Teofimo Lopez Jr will be making his return to the ring in a welterweight ***** le bid against Rolly Romero later this month, and in an interview with Mr. Verzace on behalf of Ring Magazine, the pair have an awkward segment where they confused the show for a Dr. Phil special when discussing what went wrong in their loss to Shakur Stevenson.
"You know how great my son is that you had all these people trying to mess with him mentally for that fight," Teofimo Sr. said of the Shakur fight. "Everybody."
"And you helped them," Teofimo Jr chimed in.
"Whatever it is, we both messed up," Teofimo Sr replied.
Teofimo Jr, however, would not accept shared responsibility with his father on this one.

Rolly Romero is set to defend his WBA welterweight ******* le against Teofimo Lopez on August 22, but on Friday he made headlines discussing other potential opponents. We'd normally consider fellow champion Devin Haney one of those potential foes, but when Romero was asked about the possibility of a unification fight with the WBO champ, Rolly shut it down.
"Me and Devin are never going to fight because he is scared of me," Romero said to Fight Hub TV. "And I'm not going to waste my time. I don't want to talk about Devin Haney. He's ugly." The latter was Rolly being Rolly, but it'll be interesting to see if the two men ever meet. Romero has to take care of business against Lopez to keep the fight realistic. Let's talk boxing.

Teofimo Lopez takes some time to catch up and discuss his ongoing training camp as he prepares for a welterweight **** le fight against Rolly Romero. Here, Teofimo explains how he's taken lessons from past fights and has worked to improve on his deficiencies, and looks forward to demonstrating a better form in this upcoming fight. Check out some excerpts below.
"Well, I'm feeling like a champ. That's for sure. Camp's been going great. We got sparring later today but we just been persistent, we've been consistent as well. We're just focused on this one. My welterweight debut, I'm looking forward to taking over this division and it starts with Rolando Romero."
"I think that it's comforting [that I'm moving up in weight]. I think mentally, I'm there when it comes to the physicality part. And I just can't wait to express that on that night, fight night. So it's been great, I feel much better, and I'm excited for everyone to tune in.
"I think I'm going to fill out just right. I think what I did in '35 at lightweight, that's what's going to occur, if not better at '47 now with experience. So I look forward to it. No matter the reach…if [Pacquiao] can do it, why not Teofimo?"
"Punch output. The punch output is going to really distract you to really get in there closer and step in. So those are the things that you see with Pacquiao…The more you blur them, the more they're not going to notice you're actually creeping up on them at the same time. So those are things that we're really working on and looking to capitalize, for sure."

Teofimo Lopez spoke with Fight Hype after his kickoff press conference for a fight against Rolly Romero, and talking about his mindset for this fight, Lopez says he’s even more focused after coming off a wide decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in his last outing. Here are some excerpts from Lopez about where he’s currently at.
“When you get outclassed like in my previous fight then there’s things you got to really think about,” Lopez said. “I think about the business perspective of it, I need to also protect my ******* ets. What does that mean? Got to start launching something different: Takeover Promotions with DAZN. We can do anything and everything with the lead promoters that come into play but at least I get the rights to all my things…I got to take control of my career.
“These are my prime years. Let’s take advantage of those prime years but in a good way where small steps but long gains afterwards…By the end of this whole thing, I’m going to help a lot of young fighters. By the end of this whole thing, they’re going to help a lot of young fighters.”

Teofimo Lopez returns in a world **** le opportunity against Rolly Romero on August 22, and with the fighters having a personal relationship with one another over the years, Teofimo Lopez Sr gets asked about what it's like that they'll now be heading into combat with a family friend. Teofimo Sr, however was more preoccupied with other ideas.
"There was a time where Rolly said he would never fight us but, you know, **** ody wants to fight Rolly so we stepped in for a world **** le after a loss, a bad loss that my son wasn't even that fight. It was a horrible fight, it was more mental, and it had a lot to do with the way they don't give my son credit for all the things that he has done. Not putting him in the P4P list, that you could say he was two-time undisputed…
"That hurts a boxer, mentally. My son is like that, he takes that personal. And he just gave the fight to Shakur. He didn't even slip, he didn't do the things he does in boxing. You heard me, man. I was going crazy, I couldn't believe what he was doing. He was fighting him to the right the whole night, stepping out and getting hit with that jab all night, and that's not my son. That was a gift.
"But this is not a race, man. This is a marathon and let's see what happens five years from now. Let's see who's up top.
"It's good for Shakur, but at least we know how to lose. I feel bad for Shakur when he loses, and he's a boring fighter, **** ody going to see him, and we're going to the top. Let's see who's up on top five years from now. We're going for a real **** le right now, we're fighting the champion. We're not fighting for a vacant belt like Shakur does. He got two vacant belts.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Premier Boxing Champions officially became part of DAZN's roster of promotional partners on Thursday, and while the Teofimo Lopez-Rolly Romero welterweight ***** le fight will carry the marquee value on August 22, the more consequential story to come out of the press conference at the Avalon in Hollywood may be everything the deal unlocks below it.
DAZN's head of boxing in North America, Britton Hardin, called PBC the last major promoter needed to bring nearly the entire sport under one roof, joining Matchroom, Queensberry, Top Rank, Golden Boy, Boxxer and Salita Promotions. TGB Promotions' Tom Brown noted the platform actually opens July 25 with Errol Spence Jr. facing Tim Tszyu in Australia, with Lopez-Romero following as the first ***** le fight of the new relationship. Both men framed the deal as removing the biggest obstacle boxing has dealt with for years: division. Hardin put it bluntly, saying the goal is to stop keeping fighters siloed on separate networks and start building the matchups fans actually want.

Nobody made that case better than Sebastian Fundora. The WBC super welterweight ***** leholder, whose younger sister Gabriela has fought on DAZN for years, said the partnership finally puts every top name at 154 pounds in one place, including WBA and WBO champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, IBF ***** leholder Josh Kelly and Virgil Ortiz Jr. Fundora still has to get through his mandatory defense against Ermal Hadribeaj first, but he made clear where his focus is beyond that fight, naming Ennis as the matchup he wants at the start of 2027. He also weighed in on Ennis' win over Xander Zayas last week, saying he studied the fight closely and noticed a few things in the third round that stood out, adding that the stoppage still gave fans what they wanted.

Rolly Romero is all set to defend his WBA Welterweight ****** le for the first time ever when he goes up against Teofimo Lopez on August 22, 2026 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to a recent report from Ring Magazine.
Romero won the vacant ****** le by upsetting Ryan Garcia in May 2025, defeating him via unanimous decision outside of Times Square in New York City (see it again here). Currently on a two-fight win streak, Romero currently holds a record of 17-2 with 13 knockouts on his resume. Often over-looked when it comes to talking about the best fighters in the sport, Romero can up his resume even more by taking out Lopez and Garcia in consecutive bouts.
As for Lopez, he was last seen coming up short against Shakur Stevenson earlier this year, a loss that snapped his six-fight win streak and cost him his WBO and The Ring Light Welterweight ****** les (highlights here). The loss to Stevenson was just the second of his career, bringing him to a record of 22-2 with 13 knockouts. Now, the former champion is out to reclaim a major world ****** le.
The two men do have a bit of a history as they were sparring partners when they were both coming up. Over time, however, the they began a bitter rivalry after Lopez released footage of him getting the better of Romero during training. Now, the former friends will finally get the chance to settle their feud in a real fight.
