Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) may be down more than 60% from its all-time high from last summer, but that's not stopping forward-looking crypto investors from speculating on what might happen during the next bull market cycle.
Tom Lee, co-founder of Wall Street research firm Fundstrat and chairman of Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR), has emerged as one of the loudest voices predicting massive gains in the price of Ethereum. In fact, he thinks Ethereum could eventually hit a price of $250,000. Given its current price of just $2,000, that would represent a stunning 125x return on investment.

The good news, if you're thinking about investing in Ethereum, is that there have been some recent signs of life. In July, for example, Ethereum outperformed both the Nasdaq-100 and Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). And it did so handily. Ethereum beat tech stocks by 25 percentage points, and Bitcoin by 11 percentage points. That's something Lee has been quick to point out, suggesting it could be foreshadowing a massive bull market rally for Ethereum.
But just keep in mind: This could also be a dead cat bounce. After all, Ethereum is still down nearly 40% for the year. And recent shakeups at the Ethereum Foundation suggest that there's enormous internal dissension about where the cryptocurrency is headed next.

China's breakthrough in domestic chipmaking equipment sparked a major semiconductor sell-off, dragging down Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) despite strong fundamentals.
An announcement from a manufacturing facility in Shanghai on July 27, 2026, caused a severe summer downturn for the AI semiconductor market. State-supported Shanghai Aishengna reported the production of homegrown immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems for domestic fabrication facilities. It marks the first viable domestic substitute for technology ASML (NASDAQ:ASML) has exclusively controlled for twenty years, leading to an 8% decline in ASML's shares. But the loss did not stop here.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) fell over 8%, recording the steepest decline among its peers. The fall comes despite the core business metrics remaining steady. Merely a few months ago, the company reported a strong first-quarter performance, with earnings per share reaching $1.37, beating the consensus estimate of $1.29, and total revenue touching $10.25 billion against the forecasted $9.89 billion. Data-center revenue alone saw 57% year-over-year growth, reaching $5.8 billion. The 8% decline does not reflect a flaw in any of these fundamentals, because there were none.
Immersion DUV technology processes mature nodes. On the other hand, AMD's MI300 series and upcoming MI400/MI455X accelerators rely on TSMC's cutting-edge extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. The related technology is exclusively supplied by ASML and goes beyond the current Chinese capabilities. Shanghai Aishengna's DUV equipment cannot produce these advanced accelerators. As such, their technology affects neither TSMC's supply chain nor AMD's pricing power. Additionally, Aishengna aims for just five units in 2026 compared to ASML's 130 in the same year. With EUV remaining inaccessible to domestic producers, investors' reaction is impulsive rather than based on an evaluation of the underlying technical reality.
The numbers remain solid even after the decline. Post-drop, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is trading near a forward P/E of 60 – approximately two times the industry median of 30x. Its EV/EBITDA is in the upper 80s, and its PEG is above 1.2 as compared to Nvidia at 0.5. Alongside these figures, AMD retains its position as the more expensive, lower-margin, second-place vendor. When valuation multiples carry the weight of a stock's worth, a sudden market shock will hit the stocks with the smallest safety margins the hardest. The fault is not with the company, but the elevated purchase price already set by investors.

Shares of ASML (NASDAQ: ASML) fell after technology publication The Information reported this week that an unnamed Chinese company backed by the Chinese government has begun manufacturing its own chip-making equipment. However, investors shouldn't be worried, as this is unlikely to hurt ASML's fortunes any time soon.
The machines reportedly being made in China are deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines. This is an older technology used to manufacture older chips and the less critical components of advanced chips. DUV machines are also used to manufacture ordinary DRAM and flash memory. While ASML is a top supplier of DUV machines by a wide margin, it is not the only company that makes these machines. ***** anese companies Nikon and Canon also supply them.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
What separates ASML from the pack, though, is that it is the only company in the world with EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) technology, which is needed to make advanced logic chips and is also used to make high-bandwidth memory (HBM). These are extremely complex machines, and competitors outside China have largely given up trying to replicate the technology. These are also the machines that drive ASML's growth. EUV machines can cost more than $220 million apiece, while DUV machines can cost as little as $5 million, with higher-end advanced immersion DUV machines running closer to $90 million.
While a loss of DUV sales to China could impact ASML's revenue, the region now accounts for a smaller share of its overall revenue. The company is restricted from selling EUV and advanced DUV machines to China and is only allowed to sell older-technology systems to Chinese companies. As such, only about 14% of its sales came from the country last quarter. Meanwhile, there was already a bill in Congress set to prevent ASML from selling or servicing machines for the first three Chinese companies expected to receive these homegrown DUV machines, so this revenue was likely to be cut off regardless.

