Jennifer Garner says the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck forced her to confront a career question she had largely avoided while raising their children, how she was going to support herself over the long term.
During the August 25 episode of Aspire with Emma Grede, Garner said she "panicked" after realizing how far she had stepped back from acting. She began questioning how many working years Hollywood would still give her and whether she had built a career that could provide the financial stability she now needed.
"I have to take care of myself. I have to take care of these kids. So what is it going to be?" Garner recalled thinking, according to Just Jared. Garner and Affleck separated in 2015 after 10 years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018.
Her answer was not simply to accept every acting job available. Garner needed work that could coexist with parenting, which meant prioritizing projects near Los Angeles, avoiding long stretches away from home and building another source of income through Once Upon a Farm.
Garner said she and her manager began looking realistically at what kinds of jobs she could accept. "I can work in Los Angeles. I can't leave these kids for six months at a time," she recalled, adding that although she loved going on location, it was not practical during that period of her life.

As crude inventories in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve drain toward their operational limits, America is left, armed with just 300 million barrels. This dwindling buffer forces the nation into a high-stakes standoff against the uncompromising laws of fluid dynamics, immense geological forces, strict federal statutes, and relentless geopolitical pressure.
The SPR is a subsurface engineering marvel. Spanning 60 massive underground salt caverns across four storage sites in Texas and Louisiana, the system holds a combined authorized capacity of 714 million barrels. These solution-mined cavities are gigantic, often 300 feet wide and 2,000 feet tall, large enough to stack the Empire State Building inside.
Because these caverns operate entirely on a liquid displacement system, they can never be left empty. If the fluids were removed without replacement, the immense geological weight of the overlying earth would cause the salt domes to collapse inward like a crushed shield. Consequently, the total volume of fluid inside the reserve must be permanently maintained at 714 million barrels. However, the actual crude oil inventory tells a sobering story. The crude oil volume currently stands at approximately 293 million barrels. The remainder is entirely heavy salt brine used to push the oil out. Operating below this 300-million-barrel threshold pushes the aging infrastructure into uncharted and hazardous territory.
According to the Department of Energy, the absolute physical minimum crude oil inventory is approximately 70 million barrels. This cushion is required at the very top of the caverns to keep the extraction pipes safely submerged in oil rather than the underlying water. But while 70 million barrels is the structural floor where the salt rock might physically hold together, the practical operational floor is much higher, around 250 million barrels.

The names shift, the numbers remain eye-catching, and the wider theme is clear enough, Stamford Bridge is still a place where squad building is constant, aggressive and occasionally uncomfortable. According to The Athletic, the final days of the market could yet reshape Xabi Alonso's first Chelsea squad in meaningful ways.
The broad picture is one of exits before arrivals. Chelsea have stockpiled depth, youth and possibility over recent years, but football teams still require balance, availability and clarity of purpose. In that regard, the club's late-window strategy appears practical. The report states that "the squad is largely set, with a priority being placed on getting several players out, either sold or on loan." That line speaks volumes. Chelsea are not merely browsing the market, they are trying to create order.
There is also the matter of Enzo Fernandez, a player central to Chelsea's midfield identity and central, too, to the market noise surrounding west London. Manchester City remain interested. Chelsea remain resistant, at least on their terms. The old verbal framework has gone and the new conditions are stiffer, both financially and competitively. As The Athletic reports, "the asking price for Fernandez is now higher than the £120million verbal agreement that was in place until the deadline ran out on August 14." Chelsea, significantly, "will also want to make sure they can sign somebody else before agreeing to any sale, as they do not want to weaken the squad."
That is the key detail. This is not a club inviting offers for a prized **** et. This is a club prepared to listen only if the structure of the deal protects their present and future. Chelsea are expecting an offer from City, and Alonso "did not confirm that Fernandez will still be a Chelsea player at the end of the window". That is the modern manager's balancing act, keep authority, preserve dressing-room equilibrium, and avoid making promises the market may challenge.
If Fernandez stays, Chelsea retain a midfielder of personality, technical **** urance and bite. If he goes, the consequences spread beyond one position. The report makes plain that Chelsea would not necessarily seek "a like-for-like replacement for the Argentina international. It could be a midfielder with a different profile, or a new attacker." That is a revealing football point. Chelsea's recruitment under Alonso appears to be guided by function rather than neat duplication.

