Before the European's made their historic comeback at the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah, Ian Poulter had to make five birdies in a row to help him and Rory McIlroy win their Saturday match and trim Team USA's lead to 10-6 heading into Sunday.
"This has given us a heartbeat," Poulter said that Saturday night. One day later, the Europeans had stormed back to ****** the Ryder Cup away from the Americans in historic fashion. But the comeback all started with Poulter creating momentum out of thin air for his team to feed off — creating belief.
On Sunday at the 51st Walker Cup, Great Britain and Ireland faced a similar mountain to climb. After getting whitewashed in the morning foursomes, GB&I entered Sunday singles trailing the Americans by three points. The Americans needed just 3.5 points from their 10 matches to retain the cup and four to win outright. GB&I captain Dean Robertson believed his team could mount the biggest comeback in Walker Cup history, but first it needed a pulse.
Enter: 33-year-old mid-amateur Stuart Grehan.
The Irishman already authored a Walker Cup moment to remember on Saturday when he won the final three holes of his match against World No. 1 amateur Preston Stout to steal a crucial point. After pouring in the winning putt on Saturday, Grehan and his son were mobbed by Irish fans as chants of "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole" filled the air.

COUNTY CLARE, Ireland (AP) — British Amateur champion Stuart Grehan didn't flinch when he was 3 down after three holes against the No. 1 amateur in golf. The Irishman rallied to beat Preston Stout on the 18th hole Saturday as Great Britain and Ireland took a one-point lead over the Americans in the Walker Cup.
Luke Poulter of England held off 17-year-old Miles Russell in the last singles match on the course, giving GB&I a 6 1/2-5 1/2 lead going into the final day at Lahinch as it tries to beat the Americans for the first time since 2015.
GB&I had a three-point lead after the opening day its last time on home soil, in 2023 at St. Andrews, only for the Americans to win 10 of the 14 matches on Sunday. The Americans had a one-point lead last year at Cypress Point and lost only one of the 10 singles matches in a 17-9 win.
"We're ahead, but we need to reset for tomorrow," said Poulter, the son of Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter and a senior at Florida. He turned the match in his favor with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole and a stellar up-and-down on the par-3 16th.
The crowd created a big atmosphere as it walked the fairways behind matches and surrounded the greens on the fabled links along the Atlantic coast in the west of Ireland.

Kevin Kisner has admitted that he would be furious with the PGA Tour if he was Brandt Snedeker over the choice of golf course for the 2026 Presidents Cup.
Being captain of the US Presidents Cup team is probably quite a thankless task given that the International side have managed to win on just one occasion since the tournament began in 1994.
While it feels important for the event that there is a close match this year, Snedeker will know what a win for the International Team would mean for his reputation.
It is unlikely to do his chances of being a Ryder Cup captain in the future many favours.
Returning to Medinah may concern some American fans, given that it was the site of one of the greatest comebacks in Ryder Cup history in 2012.

BIRMINGHAM, England — Joe Dean, a former grocery delivery driver ranked No. 292, captured his first DP World Tour ***** le by shooting 9-under 63 to win the British Masters with his wife on the bag on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Englishman started the final round seven strokes off the lead at The Belfry but made nine birdies — including four on his last six holes — to finish the week on 14-under par and move into the lead with the late starters still having holes to play.
No one could catch him, with four players — Nacho Elvira (69), third-round leader Daniel Hillier (73), Niklas Norgaard (71) and Jakob Skov Olesen (71) — tying for second place, three shots back.
This was the first tournament in Team Europe's qualifying process for next year's Ryder Cup, so that's suddenly an unlikely target for Dean — quite the turn of events for someone who spent time delivering groceries during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and kept doing it for nearly four years to help fund his career when he didn't have a card.
"I enjoyed it for most of the time," Dean said of his old part-time job. "Obviously it's a completely different life, a completely different lifestyle. I still see the vans going up and down the road every now and then, and I keep in touch."

