OXFORD — There are high expectations for Ole Miss football in 2026.
The preseason AP Top 25 Poll was released on Aug. 17. The Rebels are No. 9, with Ohio State earning the No. 1 spot.
It is better than the No. 10 ranking Ole Miss got in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll released Aug. 4. Ohio State got the No. 1 spot in that poll as well.
Ole Miss is coming off its first College Football Playoff appearance. The Rebels made some noise in the CFP in 2025 by beating Tulane in the first round and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The run ended in the Fiesta Bowl with a 31-27 loss to Miami.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy return to form what should be a formidable duo. Ole Miss has launched a joint Heisman Trophy campaign to highlight their stars.

In 2025, the LSU football running game took another step back -- it wasn't just bad, it was virtually nonexistent. In 2024, a healthy Garrett Nussmeier covered up some of the issues, but that wasn't the case in 2025.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan were, of course, let go in October, while interim head coach/running back coach Frank Wilson was among the many, many LSU-Ole Miss swaps we saw in the offseason. Out went Wilson; in came Kevin Smith, who had to work overtime to restock his running back room; and just as Smith and Lane Kiffin found success at running back with a then-unheard-of transfer named Kewan Lacy, the two might have found LSU's next bell cow back via the portal.
Today, we preview the outlook for LSU football's running back room in 2026.

The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 9 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
Pro Football Network recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle. Within that mock, they have the Vikings landing SEC running back Kewan Lacy. The All-American running back is poised for a big season in the toughest conference, and it could lead to him becoming the top running back in the class.
They explain the Lacy pick, writing, "Less than a year out from the 2027 NFL Draft, there doesn't appear to be a clear favorite for the class's RB1 mantle. That doesn't mean there's no talent, though, as Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy showed in 2025. Lacy led the FBS in carries (306) and led the SEC in rushing touchdowns (24), while displaying dual-threat ability with 29 receptions for 177 yards. The Minnesota Vikings are in desperate need of a premium rusher if they're to climb back to relevance in the NFC."
Lacy would become the instant RB1 with the Vikings if he landed with them. Arguably, he could get that type of buzz anywhere, but the Vikings would be a homerun spot for him and Minnesota would benefit by allowing them to establush a run game once again.

Sydney Sweeney appears in a new Instagram carousel posted by her lingerie brand Syrn.
She modeled a lacy bra and matching underwear, as well as a sheer cape.
Sweeney completed her 1960s-inspired look with on-theme glam.
Sydney Sweeney channels retro glamour in her latest Syrn campaign. The actress modeled her own line of lacy lingerie in a new Instagram carousel posted by the brand earlier this week.
Sweeney went full Valley of the Dolls in a 1960s-inspired look, which consisted of a white balconette bra and matching cheeky underwear complete with tiny bows. The Euphoria alum also tied a sheer cape with fur trim around her shoulders. She kept the theme going with her glam: Her blonde hair was styled in bouncy ringlets, while her makeup included white eyeliner and pops of pink blush.

Tyler Lacy may not be the first name Detroit Lions fans mention when discussing the defensive line. In fact, in our pre-Training Camp 53-man roster prediction article, we had Lacy as the last defensive lineman making the cut.
Dan Campbell believes he brings exactly the kind of reliability every good defense needs.
Lacy can set the edge, absorb physical work inside and move across the front without complaint. He also happens to approach the job the way Campbell wants every Lion to approach it.
"I'll start with the most important thing: He's a football guy," Campbell said.
"He's a professional. He prepares, practices hard and will do whatever you ask him to do."

How will the Jon Sumrall era live on in Florida football history? With about a month to go before the Gators kick off the 2026 season, the biggest hope for now is that it's at least an improvement over the Billy Napier one.
The plug got pulled on Napier seven games into his fourth season, a barrier that no UF coach has crossed since Urban Meyer. The Gators haven't been in the College Football Playoff rankings since Dan Mullen coached them to the 2020 SEC championship game.
To turn that around, maybe a coach freshly removed from leading Tulane to the CFP will help. He knows he's got a stud at running back in Jadan Baugh, he of 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns in what was otherwise a dismal 4-8 campaign. Who starts at quarterback is a whole different manner: Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo is one of six transfers projected as starters at Ourlads, but redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. could just as easily win the job.
There's still time to decide who best fits in new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner's Air Raid scheme. The first two games of the season will (barring disaster the likes of the South Florida loss last season) serve as mere tune-ups for the SEC opener at Auburn and former USF two-way QB Byrum Brown. Then it's the big early test: a showdown with Trinidad Chambliss, Kewan Lacy and an Ole Miss team fresh off a CFP semifinal appearance.
If the Gators can tread water through the gauntlet of Texas, Georgia (in Atlanta as Jacksonville updates its stadium) and Oklahoma, there's hope they could lock down a solid bowl résumé against Florida State on Black Friday. And hey, maybe UF can end the year back in the CFP rankings.

