Tadej Pogacar produced another peerless performance as he soloed to victory from 50km from the finish on the mountainous fourth stage of the Vuelta a Espana.
The Slovenian, who is riding the Vuelta for only the second time in his career and for the first time in seven years, was the overwhelming pre-race favourite and had been widely expected to put the competition to bed in the opening week.
Stage three's cancellation due to severe hailstorms prevented him from making a late raid on the final climb to Font Romeu and delivering that statement of intent.
But he made up for lost time on stage four, attacking on the second of three category-one climbs, the Collada de Beixalis. None of his rivals had any response to his acceleration on the 6.5km, 8.5% climb, and they were left scrapping among themselves for the minor places over the remaining 50km.
Victory in Andorra la Vella marked his longest solo victory at a grand tour, at the only one of the three which he is left to win, and his second in four days, having claimed victory and the leader's jersey on stage one's individual time trial.

Wesley Bailey had one of the best defensive performances of the 2026 preseason yet. The UDFA out of Louisville earned 10 pressures in Saturday afternoon's contest between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints.
But a breakout game doesn't necessarily translate to security on the 53-man roster.
We've seen other Bailey's with the Rams before. 2021 brought Chris Garrett's breakout—and Garrett was drafted by the team whereas Bailey wasn't.

Simone Fontecchio: "We didn't even consider returning to Europe this summer. So I don't even know: we didn't look for any offers. When this opportunity in Miami came up, I just accepted." He's approaching 31 and has signed a one-year contract. What are your thoughts going forward? "Nothing at the moment, to be honest. I'm just trying to enjoy what's ahead of me: these two international matches, followed by a super exciting year professionally. I'm happy that my family can stay in the same place for two years in a row: the place where I want to be, and I feel wanted and appreciated. I'm not even thinking about next year."

Scorebug mafia, rise up.
ESPN has soft launched a new scorebug and graphics package during this evening's preseason game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans that will largely resemble what NFL fans will see during February's Super Bowl, the first to ever air on ESPN.
"As part of our ongoing commitment to elevate our fan experience, we are excited to soft launch a brand new graphics and animation package that will culminate with our first-ever Super Bowl," an ESPN spokesperson told Awful Announcing regarding the new bug.
The restyling is largely in line with ESPN's rebrand ahead of the launch of its direct-to-consumer product a year ago. There is emphasis on the network's black and red color scheme. The bug's font features the seven-degree angle by which the "E" in the ESPN logo is oriented. And the curvature of the "N" is featured in the top-right portion of the bug.
Overall, the new scorebug is inoffensive. ESPN goes with using the team logos over any abbreviations. Down and distance are centered with the game clock and play clock. Timeouts are displayed prominently under each team's score. There's nothing revolutionary going on, but there was no need to reinvent the wheel in the first place.

The New York Islanders want your opinion.
Earlier this summer, the team opened a jersey design contest to allow a fan to come up with their third jersey for the 2027-28 season.
No Adobe Illustrator skills were necessary — an online portal with a set number of logos, striping, colors and fonts made it easy for graphic design experts and kindergarten students alike.
There was no shortage of submissions: more than 80,000 designs came in, according to the team. Islanders staff narrowed the selection down to eight jerseys, putting them out to a series of fan votes with a bracket-style elimination process.
The third and final round of voting opened Tuesday, pitting a navy blue lighthouse jersey against an "Islanders" word mark to decide the winner.

The Arizona Cardinals began during the early years of the game of American Football, which was coming into existence. This new sport sprang up from the sport of rugby. And rugby came from soccer, which is officially called "football" on a global scale.
Teams back then didn't have home and away jerseys. They owned one set that followed the origins of baseball. In those days, baseball teams all had basically the same uniforms, so they had different colored socks. That is why the "Cincinnati Red Stockings" (Reds), "Chicago White Stockings" (White Sox), and "Boston Red Stockings" (Red Sox) still have this history to their franchise team names.
RELATED: CARDINALS ALMOST RELOCATED TO EVANSTON, ILLINOIS?
Stockings were used instead of traditional socks because they could travel from the cleat/shoes all the way to just below the knee. This long area covered the entire shin and gave a good glimpse of the color.
Almost every professional sports team has made some sort of change, whether that's in a team name, colors, team logos, uniforms, city, stadium, owners, or franchise letter font.

