PARIS (AP) — Chanel's artistic director Matthieu Blazy sent the fashion house's suits stretching towards sportswear and evening dresses drifting through clouds, with Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa and Pedro Pascal in the audience as he unveiled his spring-summer 2027 collection.
The Monday night show underscored that a year into his creative revival, Blazy has made the house feel newly unpredictable.
The former Bottega Veneta designer succeeded Virginie Viard, who took over after Karl Lagerfeld 's death in 2019. Viard's tenure brought record sales but Blazy's contribution has been to restore a sense that Chanel's familiar ingredients can produce something unexpected.
That renewal is visible in his treatment of the house's symbols: tweed can stretch; formal jackets sit against bare skin; quilted bags turn slouchy.
The appeal lies in giving established clients something recognizable, and newer ones something to reinterpret.

This summer, we took a family vacation to Oregon to hike in the Pacific Northwest. Not surprisingly, we saw a bunch of people decked out in clothing made by Columbia, the huge sportswear company founded in Portland in 1938, and named for the nearby river.
We also saw a lot of people wearing Patagonia clothes. Named after the vast geographic region at the southern tip of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile, Patagonia was founded by climber Yvon Chouinard in 1973 to provide durable climbing equipment and outdoor wear. The company heavily supports environmental causes and donates profits from the sale of their jackets, fleeces and other gear to ecological protection. The company even sued President Trump in 2017, for shrinking federal lands protections.
In addition to environmental causes, Patagonia has also championed the LGBTQ community by partnering with the Human Rights Campaign to oppose state legislation targeting their rights. This summer, though, the company sued one member of that community.
Wyn Wiley is an activist from Bend, Oregon, who focuses on environmental and LGBTQ+ issues, promoting acceptance of queer identities in the environmentalist and outdoors communities, and promoting awareness of climate change and its effects.
In October of 2018, Wiley created the character Pattie Gonia and produced short-form outdoors activism content on Instagram and TikTok, while dressing in drag. The first posted video garnered more than 100 million views. Pattie Gonia has 1.8 million Instagram followers and claims to have raised $3.7 million for environmental causes, including $1 million raised last year on a 100-mile hike. In 2022, Pattie Gonia partnered with The North Face, another outdoor gear juggernaut, for their 2022 "Summer of Pride" series, which consisted of outdoor community-building events focused on local LGBTQ+ engagement and acceptance.

On Monday, Sept. 21, Sandisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) takes a spot in the S&P 100, a subset of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) made up of 100 of its largest blue-chip companies. Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, and Arista Networks enter with it. The announcement came from S&P Dow Jones Indices on Sept. 4, and the changes take effect before Monday's open.
Four companies are leaving to make room: Nike (NYSE:NKE), Colgate-Palmolive, Simon Property Group, and Honeywell Aerospace.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The swap says a lot about how 2026 has gone. Sandisk shares have gained more than 600% this year, more than any other stock in the S&P 500.
Nike's stock, meanwhile, reached a 52-week low this week. And Sandisk, worth about $260 billion, is currently more than four times the size of the roughly $54 billion sportswear giant.

On Holding's (ONON) entry into the soccer category through a partnership with World Cup champion Kylian Mbappé marks the latest step for the company as it aims to tread its own path as a premium global sports brand.
The Swiss sportswear company signed Mbappé, whose contract with Nike (NKE) expired this past summer after seven years, beating out competitors such as Adidas (ADS.DE) and Under Armor (UA) for a partnership with the soccer superstar.
The company did not disclose the size of the deal. As part of the announcement, soccer pundit Thierry Henry was named the company's director of football, after working with the brand since 2025.
"The announcement is a direct challenge to Nike and Adidas (which have a near-monopoly in the category)," Evercore ISI ******* yst Michael Binetti wrote in a note to clients. "We expect a major investment in a large global category will be a positive near-term catalyst for the stock."
On stock rose slightly after the deal was announced, but shares remain down 40% year to date amid a challenging retail environment for sneaker stocks. Nike's stock fell 2% on Friday.

