Louisville football's afternoon scrimmage was the easiest part of head coach Jeff Brohm's day.
Figuring out which players were eligible, however, was the tricky part.
"It changes every day, so it's hard to keep track," Brohm said. "Pretty much every day, we just call over compliance. They tell us what we can do and not do, and we roll with it. ... If your guys are here, you'd like them to be able to practice and play. So we're hopeful that can happen."
On Friday morning, Aug. 21, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit granted the NCAA's stay request in the Wisne v. NCAA case, meaning the new "5-for-5" age-based eligibility rule will not broadly apply to all student-athletes who entered college in 2022, barring an appeal. That ruling made Cardinals linebacker Kalib Perry, cornerback Jabari Mack and safety D'Angelo Hutchinson ineligible for the 2026 season after the three defenders recently announced they would take advantage of the extra year of eligibility.
A couple hours later, Mack and Hutchinson were deemed eligible. They are two of 13 athletes granted a temporary restraining order on the Tenth Circuit's ruling after filing a lawsuit in the Jefferson County Circuit Court. The order is set to "remain in effect until further order of the court or until determination of plaintiffs' request for a preliminary injunction," according to the court document.

The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals handed the NCAA a temporary victory on Friday, issuing a stay of a preliminary injunction that granted athletes from the high school class of 2022 an extra year of eligibility.
The 2-1 decision by the Tenth Circuit came after the NCAA appealed a Colorado federal judge's temporary injunction allowing the 2022 athletes to play under the same rules as players currently in college. In June, the NCAA changed its rules to allow athletes to play five seasons within a five-year eligibility window, provided age requirements are met, but the rule was not applied retroactively.
The NCAA informed schools on Friday that the rules that applied before the Colorado decision were in effect.
The Colorado judge granted the injunction on July 31 in the federal class-action lawsuit filed by Brock Wisne, a Northern Colorado basketball player who said the NCAA violated antitrust law by barring him from playing a fifth season.
"The Tenth Circuit's decision to stay the preliminary injunction issued by a Colorado federal district court judge in Wisne permits Division I to return to the status quo before the district court intervened," an NCAA statement said. "Effective immediately, the age-based eligibility rules will be implemented as the Division I membership intended.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Six million people in Somalia are facing acute food insecurity while the World Food Program has only a tenth of the resources it had in 2022 when it helped avert famine in the drought- and conflict-stricken East African nation, the head of the U.N. agency told The ******* ociated Press.
"We can only do the bare minimum," WFP acting executive director Carl Skau said Wednesday during a visit to a nutrition center on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu. "We're only providing these nutrition supplies to the children that are really the worst hit."
The reduced funds, because of cuts in international aid by donors and the redirection of resources to other humanitarian crises, meant that the WFP is unable to expand its ******* istance in Somalia, Skau said.
The WFP projects that 1.9 million children under age 5 in the country will suffer acute malnutrition this year, including nearly 500,000 who will require urgent treatment for severe acute malnutrition. Overall, around 30% of the population faces critical levels of food insecurity, the U.N. has said.
"We had 10 times more resources than now," Skau said of the 2022 hunger emergency that was caused by a prolonged drought. "We were able to step in, and we prevented a famine here in Somalia."

Willson Contreras has been a great addition for the Boston Red Sox this season, but there have been a couple of instances when he has been booed by the fans.
On Aug. 8, he was booed for not running hard on a ground ball, and the same thing happened in the 10th inning of Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Contreras hit a ground ball to third base as the second batter of the tenth inning and did not run hard to beat it out, resulting in the second out but a run scoring.
He put his hand to his ear on his way back to the dugout as some fans booed him. He stood by his decision to take it easy down the first base line, pointing to his leg injury as the reason why.
Despite the boos, Contreras stands firm on his belief that Boston is the right city for him to be playing baseball in.

