WEST LAFAYETTE — Kyle Holderfield's 34th birthday aged the Harrison football coach a decade.
But, alas, it was a joyous celebration by the end of a three-hour offensive showcase between Holderfield's Raiders and West Lafayette.
It wasn't until sophomore Easton Foley's leaping snag of an onside kick attempt that Holderfield could finally enjoy it, though. Foley's recovery with 50 seconds remaining clinched Harrison's 43-40 victory at Gordon Straley Field on Friday, Aug. 21.
"I felt 34 years old at the start of the game, and I feel like I might be 43 at the end of that one," Holderfield said. "That one was exhilarating."

OKOBOJI, Iowa (KCAU) - Last season was one to rembember for Okoboji football as the Pioneers secured the team's most wins in a single season since 2008, but the team is far from satisfied.
Okoboji rolled into mid-October with a 7-0 record, but tumbled in the team's final two games - including a double-digit loss at home to Unity Christian in the first round of the IHSAA 2A Playoffs.
Leading rusher and top returning receiver Asa Jacobsen is back to pace the Pioneers while quarterback Trey Vander Pol is back after throwing for over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. Okoboji returns all but six carries from a year ago.
The Pioneers have turned the page on last season, but are motivated to go even further.
"We felt like we were on top of the world all season. In those those last two games of the season, they suck. But they definitely helped to prepare us for this year. They got us in that mental state that we talk about trying to push past that and get the kids going next year," Jacobsen said. We've got a lot of key pieces back and a lot of guys that are bought in. You can sense the buzz around the town coming into the football season and we're excited to go win some more games this year."

Last season, the senior goalkeeper was named an Indiana Northern State Conference (INSC) Honorable Mention for the IHSAA 1A state runner-up Lions. She made 113 saves.
Last season, the sophomore earned All-NLC honors after leading the Minutemen in scoring with more than 12 goals.

Phoenix Rising fell to four points behind the playoff line after a 1-0 loss away to Lexington SC.
Rising struggled in attack, while Braudílio Rodrigues put the hosts up in the second half. Phoenix defender Luke Biasi also received his second violent conduct red card of the season.
After a weekend in which Phoenix Rising didn't have its top attacking option available in Las Vegas, this was supposed to be an opportunity to show something different. Ihsan Sacko, having missed the last match due to personal reasons, was starting, as was Conrad Ambursley, who had impressed in spurts off the bench.
Instead, things didn't work out.
Despite taking 12 shots throughout the course of the entire match, Phoenix didn't put a single shot on target against Lexington goalkeeper Oliver Semmle.

MIDDLEBURY — Northridge enjoyed a super girls high school golf season in the fall of 2025.
The Ken Brewster-coached Raiders went 15-1 overall and 7-0 in Northern Lakes Conference matches, won the NLC tournament with a team score of 324 at McCormick Creek Golf Course in Nappanee and the IHSAA Northridge Sectional with a 333 at Meadow Valley Golf Club in Middlebury.
It was the program's third straight NLC ***** le and second consecutive sectional crown.
That was followed by a runner-up finish at the IHSAA East ***** le Regional at ***** le Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville. The Raiders shot 312 that day.
In the 2025 IHSAA State Finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Northridge shot 336-342—678 and tied for seventh place.

ATTICA—Pendleton Heights junior Zach Zoeller continued his recent hot streak with a victory Monday on the Indiana Golf ****** ociation's Junior tour.
Zoeller defeated Zach Kinzer from Fishers on the second playoff hole to earn a victory at Harrison Hills after the pair had finished 36 holes deadlocked at 146 (+2).
The 2026 Madison County medalist, who had built on his strong showing at the IHSAA State finals last month with runner-up and fourth-place finishes in his last two outings, was tied with Jack Lantz from Fort Wayne after a one-under par 71 in the first round.
Kinzer was at even par after the first round.
Zoeller recorded four birdies in the first round and three more during an up-and-down second round. A clutch birdie on the par-three 17th hole drew him even with Kinzer, setting up the playoff.

Jul. 2—DANVILLE — For someone who thrives on speed on the track, D'Mario Jackson had one thought running through his mind the night of May 30.
And it didn't involve speed.
This was after he wowed the crowd at the IHSA Class 2A boys' track and field state meet in Charleston. Not just once. Not just twice. But three times.
First, the Danville junior sprinted down the light blue straightaway at O'Brien Field on the Eastern Illinois University campus. His time of 10.59 seconds in the 100-meter dash was good enough to cross the finish line first, just ahead of East St. Louis standout and Auburn running back commit Myson Johnson-Cook, and cross off the first of his state championship pursuits on this day.
Of the three races Jackson specializes in, the 100 sits in the middle among his favorites. His least favorite? Easy. The 400.

