Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert says his players "deserve all the credit" after they beat Bristol City 4-1 on Saturday.
Two goals from Cyle Larin, and strikes from Kuryu Matsuki and Finn Azaz capped off an excellent performance, and extended their unbeaten run in the league to six matches.
"If you see the block of games that we come from it's not easy, especially if you then face a team who had a whole week to prepare," he told BBC Radio Solent.
"The midweek game against Swansea we knew that we have to run more and we did run more and more intense than we have all season.
"Obviously that takes takes a toll, that's just the reality so early on in the season and then it was just different energy levels on the pitch today."

LAWRENCE — Kansas football has the opportunity to defeat a top 25 opponent on Friday, when No. 23 Missouri comes to Lawrence for a rivalry matchup.
Both KU (1-0) and Missouri (1-0) won their season openers at home. Now, the Jayhawks will have a chance to see just how much of a home field advantage they can have, as the Tigers test themselves on the road. Kansas recently announced that the game would be a sellout.
RELATED: Kansas football vs Missouri live score updates: KU aims at rivalry win
Here's what KU's coaches think about Missouri's team:
KU head coach Lance Leipold acknowledged that the fact the two teams aren't in the same conference anymore means the rivalry isn't what it used to be, but highlighted as well that last year's game reignited the spark and intensity that comes with it. He hopes the game can continue to be played in the future. It had been more than a decade since the two sides played, prior to the game in 2025.

Cowboys Flying entered Monday's All American Futurity undefeated but with one significant change: The trainer who had guided him through his first five victories was no longer in charge.
It didn't matter.
Cowboys Flying won the $3 million All American Futurity at The Downs at Albuquerque, remaining unbeaten and delivering the biggest victory of his career despite being in trainer Marco Chavez-Gutierrez's barn for only about three weeks.
The heavily backed Cowboys Flying paid $2.60 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show in the race for 2-year-olds.
Ask Her To Fly finished second, paying $13 to place and $5.40 to show. Chili Gato was third and paid $3 to show.

After four long years, the FIBA Women's World Cup is finally back. USA and China will open up their campaigns against each other on Friday.
Team USA is heavily decorated at this tournament, having won nine out of the last 12 and four consecutive World Cups. With another stacked roster, the Americans are heavy favorites once again. WNBA stars Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Chelsea Gray and more headline the squad.
While China's lineup might not be as star-studded as the USA's, they will have some impressive height on their side. On China's roster are Liberty center Han Xu who stands at 6-foot-8 and Wings center Li Yueru, who is 6-7. China's overall height could definitely cause some trouble for Team USA on offense.
Who will start out with a win?

Team USA coach Kara Lawson isn't sugarcoating the fact winning 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup gold will be challenging.
The U.S. women have largely dominated their international competition winning eight straight Olympic gold medals and nine of the last 12 World Cups dating back to 1979. The field is getting better and Team USA could have an uphill battle in this World Cup, which begins Friday, Sept. 4.
"There's no question that the world is improving at a rapid rate. It's so exciting to see, and I see it at every level, obviously, being a college coach," Lawson said Tuesday. "... That's an obvious statement that the world is improving. It has continued to improve, and there's more depth to teams at the World Cup,"
"Now, when you look at rosters, there's a number of just high-quality players. The depth of these rosters is really strong. I think it's gonna be the most difficult World Cup to win that we've had because of that, which is exciting. I mean, you should want it to be difficult, you know? It should be hard to win. It's a World Cup, you know?"
The depth of USA Basketball will all but certainly be tested.

The late, great Dolly Parton loved her Tennessee Volunteers, and the football team will honor her memory with a special helmet sticker this upcoming season.
The Sevierville native is as synonymous with the region as Vols football, so it's beyond fitting that Tennessee players will wear a Dolly-inspired ****** erfly sticker on their helmets this season to recognize the legendary musician.
REMEMBERING DOLLY: Dolly Parton sang "Rocky Top" at the UT game after Peyton Manning escorted her out
We're sure this won't be the only way Neyland Stadium will recognize Parton this season, but this is a really cool way to instantly honor her memory in every Vols game this season. We're sure Dolly would be really proud to see this.
Kudos to Tennessee for making sure they honor Parton's memory right off the bat.

