ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Arike Ogunbowale scored 18 points, Jessica Shepard had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the Dallas Wings beat the Connecticut Sun 97-71 on Sunday night in the final game before the FIBA World Cup break.
The Wings (24-16) have won four in a row and have their most wins in a season since 2007, when the franchise won 24 straight as the Detroit Shock. The Shock won a franchise-record 25 games in 2003 on their way to the first of three WNBA championships.
Dallas moved into a three-way tie with New York and Washington for sixth in the WNBA standings, two games back of Indiana and Atlanta.
Shepard had her 22nd double-double this season, second most in the WNBA — after Angel Reese with 29 — to extend the franchise record. Paige Bueckers added 15 points and six ***** ists and Maddy Siegrist scored 11 for Dallas.
Aaliyah Edwards scored 21 of her career-best tying 26 points in the first half for the Sun (10-30). Charlisse Leger-Walker hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.

Caitlin Clark's surprise defensive highlight sends Fever fans into frenzy originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Caitlin Clark endured one of her most difficult offensive performances of the season Thursday, but the Indiana Fever star still found a way to produce one of the night's most memorable highlights. Clark finished with 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting as the Fever suffered a 91-85 road loss to the Dallas Wings. The defeat snapped Indiana's five-game winning streak and dropped the team to 24-13.
The two-time All-Star was unable to find a consistent scoring rhythm, but she contributed four rebounds, nine ****** ists, one steal and one block. That lone rejection quickly attracted attention after the Fever shared a slow-motion replay of it.
"Caitlin Clark sends it back," Indiana wrote on Instagram.
The play unfolded midway through the second quarter when Arike Ogunbowale found Maddy Siegrist moving toward the basket. Siegrist appeared to have a favorable matchup. The Wings forward stands 6-foot-2, while Clark is a 6-foot guard who is known far more for her scoring and passing than her shot-blocking ability.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Maddy Siegrist would prefer to see her WNBA career blossom into something more than being a good luck charm.
At the same time, her role in fortune twice smiling on the Dallas Wings puts the fourth-year player in her best position yet to win. And maybe that can be a springboard for the NCAA Division I scoring champion from the year before Caitlin Clark took that ****** le.
"I think just realizing sometimes you feel like you've been here a long time, but realizing you're 26 years old and the best basketball is ahead of you," said Siegrist, the No. 3 overall pick out of Villanova in 2023. "So you've just got to lean on your preparation, when the opportunity comes. Every time I step on the floor, just feeling confident in whatever my team needs me to do."
Going into each of the past two seasons, the Wings needed Siegrist to represent the team at the draft lottery.
After winning the right to the No. 1 pick and selecting Paige Bueckers last year, the Wings told Siegrist she had to do it again coming off a 10-win season that matched the WNBA's worst.

The coach of former Sheffield United footballer Maddy Cusack told the Football ***** ociation (FA) she was "generally a liar", an inquest into her death has heard.
Cusack, 27, was found unconscious by her father David at their family home in Horsley, Derbyshire, on 20 September 2023 and was ***** ounced dead the same day.
Jonathan Morgan, who coached Cusack from February 2023 while she was at Sheffield United, gave evidence to a two-week inquest at Chesterfield Coroner's Court on Monday.
When responding to the claim, which the inquest heard was made in an account he gave to the FA, Morgan said that she had "omitted a lot of information" when she spoke to her family about his behaviour.
The inquest has previously heard from Grace Riglar, who played for the team and was in a relationship with Cusack, who said Cusack was "anxious" about Morgan joining the club after her experience of working with him at Leicester City.

Former Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack was concerned she would be stigmatised and ridiculed over her mental health, an inquest has heard.
The 27-year-old was found dead at her home in Horsley, Derbyshire, on 20 September 2023.
Her father, David Cusack, told Chesterfield Coroner's Court that being reunited with a coach she did not like and changes to her contract had left her demotivated.
He said: "We thought she was depressed, not suicidal."
David Cusack told the court life had been made "unpleasant" for his daughter by coach Jonathan Morgan while she played for Leicester City.

SEATTLE — Few NHL teams are located in cities farther away from Sunrise, Florida, than Mackie Samoskevich's new employer.
Samoskevich, previously of the Florida Panthers, was traded to the Seattle Kraken for the No. 25 pick this year and a second-rounder next year, which the Panthers then flipped to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk hours later. The Kraken also re-signed fellow forward Bobby McMann to a long-term contract.
Thankfully for the 23-year-old Samoskevich, his twin sister, Maddy, can give him plenty of tips on how to make the cross-continent move.
Maddy, who played college hockey in Connecticut at Quinnipiac, is a defender for the Vancouver Goldeneyes of the Professional Women's Hockey League.
"With her only being a couple hours away, it's definitely a topic that came up right away," Samoskevich said on a Zoom call. "I'll be able to see her a little more, which will be great."

Alexa Demie is comfortable with her "level" of fame, although that may change following the finale of the hit HBO show Euphoria.

In a profile in The Hollywood Reporter, Demie, who plays Maddy Perez on Euphoria, confirms she's seen all of the opinions on her relatively lowkey stardom as sent to her by friends, and she's content with where she is.

"It's like, did you ever think that I don't want it?" she said of her status in Hollywood. "People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn't change it."
Demie also expressed gratitude for her breakout role as Perez, propelling her into a spotlight that is at odds with her more private self. "If I didn't have that experience, I'd be hiding up there like Enya," she explained, gesturing to the Hollywood hills, similar to how singer Enya famously lives in a large, secluded mansion. "But that life is always there for me, and what I'm learning is that I can have both."
In other news, Demie also confirmed she's not retiring from acting. The unverified rumors were taken out of context from an interview she did on The A24 Podcast where she complained to Nathan Fielder that early in her career, the actress was disheartened by being passed over in favor of white actresses.

Alexa Demie has addressed rumours suggesting she is planning to retire from acting.
Ever since the third and final season of HBO drama Euphoria went into production, speculation has circulated online that the actress, who plays Maddy Perez, wanted to leave Hollywood as soon as the show wrapped.
Asked about the gossip in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter published on Sunday, Alexa insisted she has no plans to stop acting.
"Should we just ride with it?" she grinned to the outlet.
Alexa went on to emphasise that she prefers a quiet life and has become adept at taking on opportunities that really interest her.
"It's like, did you ever think that I don't want it?" the 35-year-old continued. "People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? I like my life like this, and I wouldn't change it."
