Ash Gardner has spoken publicly for the first time about the alleged affair with teammate Georgia Voll that contributed to the breakdown of her marriage to Monica Wright.
Gardner said the situation became far more public than she expected and admitted she had been "naive" about the level of attention it would attract.
The controversy came to light earlier this year when Wright revealed the affair on social media. The relationship is believed to have begun during the Women's World Cup in India last year. Gardner has since apologised to Wright and said she has spent time reflecting on what happened.
Speaking to Australian outlet CODE Sports, Gardner acknowledged that her public image had taken a hit, saying, "My reputation has been tarnished with the public, but I guess something that I always try to strive to do when representing any team that I play in is be the best teammate that I can, and hopefully show what this team means to me when I'm playing for them."
The Australian vice-captain also said being a high-profile athlete means personal matters can attract intense public interest.
"Playing sport at a high level, you're open to having a platform, and sometimes with this comes interest from the public, and they want to know things about your personal life, and they invest, and then can make judgment either way of what you are or aren't doing."
Gardner admitted she was shocked when Wright publicly identified Voll, writing, "This is who my wife cheated on me with," alongside a photo of the teammate.
"I was certainly surprised, as you could imagine," Gardner said.
She added, "I certainly didn't expect the situation to take the path that it did, or to become as public as what it did. But I also understand that everyone has their own way of dealing with difficult situations."
Gardner said she now wants to focus on learning from the experience, having difficult conversations where necessary and moving forward with the Australian team.
She also said she understood Wright's perspective and tried to remain positive during what she described as a very difficult period.

Interested in Cardinal Health, Inc.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Cardinal Health expects growth to normalize in fiscal 2027 after fiscal 2026 benefited from unusually strong specialty growth, customer onboarding, acquisitions and solid healthcare utilization. Management said all five operating segments delivered double-digit earnings growth in fiscal 2026.
The company is expanding its specialty and at-home healthcare strategy through MSO platforms, bolt-on acquisitions and diabetes-related deals. Strive Medical has closed, while the AdaptHealth diabetes acquisition is expected to close in the second half of fiscal 2027, strengthening Cardinal's continuous glucose monitoring business.
Cardinal is prioritizing automated, small-parcel distribution of higher-value at-home products and plans to add three more automated distribution centers. Management also said cash flow was strong in fiscal 2026, putting the company about 90% of the way toward its previously announced $10 billion objective.

With the NWSL season in full swing, we take a look at several young players who are making their mark on the pitch. From amazing talent with the ball, incredible work-rates, and finishing abilities, these players embody the traits footballers strive for.
As teams try to make their way up the table to secure playoff spots, these players will be instrumental in their teams' success. Here are just six of many great young talents in the NWSL this season.
Melanie Barcenas is THAT player. As a defender, you know what that means. Nothing is more terrifying than being up against her one-on-one. Barcenas' control of the ball when it is at her feet is simply ridiculous. Her goal against Denver earlier this season was absolutely unfair.
One of the young players that has signed with NWSL sides, Barcenas was 15 when she first put pen to paper for San Diego. At 18 now, she is still growing and developing her game. Her talent is off the charts, and she matches it with a fierce energy and the exuberance of youth.

Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Nearly 25% of all ex-NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, according to a study published Tuesday.
The study was published in the British Medical Journal by researchers from Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University and other institutions.
Researchers worked to determine the range of possible prevalence of the degenerative brain disease at death among former NFL players and examine the link between CTE severity and risk of dementia.
More than 90% of the samples with stage IV CTE, the most advanced form of the disease, also were diagnosed with dementia.
"The NFL continuously strives to make the game of football safer, including by implementing strategies to reduce concussions and head impacts," the league said in a statement.

In this week's Injury Report, starting pitchers took some hits across baseball. The Rays lost Griffin Jax to an elbow injury. Nathan Eovaldi also went down with elbow inflammation. And Hunter Greene's season is over as he's set to undergo elbow surgery. Meanwhile, the Dodgers will welcome back Blake Snell on Tuesday against the Royals. All that and more as we highlight all of the most relevant injury news around baseball.
⚾️ Baseball is back! MLB returns to NBC and Peacock in 2026! In addition to becoming the exclusive home of Sunday Night Baseball, NBC Sports will broadcast MLB Sunday Leadoff, "Opening Day" and Labor Day primetime games, the first round of the MLB Draft, the entire Wild Card round of the postseason, and much more.
This one is a tough blow to the Rays. Jax was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the Mariners with right elbow soreness and placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow discomfort. The 31-year-old right-hander will get a second opinion, something that rarely foretells anything good. Jax has strived since moving from the bullpen and into the starting rotation, with a 3.16 ERA across 82 2/3 innings as a starter. Keep a lookout for an update in the coming days, but fantasy managers should probably be prepared to be without Jax the rest of the way. Michael Grove was recalled to take his spot on the active roster.
MLB Power Rankings: Slumping Dodgers fall out of No. 1 spot, Rays rolling once again
The Brewers reclaim the top spot while the Mariners and Guardians are trending in the wrong direction.

