, you wonder if Haynes is being viewed as expendable. Is the former UConn guard even guaranteed to make the 53-man roster?
Haynes probably makes the roster, but the Seahawks should seriously consider trading him if a decent offer arises. Haynes was given every opportunity to become a starter in Seattle, but he failed to take advantage of his chances. The Seahawks are shifting attention towards Stephens possibly being Bradford's eventual replacement.

Roman Anthony is tired of watching games from the bench and not being on the field as he recovers from a finger injury.
"It's been a long, long slow process," the Red Sox outfielder told WEEI's Rob Bradford on the "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast. "Everything sucks, to be honest. The team leaves on the road, and it's like, 'Dang, I miss being around the guys.' You have two days where you feel like it's encouraging, then you have a really (expletive) two days, and you're like, 'Oh, man, where am I at?'"
Anthony tore a ligament near the base of his right ring finger in May during an at-bat against the Detroit Tigers. It was originally thought he'd avoid the injured list, but the 22-year-old is now on the 60-day IL as he continues to rehab.
The progression has been slowdue to the pain he continues to feel. Anthony admitted it's been disappointing, but is learning a lot in the process.

When Ohio State signed its 2026 recruiting class, most of the attention naturally gravitated toward the household names.
Players like Chris Henry Jr, Blaine Bradford, Sam Greer, Khary Wilder, and Cincere Johnson generated much of the excitement among Buckeye fans, and for good reason. They were highly ranked prospects with national recruiting battles attached to their commitments.
Yet one of the most intriguing players in the entire class may have quietly flown under the radar. Cornerback Jordan Thomas arrives in Columbus as a four-star prospect from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey, one of the nation’s premier high school football programs.
Ranked as the No. 12 cornerback and No. 103 overall player nationally in the 247Sports Composite, Thomas was a major recruiting win for Tim Walton and Ohio State. The Buckeyes beat out programs such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Oregon, and many others for his commitment, and it is easy to understand why they made him such a priority.
At 6-foot-1 and nearly 190 pounds with an eye popping 78-inch wingspan, Thomas already possesses the type of physical profile NFL scouts search for in modern outside cornerbacks. Length cannot be taught, and few defensive backs in the country entered college with the combination of size, reach, and natural athleticism that Thomas brings to Columbus.

Everton say goodbye to another young player from the Academy as Coby Ebere leaves Finch Farm having secured a 3-year deal with Serbian side FK Cukaricki.
Coby Ebere is a fast, powerful, and highly skillful attacker who joined the Everton Academy at the age of 11. Born in Germany, he moved to England in 2017 and steadily progressed through the Finch Farm youth ranks. Though he predominantly operates out wide as an inverted left winger, his physical stature and finishing ability also allow him to lead the line as a central striker.
Everton tied Ebere down to his first professional contract in September 2022. Following consistent development and a transition into the Under-21 setup, the club announced a subsequent two-year contract extension in July 2025, securing his future at Goodison Park/Finch Farm until June 2027.

Leigh Leopards centre Jack Hughes will miss the Super League club's next three matches after picking up a suspension for a Grade E offence.
The charge of unnecessary contact with a player who is injured or may be injured occurred in the Leopards' 38-12 win at Bradford Bulls.
Hughes, 34, will now miss the trips to Hull KR and Toulouse and the Magic Weekend fixture with Warrington Wolves on 4 July.
He is the only player to be banned for incidents in round 14 of the Super League season, with nine other players also charged by the match review committee.

Manchester United have reportedly reached a major call over the future of striker Ethan Wheatley as Schalke line up a summer swoop.
Wheatley spent the first half of the 2025/26 season out on loan at Northampton Town before United recalled him and sent him out to Bradford for the latter half of the campaign.
He took time to find his feet at Northampton under now-sacked boss Kevin Nolan but he eventually established himself as a key member of the squad. It’s understood that United considered his time at Northampton a success but felt his development would be better aided by going elsewhere.
Nolan was highly critical of United’s decision to recall the youngster just when he was finding his rhythm.
At Bradford, Wheatley also featured prominently, although he didn’t score as many goals as he would have liked. He finished the season with three goals in 37 games across all competitions.

Not many programs can walk into Louisiana, go head-to-head with LSU for an elite defensive back, and come away with a commitment. That is exactly why landing Blaine Bradford was such a significant recruiting victory.
For years, Baton Rouge has been one of the most difficult places in the country for outside programs to win major recruiting battles. Louisiana consistently produces elite defensive back talent, and more often than not, those players end up staying home and playing for LSU. When the Tigers make a prospect a priority, especially an in-state blue-chip defender, they rarely lose.
Yet, Ohio State not only entered the race for Bradford, but they won it. Bradford arrived in Columbus as one of the highest-rated defensive backs in his recruiting class. Recruiting services viewed him as one of the top safeties in America, with some rankings placing him as the No. 1 safety prospect nationally. At roughly 6-foot-1 and 209 pounds, Bradford already possesses the frame that NFL teams covet at the position. He combines size, physicality, range, and football intelligence in a package that projects exceptionally well to the modern game.
The reality is that Buckeye fans probably will not see much of him this season, and that is perfectly fine. In fact, that may be exactly how Ohio State wants it.
The biggest obstacle standing between Bradford and immediate playing time is not talent. It is an opportunity. Ohio State enters 2026 with one of the deepest and most experienced defensive back rooms in the country. Veterans such as Terry Moore, Earl Little Jr, Jaylen McLain, and even Leroy Roker give Matt Patricia and Matt Guerrieri plenty of proven options in the secondary.
