Memphis football and Ole Miss haven't played each other since 2019. And it doesn't sound like they will anytime soon.
"Not currently," Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said on Sept. 14, when asked if there had been any recent discussions about future games with Memphis. "Our schedule is pretty solid for the next few years out. Being regional and being close, it's certainly something that we may look at in the future. But we don't have any plans for that in the immediate future."
The teams have met 63 times, but the last one was a Memphis win at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in 2019. In the past, the Tigers would play at least one power conference team every season. But that has become extremely difficult because of changes across the sport, and they don't have a power conference opponent on the schedule for 2026 or 2027.
Chief among those changes is the SEC's move to nine conference games, which means one less spot to schedule a nonconference opponent.
"It just depends," Carter said. "The way scheduling goes now with nine conference games, you're trying to figure out what this new model is going to look like moving forward. Obviously we've had some games in the past, and could in the future. But not right now and not in the immediate future."

When Sunderland were awarded a penalty following Ezri Konsa's impromptu wrestling match with Dan Ballard, it felt like a massive opportunity to break the deadlock against the notoriously watertight Gunners as Enzo Le Fée lined up his spot kick against David Raya.
There was little wrong with the Frenchman's attempt — firmly struck and aimed towards the corner — but the Spaniard made a superb save to deny Le Fée his second success from twelve yards inside a week. And when everyone's favourite villain Bruno Guimaraẽs duly fired a venomous dipping shot past Robin Roefs barely minutes later, it felt like the classic one-two punch and it ultimately defined the game.
Sunderland more than held their own in this contest; we looked sharp, combative and were able to fashion a number of decent chances against the defending champions, but the finishing touch eluded the Lads on this occasion and that somehow made the loss even more frustrating.
We know we're capable of giving the league's big guns a run for their money on any given day, and occasionally emerging victorious, but during what could easily be a "difficult second season", we need to find ways to bridge the gap and to continue to eke out points from tricky positions.
A disappointing outcome. The 0-2 scoreline might've felt slightly harsh and Reinildo's late red card was a sickener, but the way the game panned out wasn't entirely unexpected, given ******* nal's current status and Sunderland's ongoing attempts at evolution.

Stephon Castle showcases his gratitude for the Spurs legends' impactful support originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Across the NBA, there are plenty of iconic franchises. One of them is the San Antonio Spurs, a team with a history of success. They have won five championships in their time in the NBA, and their legends continue to stick around and help the next generation.
People like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, David Robinson, and many more are always present for the Spurs. This has helped the younger players because they know that they have some mentors to go to when they need help.
For any Spurs player, they will become familiar with the older figures within the organization who have been there for a long time. Of course, Gregg Popovich is probably the most recognizable one, as he is still the team president.
Mitch Johnson might have taken over as the head coach, but Pop still has an impact and influence on the players. Youngsters like Castle and Dylan Harper are benefiting from this because they know they have mentors to look up to.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Badgers red and Notre Dame green filled the streets around Lambeau Field on Sunday as two college football fan bases came together for a game years in the making.
There was no shortage of friendly competition before kickoff.
"Notre Dame is going to win, no question," Johnny Ronano said.
"Madison by a million," Andrew Thomas said.
Score predictions varied, and so did how far fans traveled to see the Badgers and Fighting Irish take the field. But both sides agreed on one thing: Playing at Lambeau Field made the matchup special.

VANCOUVER, B.C. - Let it be known, St. Louis CITY SC mean business.
After a week that saw them shell out $12 million to the Colorado Rapids in a cash-for-player trade for Rafael Navarro, the Missouri side picked up a massive 3–1 road win at Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
While Navarro and fellow new striker signing Damion Downs made their debuts off the bench, it was Simon Becher — scoring against his former team — Tomas Totland and Conrad Wallem who netted the goals that extended St. Louis's MLS-best unbeaten streak to 13 games.
With the win, CITY pushed into fifth in the West, level on points with FC Dallas for the coveted top-four spot among the Audi MLS Cup Playoff seeds. At the same time, it put their opponents on notice for trophy aspirations for the rest of the year.