When Kroger introduced Greg Foran as its CEO earlier this year, the supermarket chain drew accolades for its decision to hire a new leader who had distinguished himself by turning around Walmart's U.S. operations.

Ahead of joining Kroger in February, Foran served as CEO of Air New Zealand. The perspective people develop over years working in other countries' retail sectors can give an edge over grocers that have not looked as far afield for leaders, industry ******* ysts said.

Jacob deGrom lasted only 3 1/3 innings and allowed five runs in a 5-4 loss to the Astros, and the Texas Rangers have lost four straight games ahead of the trade deadline.
HOUSTON — On the day he reached 10 years of MLB service time, a benchmark all players strive to reach, Brandon Nimmo told his Texas Rangers teammates that he's playing for more.
Not more seasons, though those will come, but more playoff opportunities, including the one that has somehow presented itself this season. Nimmo will celebrate 10 years later, he said, hopefully with champagne after the Rangers clinch a playoff spot.
Of more immediate concern is winning ballgames and the trade deadline. Nimmo said he was "worried" about that, wondering how everything is going to shake out across the league and on his own team.
He can't control what happens between now and Monday. He can control some of what happens on the field, and things aren't going particularly well for the Rangers and his longtime baseball buddy Jacob deGrom.

TAMPA, Fla. — During an Auburn football scrimmage this spring at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the program shared a snippet of one quarterback chatting with another. Those passers were Cam Newton and Byrum Brown, bridging generations of the program at one position.
The former doesn't need much introduction. He was a Heisman Trophy-winner and national champion on the Plains. The latter has yet to play a meaningful snap as a Tiger, but after helping South Florida turn around the past three seasons, he'll strive to do the same for his new home.
Stadium music drowned out all other noise in their 20-second introduction, but at SEC Media Days, Brown shared what the message was from one of Auburn's most-heralded former players.
"It was just go out there and be you," Brown said Tuesday, July 21. "Be a dog, and that's really it. Just go out there and be a dog and, like, you did at the past institution, will this team to victory."
Brown spent four seasons in total with the Bulls, but he was their starting quarterback for all three seasons of coach Alex Golesh's tenure.

US drug and medical supplies distributor Cardinal Health has simultaneously acquired urology-focused medical supplier Strive Medical and AdaptHealth's diabetes business in a deal duo totalling $360m that is positioned to advance its home care business service provision.
Regarding diabetes, the buyout of AdaptHealth's business unit follows Cardinal's buyout of Advanced Diabetes Supply (ADS) in April 2025.
Meanwhile, the acquisition of Strive Medical follows Cardinal's recent moves to advance its urology provision, with the $1.9bn buyout of Solaris Health in August 2025, Academic Urology & Urogynecology in the same month, and buyouts of Urology America and Potomac Urology in April 2025.
The latest acquisition duo is intended to support the advancement of Cardinal's at-home solutions business while expanding its ability to "deliver high-quality service at scale", the company stated.
"These strategic transactions build on the synergies created by our recent investments in home care," said Cardinal CEO Jason Hollar.

The New York Giants have a Super Bowl winner and possible Hall of Famer at head coach in John Harbaugh, with whom the entire team can strive for a championship standard the franchise has failed to meet for far too long now.
The standing ovation for Harbaugh from the ****** embled Giants fans inside Beacon Theatre back in May for the team's Town Hall event was only just the beginning.
And Harbaugh, their head coach set to usher in yet another new era for the franchise in its 102nd year, certainly knew how to play to his audience moments later.
With chants of "Cowboys suck" ringing out around him, Harbaugh was asked by a fan if he could promise the Giants were done being kicked around by their NFC rivals and most hated foes: the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.

There are so many individual factors that went into the New York Knicks' historic playoff run that ultimately culminated in the franchise's first NBA championship in over 50 years, but above all else that quality that got them through it all was their connectivity.
That quality and the Knicks' devotion to it was something that both the Knicks players and their coach Mike Brown spoke about often as they were torching their opponents on the way to the NBA Finals. No one made it about themselves, no one strived for credit and whenever the occasion arose, they were quick to praise one another.
To win a NBA championship obviously takes talent and athleticism, but there's also so many layers of intangible qualities that go into making a team successful, above all else their connection and devotion to one another, what some call the power of friendship.
The Knicks had that in abundance and it was a quality that stood out so much that Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves pointed to their connection as the main driving force of their championship during an interview with Dan Patrick during the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
"I think that shows on the basketball court," Reaves said (via Heavy.com). "They care for one another. They play for one another. And that's... something you want to build."

With his dynamic personality and contagious smile, it's easy to understand why Rocco Becht's teammates at Iowa State and now at Penn State gravitate toward him.
He's engaging, friendly and open even to strangers. Spend several minutes with him and it's hard not to notice that or the seven colorful bracelets he wears on his wrists.
Each one means something special to Becht, but none more than the blue one with gold letters that says, "Share Your Ivan Smile."
Ivan, Becht's younger cousin, was born with Down syndrome. He died suddenly four years ago at the age of 6 from an undetected heart-related problem.
"There wasn't a day that would go by without that kid smiling," Becht said. "He's honestly one of my biggest whys. He wasn't able to do what normal people can do, but he always smiled. For me to go out there and play my heart out for him is something I strive for every single day."