Margaret Qualley brought high fashion to the outdoors in her stunning new cover story. Photographed by Talia Ryder and styled by Taylor McNeill for POP Magazine Issue 55 (Autumn/Winter 2026), the actress looked effortlessly glamorous. She effortlessly layered a shimmering designer look straight off the Chanel runway with her own relaxed streetwear pieces. Thus, her bold styling choices proved that classic tweed and sparkling textures can feel completely modern and cool.
For the Pop Magazine cover shot, Margaret Qualley sat outdoors while holding a small, adorable grey dog in her arms. She wore a striking ensemble from Chanel's Fall/Winter 2026 collection. Her outfit started with a classic tweed jacket. The jacket was woven with metallic gold, beige, and black plaid patterns. It featured vibrant red trim along the lapels and red ***** on details. The red accents also added a bold pop of color to the textured outer layer.
Beneath the jacket, Qualley wore her own bright red hoodie. The simple hoodie brought a playful street-style contrast to the luxury outfit. She paired the top layers with a blinding, iridescent metallic skirt. The shimmering skirt caught the light with rainbow-hued metallic tones.
What made the skirt stand out most was its daring silhouette. It was designed with not just one, but two dangerously high slits along the front. The double-slit cuts added plenty of movement and drama to the knee-length metallic piece.
With her long, dark hair draped naturally over one shoulder under the red hood, Qualley posed with a playful, candid facial expression. Her fresh-faced makeup and relaxed pose brought an easygoing, cool-girl vibe to the high-fashion Chanel look. Moreover, she pulled off a daring style risk with ease. By pairing high-end runway pieces with everyday wardrobe staples, Qualley created an unforgettable fashion moment that felt both bold and accessible.

There is no shortage of picture-perfect smiles in Hollywood. From super-straight veneers to blinding pearly whites, it's rare to see any crooked or yellow-stained teeth on the red carpet. Yet, for decades, Johnny Depp rejected the trend, embracing his imperfect grin.
In 2024, however, the Alice in Wonderland actor surprised fans by debuting a dramatically transformed set of teeth.
Here, we look back at Johnny's smile evolution over the years, from his "rotten" tooth in the 90s to his gold caps in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Johnny's smile has evolved significantly over the years. He showcased his natural pearly whites in a 1990 headshot – the same year he starred opposite Winona Ryder in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, which was followed by a string of big-screen hits including What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), Benny & Joon (1993), and Sleepy Hollow (1999).
Over thirty years ago, Johnny insisted that he would never have a "perfect" set of gnashers.

In front of a home crowd for the first time this season, No. 3 Florida State soccer shut out FAU, 3-0, on Thursday, Aug. 20, to extend the Seminoles' unbeaten run in regular-season non-conference games to 36.
It's another unbeaten start to the year for FSU, which carries a five-game shutout streak that dates back to last season's College Cup. Through three games this season, the Seminoles have outscored opponents 9-0, and forward Tanner Strickland leads the team with two goals scored this season, one of which came against FAU.
Strickland opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Anaiyah Robinson made a strong run down the right wing, and she fired a cross into the box moments before the ball went out of bounds. Strickland crashed the back post and dove towards the ball to steer home a header and put the Seminoles up 1-0. It was the first first-half goal for FSU this season.
FSU remained on the front foot and went into the halftime break ahead 1-0. In the 63rd minute, freshman Ryder Ajeto opened her collegiate account with a smart finish off an ****** ist from Ashlyn Henderson.
Henderson got on the ball in the penalty box, and she played a defense-splitting pass to Ajeto, who took a touch before her right-footed strike overpowered FAU goalkeeper Nikki Holland. In the 82nd minute, the Seminoles got a third thanks to an own goal. A loose ball bounced around after a corner kick, and it deflected off an FAU defender before rolling into the net.

