Michael Mahon, Ph.D., is eager and excited about returning to his alma mater as the athletic director at Scranton Prep.
Mahon, a former teacher, principal, superintendent, higher education administrator, and coach, replaces Grey Simpson, who resigned after the season and will be a teacher and coach at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, the school announced in a press release on Monday.
A 1986 graduate of Scranton Prep, Mahon excelled as a football player and catcher for the baseball team. He helped lead the Cavaliers to a District 2 Class 3A championship and a first-round playoff game against Montoursville and its pitching ace, Mike Mussina.
In college, Mahon played and coached baseball at the University of Scranton. He started his professional career as a science teacher at Scranton Prep, also served as a coach at the high school level, and then embarked on a long career in administration.
Mahon earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Master of Science in School Administration from the University of Scranton, a Ph.D. in Human Development with a concentration in Administration from Marywood University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

For years, the idea of WWE's The Undertaker and WCW legend Sting going head to head was most fans' idea of a dream match.
Undertaker – real name Mark Calaway – had remained loyal to Vince McMahon and WWE throughout a number of testing years. On the other side of the coin, Sting – real name Steven Borden – had done the same with WCW before its eventual implosion in 2001.
Naturally, Sting ended up on WWE television and made his debut at Survivor Series in 2014 and went on to feud with Triple H.
Nevertheless, there was never any sign of Sting taking on 'Taker' and according to Calaway himself, it was nothing to do with him as to why it never happened.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Shakira Austin scored a season-high 28 points and had 10 rebounds, Kiki Iriafen added 22 points and nine rebounds and the Washington Mystics beat the Dallas Wings 81-75 on Friday night.
Washington (16-12) has won four straight for the first time since September 2020.
Cotie McMahon made Washington's final field goal with 2:50 remaining in the fourth quarter for a 71-68 lead. Then, the Mystics closed it out by going 10 of 10 at the free-throw line.
Sonia Citron finished with 16 points for Washington despite going 3 of 18 from the field. Citron went 10 of 10 at the free-throw line, while Dallas only attempted 13.
Paige Bueckers led Dallas (18-11) with 23 points. Arike Ogunbowale scored 14 of her 20 points in the first half. The Wings have lost three of their last four games.

Major League Baseball's trade deadline is just a few days away. On Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM MT, the Colorado Rockies will hopefully have had one of their most active deadlines in recent memory.
With a new front office helmed by president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes, it has been indicated that the Rockies are open for business. Many players–especially veterans and those on expiring contracts–have been designated as available and are even reportedly drawing interest from teams throughout the league.
The Rockies made their first trade last week to signal the start of the trade season. Right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen was sent in a surprising and rare trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects. Last season, the Rockies similarly made their first big move before the deadline. However, under former general manager Bill Schmidt they ended up making just three total trades. Let's take a look back at those trades and see where the bar sits for this season's deadline.
In the week preceding last year's deadline, the Rockies signaled change might be coming when they dealt long-time third baseman and face of the franchise Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.
Grosz showed off his strikeout stuff in High-A Spokane to finish the 2025 season with 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. However, he struggled with his command and ended the season with a 5.87 ERA. The Rockies' new front office then traded Grosz this off-season to the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Jake McCarthy. McCarthy has in turn become one of the Rockies' most valuable contributors and is now potentially on the market t be traded again within the next few days.