There was some debate between a few media members about whether the Washington Huskies' practice on Tuesday should be considered the ninth, the number of open practices Jedd Fisch's team has held, or the tenth, since Sunday's workout was closed to both the public and the media.
No matter which number people chose to go with, it was by far the most explosive workout of fall camp for Fisch's offense.
The biggest play of the day went to wide receiver Chris Lawson, who continued to build on a strong fall performance, as he broke away from the defense on a go route to haul in a 70-yard touchdown from second-string quarterback Elijah Brown.
Kennesaw State transfer Christian Moss also built on what has been an impressive camp. Early in the day, he hauled in a 13-yard touchdown from Demond Williams Jr. on a perfectly timed throw to his back shoulder during a 7-on-7 period, before he broke away from cornerback Rahshawn Clark on a deep post route during a full team drill for a 60-yard gain.
It was also a very nice day for sophomore tight end Baron Naone, who went up and over All-Big Ten honorable mention safety Alex McLaughlin for a 15-yard score in a 7-on-7 drill. After McLaughlin intercepted quarterback Kini McMillan in a one-on-one rep earlier on in practice, and letting the second-year quarterback know all about it, offensive linemen John Mills and Drew Azzopardi were quick to run into the end zone and return the favor.

Aaron Donald had a second workout at the Rams' team facility as he continues to decide whether to unretire. Coach Sean McVay was asked about the defensive tackle's "tryout," as it was designated on the NFL's personnel notice Sunday, but didn't allow much.
He noted that team personnel were present with team equipment, requiring the workout to be reported to the league.
"I'm not trying to be like, coy with it," McVay said, Benjamin Royer of the ocregister.com. "It's semantical. It's part of his process that he's going through. It just allows us to be able to use football equipment and it's very similar to what the other workout was. . . . That was just another part of his process."
Donald initially worked out for the Rams on Aug. 5 to evaluate how he felt.
It appears he has had other workouts at the team facility without team personnel present and without use of team equipment, via a video posted by 2Tenths Speed & Agility on Aug. 10. That would not require the Rams to report it to the league.

Hello everyone, and welcome back for another week of rankings in the UFC. That was a wild fight card we had for UFC 330, in which we saw both champions defend their belts successfully. We also saw a ton of upsets in this card that turned the entire betting world upside down.
However, now that UFC 330 is in the past, we look forward to UFC Fight Night 285 in Sacramento. This fight night will feature Anthony "Fluffy" Hernandez versus Gregory Rodrigues for the main event.
That being said, let's get to this week's rankings and see who made it. Have a great day, everyone, and may the fights be with you.
MORE: UFC 330 results: Islam Makhachev rides out **** le defense, Mackenzie Dern dominates
Joshua Van remains at tenth even after his amazing win against Tatsuro Taira at UFC 328. Since then, it's been quiet, but now the wait is finally over. Van will be facing Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 331 on September 19th, in Los Angeles, CA. After seeing them face to face at UFC 330's media day, I can't wait for these two to finally square off in a fair fight with no injuries.

Yankees 4 Jays 3 (10 innings)
Well, I didn't expect a sweep, not that it wouldn't have nice.
Tied in the tenth the Yankees scored two in the top of the inning. After a sac bunt, to move the Manfred Man to third base, Ben Rice homered off Braydon Fisher.
We got one in the bottom of the inning, Andrés Giménez singled home the Manfred Man, but we couldn't bring him home to tie the game.
As usual, our offense didn't do enough, just two runs in regulation time.

