Few trial-by-fire moments in the NFL match the challenge of lining up against Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf in a high-stakes, two-minute drill. For rookie cornerback Daylen Everette, that trial came early in training camp and provided a crucial blueprint for his professional mindset.
During an intense two-minute drill early in summer practices, the coaching staff threw Everette directly into coverage against Metcalf. While the star wide receiver ultimately hauled in a contested catch, the experience offered the third-round draft pick an invaluable lesson in the mental resilience required to play cornerback in the NFL.
Rather than letting a tough rep against an elite veteran affect his confidence, Everette pointed to that exact matchup as the foundation for developing a short-term memory on the field.
In a recent interview with Steelers Missi Matthews from training camp, Everette shared how critical Metcalf has been to his development.
"I mean, you just at the position I play, you just have you have to have that next play mentality," Everette explained when reflecting on the matchup against Metcalf.

Steelers Receiving Corps Receive Major Injury Blow As Michael Pittman Jr., DK Metcalf Miss Practice originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Steelers have made a raft of changes to their receiving corps in recent campaigns, trimming the fat while adding a pair of Pro Bowl-caliber pass-catchers in DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.
Both are expected to feature prominently in Nathaniel Hackett's new-look attack. Metcalf and Pittman weren't quite able to hitting new heights during their 2025 seasons. And yet, Pittsburgh still is putting its faith in the 28-year-old wideouts to anchor its attack alongside Aaron Rodgers.
Pittman inked a two-year, $35 million accord with the Steelers in the offseason. Metcalf preceded him by signing a four-year, $132 million deal a year before. Both need time to cement their partnership with Rodgers, who toiled at times in his age-42 season. They haven't gotten many opportunities to do so thus far, with both Pittman and Metcalf missing practices after sustaining apparent injuries.
Here's the latest on Pittman and Metcalf's statuses, as well as timetables for their respective returns.

Roman Wilson Earning High Praise in Steelers Training Camp originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. cemented as the top two wide receivers on the team, the Steelers are hoping someone grabs the chance to become the third wide receiver in the lineup. So far, it seems like that has been Roman Wilson.
The third-year player out of Michigan hasn't flashed much in his NFL career, totaling just 166 receiving yards in two seasons. Last year, Wilson was largely a depth option as he and Aaron Rodgers never developed chemistry.
This year, though, Wilson appears to be earning more playing time during training camp, impressing both his teammates and new coaching staff. Rodgers explained that he thinks Wilson has taken a step forward early in the Summer.
"He looks to be more dynamic," Rodgers said, via The Athletic's Mike DeFabo. "He's making plays. He's confident. The personality starts to come out. He's, you know, joking around more with you in the locker room. I just love it. I love to see guys really coming into their own and really feel like they can be comfortable being their full self."

When the Pittsburgh Steelers took the practice field for the first time of training camp, they did so without Joey Porter Jr. and Jalen Ramsey. The two most vital pieces of the Steelers' secondary were placed on the PUP list ahead of the team's first practice – Ramsey dealing with a knee injury while Porter was said to be nursing a bad back.
As we head into Saturday's night practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium, neither Porter nor Ramsey have taken the field, leaving Pittsburgh in need of someone to step up.
Asante Samuel Jr. has done just that.
Through the first week and change of training camp practices, you could make a real and compelling argument that Samuel has been the best player on the field. He has consistently made terrific plays on the ball during team period, totaling several passes broken up at all levels, including a one-on-one ball while matched up with DK Metcalf on a deep pass from Aaron Rodgers.
On Thursday, I asked head coach Mike McCarthy about Samuel and how impressed he's been with him throughout this process.

The start of August marks the beginning of training camp in the NFL. At Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2026 training camp looks different. New head coach (and Pittsburgh native) Mike McCarthy brings a whole new staff and personal camp wrinkles to the team.
"Tempered" is how McCarthy described this year's training camp, harkening back to the city's industrial roots and the steelmaking process, according to Brook Pryor from ESPN.
"More than talented… More than tough… Tempered," read the shirts the Steelers gave to staff members.
The first week of training camp has brought a lot of optimism for Steelers fans. The usual stars like T.J. Watt, DK Metcalf and Alex Highsmith have handled their business while learning the new schemes. Other players needing to prove themselves have shined in these early practices.
While it is only August, the excitement for this group is palpable and somewhat refreshing.

Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf have grown closer as teammates after a private preseason training camp in Idaho.
Both Rodgers and Metcalf are ready to run it back with the Steelers in the AFC North after a strong first season together.
While there were flashes of brilliance from both stars, their chemistry still needed some work. But it appears both stars have forged a greater connection over the last few months during a private training camp in Idaho.

We all make mistakes. Sometimes they happen in life, at our jobs or even when playing fantasy football (believe it or not). It's important not to dwell on these mistakes and, instead, learn from them. Our Yahoo fantasy football ****** ysts are sharing one thing they did in 2025 that they aren't going to carry into 2026 for fantasy.
Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
Over the years I've become especially value-driven with my salary cap drafts. I'm trying to leverage the market, I'm trying to find under-appreciated players. There's nothing wrong with that strategy, but often I come out with rosters that are more about leftovers than they are about players I actually like. This year I'm going to try to remember that it's okay to "overpay" occasionally for a player I really believe in, or a player I especially need at the time. Plus, heck, you're supposed to ****** emble a team you're going to enjoy following for several months. Don't forget to have some fun with it, too. — Scott Pianowski
It's probably a bit of a stretch to call Daniel Jones Shane Steichen's handpicked guy but at the same time, it was pretty clear that the Colts were putting their thumb on the scale to make him the heavy favorite in last year's camp competition. Regardless, I allowed my own bias about how Jones had played over the last couple of seasons to essentially prevent a ceiling outcome from even crossing my mind. I ended up losing out on chances at significant value for multiple Colts players—many of whom I had been a long-time defender of like Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr.—late in fantasy drafts. Generally, if a sharp play-caller like Steichen taps a reclamation project passer who has shown positive signs in their career, we should be open to the possibility they bring some ADP beats up along with them. This season, I'm keeping my mind open to Kyler Murray reviving the Vikings offense, should he indeed prove to be Kevin O'Connell's Week 1 starter. — Matt Harmon
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the perfect example — working behind or next to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for his opening two seasons. Very few memorable plays stood out. His role was more restricting than we hoped. It was easy to think we already knew what he was as an NFL player. Nico Collins was another perfect example back in 2023. But before the Year 2 breakout there was the Year 3 breakout. Before we believed the best fantasy ****** ets performed at their peak player immediately, we actually had some patience — especially in new situations. Whether that be a seismic coaching staff change in the form of a new play-caller, a new starting quarterback they are attached to or a sociable shift in the pecking order — and sometimes even all of the above. So Rome Odunze, Marvin Harrison Jr., Ladd McConkey, Xavier Worthy and Jonathon Brooks… you are on my radar. — Josh Norris

Noah Fant has played alongside some of the NFL's most accomplished wide receivers. It's something that gives the New Orleans Saints tight end a unique perspective on where Chris Olave stands around the league. Fant spent last season in Cincinnati with Ja'Marr Chase, who commands one of the NFL's largest target shares. After watching Olave during his first training camp in New Orleans, Fant believes the Saints' star belongs in a similar tier to where Chase stands.
"Ja'Marr got a lot of targets a game, as he should have," Fant told reporters on Sunday. "He's a great player, like, transcending wide receiver. But I think Chris — I mean, I think he's just as much up there. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's a great player."
Fant has also shared offenses with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Courtland Sutton during previous stops. It's a perspective that carries additional weight because he's seen several versions of elite receiver play throughout his career.
Olave will remain one of the primary pieces of the Saints' offense after being rewarded with a four-year contract extension worth up to $132 million just a few days ago. He also established himself early as one of Tyler Shough's top targets. For Fant, the tight end understands that the ball will frequently go in Olave's direction.
"There's guys like Chris Olave, right? He's going to have the ball a lot," Fant said. "He's a really good player, and as he should."

