The debate is set to continue as to exactly how many goals Alexander Isak scored in Liverpool's 3-2 defeat to Monaco on Sunday afternoon.
The Swedish striker opened the scoring at Anfield on the quarter-hour mark with a clinical low finish past Lukas Hradecky, although the identity of the goalscorer for the Reds' second strike of the day was much harder to ascertain.
A rather untidy goalmouth scramble in the 29th minute resulted in the ball being prodded to the visitors' net from close range, with both the £125m man and Florian Wirtz going for it as they sought to poke it over the goalline.
Some reporters ultimately credited the second goal to Isak, although the match report on the official Liverpool website gave it to the Germany international.
When asked to clear up who exactly got the final touch, the Reds' number 9 was unable to give a definite answer, telling liverpoolfc.com: "I think we agreed, me and Flo, that we both got a touch on the ball, but obviously I don't know who got the first one or the last one. It felt like I was on the ball. I don't really know."

Curtis Jones was a standout omission from the Liverpool squad which faced Monaco in a friendly at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Andoni Iraola handed game-time to 22 players as, for the second weekend in a row, the Reds let a 2-0 lead slip to end up tasting defeat, having been beaten 4-2 from a similar position against Leeds seven days ago.
The 25-year-old – who was involved in a seemingly tetchy exchange with Dominik Szoboszlai over the captaincy during the pre-season win over Wrexham in late July – has been the subject of rumoured transfer interest from Inter Milan, and his absence from the team sheet today was notable.
Just over an hour prior to kick-off on Sunday, Fabrizio Romano took to X with an explanation as to why Jones didn't feature for Liverpool this afternoon.
The Italian posted: 'Curtis Jones, out of Liverpool squad today as he's not even on the bench. #LFC informs it's precaution for the midfielder still wanted by Inter (priority target) and more clubs this summer.'

Aug. 6—There's hardly been an offseason that's passed in Champaign without some word out of Ubben Basketball Complex about the next Illinois team playing faster. Has it actually happened? Not always.
Last year's Illini ranked 288th nationally in adjusted tempo, per Bart Torvik. Was Illinois quick into actions once it got into its halfcourt offense? Sure. Quick getting up and down the court? Not quite.
The 2024-25 Illini ranked highest in tempo, checking in at 17th nationally, but Underwood's Illinois teams have run the gamut in that metric. Last year's was the slowest, but for good reason.
Keaton Wagler dictated pace for Illinois in 2025-26. The freshman guard was at his best in a halfcourt setting, so that's how the Illini played.
"Keaton was elite in ball screens," Underwood said. "We were No. 1 in the country, he was, in points on ball screens. We figured that out pretty quick that he was very good at that."

Mohamed Salah's next move now appears settled, with Trabzonspor effectively confirming the arrival of the former Liverpool forward after days of growing expectation. As first reported and discussed by Liverpool.com, the Turkish side have moved into the open, releasing travel details before any formal unveiling.
For a player of Salah's stature, the process has been unusually public. Yet the message from Trabzonspor leaves very little room for doubt. Addressing supporters directly, the club said: "Professional footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Atatürk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5 (tomorrow)." It added: "The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours. The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club's official communication channels during the day."
LFC Website
The wording stops short of a final contract announcement, though in practical terms this is as close to confirmation as it gets. Trabzonspor had already posted that discussions were under way and then followed that with a teaser carrying Egyptian imagery, signalling clearly where the story was heading.
Salah has been a free agent since leaving Liverpool earlier this summer after waiving the final year of his deal. Since then, there has been no shortage of interest or noise around the market. Saudi Arabia remained an obvious talking point because of long-running admiration, while Major League Soccer was mentioned in some quarters as another possible route.

One trusted Liverpool reporter has seemingly hinted that the Reds' pursuit of attacking reinforcements this summer mightn't end if Bradley Barcola is signed.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has been the primary transfer target at Anfield in recent weeks, with Fabrizio Romano claiming on Monday that the two clubs are now in discussions over a potential deal, following a reported bid of more than €100m (£85.6m) from Merseyside.

Even if the 23-year-old joins LFC, it still leaves Andoni Iraola with just the one natural senior right winger in Federico Chiesa, but that position could viably still be addressed in the remaining four weeks of the transfer window.
On the latest Media Matters podcast for Anfield Index, David Lynch suggested that Liverpool may seek to bring in another forward after Barcola, even if they land the Frenchman.