It is cutdown day in the National Football League, and teams needed to get their rosters down to 53 players ahead of the 6 p.m. deadline on Sunday. For the Seattle Seahawks, their roster cuts came with some good news for one former Spartan, but some bad news for another former Spartan.
While Montorie Foster Jr. made the roster, it meant that former MSU wide receiver Cody White was edged out of a roster spot, and subsequently was released by the Seahawks.
After going undrafted in 2021, White got his NFL career started with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played 16 games over two seasons. Most recently, White was featured in 14 games with the Seahawks over the last two seasons. In his career, he has 11 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown.

Hull City look to be moving with real purpose in the transfer market. According to GFFN, citing Fabrizio Romano, the club have reached an agreement in principle with Eintracht Frankfurt for Jean-Mattéo Bahoya. The next step is simple enough, the player must decide.
That matters, because Bahoya is not short of options. Everton have also been linked, and when a 21-year-old French attacker with Bundesliga experience becomes available, interest tends to follow. Hull, though, have put themselves in position. That is the key point here.
Bahoya is primarily a left winger, but modern recruitment is about more than one fixed role. He can operate across the front line and offers the sort of positional flexibility Premier League squads need. For a promoted club, that has obvious value. You do not always buy specialists, you buy players who can solve several problems at once.
Photo: IMAGO
His numbers are respectable rather than spectacular. After joining Frankfurt from Angers in January 2024 for €8m, he made 33 appearances in all competitions in his first full season, scoring three goals and adding four ***** ists. In 2025-26, he featured 37 times, with four goals and four ***** ists. Those are not elite outputs, but they suggest development, availability and trust from coaches in a demanding environment.

The Buffalo Bills have released former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Zion Logue ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Buffalo released Logue ahead of the roster cut deadline. Logue recorded a pair of tackles and no sacks this preseason.
This offseason, Buffalo signed Logue to a reserves/futures contract. Logue is a candidate to land on the Bills' practice squad.
Last season, Logue appeared in three games with the Bills. He posted 1/2 sack, two tackles and a pass defended.
The Bills signed Logue off the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad during the 2024 NFL season. The Falcons originally drafted Logue in the sixth-round of the 2024 NFL draft. Back as a rookie in 2024, Logue had a similar role in Buffalo. He appeared in two games for the Bills and recorded a pair of tackles.
Logue was one of 13 players Buffalo released ahead of the roster cut deadline. The Bills also released former Georgia receiver Mecole Hardman, who scored the winning touchdown in Super Bowl 58.

Where to watch Columbus vs. Bishop Gorman football: Channel, live stream, kickoff time for high school game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A week after taking down the No. 1 team in the country, Bishop Gorman has ascended to the top spot and will travel cross-country for its next marquee game.
The Gaels' first game atop the MaxPreps national rankings will be in Miami on Saturday against Columbus, the perennial multi-sport powerhouse. The Explorers opened their season last week with a 45-7 rout of Southridge, while Gorman took down St. John Bosco 38-28.
Gorman's junior quarterback Ace Amina threw for 227 yards and four touchdowns last week, but the Gaels have plenty of star power on defense, too, including senior four-star corners Hayden Stepp (Oregon commit) and Kamil Loud (Cal).
The player to watch for Columbus is five-star athlete A'mir Sears, who is committed to the hometown Hurricanes as a corner but could also end up getting receiver reps in college.

SUAMICO – Bay Port football coach Steven Jorgensen said before the season that he wished he could celebrate wins a little more and forget losses a little easier.
His team most certainly will celebrate for a day after its Week 2 victory.
Bay Port beat Kimberly 28-13 on Aug. 27, starting the season 2-0 for the first time since 2022 and finally ending its losing streak to the Papermakers and their fifth-year coach, Chad Michalkiewicz.
The Pirates had lost the last four meetings in the series, including being held to 14 or fewer points in each of the last three games. It's the only three contests since 2022 in which Bay Port has failed to score more than 14 points.
Michalkiewicz was 6-0 against Bay Port since the alternate spring season in 2021, winning the final two showdowns of his tenure at De Pere and his first four after being hired at Kimberly in 2022.