LSU Tigers football printable 2026 schedule with dates, times and TV lineup originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
LSU already is at the center of controversy in its first season under former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. The Tigers are fighting for the right to have players who participated in NFL training camps join the program.
Whether or not those players join the team, how the ordeal affects team chemistry will be worth watching. At LSU and most SEC schools, players who fought for their starting jobs through camp likely consider themselves NFL prospects and may not appreciate players parachuting in and taking their playing time at the last minute.

Either way, LSU has plenty of talent. Sam Leavitt, a transfer quarterback from Arizona State, is potentially one of the nation's best. He'll be throwing to tight end Trey'Dez Green, who enters the season with 46 career receptions for 534 yards and 11 touchdowns. Safety Ty Benefeld, a transfer from Boise State, is expected to anchor the defense.

Good Good Golf CEO Matt Kendrick and president Joe Flannery have left the brand in the wake of their advertisement with Callaway that generated massive backlash in recent weeks.
Kendrick and Flannery left the company this week, according to multiple reports. An internal memo, via The Athletic, stated that early investor and co-founder Nahid Giga is planning to step in as the company's interim CEO. Both Kendrick and Flannery, according to the memo, left the company of their own accord.
Their departures are just the latest after the Good Good Golf-Callaway advertisement that was released last month. The company released an ad that showed one of its co-founders, Garrett Clark, shoving a female employee to the ground as she attempted to touch the driver in his golf bag.
The ad was removed the next day, and both Good Good and Callaway have since apologized. Callaway eventually ended its partnership with Good Good, and announced that it would donate $1 million to charities aimed at preventing domestic violence. Callaway director of content and production Alex Upegui is leaving the company.
The PGA Tour has since split with Good Good, too, and the Good Good Championship this fall will have another ******* le sponsor.

Real Madrid have not completely ruled out a late departure for Ferland Mendy, although the club do not expect an offer to arrive for the injured left-back before the transfer window closes.
According to AS, Mendy remains one of the few players whose future has not been entirely settled, but his current physical condition makes a late transfer extremely difficult.
Real Madrid are otherwise expected to finish the window without further activity.
The club consider their squad complete after an ambitious summer of recruitment, while the lack of players willing to leave has also left little room for another move.
Mendy's situation is different, but not enough to suggest a transfer is imminent.

Al Michaels appeared to poke fun at President Donald Trump's decision to rename Lake Ontario during Thursday night's Patriots-Browns game.
While discussing the view from Cleveland during the Amazon Prime Video broadcast, Michaels referenced Lake Erie before turning his attention toward the changing name of another Great Lake.
"That is Lake Erie. We think it is still called Lake Erie," Michaels said in a clip shared on X. "We're not quite sure at this point. But we'll be by Lake something like Ontario or whatever it's going to be called by the time we get to Buffalo. Anyway, you know what I'm talking about. Read the news."
Michaels' comments came the same day Trump signed an executive order directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America" in U.S. government databases.
Trump said the name change was being considered amid the worsening relationship with Canada and argued that the United States did not expect to do much business with Ontario.

Defeat for Stoke at Molineux on Saturday (12:30 BST) would see them lose their opening three games of a league season for the first time in 16 years.
Wolves were 3-1 winners at Preston last weekend to record their first away win in the league since April 2025 when they won at Manchester United.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have lost each of their past three league games against Stoke City, with this set to be their first since April 2012 in the Premier League (lost 2-1 away).
Stoke City have won two of their past four away league matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers (D1 L1), as many victories as across their prior 27 visits (D11 L14).
Wolves could draw four home league games in succession for the first time since April 2016, while after drawing with Blackburn in their opener, they are trying to avoid failing to win either of their opening two home matches of a second tier campaign for just the third time this century after 2004-05 and 2015-16.