BYU's Fall Semester is 2.5 weeks away from starting, so hopefully this will be the last of these offseason notebooks I write focusing on this coming season's roster. BYU has two open roster spots, and all eyes are on the potential addition of Michigan State big man Jaxon Kohler to potentially fill out the roster.
Jaxon Kohler
I've already wrote extensively about Jaxon. The 6-foot-10 Michigan State big man would be a huge addition to BYU's roster and put BYU in contender status for a Big 12 ****** le. Jaxon would be one of the top big men in the Big 12 and single-handedly raise BYU's ceiling to a team that could go deep in the NCAA Tournament. Jaxon can score on the block, is one the best big man shooters in college basketball, and is a high-level rebounder. No other big BYU pursued this offseason would raise BYU's ceiling more than Jaxon Kohler. He would lead BYU in rebounding and probably be the favorite to be second in scoring behind Rob Wright. I'd have Jaxon as the best offensive big man in the Big 12 and one of the three best bigs in the league along with Arizona's Mo Krivas and Houston's Jo Tugler.
As it stands right now due to various state-level court injunctions, Jaxon Kohler can play a fifth year but can only do so at Michigan State. He and several other players are part of a California injunction that, if granted, would allow him to enter the transfer portal. All other state-level injunctions such as Ohio and Tennessee have granted in favor of the players and allowed them to play a fifth year and enter the transfer portal. Odds are high that the court will rule in the players favor and Jaxon will be able to enter the portal. The NCAA has maintained its stance that it opposes the courts rulings, and we should get a federal ruling early next week from the tenth circuit in the Colorado case that was recently ruled on. If the courts rule against the NCAA again in that case, that could force the NCAA to finally back off.
Based on several conversations I've had, I have BYU as the favorite to land Jaxon if he is indeed eligible to play. Schools such as Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville and several others have made a strong push, but BYU has stood above the rest. Kevin Young has made a very positive impression on Jaxon and there is a strong pull for Jaxon to stay close to home for his final season of college. Additionally, BYU has been able to raise its NIL offer in the past couple weeks to be more competitive for Jaxon, which was the last big hurdle. BYU has all the basketball and home stuff in its favor, now they have made the money less of a blocker. While BYU is not the highest bidder, BYU is in the ballpark to not have such a wide gap versus other schools. As it stands today I see Louisville as the strongest opposition to BYU due to a strong NIL offer they recently proposed, but BYU has done all the right things here. Once Jaxon gets eligibility, I anticipate he would commit to a school shortly after. That could come as soon as this week.

Kate Douglass continued her ****** ault on the 50m freestyle world record on Saturday, clocking a stunning 23.19sec to win Pan Pacific Championships gold with her second world mark of the day.
The American sliced three-tenths of a second off the world record of 23.49sec she set hours earlier in the heats in Irvine, California.
That broke the world record of 23.55sec set by fellow American Gretchen Walsh on June 28 in Rome -- where Walsh broke the world mark that Douglass had set on June 19.
Douglass finished a whopping 55-hundredths of a second ahead of Walsh, who took silver in 23.74sec. Australia's reigning world champion Meg Harris was third in 23.89.
Douglass returned less than half an hour later to claim silver in the 200m ****** troke won by Canadian Alexanne LePage in 2:21.73.

On Saturday morning, Kate Douglass casually set a world record in her 50-meter freestyle heat. Saturday night, she swam the race again — and absolutely demolished her own record.
Douglass sprinted to a gold medal in the event with a mind-boggling time of 23.19 seconds, pulling away to leave a sizable gap between her and the competition. The time shaved a full three-tenths of a second off her time from that morning's heat, and left the commentators completely speechless.
Douglass had been trading the record with fellow USA teammate Gretchen Walsh throughout the summer. After Douglass set a record of 23.59 in Indianapolis on June 19, Walsh beat the record just eight days later, recording a time of 23:55.
On Saturday, Douglass took that stat back with a 23:49 — before smashing it hours later.
Walsh came in second on Saturday, picking up the silver with a time of 23:74. Australia's Meg Harris came in third with a time of 23.89.

American Kate Douglass took back the world record in the 50m freestyle from training partner Gretchen Walsh in the preliminary heats, then broke it again — crushed it — in the evening final at the Pan Pacific Championships on Saturday.
Douglass, the Olympic 200m **** troke gold medalist, clocked 23.49 seconds in the prelims Irvine, California, breaking the record of 23.55 set by Walsh on June 28.
Then in the final, she went 23.19 — breaking her hours-old record by three tenths of a second.
Douglass previously held the world record of 23.59 set June 19, holding it for nine days before Walsh took it.

Blake Snell had pitched in just one game this season before needing surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow.
He made his return on Tuesday night and reminded the world why he has two Cy Young Awards. Snell went six innings, allowing just three hits and one run. He did walk one batter, but the real story were his 10 strikeouts. He dominated the Kansas City Royals lineup and exited the game with the score tied at one.
The Dodgers would score two runs after he exited, but the bullpen imploded once again, and the game ended up going to extras. The Dodgers won in the tenth inning, but Snell's dominant night means so much more than just one win.
For starters, it gives the Dodgers two multi-time Cy Young Award winners in the rotation. With Tarik Skubal and Snell lined up for back-to-back games in this six-man rotation, the Dodgers have to feel good about their chances in every series the rest of the way.

