Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX), known as ******* eX, is ready to explore the cosmos. At least that's what CEO Elon Musk wants investors to understand.
"The mission is to make life multiplanetary, to extend consciousness beyond Earth and understand the universe," Musk explained in August. "For me, being a ******* efaring civilization is the most interesting thing we could possibly do for the future."
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Here's the catch: ******* eX won't be establishing a multiplanetary civilization anytime soon. Before it pursues those goals in earnest, it will need to execute on two key growth pillars that will grant ******* eX the funding and mandate to move beyond Earth and its immediate surroundings.
SpaceX's revenue nearly doubled year over year last quarter, surprising ******* ysts. The company, however, still posted a net loss of $541 million. The company's only segment to generate an operating profit was its Starlink satellite network.

With Elon Musk's ***** eX now embedded in the Nasdaq 100, the prospects of the rocket company have–directly or indirectly–now slipped into the stock portfolios of millions of people around the globe.

But joining the Nasdaq index has done little to convince critics, who are dubious about the lofty aims of the company. In the prospectus ahead of its offering, ***** eX said its goal is "to build the systems and technologies necessary to make life multiplanetary, to understand the true nature of the universe, and to extend the light of consciousness to the stars."

Such statements will be laughable to investors of the future, says Jeremy Grantham, co-founder of investment giant GMO. Admittedly, the billionaire British investor is known for his skepticism: He's a self-professed "permabear" and has warned AI's impact will result in "blood in the streets."
It is perhaps no surprise, then, that he is unimpressed by the (literally) out-of-this-world intentions of ***** eX. "Everyone's lining up to tell you to buy the craziest IPO in the history of man," Grantham told Morningstar's The Long View podcast in an episode released this morning, "In 50 years, they'll be telling and writing stories about ***** eX, and they'll be quoting you paragraphs from the prospectus, and you will be laughing at it."
Even the most bullish of investors might be feeling a reality check since ***** eX launched. At the time of writing, ***** eX is down 7% over the past month, hovering at around $150 a share—only slightly ahead of the $135 it targeted at launch.
Wall Street is split on how high ***** eX can fly, though they generally agree it will soar: Morgan Stanley, for example, has reportedly set the price target at $300, while Goldman Sachs's Eric Sheridan and team wrote in a note seen by Fortune that they see it closer to $205.
Sentiments among ***** ysts are, generally, positive. J.P. Morgan wrote that its target is $225 , adding it believes Elon Musk's goal of reaching $1 trillion of revenue by 2031 is possible "but requires strong execution across an ambitious timeline."

It didn't take long for ***** e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX), popularly known as ***** eX, to make a major move after its initial public offering. Fresh off raising $86 billion from the IPO, it announced that it's acquiring Anysphere, the developer of the AI-powered code editor Cursor. It's a $60 billion purchase that will be paid for entirely in new shares of ***** eX stock, and it's expected to close in the third quarter. Here's why that's a big deal, and what it means for shareholders.
There are various reasons investors are enthusiastic about ***** eX, but its artificial intelligence (AI) business probably doesn't top the list. People are excited about Elon Musk, his vision for a multiplanetary humanity, ***** e travel, and even the Starlink satellite broadband business. But ***** eX only acquired xAI -- the part of the company that holds its AI segment -- earlier this year, and while it generated $818 million in revenue in 2026's first quarter, it also reported a $2.5 billion operating loss.

However, an investment in ***** eX really is an investment in AI. Musk and Co. view the company as having what they say is "the largest actionable total addressable market in human history" -- $28.5 trillion.
And if you think that's all based on ***** e and satellites, it's actually nearly all based on their outlook for AI. The company ***** erts that it has $26.5 trillion in AI opportunities, and $22.7 trillion of that is in "enterprise applications."

The much-anticipated **** eX (NASDAQ: SPCX) initial public offering has taken place, marking the biggest IPO in history and giving many retail investors their first chance to invest in one of three major U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) start-ups likely to publicly list their stock this year.
The excitement is understandable -- **** eX raised more capital than all the IPOs in 2025 put together. It's also promising orbiting data centers, **** e tourism, and cargo transport to Mars.

The momentum behind all these ambitious goals will be hard to sustain, and **** eX's stock price will likely fall in the coming weeks or months as enthusiasm wanes. Many of the claims and proposals made by **** eX's CEO, Elon Musk, are hard to quantify or prove. Minor upsets can quickly erode conviction when investing is based on speculation. Ultimately, **** eX is a risky long-term investment that's trading on short-term hype.
SpaceX has a pretty big vision to build infrastructure that will support multiplanetary life. The realities of delivering new, untested technologies can be unpredictable and expensive, and that's going to make **** eX volatile.