Here is a week-by-week look at the nine 2026 regular-season games for Peoria-area high school football teams — including the four Peoria schools in the Big 12 Conference, the eight Mid-Illini Conference teams and the eight small-school Tri-County programs.
The Illinois High School ****** ociation season begins in earnest on Thursday, Aug. 20. The season runs for nine weeks, with the six weeks of the playoffs scheduled to start on Oct. 23. The IHSA championship games are Nov. 27-28 at Illinois State University in Normal.

Bloomington South's seniors went out on a high note at the IHSAA boys golf state tournament at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel on Wednesday, June 17.
Colton Watson, coming off a 1-under 71, fired a 75 to find a spot in the top 10, and Carson Gady had a career-best round at state of 73, as the Panthers settled for a tie for 11th after a second-round 314, four shots better than Round 1.
Watson earned All-State honors after tying for ninth at 146, joining Happy Gilmore (144, tied for seventh in 2023 and 150, tied for eighth in 2021) and Joe Weiler (145, ninth in 2016) as the only top-10 Panthers since Kyle Perry (139) was third in 2007.

Watson was even through the first 11 holes before being bitten by three bogeys down the stretch. He finished just four strokes off the top spot. Watson, who shot 157s the past two years at state, was 45th last year, 39th as a sophomore and 75th as a freshman at state.

The Elkhart High School boys golf team turned in the top first-round showing among a quartet of area teams Tuesday.
Coach Todd King's Lions sit in 10th place after the opening day of the IHSAA State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Tuesday.
Elkhart shot a team total of 316.
Center Grove paced the 18-team field with a three-over par total of 291. Center Grove finished in seventh place in the state finals a year ago. Defending state champion Westfield was second at 295 with Castle third at 297.

After a sensational junior season at Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill., that saw him secure his second consecutive Illinois Mr. Basketball and Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year Awards, Iowa basketball's coveted 2027 four-star target Jaxson Davis announced he will be transferring to a prep school for his senior year.
Davis announced that he is transferring to the newly-formed Monarch Academy in Kansas City, Kan., in Nike’s EYBL Scholastic League
“It is with great excitement, yet mixed emotions, that I announce my commitment to spend my senior year at Monarch Academy,” Davis wrote in his announcement. “My goal has always been to challenge myself, continue growing and become the best player I can be, and after careful consideration, I believe the opportunity to compete on the EYBL circuit will provide the highest level of competition and best prepare me for the transition from high school basketball to the high-major collegiate level.”
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard is now ranked as the No. 42 player overall, as the No. 11 point guard, and as the top player in Kansas, per 247Sports.
In his junior year, Davis averaged 23.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 ****** ists and 3.5 steals for the Blue Devils (30-4), who eventually lost in the Illinois High School ****** ociation (IHSA) Class 4A sectional semifinals this year after advancing to the state championship game in 2025.

As Iowa basketball continues to be active on the recruiting trail, the Hawkeyes have earned a scheduled official visit from coveted four-star point guard Jaxson Davis, who has drawn attention from top-tier programs throughout the nation.
According to Davis, his scheduled trip to Iowa City is set for Sept. 19 and will be the first official visit of his recruiting journey.

Austria and Jordan clash this Wednesday at the Levi´s Stadium of the World Cup. This will be Jordan's World Cup debut. As for Austria's national team, this will mark their 8th participation in the competition. The match will be broadcast live at 05:00 on BBC One.
In their last fixture, Austria won 1-0 against Tunisia (National Team Friendlies 2026). In their last encounter, Jordan were beaten 2-0 by Colombia (National Team Friendlies 2026).

FARMLAND — For the first time in five years, the Golden Bears got to go swimming.
Monroe Central served as the host of an IHSAA boys golf sectional on Monday, June 8, welcoming Cowan, Delta, Jay County, Muncie Central, Randolph Southern, Union City, Union (Modoc), Wapahani, Wes-Del, Winchester Community and Yorktown to Hickory Hills Golf Club. After over six hours of play, the Golden Bears emerged as the sectional champions on their home course with a score of 317.
As is Monroe Central tradition, the team celebrated its first sectional championship since 2021 by jumping into the pond next to hole 3. For senior Cohen West, it was a moment he had waited for his whole high school career.
"It's awesome," West said. "Haven't been able to get it done the past couple of years, but I knew that this was going to be the year. Every day, we practice out here, so it's just nice to get out here, and I think we all had confidence in each other to go out and do it."
While West is the No. 1 player for the Golden Bears, it was junior Maddox Taylor at the No. 2 spot who took home low medalist honors. Taylor shot a 1-over-par 71, while West placed second with a 75, but Taylor was more thrilled that the team got it done for West's last match at Hickory Hills as a Golden Bear golfer.