Classification cutoffs for several sports were updated by the Illinois High School ***** ociation board of directors at its meeting this month. Changes take effect for the 2027-28 school year.
The IHSA's newly revised policy gives schools plenty of notice after moving to annual classification cycles and fixed enrollment cutoffs that began in 2025-26.
"When revamping the Classification Policy in 2024, one of our goals was to provide member schools with one year notice in advance of any class cutoff changes to help them prepare accordingly," IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said in a release. "All the changes approved today will go into effect during the 2027-28 school year."
The board also changed its policy to be set at the nearest 25 students as opposed to only the nearest 50 or 100 due to declining enrollment membership.
"The overall enrollment within our membership is currently declining," Anderson said in a release, "so it makes sense to lower some of these cutoffs to keep in line with that trend. The data shows us that the majority of schools who are moving up in classification were competing in that same class just a year or two ago."

Sarfaraz Khan made a big impact as a substitute fielder for the injured Rishabh Pant on Day 3 of India's second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

His constant chatter from short leg appeared to unsettle Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva and wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan ******* wella, with both eventually getting out.
Before Manav Suthar bowled to Dhananjaya, the Sri Lankan captain stopped play because of movement behind the bowler's arm. Sarfaraz used the moment to distract him, telling him to focus on the ball instead.

"Nothing is there, bro. You are looking there. You are just wasting time, bro. Don't be scared. You are the captain. Come on, bro," he was heard saying on the stump mic.

Watch:
"Why are you worried about that side. Look straight," he added.

The tactic seemed to work soon after. Suthar dismissed Dhananjaya in the same over when the batter edged a tossed-up delivery. Dhruv Jurel's gloves deflected the ball towards slip, where KL Rahul eventually completed the catch. Dhananjaya was out for 8.
Sarfaraz continued his chatter when Niroshan ******* wella came to the crease. India also used short-pitched deliveries against the wicketkeeper-batter, a strategy that had worked in the first Test.

Despite the exchanges being accompanied by smiles, Sarfaraz had the final say when ******* wella gloved a delivery from Mohammed Siraj through to Jurel. His dismissal further strengthened India's position.

Earlier, India declared their first innings at 503/9. Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel scored centuries, while Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka's best bowler with four wickets.

Indianapolis Colts rookie Caden Curry experienced a moment he had been waiting for Saturday despite the team's 34-6 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Curry, a Greenwood native and former Center Grove High School standout, played his first NFL game at Lucas Oil Stadium after the Colts selected him in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL draft.
"A dream come true being an Indy kid and being from the south side," Curry said after the game, per WISH-TV. "Such a great feeling to go out there and be a part of this team now and be a part of this city."
The hometown appearance came one week after Curry made a quick impact in his preseason debut against the New England Patriots. The former Ohio State defensive end finished that game with five tackles, one sack, three quarterback hits, two tackles for loss and two passes defensed.
Saturday's result vs. the Falcons made the experience bittersweet for Curry, who totaled a single tackle.

Newcastle United's goalkeeping department has undergone a huge transformation this summer following the arrivals of two new goalies and the departure of on-loan Aaron Ramsdale.
All of that left Nick Pope facing the prospect of beginning the new Premier League season outside Matthias Jaissle's starting XI, if not entirely out of Tyneside, as there have been suggestions of a likely sale ahead of the new campaign.
The Magpies have spent heavily on two younger goalkeepers, paying £25.7 million (€29.8 million) for Lukas Hornicek from Braga and £18.5 million (€21.5 million) for Ewen Jaouen. Pope, meanwhile, has been omitted from Newcastle's last three preseason friendlies while entering the final year of his contract, and Jaissle already acknowledged that both sides were looking for a solution just over a week ago.
Despite all of those signs pointing toward a possible departure, talkSPORT has now reported that Pope has no intention of simply surrendering his Newcastle career and is prepared to compete with Hornicek for the No. 1 job.
"Nick Pope wants to stay at Newcastle and fight for his place, talkSPORT understands," the outlet reported. "Pope's status as the Magpies' number one goalkeeper is in doubt following the arrival of giant Czech stopper Lukas Hornicek."