PHOENIX — This might have been the best-case scenario for Hezly Rivera.
The competition at the world championships in October is going to be fierce. The Russians are back with a full team for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics, and these worlds are the first chance countries have to secure their spots at LA28.
That's new territory for Rivera. Sure, she has an Olympic gold medal. But this will be the first time the U.S. women will be counting on her, rather than Simone Biles or Suni Lee, to lead the charge.
By having to dig herself out of a hole to win her second U.S. ****** le on Sunday, Aug. 9, Rivera showed she has the grit to thrive on the biggest stage.

PHOENIX — Hezly Rivera cemented her place as the leading U.S. female gymnast — for now — with a historic comeback to repeat as U.S. all-around champion.
Rivera, an 18-year-old 2024 Olympian, jumped from fourth place after the first night of competition to win after the second and final day Sunday. She is the second woman to repeat as U.S. all-around champion in the last 13 years after Simone Biles, who won a record nine ******* les.
Rivera totaled 111.95 points over both days, edging Dallas-area training partner Claire Pease by 1.15 points. Rivera trailed by six tenths after day one, when she fell off the uneven bars.
The last comeback from fourth or lower to win nationals was when Courtney Kupets went from fourth to win in 2003. Eighteen of the last 20 editions, a first-day leader won nationals.

The 2026 Red Sox are now just the tenth team in MLB history to win 27 out of 30 games, and the first team in MLB history to have done so after being 10 or more games under .500 at the start of that 30-game stretch. This is unprecedented, unbelievable and… unterrible.
Can they keep it going tonight? The seemingly unstoppable Jake Bennett takes the mound against Gage Jump, whose name is much better than his stat line: 4.59 ERA, 66.2 IP, 73 K, 31 BB, 7 HR. Unfortunately, he got the better out of the Sox out on the West Coast, throwing six shutout innings in the only game the A's would take from the Sox. Jarren Duran and Masatka Yoshida both take the bench against the lefty, with Jahmai Jones leading off at DH and Eli White making his first Red Sox start.

Heidenheim started their 2. Bundesliga campaign with a 4-3 win over Osnabrück. Frank Schmidt's side led 3-2 at the end of the first-half after Osnabrück cancelled out their first two strikes.
New signing Marcel Costly ******* isted Budu Zivzivadze's opener in the tenth minute. The Georgian striker started the season with the form he had at the closing stage of their Bundesliga campaign as his second goal was nullified for an offside.
The 3. Liga champions then leveled the score from a set-piece opportunity in the midpoint of the first-half. Center-back Niklas Wiemann headed home after Konrad Faber's initial delivery from a corner-kick parried away by Heidenheim's defense.
It was the turn of Osnabrück to fail to clear their lines when Costly restored Heidenheim's lead five minutes later. Another five minutes later, Faber produced his second ******* ist of the game when David Kopacz caught everyone by surprise with a stunning strike from outside the box.
However, the newcomers were behind once again as Jonas Föhrenbach's corner-kick was converted by Jan Schöppner in the injury-time of the first-half. The next goal also came from another corner-kick, but it didn't arrive until the 89th minute.

Ryder Malinoski took the lead from his ClubMX training partner and teammate Jesson Turner on Lap 4 of 13 in the first 250 Pro Sport Moto in Day 1 of the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, and stretched his advantage to as much as six seconds in the closing laps.
Malinoski and Turner had to get around Team Husqvarna Amateur Racing's Max Shane on the first lap before they rapidly gained and advantage on the field.
Turner kept his ClubMX rival in sight for several laps before gradually losing contact midway through the race.
The critical moment was Lap 5, when a bobble by Turner allowed
Malinoski to expand his gap from two-tenths of a second to nearly three. From that point on, he was able to control the flow of the race.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Landon Gibson rounded out the podium after fighting his way through the field. He started the race in 10th and did not achieve the podium position until Lap 9.