China has started producing domestic immersion deep-ultraviolet lithography tools, Reuters reported on July 28. State-backed Shanghai Aishengna Electronic Technology Group plans to deliver machines to Semiconductor Manufacturing International, Hua Hong Semiconductor and memory producer ChangXin Memory Technologies. Production is expected to remain small, at roughly five systems in 2026 and about 20 in 2027.
The news struck ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) through direct product substitution. Export controls already block the company from selling its most advanced extreme-ultraviolet systems into China, leaving DUV scanners as the main lithography category available there. ASML said China generated 29%, or about €9.5 billion, of 2025 net sales; Reuters Breakingviews noted that this revenue was ***** ociated with DUV machines and services. A domestic machine that passes production qualification could replace specific future ASML scanner orders and reduce Chinese fabs' dependence on ASML service, even if those fabs still prefer its performance.
"Viable" remains the unresolved word. Reuters reported that the Chinese systems still trail ASML in performance and reliability and require further testing. Chipmakers require overlay accuracy, yield, throughput and uptime in sustained high-volume production. Planned output is also modest beside ASML's installed base. The development raises a strategic risk to future China sales, but it does not show that ASML's tools have been replaced.
Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) is connected through a named competitor and a manufacturing bottleneck. CXMT, one of the intended tool recipients, competes in DRAM. If locally serviceable immersion DUV equipment eventually lets CXMT qualify and add reliable commodity-memory output despite tighter foreign-tool restrictions, the additional bits could pressure industry pricing and Micron's margins. That is a supply-curve risk, not evidence that the new tools can already produce competitive high-bandwidth memory for leading AI accelerators.
Micron's current results push against the most bearish interpretation. For its fiscal third quarter ended May 28, the company reported $41.46 billion of revenue and said data center revenue exceeded $25 billion. Management also said DRAM and NAND demand continued to exceed industry supply. China's DUV progress can influence the future supply curve without invalidating those current conditions.

AMSTERDAM, July 28 (Reuters) - China's launch of a homegrown type of advanced lithography chip printing machine is spotlighting how European chip tool maker ASML, whose recent share price surge made it Europe's most valuable listed company, is being squeezed between two sides.
On ‌the one hand, U.S. controls on exports of high-tech goods to China are threatening to reduce access to a major market; and on ‌the other, Beijing's push for technological independence in areas such as chip production raises the possibility of a China-based competitor.
Reuters reported on Tuesday that a little-known Chinese state-owned firm called Shanghai Aishengna Electronic Technology Group was leading an effort to mass produce locally made immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography tools, key to modern chipmaking.
ASML, which dominates the market for DUV and more cutting-edge EUV machines that print circuitry on AI chips, saw its shares fall some 10% in two days following this report, enough to wipe more than €60 billion off its stock market value.

The central referees in the CBF PRO category took part last week in an immersion program in Madrid, Spain, for a series of training sessions ahead of the return of the Brazilian Championship Série A and the Copa do Brasil. The schedule included physical and technical training under the coordination of FIFA and Spanish Football Federation instructors.
The activities were held at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and were coordinated by Jean-Baptiste Bultynck, FIFA physical and technical refereeing ****** yst, Lada Rojc, FIFA technical refereeing instructor, Juan Carlos, refereeing instructor for the Spanish Football Federation, and Jorge Martinez, coordinator of the physical department of the Spanish Football Federation.
Péricles Bassols, vice president of the Refereeing Commission of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), praised the training period at the RFEF and said the referees are returning even stronger for the rest of the Brazilian football season.
"We leave here with an even greater sense of professionalism, not only on the part of the referees, but also as instructors and managers of this process. An immersion like this brings the group together, giving the referees a sense of belonging to something that had never existed before in refereeing. And during the training days, both on the field and in the auditorium, we could see their complete commitment. We made very positive use of the technical side, but there is added value in this immersion that perhaps we cannot measure right now, which is truly their connection to the professional process."

Leading Ethereum treasury firm BitMine Immersion Technologies made its largest ETH-denominated purchase of 2026 last week, adding 126,971 ETH or around $214 million worth of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
The firm’s major acquisition comes amid what the firm sees as a “strengthening case” for Ethereum following the AI-assisted discovery of a vulnerability in privacy protocol Zcash. Uncertainty over whether the vulnerability was actually exploited led to a 40% plunge in the price of Zcash’s ZEC token last week, though it has since recovered some of those losses.
“The broad selloff in crypto, in our view, is a superficial take,” said BitMine Chairman Tom Lee, in a statement. (Disclaimer: Lee is an investor in Decrypt’s parent company, Dastan).
“AI systems are going to find flaws in centralized financial services rails and weak decentralized protocols,” he said. “We believe this actually strengthens the use case and product market fit for hardened and reliable decentralized blockchains like Ethereum.”
Ethereum has rebounded around 4% in the last 24 hours, but has still fallen nearly 15% in the last week of trading, recently changing hands around $1,686.

He noted bitcoin endured six drawdowns greater than 50% and three greater than 75% over the past 8.5 years, arguing crypto’s volatility reflects markets “discounting a massive future” and that investors had to hold through “existential moments.”
The call drew pushback, however.