New York has a new franchise quarterback and, as it turns out, a new face in the modeling world too. While New York Giants second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart prepares for what could be a career-defining sophomore season under first-year head coach John Harbaugh, his girlfriend Marissa Ayers has been quietly building something of her own in the city. This week, she shared it with the world after hitting a big personal milestone.
Ayers posted a vlog across her social media channels documenting her first-ever professional photo shoot, which took place in New York City. The shoot was for Terez, a women's sportswear brand, and Ayers was chosen as the face of the brand's entire New York Giants line. The images are set to drop next week.
"Today was a lifelong dream of mine," Ayers said in a TikTok vlog. "I modeled for the first time in New York City. It was also my very first photo shoot ever, being on set in a studio."
Ayers is a former ring girl and has done brand collaborations as a model before. However, this was her first time modeling for a website, as she clarified in a comment to a fan who ******* umed she was already modeling professionally.
Jaxson Dart's got a lot riding on his second season with the Giants. Follow along as he takes the next step in New York. Subscribe for more interesting stories.

Rihanna put her signature spin on off-duty dressing while stepping out in New York City. The singer was photographed checking out of her hotel before heading to Paris. She turned the sidewalk into her personal runway, wearing a denim micro miniskirt paired with a Miu Miu tracksuit jacket.
For the outing, Rihanna paired a sporty pink Miu Miu tracksuit jacket with an ultra-short dark-wash denim miniskirt. The micro silhouette sat high on her thighs, with its raw, frayed hem revealing flashes of a contrasting white layer underneath. The skirt featured an asymmetrical detail at the front, adding to its deconstructed feel. Rihanna wore it low on the hips, adding a relaxed look to its barely-there length.
On top, her Miu Miu jacket brought a distinctly retro sportswear element to the ensemble. The bubblegum pink zip-up featured white stripes running down the sleeves. Furthermore, it had ribbed cuffs, a ribbed hem, and a high collar that Rihanna wore partially popped. A small Miu Miu logo in white appeared on the chest.
She elevated the casual pairing with a set of strappy white heels, bringing a glamorous finish to the sporty denim combination. Rihanna also carried a roomy black quilted Dior handbag that was perfect for traveling. Additionally, the star wore a silver bracelet on one wrist.
Her accessories continued with large hoop earrings, a wide gold choker, and oversized red-tinted aviator sunglasses. She wore her dark hair in voluminous curls, while a bright red manicure provided another pop of color against the pink jacket. The singer opted for a bronzed look, featuring soft pink cheeks and a super-glossy lip.

Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA)'s long-running turnaround just got tougher. On August 7, the athletic clothing manufacturer forecasted a sharper annual revenue decline, and investors responded by sending shares down as much as 9% in early trade, showing the market's lack of patience for a recovery story that is being pushed further out.
The headline number is the forecast drop itself: Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA) now expects full-year revenue to fall by a mid-single-digit percentage, a significant decrease from its previous target of only a "slight decline." The breakdown is centered right where it hurts the most. Under Armour's North America sector, its largest market by far, saw revenue fall 9% to $609.8 million in the fiscal quarter ended June 30. During the post-earnings call, CFO Reza Taleghani didn't sugarcoat the forecast, telling investors that the company is expecting a more difficult consumer environment, notably in North America and parts of Asia Pacific, to continue through the second quarter.
The pressures behind the miss are largely macro, but they aggravate a company-specific issue. Ongoing inflation and a more difficult consumer-spending environment have caused buyers to be more careful about discretionary purchases such as apparel, footwear, and accessories, a trend that has impacted the whole sportswear industry, not just Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA). Morningstar ******* yst David Swartz put it bluntly: the sportswear market is struggling right now, and tariff-related cost constraints aren't helping. On top of the macro pressure is a competitive one. Buyers are increasingly moving toward newer, innovation-focused companies such as On and Hoka.
CEO Kevin Plank, who returned to the position in 2024 to create a turnaround, has pursued a strategy based on doing less, better. The company has reduced its product ******* ortment by about 25%, focusing on higher-priced items in sectors such as training, running, and team sports rather than competing across price points. Plank's own definition of the plan was pointed: consumers do not need more choices, but rather better ones. Under that idea, Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA) has introduced new goods geared in part at attracting younger Gen Z customers, including training shoes such as the "Surge 5" and "Radiant TR".
That strategic reset did not come cheap. Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA) stated it had spent $266 million on restructuring and transformation efforts thus far, with the overall turnaround plan scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