Over 11,000 people participated in the City of Austin's adult year-round sports leagues in 2024, with growth among seniors and transplants expected in 2025 and 2026. On Friday, players and team leaders in the program were notified the city is canceling its indoor leagues, including basketball and volleyball, to save $400,000.
"The approved reduction removes two recreational programming positions and **** ociated funding related to adult indoor sports operations, totaling an estimated savings of $400,000," reads a statement from the city's department. "It is one of the reductions made within Austin Parks and Recreation, and similar savings measures were approved across other General Fund departments."
According to a City of Austin Parks and Recreation presentation, the department had 1,113 team sign-ups in 2024 across all adult sports, including outdoor leagues like softball and flag football. With registration costs at $350 per team, the department generated approximately $389,550 in revenue. The city's basketball leagues have all been canceled, with refunds to teams to follow.
The department states that the changes are part of the city's ongoing budget constraints and that it is actively evaluating how adult sports opportunities can continue within department‑operated **** es. Notably, this would likely involve removing the city as operators of Austin's adult indoor sports leagues and relying on community or private organizations to preserve play.
"If these leagues go away, there's not another place that we can move and replicate what we've had for generations," said Austin resident and adult sports league participant Pete Signor to KVUE. "Most other leagues are significantly more expensive, like triple the cost, and many of them are not as skilled or more social in nature."

A blowout loss is a tough way to start a series at home in a playoff race, but the South Siders hope to flush Monday's game and come out strong behind Anthony Kay today. After defeating the Sox yesterday, the Rangers now hold a half-game lead over the Houston Astros in the AL West, while Chicago's lead in the AL Central has shrunk to just 2 1/2 games over the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians have rebounded from their rough stretch, winning seven of their last 10 and riding a five-game winning streak after defeating the Los Angeles Angels yesterday. The Angels, of course, had opportunities to come back but naturally didn't.
The South Siders are 5-5 in their last 10, and the offense has been struggling as a whole lately, basically living and dying by the long ball as we've seen in the last several games. In August, the White Sox are hitting just .208 with runners in scoring position as a team — the second-worst average in baseball over that stretch — while also racking up the most strikeouts (70). It also probably doesn't help that both Colson Montgomery and Munetaka Murakami are building Strikeout City from the ground up, with Colson leading MLB in Ks over the last two weeks (24 in 51 ABs) and Mune's 21 ranking third in baseball. Woof.
With both the rotation and bullpen continuing to struggle, the pitching staff took another hit when the White Sox announced that Huascar Brazobán is headed to the IL with a left lat strain. Righthander Jonathan Cannon is being called up from Triple-A Charlotte to help fill the hole. Jonathan Cannon is most certainly not the answer, but at this point, the front office seems ready to try anything.
The only other roster update for today is that our sweet (mostly) clutch Andrew Benintendi has been placed on the bereavement list, and Rikuu Nishida will rejoin the team in his absence. We send our thoughts to Andrew and his family during this time.
Regardless of what the masses may think, lefthander Anthony Kay has been solid for the Good Guys and is probably the second-best starter they currently have behind Sean Burke. Kay will make his 25th start of the season and has a 3.96 ERA and a 1.327 WHIP over 127 1/3 innings. He seems to keep improving, and in August alone, Kay has allowed just seven earned runs over 23 2/3 innings (four starts), good for a cool 2.66 ERA and a 2-1 record. If you ask me, his great outing against the Atlanta Braves last week went unrewarded because the offense was nowhere to be found.

MIAMI (AP) — Anthony Seigler hit a go-ahead triple in the ninth inning, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins 4-2 on Monday night.
Mickey Gasper had two hits and walked twice for the Red Sox, who won their fourth straight. Boston has won 19 of 20 against teams with records of .500 or better.
Miami closer Pete Fairbanks (4-5) started the ninth but left with an injury after issuing a leadoff walk to Gasper. Fairbanks stepped off the mound and touched his throwing arm as he talked with catcher Brian Navarreto and manager Clayton McCullough.
Tyler Zuber relieved Fairbanks and allowed Seigler's line drive toward the right field foul area that scored pinch-runner Eli White from first and snapped a 2-all tie. Nick Sogard followed with an RBI single.
Erik Miller (3-0) pitched a scoreless eighth around two singles and a walk. Aroldis Chapman closed it out for his 30th save.