Roma recently welcomed its tenth Greek player: defender Konstantinos Koulierakis. Will he unleash his inner Manolas, or are we in for another Greek Tragedy like Tsimikas? Let's take a look at his predecessors in the Eternal City.
Ah, Greece. Sun, sea, hundreds of islands, friendly people, sirtaki, great olive oil, ouzo, pita, lamb dishes. I'm not gonna lie, Greece is my second favorite country in Europe, after, of course, Italy. So many uncharted territories, so many jewels scattered across the Mediterranean Sea, waiting to be explored.
Anyway, let's talk football. Greece has generated some excellent players over the years. Take their Euro 2004 squad: Charisteas, Zagorakis, Nikopolidis, Basinas, Seitaridis, Papadopoulos. They weren't superstars, but they were reliable and skilled players. The team was compact, resilient, and tough, winning against Portugal and France and drawing with Spain in 2004.
More recently, Greece has produced well-known names, including Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Anastasios Douvikas, and Vangelis Pavlidis, as well as promising young talents such as Christos Mandas, Christos Tzolis, and Konstantinos Karetsas.
And there is also Konstantinos Koulierakis: a tall, athletic center-back who just joined Roma from Wolfsburg and has already been capped 22 times by the Greek National Team.

It probably won't get any wilder today: Jadon Sancho is currently without a club, as we know, after his time at United didn't go as hoped.
To stay fit, Sancho recently used the facilities of English tenth-tier amateur club Flixton FC. In Germany, this level roughly corresponds to the Kreisliga A.
A video in which he praised the amateur club's infrastructure then caused quite a stir. In the clip, he said: "You've got a really nice setup here. It's my first time in this area, and it's also the first time that I've seen such a good pitch [in this region] apart from United and City."
Could the 26-year-old pro now be more or less hanging up his career and only playing in amateur football?
Because of these rumors, the club now felt compelled to publish a statement to clarify the real reason for the visit:

ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) is one of the top energy names in President Donald Trump's financial disclosures from earlier this year. The stock is up about 27% so far this year. But does a presidential trade make it a buy today? Let's break down what's actually driving the stock.
Exxon benefits directly from rising oil prices amid the Iran war. Its upstream segment was projected to see a multibillion-dollar earnings lift for the second quarter compared to the first, driven almost entirely by higher realized prices rather than any change in production. That's the logic behind buying an oil major right as a Middle East conflict escalates.
Exxon's balance sheet gives it room to lean into higher prices. Net debt relative to EBITDA sits under 1x, among the lowest in the industry, and the company is on pace to repurchase roughly $20 billion of stock this year. Guyana production just hit a quarterly record above 900,000 barrels a day, and the company has applied to drill dozens more wells there.
In the Permian Basin, Exxon is now the largest operator following its Pioneer acquisition and expects to roughly double output there by 2030. Longer term, natural gas tied to data center power demand is another growth lever bulls point to, with McKinsey estimating data centers could eventually account for more than a tenth of total U.S. power demand.
There's a demand question sitting underneath the price spike. The IEA sees global oil demand softening this year, and even OPEC, which tends to run more optimistic, trimmed its own demand growth forecast. If the Iran-driven premium in oil prices fades if another ceasefire takes place, some of Exxon's near-term earnings boost fades with it.

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is hopeful that the arrival of Andoni Iraola will help him secure a "second chance" at establishing himself within the squad, following a challenging loan spell last season.
The 23-year-old endured a difficult time at Aston Villa, where he featured in only nine games, totalling 277 minutes. His limited appearances were due to a specific clause in his loan agreement, which would have obligated Villa to sign him for £35 million had he made a tenth appearance.
Elliott returned to Liverpool's midfield for their 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over Wrexham in New York on Wednesday night. Despite ongoing speculation linking him with another move away, the player expressed his deep connection to the club.
"Everyone knows how much I love the club," Elliott stated after the match. "I've supported them from a very young age so the feeling never goes of putting the shirt back on and representing the club. It's a childhood dream. Every time I put the shirt on I want to give it 100 per cent."
Reflecting on his previous season, Elliott acknowledged the difficulties but is now focused on getting his career back on track.