US sportswear retailer Nike will bar major wholesale partners in China from selling its products online from January, shifting sales to its own branded storefronts instead.
The change means most of Nike's 16 store partners in China, which together own and operate thousands of Nike outlets, will stop selling online and shift entirely to in-store retail.
"Our marketplace has become so fragmented and cluttered. What consumers want is an experience that's premium, true to the brand, trustworthy, and certainly connected between digital and physical", Cathy Sparks, vice-president and Greater China general manager at Nike told Reuters.
Sales will instead be redirected to Nike-branded storefronts on Tmall, JD.com and Douyin, as well as its own website and app.
According to the company, the move aims to reduce marketplace fragmentation, restore consumer confidence, and back full-price sales.

Nike (NYSE:NKE) shares slipped 1.4% in premarket trading on Tuesday after Evercore ISI downgraded the sportswear giant to In Line from Outperform and reduced its price target to $46 from $57.
The brokerage cited weakening sales trends, limited product innovation and growing concerns that Nike may need to lower market expectations ahead of a key investor event later this year.
Nearly two years into Nike's turnaround strategy, Evercore said its latest channel checks continue to reveal signs of pressure across several important parts of the business.
The firm pointed to worsening conditions in U.S. lifestyle and family retail channels, where order cancellations and delayed purchases are reportedly exceeding company expectations.
Analysts also highlighted softer demand for recent Jordan retro product launches and supply chain disruptions in Europe that have delayed the arrival of World Cup-related merchandise.

There will be blood, sweat and tears on players’ soccer jerseys at the World Cup — and plenty of deeper cultural and historical meaning, too.
Here, The ******* ociated Press runs you through some of the more compelling — and controversial — backstories from the kit designs on show in soccer’s biggest event, currently taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
For its World Cup debut, the smallest nation by population at the tournament is paying homage to the roughly 525,000 inhabitants who live on 10 volcanic islands off the coast of Africa. A geometric, triangular print across its blue (home) and white (away) jerseys represents the network of flight paths that connect the islands. The idea is that the people of Cape Verde are united behind the players at the World Cup — and that togetherness showed as the team held firm to seal an unlikely 0-0 draw with heavily favored Spain in their first match.
“This is not a jersey,” reads a message on the collar of Belgium's multicolor away shirt. No, the Belgians aren't losing their minds. It's just a nod to the European nation's surrealist heritage — and notably the work of its master in this artistic movement from the early 20th century. Throughout his career, Belgian artist René Magritte questioned the enigmatic relationship of mind and eye, reality and language, writing under “The Treachery of Images” — his iconic painting of a pipe — the words: “Ceci n’est pas une pipe (This is not a pipe).” The light-blue jersey features pink patterns and black detailing, incorporating soccer-inspired motifs such as pitch lines and a ball. “True to the surrealism theme, the kit sparks the imagination and invites conversation,” the Belgian federation says.
The original jersey submitted by this Caribbean nation — another World Cup debutant — included a depiction of the final battle of the Haitian War of Independence in 1803 on its front. In the words of Colombian sportswear manufacturer Saeta, it was a “tribute to the men and women who contribute every day to Haiti’s future.” It didn't go down too well with FIFA, which rejected the image during its approval process, deeming it too political. So an updated blue soccer kit was needed, one that no longer includes the battle artwork.

The company said its board had approved a simplified absorption-type company split that will see the Onitsuka Tiger business transferred to a wholly owned subsidiary, OT GROUP Corporation, with the reorganisation scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027.
The move follows a period of accelerated growth for Onitsuka Tiger, driven by expanding international operations and rising brand awareness. ASICS said the brand has been focused on growing its network of directly operated stores while working to establish itself as a “luxury lifestyle brand”.
Through this reorganisation, the company will transition the Onitsuka Tiger Business to a more independent operating structure. Regional subsidiaries responsible for functions including sales and manufacturing will operate under the new entity.
This move is expected to enable faster decision-making and enhance the creation of competitiveness tailored to the brand’s unique characteristics. In addition, across the ASICS Group as a whole, the company will strengthen its governance framework while enhancing the visibility of business performance by segment and clarifying management accountability.
"Through these measures, the Company aims to further enhance the brand value of Onitsuka Tiger, achieve sustainable business growth, and increase the overall corporate value of the ASICS Group," said the ****** anese sportswear giant.