Day 4 of the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp went off without a hitch, giving fans an exciting look at what's in store for Mike McCarthy's brand of Steel City football. There were several standouts deserving of praise, in addition to a few duds we should discuss, from the fourth day of practice at training camp.
From a veteran defender showing off his versatility to one playmaker seemingly falling down the depth chart, here's a look at the biggest winners and losers from Day 4 of Steelers training camp.
Watt, capable of creating havoc as a pass rusher and blowing up run plays before they even get started, highlighted another aspect of his game that fans often forget: his pass coverage ability. Watt was able to intercept Aaron Rodgers as the outside linebacker dropped into pass coverage, wowing spectators and teammates alike.
Roman Wilson emerged as one of Rodgers' favorite targets early in training camp, but Metcalf's connection with the veteran quarterback was surging on Saturday. Metcalf was getting looks from Rodgers on short, intermediate, and deep passes throughout Day 4. If the two can continue to build chemistry over the next month, the rest of the league will have a big problem on its hands.
Allar continued to ride the hot hand and sling the rock on Day 4, turning plenty of heads with some huge throws. One such impressive pass was his massive back-shoulder completion to A.T. Perry. Yes, fans should temper expectations about the rookie third-rounder, but Allar has really stood out so far in Latrobe.

LATROBE – Day Three of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp was unlike any Steelers practice I've covered in terms of its layout. It was an incredibly light day for the Steelers that featured players in caps and bucket hats rather than helmets as the team ran a walkthrough for the entire two hour practice.
The plays were ran at 50-60 percent speed, and it was a very energetic, laid back environment. So, with that as a prerequisite, there frankly wasn't much to take away from Day Three, but Joey Bray and I will both share the few takeaways we had from Friday morning's practice.
Germie Bernard took the field with the First-Team during practice, working largely from the slot while DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman were on the outside. Roman Wilson took some reps on the outside with the second team. This was by design, as head coach Mike McCarthy said ahead of practice that he would be looking to give Wilson some outside reps as to not pigeon hole him at one spot. – Jarrett Bailey
Throughout practice, Aaron Rodgers was under center a lot. This is something that Rodgers had stressed in his pre-training camp presser on Tuesday. He wants to be under center more this season and it looks like McCarthy is going to grant his wish and give him those opportunities this season. – Joey Bray
Mike McCarthy spent the majority of practice with the third and fourth teams coaching up Will Howard and Drew Allar. Howard is the guy McCarthy has arguably talked up the most this offseason, while Allar is the hand picked developmental quarterback. It's refreshing to see a head coach so involved with the development of his young quarterbacks. If anything, it shows that McCarthy is looking toward the future and wants to get every opportunity he can at these young guys. It would be much better for the Steelers long term if one of the guys on the roster ends up being their future franchise guy, and McCarthy knows that. Howard has much more to prove over the next few weeks of camp and preseason compared to Allar, but getting that increased one-on-one time with their new head coach is crucial. – Joey Bray

The Seattle Seahawks have many great wide receivers that have played for the team in franchise history.
Seahawks greats Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett made countless big plays over the course of their careers in Seattle, while DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba took the league by storm with their spectacular play and star power while on the team. Yet, only one of the franchise's greats has the most receiving yards in team history.
Let's take a look at who the Seahawks' all-time leading receiver is, as well as the other players that come close.
Hall of Famer Steve Largent sits alone as the Seahawks' all-time leader in receiving yards with 13,089 yards.
Largent played his entire 14-year NFL career with Seattle from 1976-89. He twice led the league in receiving yards, with 1,237 yards in 1979 and 1,287 yards in 1985.

The New Orleans Saints could not afford to let uncertainty surrounding Chris Olave's future linger much longer.
They made sure it won't. And now, he's being paid like one of the NFL's premier receivers. The Saints and Olave agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $132 million, including $90 million guaranteed. The deal carries a maximum average value of $33 million per season.
That figure would make Olave the NFL's sixth-highest-paid wide receiver by average annual value, tied with Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf. He also becomes the 12th at his position ever to surpass the $30 million-per-season mark. Here are the receivers currently ahead of Olave:
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle Seahawks: $42.15 million per year
Ja'Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals: $40.25 million per year

Day 1 of training camp is officially in the history books for the Pittsburgh Steelers, with players deserving praise — and criticism — for their respective performances.
From a standout cornerback to one quarterback who saw his stock take a hit, here's a look at the biggest winners and losers from Day 1 of Steelers training camp.
Joey Porter Jr. and Jalen Ramsey may have been forced to sit back due to injury, but Samuel made the most of his opportunity. He looked amazing during Day 1 of training camp, making several huge pass breakups intended for two of Pittsburgh's top receivers in DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.
From tipped passes to interceptions, Patrick Queen, Cole Holcomb, and Payton Wilson made huge plays throughout camp. It's a welcome change after the down year the Steelers' linebackers experienced in 2025.
Wilson emerged as one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets during Day 1 of training camp, pulling in passes early and often from the veteran quarterback. It's exciting that Wilson is getting a lot of opportunities to prove why he deserves the WR3 role, and from what we've seen so far, he's stepping up in a big way.