Pete Golding was in attendance at SEC Media Days on Wednesday and spoke with reporters.
He gave a passionate speech about tampering in college football, but his more interesting answer was about how he approached quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy about staying with the Rebels after former head coach Lane Kiffin infamously left for LSU.
Golding’s quote was targeted at Kiffin, but more in the eyes of creating a legacy and what it means for the players’ future, per ESPN’s David Hale.
“Football’s gonna end. What are you going to use? You gotta use an alumni base to be able to get you a job. Where are you gonna bring your kids to? What jersey are they wearing?
Y’all two created a legacy in one season that’s gonna be hard for anybody to overtake, and for what’s going on now, for Coach Kiffin to leave — go Google Lane Kiffin. I had them both do it in my office. Google Lane Kiffin, the dude they’d have built a statue of here three days ago. Google his name right now. They wouldn’t ******* on him if he was on fire.

Pro Football Focus is a highly respected and widely recognized **** ytics organization that is often used in both sports media and NFL front offices. That just means, what they put out, should be heard out.
They recently released their top 50 rankings heading into the 2026 college football season and three Ole Miss Rebels made the cut. That leaves them tied for fourth most on the list behind Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame.
Kewan Lacy is the first on the board at no. 10. He led the country in rushing attempts and power four running backs in rushing touchdowns. He finished second in yards, yards after contact and missed tackles. He is the second running back on the board behind Ahmad Hardy (6) of Missouri.
Trinidad Chambliss checks in at no. 12 on the list and the 4th quarterback. He is behind Julian Sayin (4), Dante Moore (7) and Arch Manning (9). Chambliss had the second highest rating against pressure in the country. Wanna talk about pressure? He put up his best score against Georgia in the playoffs.
Will Echoles is the final Reb to make the list, slotting in at no. 19. I did not know this but Echoles led the P4 in pressures and stops as an interior defensive lineman. Only AJ Holmes Jr of Texas Tech finished the season graded higher.

Pro Football Focus ranked Florida running back Jadan Baugh the 37th-best college football player heading into the 2026 season.
The list mixed "proven performance and future projection" to identify the 50 most valuable players in the sport. Baugh earned an 87.7 overall grade in 2025 and figures to be the focus of Florida's offense in 2026.
"Baugh is a physical runner who should post huge numbers in Buster Faulkner's creative rushing attack this season," the PFF staff wrote. "Last year, Baugh finished third among SEC running backs with 1,168 rushing yards, 65 missed tackles forced and 35 explosive runs. He's also fumbled just one time across 354 career carries. Baugh could be a Doak Walker Award candidate this season if all goes well in Florida's new offense."
Baugh is the fourth running back on the list, behind No. 6 Ahmad Hardy (Missouri), No. 10 Kewan Lacy (Ole Miss) and No. 36 Caleb Hawkins (Oklahoma State).
The question is how opposing defenses will adjust now that Baugh is a proven threat. He emerged as the star of the offense over time last season, benefiting from the focus being on DJ Lagway and the passing game. One of the first things Jon Sumrall said when he took over the program was, "How can I get No. 13 the ball a few more times?"

As they say, "there's a first time for everything," and we have one of those firsts with an announcement from EA Sports for the release of 'College Football 27,' the third installment of the rebooted franchise college football junkies love.
According to a social media post by the game, Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will be rated a 99, which is the highest possible score a player in the game can be rated. Moreover, it's the first time since the franchise found its way back on gaming consoles that a player has been rated that high at launch, meaning upon initial drop of the game.
Smith is widely known as the best player in college football (are you listening, Heisman and Biletnikoff voters) and has already put together some gaudy numbers in his first two seasons in the game. He is primed to break almost every receiving record Ohio State has on the books this season and should go down as one of the best to not only wear the Scarlet and Gray but to play receiver in the college game.
While Smith's rating is known, there have been other leaks. According to those, the top ten include Indiana offensive tackle Carter Smith (97 overall), Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore (97), Missouri offensive tackle Cayden Green (96), Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy (96), Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney (96), Georgia safety KJ Bolden (95), Oregon quarterback Dante Moore (95), Texas defensive end Colin Simmons (95) and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (94).
We'll have more on the game as further announcements are released by EA Sports, but in the meantime, the game is set to be released July 9 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Early access begins July 2 for MVP Bundle owners and July 6 for players who purchase the Deluxe Edition. Mark your calendars.