It's trade deadline season, and though this has been a tame deadline period so far, the continuous swirl of rumors and (eventually) actual transactions will be the focus of much of the baseball world in the coming days. Yesterday, we discussed which players the Yankees were most likely to move, and today, we ask: what weakness do the Yankees most need to address, and which one are they most likely to address?
The answer to this question has been fluid throughout the year. Early on, it seemed obvious to most that the Yankees would need to make big additions to their bullpen, yet here we are at the end of July, and the Yankee relief corps has the second-best ERA in the majors. Paul Blackburn has proven to be the second coming of Luke Weaver, Brent Headrick almost never allows runs, David Bednar has been the top-tier closer the team envisioned, and Matt Blake's latest reclamation project, Angel Chivilli, has looked dynamite since his most recent call-up. Add in the fact that players like Will Warren and Ryan Weathers (and perhaps Carlos Lagrange?) could get shifted to the bullpen if they're not traded, and the unit looks like an area of strength, not weakness.
At other times, the matter of the infield appeared to be most pressing. Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each got off to nightmarish starts, and the shortstop duo of Anthony Volpe and José Caballero has had its ups and downs. But even on the dirt, things don't look nearly as shaky as they did two or three months ago. Since seeing his OPS bottom out at .498 on April 22nd, Chisholm has played exactly as expected, with a .239/.309/.463 slash line and 16 homers plus 21 steals. McMahon has run a roughly .750 OPS over the last two months while bringing his usual quality defense at third base. And despite his penchant for high-profile miscues, Volpe's combination of high-OBP and good range at short has made him a valuable contributor.
Then, there's the most obvious need now, at catcher, with Yankee backstops having combined to "hit" .181/.261/.284. But even adding a catcher comes with major complications, as most teams are loath to make significant changes to their caching room midseason. For as awful as Austin Wells and Co. have been with the bat this year, a catcher's primary job is to catch, to field his position, to manage his pitching staff. The Yankee backstops have done that portion of their job with aplomb this year (it's probably not a coincidence that the Yankees prioritize defense at catcher and have the best team ERA in baseball), and it's not trivial to just add a plus bat to that room without shaking things up on the run-prevention front.
Add it all up, and it leaves the Yankee roster in a weird spot heading into a crucial deadline. The roster has been slammed by injuries and has some seemingly clear places to upgrade, but actually making those upgrades is less straightforward than it might appear. What do you think? The New York Yankees offense is struggling right now, and Cody Bellinger's injury only makes things worse.
The Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge, Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton. On top of that, they seem to have no actual solution for third base and shortstop, where Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon continue to struggle. Knowing Judge, Bellinger and Stanton could return soon, the Yankees are unlikely to add a superstar outfielder or designated hitter. However, adding an infielder could do wonders for the offense if that infielder were Luis Arraez.
Luckily for the Yankees, the San Francisco Giants will be sellers at the deadline, and Arraez is a rental they could look to deal away. He is hitting .326 with an .811 OPS on the year. He has improved his slugging while maintaining a high average. Not to mention, he is having an elite year defensively at second base. Defense was always seen as a downside for Arraez, but that is not the case this year.
How would Arraez fit in on the Yankees? Well, for starters, he would slot in at second base. That would allow the Yankees to move Chisholm to third base or shortstop, getting rid of either Volpe or McMahon as a regular. McMahon has already started to lose at-bats, so perhaps it's time the Yankees make a permanent change.

We have seen countless high-profile celebrities appear in the squared circle over the years, including President Donald Trump, who shaved Vince McMahon’s head in the middle of the ring.
Now, there appears to be a feud building with YouTuber-turned-wrestler Logan Paul and NFL legend Tom Brady.

Last weekend, former Duke alum Gary Trent Jr. signed a new four-year $64 million contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, a surprising figure given his production last year.
In 65 games for the Bucks last season, Trent Jr. scored the fewest amount of points (8.1) since his rookie year, to go along with one rebound, 1.2 ****** ists and 0.5 steals. Following the move, NBA insider Tim MacMahon ripped Milwaukee for handing out such an expensive deal, saying, "If you look at the ****** ytics of it, he had negative win shares, a negative box plus-minus, a negative VORP, and he got a mid-level exception basically, a full mid-level. This contract stinks. It smells awful."
For comparison, Quentin Grimes signed a four-year $60 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers despite averaging 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 ****** ists and 0.9 steals. However, since the subtraction of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks have some money to spend and could potentially package Trent Jr. in a trade this summer or at the February deadline.

There are no duds when it comes to Garfield's nonleague schedule as the G-Men take on a longtime rival (Crestwood) and two small-school powers (Springfield Local and Warren JFK).
The G-Men's Thursday night opener against the Eagles will mark the eighth straight season they've squared off (Garfield has won five of seven), though they've never played in Week 1 before.
While the G-Men have faced the Eagles every year since 2019, they haven't played the Red Devils (their Week 2 opponent) since that same season. Garfield won a 21-20 thriller in Mantua in 2019 after topping the Red Devils in overtime the year prior.
The G-Men's Week 3 opponent, the Tigers, have been one of the area's most consistent winners, not having a losing season since 2015. Garfield topped Springfield 40-21 a year ago.
The G-Men will have to wait a little longer before facing their leading Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier rivals: Liberty (Week 7) and Crestview (Week 9). Garfield won back-to-back league ***** les in 2023 and 2024 before the Rebels snapped that streak a season ago. The Leopards are coming off a 9-3 season and lost by a single point to the G-Men in 2025.