The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) have agreed to strengthen collaboration on initiatives covering AI training and professional qualification recognition.
Under the expanded collaboration, the ISCA signed a letter of cooperation for a proposed Global AI Fluency Initiative based on its AI Fluency Programme.
Subject to approvals and agreed implementation terms, the two accountancy bodies will provide practical and responsible AI learning to ICAI members and students.
The programme is expected to benefit the ICAI's more than 1.5 million members and students.

Liam Delap's situation at Chelsea looks increasingly clear, and it is not a flattering one. A year after leaving Ipswich for £30m, the 23-year-old is already facing a crossroads.
The biggest detail here is symbolic as much as practical. Delap "has lost the No 9 shirt to fellow striker Joao Pedro" and is reportedly "training separately" as Chelsea reshape their attacking options under Xabi Alonso. When a striker loses the shirt and the day-to-day integration, the message is obvious. He is available, and everyone knows it.

For Netflix cofounder Reed Hastings, the experience drove home a lesson about how to think about a company: It may be a tight-knit team, but it isn't a family.
"People respect great teams, and they respect families and how we operate," Hastings recently told Semafor. "But if you describe yourself as a family at a company, you better not ever do a layoff. You would never lay off two of your kids, right? Then people get very cynical if you say it's a family but don't operate that way."
Netflix soon found a path forward, capitalizing on the rise of DVD players—pivoting to a subscription-based DVD delivery service—and going public in 2002. But Hastings argued that getting too close makes employees feel protected, even when their performance falls short.
"We realized, Wow, maybe we should do a one-third layoff every year," the 65-year-old said. "And of course that's impractical—but we said, how about if we keep the bar high and really think about us as a championship sports team rather than a family."

The report states: "The most notable news was the decision that Brazilian striker Endrick will stay, despite rumours linking him with a loan move to Aston Villa and Roma." Doege, who played quarterback at Texas Tech a decade and a half ago, points to the sofa up against the wall. That's where Noah Fifita was sitting seven months ago after Arizona completed its surprising 9-4 season, when Doege asked a question that would determine both of their futures.

Consumer advocacy organisation Consumer Choice Center (CCC) has called for an immediate halt and overhaul of the EU's new packaging rules, arguing that they impose heavier compliance demands on small and medium-sized retailers.
From 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) has added new obligations for businesses sending goods directly to consumers in other EU member states.
Under the rules, companies engaged in cross-border sales must meet the national requirements of the country where the customer is based.
These requirements may include registration, joining packaging recovery schemes, reporting packaging volumes and, where necessary, appointing an authorised representative.
The CCC said such fixed compliance costs are easier for larger businesses to bear but can make cross-border sales financially impractical for smaller retailers with reduced shipping volumes.

South Korean carmaker KG Mobility (KGM) has entered the Myanmar market through a partnership with Super Seven Stars (SSS) Group, launching an electric vehicle (EV) line-up locally.
Under the arrangement, SSS Group – described as Myanmar's "first private" automobile company – will handle local production and sales of two models, the Torres EVX and Musso EV.
According to a translated version of the statement, KGM has set a target of supplying 1,000 vehicles to the Myanmar market over the course of this year through the tie-up.
The Myanmar launch represents the initial step in KGM's broader push into knock-down (KD) operations, a strategy the company intends to roll out in further markets, including Saudi Arabia and Vietnam, in the period ahead.
KGM Chairman Jae-Sun Kwak said: "Myanmar is a growing market with a developing automotive industry, and customers place the utmost importance on practicality and durability, along with automotive design, taking into account road conditions, family travel, and personal business situations.