In a major development, London-based streaming platform DAZN will have a major hand in distributing local NBA broadcasts to fans next season.
According to a report by Austin Karp in Sports Business Journal, "DAZN is close to acquiring full exclusive local broadcast rights next season" for five NBA teams formerly under contract with Main Street Sports Group, owner of the now-defunct FanDuel Sports Networks. Those teams are the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, and Memphis Grizzlies. Additionally, DAZN is close to securing streaming-only arrangements with the Orlando Magic and "possibly" the Charlotte Hornets.
DAZN will also overtake what is now known as the Gotham Sports app, a joint streaming venture between YES Network and MSG Networks that sells access to local broadcasts for seven New York-area franchises — the Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and Sabres.
The news is a culmination of DAZN's nearly year-long effort to break into the local sports broadcast market in the United States. After initially considering a lifesaving merger or acquisition of Main Street, DAZN instead chose to allow the company to collapse and attempt to court local rights for franchises independently. The streamer initially struck out on every MLB team following Main Street's collapse, but is now set to own streaming rights for at least nine NBA clubs, with the possibility of adding the Washington Wizards as a tenth under a non-exclusive streaming deal, per Sports Business Journal.
With the NBA looking to launch a centralized local streaming hub ahead of the 2027-28 season, DAZN will reportedly sign deals that are either one season in length or have mutual opt-out clauses following the upcoming season as teams demand the flexibility to join the league's aggregated local rights solution when it launches. If DAZN or a team invokes an opt-out clause, it will reportedly pay a termination fee unless, in the team's case, DAZN fails to meet certain performance metrics.

Editor's note: Tenth in a series previewing each team in the Big 12 in 2026.
New Kansas State football coach Collin Klein had one primary objective after taking over for Chris Klieman when the 2025 season ended with the Wildcats finishing 6-6 and turning down the opportunity to play in a bowl game.
The main task for the former Heisman Trophy candidate in his playing days as a quarterback in the Little Apple was to retain the Big Man on Campus — senior quarterback Avery Johnson.
"This is home for me. It is a dream come true and I am so grateful for our administration and our players and all the effort that has been put in over the last six months as we build this thing and move it forward. Our culture has been very, very strong. This is a good situation to walk into as a first-time head coach."

Call it a B-spec, call it a heavily revised AMR26, call it whatever you want – what Aston Martin rolled out at the Hungaroring for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix is, by any reasonable engineering standard, a new Formula 1 car. Sixteen separate components were declared upgraded, mechanics broke FIA curfew to get both cars fitted in time, and the team reportedly flew spare parts to Budapest just to guarantee Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll could each run the full package. That is not a development update. That is a rebuild.
The backstory is by now well-documented and not particularly flattering. Adrian Newey didn't get serious work underway on the AMR26 until mid-March 2025, and the wind tunnel didn't see a model until mid-April – three months behind rivals who were already deep into the new regulatory cycle. The car that arrived at pre-season testing in Barcelona was overweight, paddock insiders estimated by somewhere between 10 and 15 kilograms, maybe more, and the Honda power unit was generating vibrations severe enough to rattle onboard cameras loose and leave Alonso and Stroll visibly fighting the steering wheel.
At the Australian opener, Alonso qualified 2.462 seconds off the pace. Both cars retired when the vibrations damaged the battery systems. It went largely sideways from there – one point across the opening ten rounds, tenth of eleven teams in the constructors' standings, behind only the expansion Cadillac outfit.
The nose is the clearest sign of how deep the changes go. Where the original AMR26 carried a wide, blunt front structure, the Hungary version features a noticeably thinner, more tapered profile – the kind of slender nose Newey has favoured since his early Red Bull years. That change alone cascades through the entire front end: new uprights, revised aerodynamic ducting, changed actuator mounting, and a completely reworked front wing with reshaped endplates. Per Newey, the forward section of the chassis was lightened to the point that it required a full re-homologation and fresh crash testing – which, depending on your definition, crosses the threshold from upgrade to new car.
Newey himself occupies both sides of that argument simultaneously. "The main structural elements remain the same – the chassis and gearbox architecture don't fundamentally change – but we've taken weight out of both, which required re-homologating and crash testing the forward chassis," he said. So: same architecture, new crash test. Make of that what you will.