After back to back bullpen meltdowns, the Nats look to get off the mat yet again and try to avoid the sweep. Staying above .500 going into the All-Star Break feels big for the morale of this team. On paper, this pitching matchup should be favorable as well.
The Nats are going with a lefty heavy lineup against righty Will Warren who historically has lefty issues. Dylan Crews is the only true righty in the lineup. Abimelec Ortiz will be making his MLB debut and hitting third. Jose Tena will be in the field today at second base. Jorbit Vivas will get the start over Curtis Mead and Keibert Ruiz will be behind the plate. Cade Cavalli is back from suspension and gets the start today.
The Yankees are making a couple changes as well. Trent Grisham will move up to the leadoff spot with a righty on the mound. Ryan McMahon will start at third base and Jose Caballaro will be at short. Max Schuemann will start in right field and Austin Wells is back behind the plate. As mentioned, Will Warren is on the mound.

Ringmahon Rangers AFC have been handed a five-year ban from the FAI Senior Cup and fined €5,000 after withdrawing from their upcoming second round fixture against Bohemians FC.
An Independent Disciplinary Committee has also imposed a three-year ban on the club from participating in the FAI Intermediate Cup.
Ringmahon Rangers and Bohemians, who sit second in the Premier Division, were due to meet on 19 July.
The fixture was to be played at Cobh Ramblers' home ground, St Colman's Park, due to the Cork side's home ground not meeting the requirements for FAI Cup matches.
"The Football ***** ociation of Ireland (FAI) would like to remind all clubs of their obligations to fulfil fixtures in accordance with FAI Disciplinary Regulations and competition rules," a statement from the FAI read.

Jarrett's departure from WWE (formerly known as WWF) is an infamous story, often told as the moment when Jarrett "held up" WWE Chairman Vince McMahon ahead of his final match with the company in 1999. The story goes that Jarrett demanded $200,000 without a contract for his final match against Chyna — an Intercontinental Championship match — at that year's No Mercy pay-per-view. However, that isn't the whole truth, as Jarrett clarified on Monday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show."

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried inched closer to a possible minor league rehab ***** ignment, throwing 36 pitches in his second two-inning simulated game on Sunday.
Before the Yankees concluded a three-game series with the Twins, Fried faced third baseman Ryan McMahon and catcher Ali Sánchez. Manager Aaron Boone said Fried's next simulated game would likely occur Thursday or Friday with an increased pitch count and pitching in a minor league game could be the next step.
The 32-year-old left-hander has been out since May 13, when he left a start in Baltimore after three innings when he velocity noticeably dropped and he threw only 34 of 61 pitches for strikes. He also had an MRI and CT scan that were reviewed by Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Fried faced hitters for the first time on Tuesday when he threw about 30 pitches to McMahon and Trent Grisham, who were still on the injured list at the time.
"It's been good," manager Aaron Boone said. "It's been a good run-up for him and obviously another step today so hopefully we'll obviously get closer by definition, but I know he's felt really good. He's recovered really well in all his throwing stuff. Even going back to when he left that game in Baltimore, it was pretty short order where he was doing pretty well, so that was encouraging."

The Brooklyn Nets are hoping to significantly improve the roster following a 2025-26 season in which the team finished with a disappointing 20-62 record that ultimately led to the No. 6 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn is projected to be one of just a few teams in the league to have significant cap **** e so could they pursue someone like Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler?
"Meanwhile, sources tell The Athletic that a player who does want to be there - big man Walker Kessler - is at odds with the front office over his lack of an extension offer last summer and the current handling of his restricted free agency," Sam Amick of The Athletic reported earlier this week on Kessler and the Jazz. While Kessler has largely been expected to go back to Utah, these contract negotiations could make him more available than initially projected.
"A gulf remains between restricted free agent center Walker Kessler and the Jazz after Utah put an offer worth roughly $140 million over five years on the table, sources told ESPN," Tim MacMahon reported for ESPN when describing why Kessler and the Jazz are not seeing eye-to-eye at the moment. If Kessler is looking for more than $28 million per year on his next contract, the onus is then on Utah to decide if he is worth that money to them.
Kessler, 24, is coming off a 2025-26 season that was technically the best of his four-year career as he averaged 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 70.3% from the field and 70.0% from the free-throw line. However, Kessler played in just five games after suffering a season-ending labral tear in his left shoulder that required surgery.
When it comes to the Nets, they already have starter Nic Claxton and backup Day'Ron Sharpe under contract for the 2026-27 season, but Sharpe has a $6.25 million team option that Brooklyn has to make a decision on soon. While the expectation is that the Nets will bring Sharpe back after he is coming off the best season of his career, Brooklyn could opt to use some of its cap **** e to sign a player like Kessler if he could be signed at a value.

