The late John Chaney used to say that he was the Black Knight. He wasn't talking about Batman, though. He was talking about the late Bob Knight and his explosive temper.
And there was some truth to that, because while Chaney was generally genial in everyday life, he too had a volcanic temper. And the general public never saw a more impressive demonstration of said temper than on February 13, 1994.
UMass had nipped Temple, 56-55, and Chaney had already made his comments to the media. Afterwards, though, believing that UMass coach John Calipari had badgered the officiating crew inappropriately, Chaney came back to the press room to confront his A-10 colleague, and briefly lost his mind.
He walked in from the back of the room and started yelling at Calipari about his supposed interaction with the officials, and when Calipari reasonably said "you weren't there and you don't know what happened," Chaney really exploded.
He told Calipari to "shut up!" and charged the podium. Others got in his way and restrained him, but Chaney yelled "I'll kill you! When I see you, I'm going to kick your ***** !"

CHENNAI: Ishan Kishan has developed a habit of saving his best for the big occasion. Last year, he led Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy ***** le and produced a match-winning century in the final, a performance that helped him earn his way back into India's T20I setup. A triple century seemed on the cards after he crossed 250, but Kishan said that personal landmarks never occupied his mind. Interestingly, he himself was unaware that it had been 10 years since he scored a first-class double century. "Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about 50, forget 300. I was only thinking about 50-run partnerships," Kishan said.
The double century came off 273 ***** . He then accelerated dramatically, reaching 250 in only 27 more ***** . But the intent, he said, was never to chase numbers. "I didn't change anything in my game plan. I was just batting normally. Once I got set, my thought was not to throw my wicket away. I have enough confidence in my shots to know that if I play well, I will either clear the field or find the gap," he said.
For Kishan, the most satisfying aspect of the innings was the temperament he showed. With East having won the toss and opted to bat, the priority was to build a total that would put South under pressure. "I would rate this innings very highly because I kept the team's goal ahead of my own runs. There were moments when I could have played more attacking shots, but the priority was to spend time in the middle, make good decisions and build a big total," he said.
That approach was shaped by a mindset Kishan believes has changed considerably during his time away from the Indian team. Having spent to two years grinding it out in domestic cricket, he said the experience taught him to simplify his game. "When you're playing for India regularly, sometimes you get into a flow and your growth can stagnate. Going back to domestic cricket makes you start from zero. You realise there are so many players scoring runs and that you have to perform better to get back," he said.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have been among the early contributors for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final, but it was captain Ishan Kishan who eventually stole the show with a breathtaking double century against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sooryavanshi opened the innings for East Zone and made a brisk 44 off 37 deliveries. During the match, former India cricketer and commentator Vivek Razdan used Kishan's remarkable innings to offer some advice to the teenage batter.
"Sooryavanshi sahab, now you have to learn from players like Ishan Kishan. Once you are set, you have to learn how to play a long innings," Razdan said on commentary.
The message came as Kishan continued to pile on the runs and turn the final into a one-sided contest.
Resuming on 385/4, East Zone's batters showed little sign of slowing down. South Zone turned to the new ball in search of wickets, but Mohammad Siraj and MD Nidheesh struggled to make an impact.

The Arizona Cardinals will play the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend to open the season. One big question facing them is whether rookie Jeremiyah Love will be able to play, as he has been dealing with a high ankle sprain.
There was good news on Monday.
Head coach Mike LaFleur expressed optimism that Love would be able to play, saying, "I feel good," when asked if he was optimistic that Love has a chance to play.
LaFleur tempered expectations a little, though.
"He was out there moving around today," he said. "We'll see on Wednesday. I will have a better idea for all those guys that I know you guys are going to ask about on Wednesday."

The Vols', 56-9, season-opening victory was the fifth game at Neyland Stadium with a kickoff temperature at or above 90 degrees.
The highest kickoff temperature at Neyland Stadium was 91 degrees versus Florida on Sept. 24, 2016.
Other football games with 90-degree temperatures were against ETSU on Sept. 8, 2018, Southern Miss on Sept. 8, 2007 and Wyoming on Sept. 4, 1999.

