DeSoto (Texas) football was on the wrong end of a 38-14 beatdown on Saturday to open its 2026 season. The Eagles traveled to Florida for a top-25 national tilt against St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in the Broward County Classic High School Football Showcase.

The University of Florida is one of seven schools on the official visit list for five-star point guard Cayden Daughtry.
Daughtry, the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2027, narrowed his list of 33 scholarship offers to 14 teams, including Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Providence, Tennessee, UConn, USC, Vanderbilt and Villanova, according to 247Sports.

Anderson will chose from the Hoosiers or a group consisting of Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Providence, Syracuse and Virginia.
That's still a pretty wide and stacked group of programs, so Indiana still has plenty of work to do in this recruitment, but it's good to be in the game regardless.

Tlaib, the first Palestinian American member of Congress, was scheduled to appear on Friday at a rally for three candidates in Florida's upcoming Democratic Party primary.

SUNRISE, Fla. — From little league football to the national championship, Linda Fletcher has never missed one of her son's games.
She is always in the stands when her son, Mark Fletcher Jr., takes the field for the Hurricanes. But she is afraid of flying, so Fletcher has spent the past three years driving to each UM game, whether that means a short trip from her Broward County home to Hard Rock Stadium or a cross-country trip to California's Bay Area in a rental car.
"That was a really big deal, coming from Fort Lauderdale," Fletcher said. "I had never been to California before. And then now it's like, I've been to Texas so many times, I could drive there with my eyes closed. But, yeah, all those trips, we have made it very fun."
This year, Fletcher and her family will be traveling in style. She teamed with Miami legend Michael Irvin's production company, Playmaker Production Group, which gifted her a personalized RV in connection with Fun Town RV. She will get to drive the new RV to each of the Hurricanes' games this year as part of their new web series, "Fetching Fletchers."
Fletcher said she flagged down Irvin when he was on the sideline at a Miami game last year. They talked about her travels, and she said it would only be better if she had an RV. Luckily for her, Irvin knew the owner of the RV company.

For the third year in a row, Sussex County lifeguards are national champions.
The Sussex County Lifesaving ****** ociation again won the United States Lifesaving ****** ociation National Championship, held this year in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Aug. 4 - 7.
Over 120 Sussex lifeguards, from every beach from Lewes to Fenwick Island, made the trip, according to SCLA President Matt Farlow.
"We could not be prouder of this team," Farlow said. "Our lifeguards work incredibly hard, train year-round and take tremendous pride in representing Sussex County and the state of Delaware. To win a national championship three years in a row is an incredible accomplishment, and this '3peat' is a testament to their dedication, preparation and teamwork."
Participants competed in events such as sprints, beach flags, board races, swims and more. Sussex lifeguards took first place in many events, including:

The Wildcats announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website last night.
The 26-year-old Australian defender joins Durham after a year playing her football in the American Gainbridge Super League with Fort Lauderdale United. McComasky was a strong performer for FTL UTD in 2025 despite the club's challenging campaign which saw them finish in ninth place in the table.
Prior to her time Stateside, McComasky played her football back home in her native Australia with Macarthur Rams, Canberra United and Western Sydney Wanderers. She gained experience of playing Ninja A-League football with the latter two clubs. She clocked up a number of appearances at the top level in Australia.

The Argentina superstar and his teammates were set for a training session Saturday after a 3-2 win over Cape Verde, a team that pushed the defending champions all the way to extra time and answered a goal there before Argentina was able to edge out the victory. However, it ended up being a gym day because of thunderstorms in the Fort Lauderdale area.
After the match, Messi said that the game had taken its toll on the Argentina squad, with the locker room full of players who felt drained by the push needed to get past Cape Verde and the South Florida heat in a game that started at 6 p.m. local time.
"Tiredness, a lot of tiredness. We put in a huge effort, honestly. It was a bit of everything, a bit of frustration for the match, happiness for having passed," Messi said after the match. "I think we suffered too much but as I said before, this is the World Cup and we're ready for that as well. But it was a bit of that, some frustration for how the match went because we didn't expect to have that much pressure and happy for going through."

Miami saw a player they recently had on campus announce his commitment elsewhere.
Things have gone swimmingly for Mario Cristobal this offseason on the recruiting front. The Miami Hurricanes have put together one of the strongest recruiting classes in the country for the 2027 cycle.
Cristobal has flipped multiple five-star recruits, including former Georgia CB Donte Wright (Long Beach, CA), and holds three-plus five-star recruits in both 247 Sports and On3 Sports/Rivals’ composite rankings. The Hurricanes hold the No. 3 class in the nation in On3/Rivals and No. 4 in 247 Sports.
However, one area where the Hurricanes could use a bit more oomph is at tight end. As things stand, the Canes have 19 total commitments in their 2027 class. They have one tight end committed - Fort Lauderdale (Cardinal Gibbons) TE Demarcus Deroche.
They had the chance to add to that on Sunday, when four-star TE Anthony Cartwright III made has announcement. Unfortunately for the Canes, he picked Cristobal’s old school: the Oregon Ducks.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan might be breathing a sigh of relief from avoiding a dilemma he would’ve had on his hands in the weeks before training camp.
The NFL declined to hold a supplemental draft this year, which denied Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby from entering the league in the 2026 season. This after he has already gone through an on-again, off-again battle over his eligibility to return to NCAA football due to sports betting violations.
Long story short: Sorsby won’t be playing in the NCAA or NFL in 2026.
Had the league held a supplemental draft solely for Sorsby’s inclusion, which would’ve taken place in mid-July, Sullivan would have had a tough decision to make.
In a supplemental draft, used when prospects lose NCAA eligibility or experience a change in their status after the deadline to declare for the regular late April NFL draft, teams are permitted to place a bid for a player using a draft pick for the following year, with the highest bidder acquiring the prospect. For example, if a team is willing to lose a 2027 third-round pick in order to get Sorsby on their roster now, that would be their bid. It’s a rare occurrence, with the last supplemental draft in 2023 and the last time a player was selected in this setting coming in 2019.

It's been a big day for the Kentucky Football program, as they've picked up three commitments on this Sunday. The latest commitment for the Wildcats is 3-star wide receiver Austin Coles out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He joins Malachi Brown and Drew Williams as high school recruits who picked the Cats on Sunday.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound wideout is a jump-ball threat who has real size and could make an impact on Day 1 in Lexington. He's currently ranked 709th nationally by 247 Sports Composite. Among his other scholarship offers are Florida, Clemson, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Florida State, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, West Virginia, Illinois, and Kansas State.
