The Elkhart High School boys golf team turned in the top first-round showing among a quartet of area teams Tuesday.
Coach Todd King's Lions sit in 10th place after the opening day of the IHSAA State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Tuesday.
Elkhart shot a team total of 316.
Center Grove paced the 18-team field with a three-over par total of 291. Center Grove finished in seventh place in the state finals a year ago. Defending state champion Westfield was second at 295 with Castle third at 297.