NFL training camp season has arrived. Prepare for the onslaught of information, rumors and hype pieces. But fantasy football managers shouldn't be wary of the influx of info — Scott Pianowski has you covered with one key nugget to know for every team in each division. Next up is the AFC North.
Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
Harold Fannin Jr. has a Yahoo ADP in the mid-60s, and it makes sense. He finished as the TE6 last year, and fellow tight end David Njoku was not retained. But Cleveland significantly improved its receiver group this year (widening the passing tree), and the quarterback collection is still suspect. So much of fantasy success is tied to environment, and I'm worried the uber-talented Fannin will have a difficult time overcoming his context this fall. The talent leaps off the screen, but he's not a cheap pick like he was last year.
I often have a soft spot for veteran players who command a boring discount, but I can't quite commit to DK Metcalf this year. He's entering his age-29 season and his yards per target has fallen the last two years. More importantly, the Steelers brought Aaron Rodgers back for his age-43 season – so we have to be muted with our expectations about this team's pace and passing volume. For all of Metcalf's talent, he'll probably miss out on 1,000 yards for the third straight season.
We think of the Bengals as a carnival team (fun offense, leaky defense) and that means it's a blast to invest in the passing game. But save some room for Chase Brown, too. Brown is coming off an RB8 season (despite Joe Burrow missing nine games) and there's little on the depth chart after Brown. And while Brown is a capable runner, his receiving chops (69-437-5 last year) keep him in the field in all packages. Brown makes a lot of sense as a mid-second-round pick.

Aaron Rodgers has officially ended the speculation. He stated there is "zero debate" regarding his future. The four-time MVP confirmed 2026 will be his last season. This news arrives as he reports for his 22nd NFL training camp. Fans can stop guessing about his next move. The decision is final and clear. Rodgers wants to play his final year with freedom.
Rodgers spoke after a conditioning test in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He echoed a sentiment he shared back in May. He admitted he thought last year might be his finale. Then head coach Mike McCarthy got hired by the Steelers. Rodgers discussed the situation with his wife. She told him he could play one more year. The pieces finally came together for this reunion. Rodgers dismissed any idea of changing his mind later. He shook his head firmly when asked about returning. "No," the veteran quarterback said. "Zero debate. Zero."
Not everyone agrees that the decision is permanent. Wide receiver DK Metcalf offered a different perspective to local media. He refused to rule out another year for Rodgers. Metcalf noted that players often speak at the start of a year. They do not know how the season will unfold. He suggested Rodgers might not even get hit this year. If that happens, he could say "let's go out there and do another one." Metcalf believes this mindset puts a weight off Rodgers' back. The quarterback is playing free and enjoying time with close friends. Yet Rodgers remains firm on his timeline. He is not leaving the door open for a 2027 campaign.
This situation marks a significant reunion for Rodgers and McCarthy. The head coach previously coached Rodgers for 13 seasons in Green Bay. That partnership began in 2005 during Rodgers' second NFL season. Now they work together again in Pittsburgh. The context of their history adds weight to this final chapter. Rodgers values the chance to close his career with his old coach. This specific dynamic likely influenced his decision to stay for one more year. The team environment feels right for a final run.
Rodgers made the right call by locking in this timeline. Uncertainty drains energy from a player's performance. Knowing the end date allows him to focus entirely on winning. He does not need to worry about contract extensions or future plans. This clarity helps him play with the freedom Metcalf described. The pressure of the "what if" scenario is gone. It is time to enjoy the game without looking ahead. His confidence in this decision shows his maturity as an athlete.