Raul Rosas Jr. has his first main event booked in the UFC. On September 26, he takes on veteran Raoni Barcelos in the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Also, for Barcelos, it is his first main event in the UFC. The 39-year-old Brazilian is 18 years older than his opponent, Rosas Jr.
The UFC announced the UFC Vegas 121 bantamweight booking during the UFC 330 broadcast. Rosas Jr. is currently ranked No. 12 in the media rankings, while Barcelos sits at No. 13 in the media rankings and No. 9 in the meta rankings.
Raul Rosas Jr. earned his UFC contract in 2022 during the Contender Series. The 17-year-old fighter beat Mando Gutierrez via unanimous decision. Just after turning 18, Rosas Jr. burst into the UFC with a first-round face-crank submission over Jay Perrin. While he initially looked unstoppable, he suffered his first and only career defeat in his sophomore outing, losing to Christian Rodriguez via unanimous decision.
He ended the year with a quick TKO win over Terrence Mitchell. In 2024, Rosas Jr. fought twice and won both times against Ricky Turcios and Aoriqileng. After also winning in 2025 against Vince Morales, the young fighter got a shot at the rankings earlier this year, taking on Rob Font. Rosas Jr. outgrappled Font to win a unanimous decision. Now, ranked in the bantamweight division, he takes on Raoni Barcelos.
Before signing with the UFC in 2018, Barcelos had already won multiple ****** les in other promotions. Barcelos had an amazing start to his UFC career, winning his first five fights and earning two bonuses for 'Fight of the Night' performances. The Brazilian fighter looked to close in on a ranking spot but had a very bad period between 2021 and 2023, winning only one of five fights.

Luke Fahey has put himself in the mix with Tavien St. Clair to be Ohio State's backup quarterback this year.
"He's really been going a great job," Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said. "He's putting a lot of pressure on Tavien. He really is. He's been competing. He's been making plays."
There had been little intrigue over the depth chart at the position before Fahey's emergence during preseason training camp.
Not only did the Buckeyes return Heisman Trophy finalist Julian Sayin as their starting quarterback, but St. Clair was presumed to be moving up a spot after he spent last year at No. 3 and stood out during the spring game in April.
St. Clair, a native of Bellefontaine who was the first Ohio high school quarterback since Joe Burrow to sign a scholarship agreement with Ohio State, was also a highly billed five-star prospect.

Vanderbilt football's deepest position may be at safety. At least players at the position believe so.
There's a good blend of returners and new talent. CJ Heard is back after co-leading the team with 71 tackles a year ago. While Marlen Sewell and Randon Fontenette are gone, Dontae Carter, Carson Lawrence and Jalen Gilbert return after being reserves at the position in 2025.
Davin Chandler could be a breakout candidate after appearing in one game as a freshman. Then there's Clemson transfer Ricardo Jones, who had six interceptions a year ago and was a All-ACC third team selection.
"My goal here is to get that plus more every year," Jones said Aug. 11.
The safeties are simultaneously young and experienced. There are only two seniors at the position − Gilbert and Payne Daniel − and no fifth-year players. But the group has plenty of starting experience.

The Trump administration's Department of Transportation (DOT) has proposed loosening a 2011 Obama-era rule that requires airlines and travel sites to show the total price travelers actually pay.
The current "full fare advertising rule," which centers on consumer protection, requires both U.S. and foreign air carriers and ticket agents that advertise airfares to "state the entire price to be paid by the customer, inclusive of all mandatory taxes and fees," (including both government and carrier surcharges) at the first mention. The rule also prohibits any sellers of air transportation from "displaying in airfare advertisements charges that are included within the airfare more prominently or in the same or larger font size than the total single price."

Simone Fontecchio admits he passed up more lucrative offers to stay with the Miami Heat originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With the Miami Heat desperate for perimeter shooting, they got a big-time steal with how they re-signed Simone Fontecchio. On the current roster, he is their best three-point shooter. In the 70 games he played in the 2025-26 season, he shot 37.5% on his 4.7 attempts per game.
Now that he will be playing alongside Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo, he will have more freedom to move off the ball and get more open shots. Considering he is one of the few forwards who can be relied upon to hit shots, the Heat could have struck gold with the veteran minimum deal they got for Fontecchio.
The modern NBA team needs shooters around their best players to maximize the offense. In this current Heat offense, it is mostly about driving into the paint and finishing at the rim. The two primary options are Adebayo and Antetokounmpo, who are both known to score in the paint or at least from the mid-range area.
It seems they are well aware of the narrative surrounding their perimeter shooting, which is why they have had a lot of workouts in the past few weeks with their shooting. However, they do have some solutions at home, including Fontecchio, who could be a crucial player moving forward.