Travis Hunter says he'd love to play every snap on both offense and defense for the Jaguars. But the Jaguars have other ideas.
Reporters in Jacksonville this week say Hunter is playing defense almost exclusively, a strong indication that the team plans for him to play mostly cornerback when the regular season starts. He'll likely see some snaps at wide receiver as well, but in a part-time role.
The Jaguars already had Hunter practicing more at cornerback than wide receiver before this week, but on Monday, it was all defense: Hunter got zero 11-on-11 snaps on offense, according to John Shipley of SI.com.
At Wednesday's joint practice with the Panthers, Hunter played 28 snaps on defense and two on offense, according to Garry Smits of the Florida Times-Union. Hunter actually did more at kicker than at wide receiver, although that appeared to be mostly messing around, and he missed four of his five field goal attempts, so it's safe to say the Jaguars won't be turning to him if kicker Cam Little gets hurt.
Jaguars coach Liam Coen indicated this week that when Hunter comes off the practice field on defense, the coaching staff would rather have Hunter continue watching the defense and taking mental reps than going to the other side and playing offense. That sure sounds like a coach who believes Hunter can help his team most on the defensive side of the ball.

The Yankees, on the strength of Trent Grisham, pulled out a 3-1 win over the Orioles on Tuesday night.
But the game could have been very different if not for ABS.
In the second inning with the game still scoreless, the Orioles loaded the bases thanks in large part to a fielding error by Jazz Chisholm Jr. after the second base umpire screened him on a groundball. What could have been an inning-ending doubleplay turned into a massive jam for Carlos Rodon and the Yankees.
Rodon would wind up striking out Carlos Narvaez before Jackson Holliday stepped into the batter's box with two outs. After Rodon got ahead 0-2, the southpaw threw a fastball away and a bit high. Holliday didn't bite, but Austin Wells hopped up to head into the dugout but stopped once he realized homeplate umpire Will Little didn't ring up the young Orioles infielder.
After a few seconds, ABS confirmed that it was a strike and the Yankees escaped.

Hark back to the era where teams 'gelling' was a thing. This can only be good news for us as a side, as this will be their first pre-season together.
I know, it's not always as straightforward as that, but I'm holding out hope that some of the young lads will kick on this season and become important members of the squad.
Would it be mad of me to say we should be aiming for the top ten again? I don't think so. If we do indeed improve as a team, we'll be a force to be reckoned with and if we bring some kids through doing it, even better!
I'm looking forward to our FA Cup quarter-final away tie the most.
Personally, I'd still like us to push for another top ten finish. Of course, our current depth may not allow for it but once we have the predicted four to five 'precise' signings in.

There's still over one month left in the 2026 Major League Baseball regular season.
While this is the case, rumors are already growing about where former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora could land next ahead of the 2027 season.
After the Red Sox fired Cora early on in the season, the Philadelphia Phillies immediately were interested. They even offered Cora their manager job, but the former Red Sox manager turned it down at the time. Philadelphia turned to Don Mattingly in an interim setting and turned their season around and now are in contention for a playoff spot.
While this is the case, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that Cora currently is expected to come in and take over as Philadelphia's manager after the season, barring some sort of deep playoff run.

RABAT, Morocco (AP) — Algeria defeated Morocco 3-2 on penalties to finish third at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday and leave its old rival with a bitter taste after failing to win any of the three editions in a row it has hosted.
Morocco's Nouhaila Benzina had the chance to seal victory in stoppage time with a penalty, but she struck the post and the match finished 1-1 to set up the shootout.
Benzina's spot kick was awarded after a VAR check penalized Algeria's Lana Smits for catching Sakina Ouzraoui in the face with a flailing arm. Ouzraoui stayed down and held her mouth as she waited for the referee's whistle.
Lina Boussaha had scored late for Algeria, canceling out Kautar Azraf's goal before the break for the hosts.
Algeria goalkeeper Chloe N'Gazin saved two penalties in the shootout, leaving Morocco coach Jorge Vilda – who won the World Cup with Spain in 2023 – nonplussed on the sideline.
