Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards has described the decision to cancel Ski Sunday as a "huge blow" and believes it could harm Britain's progress in winter sports.
The BBC announced on Tuesday that the programme, which was first broadcast in 1978 and aired on Sunday evenings during the winter, had become the latest victim of its cost-saving measures.
Edwards, who appeared on the programme in the 1980s during his rise to fame as Britain's first Olympic ski jumper, told BBC Breakfast: "This is a huge blow.
"For many people it used to be the only programme to watch our winter athletes. It's very, very sad news.
"As soon as that theme tune came on, I used to run as a teenager to the front room to watch Ski Sunday. It kept me going, it made skiing so exciting for me and I absolutely loved it."

Outhomering the Dodgers five to zip, the Cardinals had no trouble controlling this game right from the jump in a 13-8 blowout win. For the first time since joining the Dodgers, Eric Lauer delivered a bad enough start at home that helps illustrate why he was available in the first place, ready to be scooped up by one of baseball's strongest teams. Lauer ran into all kinds of issues, first crushed by the long ball and then dealing with a massive rally courtesy of nothing but singles, walks, and an HBP.
The bottom of the Cardinals' order first gave Lauer problems, with Ramón Urías and Thomas Saggese demolishing fastballs in the middle to upper part of the zone to leave the yard in back-to-back at-bats in the second. Saggese, in particular, was on an inspired night, later also crushing his second homer in the game to triple his total (1) before the start of play. Equally not known for his pop, Urías hit what was only his fourth long ball this season.
Still, both of those were solo shots, and only trailing 2-0, Lauer had a path to find himself once again, but in the third inning, it all quickly unraveled for the veteran southpaw. Six of the inning's first seven hitters reached safely; a little later, Nathan Church drove in the Cards' seventh run on an infield single—the runner from first was thrown out trying to go to third on the play, ending the inning with the score 7-0.
A seven-run deficit is a daunting challenge to overcome, but with six innings still to go, the Dodgers had nothing but time, and for a brief moment it looked like they'd get back into it. Back-to-back walks by Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman loaded the bases with two outs in front of Mookie Betts. And probably with more luck than skill, Betts cleared the bags on a fly ball to right that likely should've been caught but was aberrantly misplayed by the Cardinals' defense. The scoring in that inning stopped there, and as much as the end product was promising, you couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated at the lack of thump—by the end of three frames, the Dodgers had three runs and just two hits.
Understanding full well who they were going up against, the Cardinals made it so that the Dodgers weren't able to gain much momentum by scoring two of their own in the following frame to make it 10-3. Looking to get in on the fun alongside the bottom of the order, Jordan Walker took Alex Vesia deep in the fourth for a two-run shot, as Lauer got the hook after three dreadful innings of work.

This is an unexpected turn of events, given that the two clubs had reached a renegotiated agreement worth around €50m, after the English club had expressed their doubts to their French counterparts about the deal going through.

Alfredo Pedulla reported earlier today that the Giallorossi made a fresh push for the German, who had previously not given a greenlight to the deal. Roma had earlier reached an agreement with Stuttgart but the player's decision had held the move back.
Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has reported updates, making it clear that there isn't enough time to complete the deal.
Roma were anyway facing a race against time to seal the move. But now, there is certainty the versatile winger will stay at the German club.

The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't blow up anything after getting swept by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, and I think that was the right call, because this team was already pretty close. Cleveland finished 52-30, ranked sixth in offensive rating at 119.2, and reached its first Conference Finals since 2018, so the answer wasn't starting over, it was finding better pieces around a core that still has the talent to win the East.
The front office basically doubled down on that idea during the summer. Donovan Mitchell signed a four-year, $273.0 million extension, James Harden came back on a three-year, $97.0 million deal after arriving for Darius Garland at the deadline, and the Cavaliers made their biggest outside move by landing Peyton Watson in a five-team sign-and-trade. Max Strus, Dennis Schroder, Dean Wade, and Keon Ellis are among the players gone, while Mario Hezonja also returned to the NBA after several seasons in Europe.
That leaves Cleveland with a very clear bet for 2026-27: The Big Four have to be good enough to carry most of this. There isn't another superstar coming, and they have the pieces to win, because Mitchell averaged almost 28 points last season, Harden can still run an elite offense, Mobley is entering his prime, and Allen remains one of the better centers in the East.
The problem is that we already saw this group hit a wall in the playoffs. Cleveland scored only 107.9 points per game during the postseason, Harden dropped to 19.2 points and 5.5 **** ists while shooting 29.9% from three, and the Knicks beat them by 37 points in Game 4 to finish the sweep.

For seemingly forever, the U.S. women have dominated the international game. They've won an unprecedented eight consecutive Olympic gold medals, and nine of the last 12 World Cups. The last game they lost at the Olympics or World Cup — not the ***** le, just a game — was back in 2006, before Caitlin Clark had even started grade school.

One step forward, no steps back.
That's about how Alabama football offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb summed up the most fundamental way for the Crimson Tide rushing attack to improve in 2026: eliminate negative plays.
"I thought one of our biggest sins last year was the number of negative yardage runs that we had," Grubb said Monday. "You know, for us, just the availability of keeping the ball consistently moving forward and eliminating the negative yardage runs is going to be step one. And that's a very low bar."
A low bar indeed, but one UA too often failed to clear in 2025. Crimson Tide running backs got caught in the backfield plenty, even if sack yardage accounted for most rushing losses in official statistics. The Seattle Seahawks concluded their final rounds of roster cuts following their 9-9 preseason finale tie against the Kansas City Chiefs. They have also officially set their 53-man roster as they gear up to take on the New England Patriots to kick off the 2026 NFL season in Week 1. Unfortunately, the reason for this is because the Seahawks have placed their otherwise presumed starting running back Zach Charbonnet on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. This is unsurprising, considering Charbonnet suffered his ACL injury during the 41-6 blowout victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Given how late in the season this occurred, the beginning of the season was always going to be off the table for Charbonnet. Still, it's a cold splash of reality to see it actually come to fruition.
Charbonnet was one of the more critical, yet perhaps a little underrated, cogs in the Seahawks' offensive machine last season. The former UCLA product had 730 rushes and 12 rushing touchdowns. The Cubs celebrated 150 years since becoming a National League franchise before Sunday's game, with many of the team's icons present.
Then the current Cubs put on an offensive show, with its newest potential franchise player, Pete Crow-Armstrong, solidifying his claim on this year's National League MVP award. PCA hit three home runs, also singled, and had a chance at a fourth homer in the eighth inning. He got a standing ovation after grounding out against a Reds position player in that at-bat, and how often do you see that?
Alex Bregman, Carson Kelly and Seiya Suzuki also homered for the Cubs and all of that helped the team to a 17-5 blowout of the Reds.