For the past half-decade or so, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has taken his time each offseason to determine whether he's going to play another year. This time around, however, Rodgers will skip all that ceremony. This will be the 42-year-old's final NFL season, he definitively confirmed Tuesday.
When asked about his NFL future, Rodgers said there was "zero debate" this was it. After the 2026 NFL season, he's retiring, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
Rodgers said he thought last season was going to be his final one for a bit, but he changed his mind once the Steelers hired Mike McCarthy. Rodgers and McCarthy have history together, as the two won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.
"I thought last year might be it," Rodgers said after the Pittsburgh Steelers' conditioning test, echoing the same sentiment he expressed in May that the 2026 season would be his last. "And then Mike [McCarthy] got hired, and I talked to the wife and she said, 'You can do one more year.' I said, 'Well, we'll see if it works out.' And then it kind of all came together."
D.K. Metcalf, however, wasn't necessarily buying Rodgers' willingness to hang it up after the season. Metcalf said it was possible Rodgers would change his mind if things went extremely well for him and the team in 2026.

Michigan football writer Tony Garcia ranks the five most important players on the Wolverines' defense in 2026.
Michigan had to replace a pair of starters in the secondary last season when Will Johnson and Makari Paige left for the 2025 NFL Draft and while it brought in veterans like TJ Metcalf and Wesley Walker to fill in as experienced pieces, the DBs clearly missed their leader.
Shortly after former defensive coordinator Wink Martindale arrived in 2024, he compared Rod Moore to NFL All-Pro Eric Weddle in terms of his cognitive ability. While he doesn't wear the "green dot" with the headset to the defensive coordinator, Moore is the quarterback of the back end and ensures his running mates are on the same page and in the right positions.
THE OFFENSE: Ranking Michigan football's 5 most important offensive players in 2026
It was sorely missed the past two seasons, but he's said to be on track for a full return this year. While it remains to be seen where he is athletically after he comes back from multiple knee procedures, Moore's impact on the defense will be felt if he's even able to return to 80% of what he was when he was an All-Big Ten secondary piece in 2023.

The Steelers head into the 2026 season with higher hopes for their receiving corps.
DK Metcalf caught 59 passes last season, but the rest of the group only had 77 and the 136 total receptions ranked 31st among receiving groups for the 2025 campaign. The Steelers addressed that shortcoming by trading for Michael Pittman Jr. and drafting two wideouts — second-rounder Germie Bernard and fourth-rounder Kaden Wetjen — in April.
New head coach Mike McCarthy isn't counting out another returning member of the group, however. 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson played just one game as a rookie and had 12 catches in 13 appearances last season, but McCarthy said that he liked how Wilson approached the offseason.
"He's been here from Day 1," McCarthy said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. "He was one of the first men to reach out and clearly ask what the expectation was of him, how I view him, how I saw him fitting in as the roles X, F and Z. He's doing the work. He's had a great offseason. I just need him to keep showing up and keep working his tail off because he's got a skill set, there's a lot there to work with. Roman's done a really nice job."
Metcalf and Pittman are going to be the top wideouts to kick off the season in Pittsburgh, but Wilson could find his way into a bigger role if his offseason work continues into training camp and leads to a strong bond with Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers' bonding week with his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates has gone viral over the past several days. And one particularly interesting storyline was the absence of two key Steelers players.
While Rodgers brought along six teammates, Michael Pittman Jr., DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, Pat Freiermuth, Ben Skowronek, and Mason Rudolph, Steelers quarterback Will Howard and tight end Darnell Washington were nowhere to be seen. And considering how hard it is to miss the 6-foot-7 Washington, there's been a real debate about what these absences could mean.
For Howard, this could mean that the backup quarterback job isn't as one-sided as previously believed. Rudolph appeared to throw his name back into the hat with his inclusion at Rodgers' bonding week.
Washington's absence was less concerning, as the giant, 300-plus-pound playmaker has carved out a role for himself as one of the NFL's best blocking tight ends that's dangerous after the catch.
These two Steelers will definitely be players to keep a close eye on as training camp arrives in a few weeks, as Howard and Washington look to battle with Rudolph and Freiermuth, respectively, for a bigger role on the team.

Aaron Rodgers is doing some team-building roughly two weeks before the Pittsburgh Steelers report for training camp.
Going into his 23rd NFL season, the four-time MVP wants to make sure his final season is a memorable one. And he gathered a handful of teammates from the Steelers offense for a trip to bond before the work of the 2026-27 campaign really begins.
Rodgers posted a photo of himself with receivers Michael Pittman Jr., Ben Skowronek, Roman Wilson and DK Metcalf, along with quarterback Mason Rudolph and tight end Pat Freiermuth from an undisclosed location.
Whereever the photo was taken from (Rodgers also posted another one that was sharper), perhaps somewhere out West, there is plenty of wide-open ***** e to work on some pass routes. But maybe they’re saving the football stuff for when they report to Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
Accompanying the image, Rodgers wrote “Last Rodeo,” reminding everyone that this will be his last season and these are the guys who will help him through it. The caption also included the hashtag “#bondingweek,” indicating the purpose of this excursion.