Over the last several months, as Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves neared his opportunity to opt out of his contract and cash in on a lucrative new one, many expected him to stay put. He eventually did by agreeing to a four-year, $185 million deal, but the process didn't come without anxiety.
He admitted that there was a point in the negotiations when he doubted he would end up staying with the Lakers. Indeed, the Detroit Pistons were one team that was "coming aggressively" for Reaves in free agency, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Detroit finished first in the Eastern Conference last season but needed a little more star power and another legitimate scoring threat in its halfcourt game.
Vincent Goodwill of ESPN reported on "NBA Today" that Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham tried to recruit Reaves to the Motor City.
"Banking on internal improvement has been the thought going back from last summer when they didn't make a big move going into the season," Goodwill said. "They want to see how Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland would play together and it led to 60 wins. Now you're thinking Detroit was going to go make a big move this past offseason. Cade Cunningham was very involved in the potential recruitment of Austin Reaves. Austin Reaves re-signed with the Lakers. Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving -- those were all names the Pistons were interested in. No moves materialized and now they're going to bank on the restricted free agent of Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson's extension."
The Pistons have made some incremental moves this summer, including bringing in veteran forwards John Collins, Tobias Harris and Taurean Prince and guard Isaiah Joe. But they have largely been left behind in the arms race that has taken place throughout the Eastern Conference over the past several weeks.

The 44-year-old spoke to the media once more on Tuesday, with the LFC first-team squad having arrived in Chicago for their pre-season tour of the United States, and he again stressed the need to bolster two positions in particular where he feels that options are light.
Iraola said (via liverpoolfc.com): “You have to be always open to new options to improve the squad. There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.

The summer league has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers after they finished 2-3 out in Las Vegas. They won their first two games, but then ended on a 3-game skid. However, wins and losses do not matter out in Vegas. It's all about how the young players look and how they can adjust to the NBA game after to prepare for what's to come.
Sixers rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. had some big moments in the summer league as he showed off his skills. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 ****** ists, and 3.5 rebounds along with 1.5 steals in four games. He put all of his skills on display and should be able to bring that talent to the league when the regular season begins in October.
Here are the three biggest observations on Philon while at the summer league:
Philon showed the capability to be able to put the ball in the basket. His percentages weren't great, he shot 38.2% overall and 25.8% from deep, but that can be attributed to being the main threat on the floor and teams swarming him whenever he crossed halfcourt. He also was shooting a respectable 39% from deep before a 1-for-13 showing in his final outing on July 15. There were plenty of times when he was blitzed and had to quickly adjust to how teams were defending him. Even with the extra attention, Philon was able to get into the paint, give the summer Sixers somebody who could make plays for others, and was able to make his presence known. It was a solid showing and should give the team some optimism about adding a 3-level scorer to the bench unit.
Over the four games in Vegas, Philon compiled 23 ****** ists against 10 turnovers in the four games he played. He had four turnovers in the finale against the Magic, but fatigue could have been a factor. He played 36:35 in that one on the second day of a back-to-back and he averaged 32 minutes in the summer league. He had seven ****** ists in the opener against the Detroit Pistons, six against the Indiana Pacers, four against the Houston Rockets, and six against the Magic. He was able to make plays for others, was directing traffic, and showed a lot of confidence for a rookie. The Sixers should be happy with what they saw.

The second quarter was exceptionally good for the portfolio, with Class A investment in Laughing Water Capital returning approximately 39.8% net of all fees and expenses, bringing the YTD return to approximately 33.6% net. The SP500TR and R2000 returned approximately 15.0% and 21.5%, respectively, in the second quarter. The impressive performance was driven by three of the top five positions being acquired, with its largest position nearly doubling during the quarter. "Lifecore Biomedical, Inc. Of note, following the end of the quarter the company issued an 8K noting that holders of Series A Preferred Stock were redeeming their shares, and also that the company is evaluating strategic alternatives. Xabi Alonso has said there is one simple reason why his return to the Premier League took him to Chelsea rather than Liverpool.
Earlier this year, the former Reds midfielder was strongly tipped to take over from Arne Slot when the latter was coming under increasing pressure at Anfield, and there were reports in May that he'd even be prepared to wait for LFC if they were to dispense with the Dutchman.

However, with FSG seemingly not being convinced by the Spaniard, he was instead named as the Blues' new manager on 17 May, just under a fortnight before Liverpool pulled the trigger on Slot's reign, with the Merseyside club appointing Andoni Iraola shortly afterwards.
Just as our new head coach held his introductory press conference at the AXA Training Centre on Monday, Alonso did likewise in west London as he begins his tenure as Chelsea manager.