JJ Bleday leaned out and turned on a Zack Littell meatball in the Top of the 6th inning of Saturday night's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks down in the Land of the Endless Strip Mall, and the laser flew over the fence in right field at Chase Field for a homer.
That's cool in a nutshell. What made it even more special, though, is that the Cincinnati outfielder had already picked up a single, double, and triple on the evening, and this homer game him the cycle.
The cycle – just the 8th in the long, storied history of the Cincinnati Reds – was a marked change from where Bleday's form has been so far in August. Despite scorching the earth with his play in May after being recalled from AAA Louisville, he's fallen into something of a three true outcomes slugger ever since, with the hits and homers being much fewer and more far between.
Not so on Saturday, though.
Bleday's homer played pile-on for the Reds, who held an 8-2 lead at the time. Each of JJ, Elly De La Cruz, and Sal Stewart had been electric at the plate so far on the day, and that's pretty much the lone recipe for the Reds having success on any given night.

Vita Vea's future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became one of the bigger questions surrounding the team this summer. A hold-in, a contract dispute, and reports of a trade request created legitimate uncertainty about whether the defensive stonewall would remain in Tampa Bay. Now that the situation has been resolved, Vea made it clear that leaving was never what he wanted.
Following the agreement on a one-year, $30 million extension that keeps him under contract through 2027, Vea said his goal was always to remain with the Buccaneers. "I always wanted to be here," Vea said. He also described his desire as wanting "to be a Buc for life." That sentiment provides important context to what became a complicated situation. Vea's agent had previously indicated that he did not expect the dispute to end without a trade, while Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht maintained that the team had no plans to move its starting nose tackle.
Vea has spent his entire eight-year career in Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers selected him 12th overall in the 2018 draft. He has become one of the most important players on the defense, earning two Pro Bowl selections and returning from an injury just in time to help the Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV. Players wanting to stick with the franchise isn't something new, however. Lavonte David spent his entire 14-year career with Tampa Bay before retiring this offseason, becoming one of the most respected players in franchise history. David finished his career with 1,714 tackles, matching Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks for the franchise's career tackle record, and left behind a reputation built as much on loyalty and leadership as his production. Vea now has a chance to build a similar legacy. For a franchise that has watched players like David establish what it means to be a Buccaneer for life, Vea's comments carry weight.

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – When Trent Seaborn made his first start at quarterback for Thompson (AL), he was as nervous as any first-time starter would be. There was just one difference: Seaborn was just 14 years old and hadn't even started high school yet.
"I can remember it clear as day," Seaborn said. "I was so scared."
Four years later, Seaborn took the field for his final season opener in a Thompson uniform, and the difference was evident.
Not only has the Alabama commit grown a few inches, expanded his skill set and helped lead the Warriors to three state championships, but he has learned how to embrace the pressure that comes with being a starting quarterback.
"It's funny, I think back to all the other years I've played and I would be nervous before all the games," Seaborn said. "But it was kind of a different feeling when I stepped off the bus today. I just felt calm and collected."

James Harden agreed to a three-year, $97 million contract to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers, two people close to the situation told The ******* ociated Press on Thursday.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced. It includes a player option for the 2028-29 season as well as a trade kicker.
Harden declined his $42.3 million player option for the upcoming season, but he indicated after the Cavaliers were swept in four games by the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals that he would like to return. He also wanted to wait until the Cavaliers were done making a couple moves before his new agreement was in place.
The 36-year-old Harden will be going into his 18th NBA season. He averaged 10.7 points and 1.7 turnovers for the Cavaliers in 26 regular-season games after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers for Darius Garland on Feb. 4.
Harden averaged 19.7 points in the postseason, but his turnovers also went up to 4.7 per game, including five or more in 10 of Cleveland's 18 games. He also struggled on defense.

WNBA forced to clarify Sophie Cunningham stance after Reddit controversy erupts originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The WNBA found itself pulled into another controversy involving Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, even though the league had nothing to do with the decision that sparked the backlash. Cunningham's name reportedly was filtered by moderators of the independently operated r/WNBA subreddit, preventing some users from publishing posts or comments about the veteran guard. The restriction quickly drew criticism from fans who believed an official WNBA community was censoring discussion of one of the league's most recognizable players.
There was one major problem with that **** umption: The subreddit is not operated by the WNBA. As frustration spread across social media, a league spokesperson issued a brief statement distancing the organization from the Reddit community.
"The WNBA does not moderate or have any affiliation with the r/WNBA subreddit," the league said, according to Khristina Williams.
The clarification did not settle the broader debate, but it established that the decision came from volunteer Reddit moderators rather than league officials.