An invitation to the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift wedding was one kind of exclusive. Another recent NFL-related gathering took exclusive to another level.
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has posted on Instagram a photos of a gathering with six of his Steelers teammates: Michael Pittman Jr., Ben Skowronek, Roman Wilston, Mason Rudolph, DK Metcalf, and Pat Freiermuth.
The caption is "Last Rodeo," along with "#bondingweek."
The images include horses, cowboy hats, and campfires. The setting wide open and outdoors, with strong to quite strong Teton River vibes.
Rodgers has said this will be his final season. The "Last Rodeo" label further confirm it, setting up the 2026 season to be the rare full-season farewell tour for a franchise quarterback.

DK Metcalf didn't have the season he was hoping to have in his Pittsburgh Steelers debut in 2025. But when looking at the offensive struggles as a whole, how much of the blame should really fall on his shoulders? With a brand-new coaching staff and offensive scheme in 2026, Metcalf is primed for a bounce-back year.
From now until the start of the regular season, we at Steelers Wire will be ******* yzing every player on the roster. Here's a look at Metcalf and what could be in store for his 2026 season.
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 229 pounds

The Steelers have not had great wide receiver cores over the last few seasons, but in 2026 they finally have some depth in the pass-catching room.
The Steelers have a good problem on their hands: a battle for the No. 3 wide receiver spot. Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard are seemingly the third and fourth receivers behind DK Metcalf and newly acquired Michael Pittman Jr. Both are young receivers with tons of upside after being drafted from prominent schools.
Will one of them stand out over the other as the Steelers’ third option?
Bernard, a rookie from Alabama, caught 114 passes for 1,656 yards and nine touchdowns over two seasons. The Steelers drafted the 6-foot-1 receiver in the second round of this year’s draft, 47th overall. Bernard has high expectations from fans and ******* ysts, who many believe could be the next great Steeler receiver.
Wilson’s story is somewhat odd compared to the average high-draft-pick receiver. He played four seasons at Michigan, hauling in 107 receptions and 1,707 yards during his time there, as well as 20 receiving touchdowns. The Steelers drafted him in 2024 after he won a national ******* le with the Wolverines, but he battled injuries his rookie year and only appeared in one game.

With training camp weeks away, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard is earning plenty of attention early on.
Bernard, the Alabama standout who was drafted by Pittsburgh with the No. 47 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has quickly translated his collegiate big-play ability to the pro level, drawing rave reviews during offseason workouts for his sharp route-running and immediate chemistry with the starting offense.
Heading into training camp, Bernard projects to compete for the WR3 role — behind DK Metcalf and offseason acquisition Michael Pittman Jr. — with third-year receiver Roman Wilson. While Wilson might enter training camp with the starting role, some insiders are saying Bernard is a real threat to become the starter come the 2026 season.
Ahead of training camp in late July, the rookie Bernard is gaining attention in the Steelers offense. The former Crimson Tide wide receiver has been praised for his ability to line up all over the field, and, moreover, his route-running ability.

ESPN has offered its take on the Pittsburgh Steelers' WR3 battle, specifically between third-year hopeful Roman Wilson and rookie Germie Bernard.
In ESPN's new ranking of the 2026 NFL rosters, in which the Steelers were completely disrespected, Bernard was projected to get the starting nod over Wilson as the third wide receiver, joining WR1 DK Metcalf and WR2 Michael Pittman.
Bernard, selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, has incredible versatility, capable of lining up out wide, in the slot and even out of the backfield as a rookie. And honestly, that does give him a leg up on Wilson.
For the most part, the Steelers have been successful at drafting receivers in later rounds. But you wouldn't have guessed it based on Wilson's usage over the past two seasons. There was hope he was primed for a Year 3 breakout, but if Pittsburgh's offense plays out like ESPN projects, Wilson may not be given a chance.