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville State football home opener with Eastern Kentucky has been delayed due to weather.
The delay came in the middle of the second quarter as a thunderstorm passed through Calhoun County. The delay started at 6:52 p.m. CT and will last 30 minutes past the last lightning strike in an eight-mile radius of AmFirst Stadium.
The Weather Channel gives a 24% chance of rain for the six and seven o'clock hours as scattered showers come through East Alabama. Another concern is the heat. As of 5:55 p.m., Jacksonville had a feel-like temperature of 105℉, with a temperature of 95℉.
The Gamecocks led 21-0 at the time of the delay thanks to three touchdowns by Jamill Williams, who connected with Caden Creel. There was 11:30 left in the second quarter.
The Gamecocks season started with a 33-7 blowout loss to North Dakota State as the Bison scored the final 26 points of the game. Jax State was held under 200 yards for the first time since 2021.

Colorado School of Mines and Washburn finished in a 16-16 tie after dangerous heat conditions prevented the Division II programs from playing overtime in Topeka, Kansas.
The game was originally scheduled for noon CT before officials moved it to 7:05 p.m. It was later shifted again, this time to 9:05 a.m., in an effort to avoid the worst of a heat wave affecting the region. Even the early start was not enough.

The 2-year-old − who will celebrate a ceremonial birthday alongside the university on Sept. 10 − follows in the paw prints of his 11 predecessors to become the first rescue dog to ***** ume the role as the University of Tennessee at Knoxville's mascot.
He dashed through the Power T formed by the Pride of the Southland Marching Band to start the season with the Sept. 5 opening game in Neyland Stadium against Furman.
UT unveiled Smokey XII in March after a search began in late 2025 to replace Smokey XI, who had to retire due to a reserved temperament that made him uncomfortable in public.
It was through East Tennessee's bluetick ***** hound rescue community that Smokey veterinarian Dr. Zenithson Ng first learned about Neyland, whose "bold, courageous and outgoing personality" immediately stood out upon meeting the young hound in December. The two Division II teams agreed to end their Saturday morning game tied at 16-16 after Colorado School of Mines missed a game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter. The game was set to go to overtime, but the wet bulb temperature had already exceeded the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics **** ociation's temperature protocols. Washburn, the home team, is a member of the MIAA.
The game had little chance of resuming anytime soon if the teams wanted to play overtime. Thanks to the heat dome that's currently occupying the middle part of the country, the temperature in Topeka was set to be around 100 degrees on Saturday with the heat index not dropping below 95 degrees until after sunset at 7:49 p.m.

Graig Hoffman will be inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame during halftime of the Knights' game against Bosse on Sept. 4. The 1993 graduate was a standout two-way lineman for Hall of Fame coach John Lidy before a successful collegiate career at the University of Louisville.

He becomes the fifth member of the Hall of Fame connected with Castle, joining Lidy, Joe Huff, Deon Chester, and Scott Bonnell. Kickoff is currently scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, but is subject to change due to high temperatures this week.
Hoffman was a dominant two-way starter in the trenches for the Knights, earning All-State honorable mention and All-Star Game selection as a senior. That final season was cut short by a knee injury – Hoffman played the first three before requiring midseason surgery. The 1992 Kiwanis Award winner returned for the final three games.

An investigation is ongoing after an Arizona State hockey player collapsed on the first day of workouts with the team this fall.
Sun Devils defenseman Matthew Mayich was participating in a workout on Aug. 20, the first day of Arizona State classes for the fall semester, when he collapsed. First responders arrived after calls of a heat-related illness, and Mayich was taken to a local hospital. He has since been transferred to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
Temperature at the time was reportedly between 87 and 89 degrees. The workout was being run by an ex-Green Beret soldier, too, who was leading the team through "grueling" drills, his attorney Robert Carey told the Arizona Republic on Monday. Multiple players told Carey that the former soldier, Tim Ziesel, "yelled at them from the get-go … like a drill instructor," and that they were told not to complain. Water, he said, was only available for those who led exercises.
Mayich allegedly showed obvious signs of distress and was unable to complete tasks throughout the workout.
"He was disoriented and struggled well before he collapsed," Carey said.