Point Park University in Pittsburgh has been approved for full NCAA Division II membership, effective Sept. 1.
The university reports that it completed its three-year provisional membership process in just two years after a waiver was approved by the NCAA.
The waiver was granted after Point Park met all NCAA compliance, academic and operational benchmarks a year early, transitioning from NAIA, officials say.
"Point Park is proud to be a member of both the Mountain East Conference and NCAA Division II," Point Park University President Chris W. Brussalis said. "We are honored that the NCAA recognized our athletic performance and commitment enough to waive a third provisional year and grant us full membership. We could not have done this without the unwavering support of the MEC and look forward to competing in the conference for many years to come."
"Today's news is historic for Point Park University and our entire downtown community," Athletics Vice President Scott Swain said. "Over the past two years, our student-athletes, staff, donors and community have strived for excellence with NCAA membership being the goal, today that hard work and commitment has paid off. NCAA membership will help our university grow – including enrollment, sponsorship, and achievements - both athletically and academically."

The Washington Huskies' offense lost more this offseason than it added. There are major questions about which player will step up to ensure Demond Williams Jr. has what he needs to lead this offense. So far, early buzz is leaning toward the Huskies' junior tight end. In a recent article, Roman Tomashoff highlights a player the Washington Huskies are feeling confident about this upcoming season. Here is what the coaches are saying about Decker Degraaf:
"I think the best thing about Decker is he'd tell you that he left so much on the table," tight ends coach Jordan Paopao said of DeGraaf during spring practice.
"Some of the drops that him and I talked about, just in terms of Illinois, some of the drops on the sideline, I believe it was the UC Davis game, you know, being able to be consistent and reliable, and to really catch the ball away from his body, I think has been one of the biggest things that he's gonna try and work on and continue to strive for. But that's what I love about the kid, I think he is very adamant about making sure that it's always an itch that you just can't quite scratch in terms of consistent improvement, daily improvement."
Demond Williams Jr. will be easier to stop if he does not have a reliable playmaker to look to on a consistent basis. From the coach's confidence, it looks like Williams will have that guy this season in DeGraaf. Williams and DeGraaf will have 5 weeks to strengthen their connection, and their match-up vs USC could come down to whether or not those two are on the same page.

Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) is one of the most promising healthcare stocks according to Wall Street ******* ysts. On June 6, Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) released new clinical results for two of its next-generation diabetes management systems, which management described as strong and that bring the company closer to making the systems a reality.

The two diabetes systems are Omnipod 6 and a fully closed-loop (FCL) system for type 2 diabetes. In the first study, dubbed STRIVE pivotal trial, the company compared the current Omnipod 5 with Omnipod 6 and found that the latter improved time in tight range by 7% for type 1 adults and by 5% for type 2 patients. Overall time in range also improved across both groups. The results also show that the new system delivered up to 50% more automated insulin.
Another key finding from STRIVE was that Omnipod 6 performed far better even when patients bolused less. The company explained that this matters because one of the biggest reasons people with diabetes don't hit their targets is inconsistency in remembering or choosing to manually dose for meals. Omnipod 6 compensates for that gap.
The other study, dubbed EVOLUTION 3, achieved 64% time in range, which is a 12% improvement over baseline. The system also cut total daily insulin from 86 units down to 58 units with no accompanying weight gain, and 86% of participants reported being satisfied or highly satisfied with the system.

On June 6, Insulet announced promising new clinical trial results for its next-generation tubeless Automated Insulin Delivery/AID systems, presented at the American Diabetes ******* ociation's 86th Scientific Sessions. The STRIVE pivotal trial for the upcoming Omnipod 6 showed strong glycemic outcomes and improved responsiveness to hyperglycemia, noting that the system can deliver up to 50% more automated insulin while reducing the need for manual boluses across various age groups and diabetes types.

BRUSSELS, June 17 (Reuters) - A group of investors including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has sought EU antitrust approval for its $55 billion acquisition of videogame developer Electronic Arts, according to a European Commission filing on Wednesday.
The Commission, which acts as the EU competition enforcer, set a July 22 deadline for its decision. It can either clear the deal with or without remedies or open a full-scale investigation if it has serious concerns.
The group, which includes Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners and private equity firm Silver Lake, announced the deal for the maker of "Battlefield" and "Madden NFL" in September last year.
The PIF, Saudi Arabia's $1 trillion wealth fund, is betting on the enduring value of blockbuster game franchises as the industry recovers and the kingdom strives to become a global hub for games and sports.
The deal, which is expected to secure EU antitrust approval, will also need approval under EU rules aimed at preventing unfair foreign subsidies granted to companies to acquire rivals.