The week of May 31-June 6 saw the 2026 IHSAA boys state soccer tournament take place.
Gilbert was the lone team from the Ames area to compete at state, and the Tigers made the most of their state experience by winning their second straight Class 2A state championship and third in four years.
It was also an exciting week of high school baseball featuring teams from the Ames area. Roland-Story pushed its unbeaten record to 15-0 by the end of the week, and Ames and Ballard both had impressive showings during the week as well.
Several high school male athletes from the Ames area stood out during the week.

JASPER — Sometimes, it is just not meant to be.
After winning the semi-state semifinal against Cathedral on Saturday, June 6, Memorial softball was just one game away from a trip to West Lafayette for the IHSAA Class 3A state championship. But in the end, the Tigers fell a game short after a 4-1 loss to New Palestine in the semi-state ******* le game.
A few players played their last game for Memorial in the loss to New Palestine, including Annie Blackburn, Madison Thomas and Ellie Eden. Memorial coach Rick Lutz said it will be impossible to replace what his seniors have brought.

But for the returners, this experience was invaluable as they look forward to next season.

INDIANAPOLIS — Even the most gifted high school athletes in the South Bend community battle with self-confidence.
Even state champions get in their own head.
Even people who are more athletic and can run faster than most people could ever dream of feel pressure.
Track and field, like any sport, is almost as much about the mental as it is the physical. That much was certainly true Friday, June 5, at the IHSAA girls track and field state finals at North Central High School.
South Bend Washington senior defending state champion Adriana Swanson may be one of the most accomplished athletes in her home city’s history, but not even she is not immune to pre-race jitters.

This future Army athlete has plenty of motivation to serve his country and compete for the Black Knights.
Adis Hamidovic, a senior at Bloomington North High School in Indiana, has committed to throw for the Army track and field team. He's determined to follow in the footsteps of his mom, Sara, who played multiple sports for Army in the early 2000s. He'll join a Army track program led by coach Mike Smith, who has been named Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year five times since coming to West Point in 2014.
Hamidovic is one of the best throwers in Indiana and could be set up for a big performance this weekend at the IHSAA track and field finals. He took first in the discus (185 feet, one inch) and third in the shot put (56 feet, 7.5 inches) at last week's regional meet. He enters Friday's finals ranked third in the discus and 11th in the shot put.
Sara is bursting with pride over the choice her son has made about his future.
At the same time, it's hard to keep from crying when she talks about exactly where his decision could lead him. She knows firsthand — and it scares the ***** out of her.

It's not the first time Connor Basye has answered the call.
Back in 2015, after his senior season with the Bloomington North basketball team was done, former Cougar head coach Andy Hodson called Basye at 11:30 the night before the Hoosier Basketball Coaches ****** ociation All-Star game was to be held at the Cougar Den. Hodson wondered if he'd like to fill a spot on a roster after another player couldn't make it.
"It was awesome," Basye said at the time. "Even better since we got the win."

Several days ago, Edgewood athletic director Jerry Bland called him up, only this time, the question was whether Basye would like to be the new head boys basketball coach for the Mustangs. Like before, his answer was yes. And yes, he expects to win this time as well.

Alan Hays wasn't the only state hopeful on the Bloomington North boys track team with plenty of hurdles in his way this season.
The Cougars were runner-ups last year and three-time indoor champs, and with most of the crew back, they're looking to grab the first outdoor state ******* le in school history. But things hadn't gone as planned, and until last week's regional, competing for the top spot was suddenly in doubt.
Bodies healed well enough among a few of North's star athletes, but the reason they could bide their time, especially when it came to the Cougars' three relays that all made it to state, was due to the depth and talent around them.

"I'm pretty impressed," North senior Caelan D'Onofrio said. "We've had so many guys step up. Our depth is insane. This is one of the strongest teams I've ever seen overall. We used to be just a heavy distance program, but we've seen everyone come along."

NEWBURGH — Lily Greenwell had zero clue on the location of the softball.
Her first instinct, and the correct one, was to sprint out of the batter's box on contact. Not even as Greenwell burned past second base did it occur that the ball was sitting 15 feet beyond the right field wall at Lockyear Field. It took seeing her teammates spill out of the dugout for everything to finally click.
That swing won the Class 4A regional championship.

No. 13 Castle defeated Seymour 5-4 on Tuesday, June 2, to earn its seventh regional ******* le in program history. This one, highlighted by Greenwell's walk-off bomb, will be towards the top of the list.