Layoffs and facility closures are mounting across U.S. freight, distribution and manufacturing networks, with more than 7,000 jobs affected by recently announced workforce reductions involving companies ranging from Tyson Foods and FedEx to Ryder, CJ Logistics America and Daimler Truck.
The largest reduction comes from Tyson Foods, which is reportedly eliminating more than 3,000 jobs as it closes facilities in Joslin, Illinois, and Eagle Mountain, Utah. The food giant said it is shifting beef operations toward Nebraska, Kansas and Texas amid what it described as a historic cattle shortage.
Wholesale distributor Essendant also warned of sweeping cuts affecting more than 1,200 employees across six states as the company attempts to secure additional capital or find a buyer.
WARN notices show approximately 644 jobs affected in Illinois, 192 in Georgia, 150 in Pennsylvania, 136 in Texas, 103 in California and 53 in Arizona. The reductions are scheduled to begin Oct. 3. The company has warned that it could cease operations and liquidate if financing or a sale cannot be secured.
The announcements are part of a broader wave of restructuring hitting transportation, warehousing, fulfillment and manufacturing operations.

Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach will take on Oklahoma senior Ryder Cowan in the first round of the U.S. Amateur match play on Aug. 12 at the Merion Country Club in Ardmore, Pa.
The two will tee off at 1:50 p.m.
Russell tied for fifth in the 36-hole stroke player qualifier on Aug. 11 and is the sixth seed in match play. Cowan birdied the first playoff hole, the par-3 13th, to join 10 other players who had to battle in a 16-for-11 playoff for the final spots in the 64-player field for match play.
Russell, 17 and a verbal commit to Florida State in 2027, has already reached the championship match of the U.S. Junior Amateur and the semifinals of the Western Amateur this summer.
Russell was the co-medalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur and the medalist at the Western Amateur. He breezed through five matches in the U.S. Junior at Saucon Valley before losing to Noah Maclauchlan and fell to Jay Leng in the Western Amateur semifinals.

Jordan Spieth reached the PGA Tour postseason for the 14th consecutive year, this time with a most curious achievement. He finished the regular season at No. 54 in the FedEx Cup despite not finishing in the top 10 in any of his 21 tournaments.
How was that possible?
For starters, top 10 really doesn't have as much relevance since 2008 when the Ryder Cup (thanks to U.S. captain Paul Azinger) went away from awarding points only to top-10 finishes.
Spieth had four finishes in the top 12, including the Masters and two signature events. Those four top 12s — the other was a tie for 11th in the Valspar Championship — accounted for 52% of his FedEx Cup points.
He played in all eight signature events this year, but he received only two exemptions — Bay Hill (tie for 11th worth 125 points) and the Travelers Championship (tie for 66th worth seven points). Take out those two sponsor exemptions and Spieth would have finished at No. 64 and still qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The Maine state champions scored eight runs in the first inning, which proved to be enough in a 10-6 victory over Portsmouth in an elimination game on Sunday at the New England Little League Baseball Regional in Bristol, Connecticut.

But Maine held on from there, plating two insurance runs in the fifth off Cresta, who relieved starter Raizes in the first inning and held Maine down until the fifth. At the plate, Cresta finished 2-for-2 with a walk.

Keegan Bradley's season came to an end Sunday with a 2-under 68 at the Wyndham Championship. Bradley began the week 72nd in FedExCup points and is projected to remain outside the playoff cutline.
That ends a run of 15 consecutive appearances in the playoffs, which was the longest-active streak after Jason Day missed the cut this week to snap his stretch of 18 straight.
"Yeah, it was a tough year. It was a tough – it's been a tough like year and a half," Bradley said. "I'm looking forward to getting home and resetting and coming out next year a little fresher maybe. I got off to such a terrible start this year. Next year hopefully will be better."
Coming off a year in which he won once and captained the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Bradley missed three of his first five cuts in 2026 and didn't have a finish better than T-12 all season.
He needed a low score Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club to have a shot at Memphis, and birdied Nos. 5, 6, 8 and 9. Unfortunately, he also made double bogey at the par-3 seventh. The back nine consisted of two birdies and two bogeys, including a dropped shot at the last.