Andoni Iraola has explained why he would ‘prefer’ to come up against low-block defences as Liverpool head coach, a subject which frequently proved to be the bane of Arne Slot’s life at Anfield.
The Dutchman was rarely slow to voice his frustration at seeing his Reds side struggle to infiltrate a deep-lying defence, something which often proved to be their Kryptonite last season as opponents revelled in stifling the 2024/25 Premier League champions.

Steven Gerrard called out the then-LFC boss for bemoaning the low-block strategy of opposition teams, insisting that it was his job to find a way to overcome that obstacle, although the 47-year-old’s successor appears to be singing a rather different tune regarding that tactic.
In his introductory press conference as Liverpool head coach on Monday morning, Iraola outlined the style of play that he’s seeking to implement at Anfield, making it abundantly clear that he wants his team to be on the front foot.

Playing his first world-ranked tournament in nearly six years, Brad Dalke opened the DP World Tour’s BMW International Open with a 3-under 69 on Thursday in Munich.
Dalke, the 28-year-old former prodigy turned YouTuber, is five shots off the lead, which is shared by Jayden Schaper and Hennie du Plessis, though Dalke sits comfortably inside the cut line thanks to four birdies in his first 12 holes and some clutch par saves late.
Dalke’s opening round at Golfclub München Eichenried nearly included a hole-in-one on the par-3 second hole, where Dalke’s tee shot from 230 yards just missed the right side of the cup before settling a few feet past. He added a couple birdie tap-ins at the par-4 ninth and par-5 11th holes before draining a 34-footer for birdie at the par-3 12th.
After a bogey at the par-4 14th, Dalke got a 30-foot par save to fall at the par-4 15th. He then got up and down for par from right of the right greenside bunker at the par-3 17th, rolling in a 15-footer in the process. He rinsed his final tee shot at the par-5 18th before hitting his third shot to 70 yards and leaving himself just 3 feet for par, which he converted.
Dalke's 69 bested the likes of Sergio Garcia (71), Casey Jarvis (71), Patrick Reed (72) and Eugenio Chacarra (72), among others.

Liverpool’s preparations for the new campaign have received a significant lift after new signing Jeremy Jacquet delivered an encouraging update on his recovery from injury, raising hopes that he will be available from the very start of Andoni Iraola’s reign.
The young central defender officially arrived at Anfield this week after his transfer from Rennes was confirmed, having agreed the move during the winter transfer window before remaining in France for the rest of last season.
Although a shoulder injury curtailed his final months in Ligue 1, Jacquet now believes the worst is behind him and is confident he will report for pre-season fully fit. That news will be welcomed by Iraola, who is preparing for his first summer in charge of Liverpool and will be eager to ****** s his new squad as early as possible.
Speaking during an interview with LFCTV following confirmation of his Liverpool move, Jacquet explained that his rehabilitation is progressing well and that he is approaching full fitness.
He said: “My shoulder is much better now, and as part of my rehab I’m now back out on the grass on my own.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the 23-year-old remains ‘high’ on LFC’s summer transfer wish list, although the player is said to be valued at more than the £116m that Manchester City are set to pay for Elliot Anderson (David Ornstein).
Late on Tuesday night, TEAMtalk reported that Liverpool have made ‘fresh contact’ with Barcola’s representatives and have received ‘further encouragement’ that the attacker is prepared to leave PSG, having become frustrated with his role at the Parc des Princes.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande appears to have reached a significant crossroads, with Paris Saint-Germain increasingly confident of securing the highly rated winger while the Reds **** s alternative attacking options for the remainder of the summer transfer window.
Reports over recent days have indicated that the French champions are in a strong position to land the 19-year-old, who is understood to favour a move to the Parc des Princes. While Liverpool had made serious progress in discussions over personal terms, the transfer has become increasingly complicated after RB Leipzig rejected two substantial offers.
According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool saw a second proposal worth €80 million plus €20 million in add-ons turned down by the Bundesliga club. Leipzig remain determined to retain one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents and are reportedly valuing Diomande at around €130 million.
Writing on X, Jacobs explained: “Yan Diomande favours a move to PSG, as Fabrice Hawkins and David Ornstein called.”
He added: “Liverpool are currently inclined to explore other targets after seeing an €80m+€20m bid rejected. That was Liverpool’s second offer. LFC had made their own progress on the player side, and haven’t to date been directly told Diomande doesn’t want to join. However, sources close to Diomande say the Ivorian winger wants to play under Luis Enrique.”

French outlet Media Foot has reported that Liverpool have now ‘reached an agreement’ with Diomande’s representatives ‘after an initial round of observation and discussions’, with the next step being to try and tempt Leipzig with a sufficiently enticing offer.