UFC Freedom 250 may not be the last event that TKO Group Holdings, Inc. (TKO) looks to host on the White House South Lawn
TKO, which owns both Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) all under the same roof, just saw UFC Freedom 250 play out live on Paramount+ from the actual White House in Washington D.C. The event may not have produced Super Bowl numbers, but UFC's White House card still drew 17 million viewers to Paramount+, which is a platform record for a live event.
It now appears another TKO holding is looking to test the waters on the White House lawn.
According to a report by Wrestle Votes(via Yahoo Sports), WWE is now discussing the idea of hosting a wrestling event at the White House. It's unknown at this time what WWE would have to do to stage an event on the White House lawn, but they already have an in with President Donald Trump. Much like Trump's past history with Dana White and UFC, POTUS has worked with WWE in the past. This includes Trump's infamous "Loser shaves his head" match against former WWE CEO, Vince McMahon.

Hornchurch have re-signed defender Makai Welch on a permanent basis as they prepare for their first season in the National League.
Welch, 20, had loan spells with the Urchins in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons during his time with Leyton Orient.
He was released by the O's last month and has now completed a move back to Hornchurch.
"He has done fantastically for us on loan and [is] another young player with huge potential. He adds athleticism and quality," manager Daryl McMahon said.

The Dallas Mavericks are still trying to determine the direction they want to take with their roster and future under new management. The team has missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
One major decision has already been made, as Dallas moved on from head coach Jason Kidd. Kidd was fired, and the Mavericks will now begin their search for a new head coach.

Kidd has four years and more than $40 million remaining on his contract, sources told ESPN. But Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont, who extended Kidd's contract during Dallas' NBA Finals run in 2024 and again before last season after they declined the New York Knicks' request to interview him, gave new president Masai Ujiri full authorization to determine the coach's future with the franchise,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon wrote.
The next major question surrounding the franchise is the future of Kyrie Irving. For now, he is expected to remain in Dallas under the team's new leadership.

TORONTO (AP) — Ben Rice hit a tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning, José Caballero added a three-run blast and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3 on Sunday for their sixth win in seven games.
The Yankees won for the seventh time when scoring the go-ahead run in the ninth inning or later.
Paul Goldschmidt hit an infield single off Braydon Fisher (2-2) to begin the ninth and advanced on Fisher’s throwing error. After Ryan McMahon ran for Goldschmidt, Rice drilled a 381-foot homer, his 19th.
Jasson Domínguez and Jazz Chisholm walked before Caballero connected off Tommy Nance for his sixth of the season.
The AL East-leading Yankees won 3-1 Saturday when Goldschmidt hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning and the New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-5 on Monday night.
Paul Goldschmidt and Ryan McMahon homered for the Yankees, who won for the first time in four extra-inning games this season.
Angel Martínez connected for a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Guardians a 5-4 lead before Goldschmidt's grounder in the eighth drove in Trent Grisham to tie it.
With Ali Sánchez as the automatic runner in the 10th, Ben Rice was intentionally walked with one out. Max Schuemann challenged a called strike three on a full count and got it overturned to ball four, loading the bases. The Guardians pulled their infield in, but Bellinger's base hit to left field off Shawn Armstrong (1-1) drove in Sánchez and Rice.
David Bednar (2-3), the seventh Yankees pitcher, struck out three in 1 2/3 hitless innings for the win. He retired five of the six batters he faced.

An inbounds pass from Sophie Cunningham found its way into Clark's hands just before Washington's Cotie McMahon could get her fingertips on it. As McMahon went flying past, Clark launched a deep 3-pointer that was nothing but net to give Indiana a 78-76 win over the Washington Mystics on Monday.
With the win, the Fever move back above .500, improving to 6-5 on the season. Naturally, social media was abuzz after Clark's game-winner.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Caitlin Clark's 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left gave the Indiana Fever a 78-76 victory over the Washington Mystics on Monday night.
Washington rallied from a 17-point deficit and led by one after Sonia Citron's two free throws with 4.3 seconds remaining, but after a timeout, Clark caught a crosscourt pass and was all alone after Cotie McMahon went for the steal and missed.
From just in front of the logo on the left wing, Clark's shot hit nothing but net. After Washington advanced the ball to midcourt, Aliyah Boston broke up the inbound pass and the Fever held on.
Clark finished with 19 points. She scored 10 in the first quarter, and although she picked up her third foul in the second, Indiana made it to halftime with a 43-29 lead. A four-point play by Clark pushed the advantage to 17 in the third.
Washington, which lost second-year standout Kiki Iriafen to a sprained ankle, battled back and led 74-73 after a layup by Shakira Austin. Then Clark missed two free throws with 36 seconds to play, but after a turnover by Austin, Clark found Kelsey Mitchell in transition for a layup that gave the Fever a one-point lead with 11.3 to go.