With the new contract for running back Bijan Robinson, the Falcons have recently given big deals to four young players who have become part of the nucleus of the team.
Beyond Robinson, the Falcons have extended 2021 first-round tight end Kyle Pitts (three years, $54 million), 2022 first-round receiver Drake London (four years, $141 million), and 2023 second-round guard Matthew Bergeron (four years, $96 million).
While some could reasonably quibble about the value of the various contracts when considering the players' on-field accomplishments to date (except for Robinson, who was a bargain), the new regime in Atlanta clearly regards all four players as key pieces for the present and foreseeable future.
That raises a question. Who drafted those players? It was former G.M. Terry Fontenot. Although the Kirk Cousins-Michael Penix Jr. misadventure from 2024 likely doomed everyone whose fingerprints were on those bang-bang decisions that blew up for the Falcons, Fontenot clearly did his job capably when it comes to selecting players whom the Falcons have since compensated as "keepers."
The other side of the coin is the question of whether the Falcons may be overcommitting cash and cap ****** e to Pitts, London, and Bergeron. Each contract represents a prediction that they'll earn the money. If they do, great. If they don't, the Falcons could end up in a cap crunch with not much to show for it.

World number four Felix Auger-Aliassime will be playing for local pride when the ATP Montreal Masters begins on Sunday in his hometown.
The Canadian returns as second seed to a tournament he attended frequently as a budding young player, when he used to watch and study his sporting idols up close in training between matches.
"There were several times when I didn't have a ticket, so I would watch all the training sessions," he said on Saturday at the event, where he is seeded behind Roland Garros winner and Wimbledon runner-up Alexander Zverev.
"I learned even more things during training since they (fans) have the chance to be very, very close to the players."
Auger-Aliassime recently split with his longtime coach of 10 years, Frederic Fontang, after losing a frustrating Wimbledon five-set quarter-final to Novak Djokovic.

CUMBERLAND – What is now a shopping plaza that includes a Stop & Shop and a McDonald's holds a noted place in American auto racing history: It is the site of the first sanctioned stock car race in the United States outside the South.
Not only would the first stock car races in the North be held in ***** berland, but the national championship would be decided there.
On Oct. 26, 1947, Fonty Flock, of Atlanta, won the national championship race on the one-third-mile, high-banked, paved oval track of the Lonsdale Sports Arena off Mendon Road on the bank of the Blackstone River, just downstream from Pratt Dam.
A crowd of 18,000 watched the seven races that Sunday afternoon, part of a program sanctioned by National Stock Car Circuit head Bill France, who, a couple of months later, would become head of the newly formed NASCAR, the governing body of stock car auto racing.
Only days before the history-making auto races, Lonsdale Sports Arena made history in another sport: The bowl-shaped arena hosted 32,000 spectators in what was the largest football crowd ever in Rhode Island at that time, as Cranston High School beat La Salle Academy, 20-2. The huge crowd snarled traffic for hours in the area.

A cold Diet ***** e—sometimes paired with a shot of espresso—has become one of social media's favorite afternoon rituals. Gen Z even gave it a nickname: the "fridge cigarette." That's why it was so strange when Coca-Cola introduced a new font that eerily resembled an iconic one straight out of the cigarette world.
"Coke and Marlboro had a baby—and it's a font!," one X user wrote after seeing the company's updated typography. Others echoed the comparison, saying Coca-Cola's refreshed typography looked strikingly similar to Marlboros, in a case of reality imitating memes. Still others wondered whether the company had unintentionally leaned into the internet's "fridge cigarette" joke.
"Is Coca Cola rebranding like that because we all started calling 'em fridge cigarettes???," another fan questioned.
Coca-Cola said the refresh was designed to create "one iconic look" across more than 200 markets by updating its packaging and typography.
"This refresh is about being clearer and more consistent in how we show up, wherever people experience our brand," Arnab Roy, president of Coca-Cola Global Category, said in a statement on Monday. "By building on the things people already know and love, we're creating a stronger foundation for growth while staying unmistakably Coca-Cola."

Broadcom's Hock Tan guided Q3 AI chip revenue to $16 billion, up over 200% year-over-year, while TSMC guided full-year 2026 revenue growth above 40%.
Laffont's five holdings form a closed AI infrastructure loop spanning power, fabrication, tools, and custom silicon, with four of the five currently rated BUY.
Act now: the **** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Philippe Laffont's Coatue Management just showed its hand: the latest 13F filing (holdings as of March 31, 2026) parks its biggest chips on a single trade: the AI infrastructure buildout. The five names below, all US-listed, represent Laffont's largest long common-stock and ADR positions. One of them just booked $10.80 billion in AI semiconductor revenue in a single quarter, growing 143% year-over-year. The setup is worth understanding before it reprices.
Every AI accelerator on this list is useless without electrons. That is why GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) is the most surprising name in Laffont's tech basket: it sits one level upstream of the chips, building the gas turbines, grid equipment, and electrification hardware that hyperscalers are now ordering by the gigawatt. This is the AI trade one level upstream of NVIDIA. Q1 2026 revenue rose 15.8% year-over-year to $9.30 billion, but the real signal was orders: $18.30 billion, up 71% organically, with Electrification booking $2.4 billion in data center equipment orders in Q1 alone, more than all of 2025. CEO Scott Strazik put it plainly: "Demand is accelerating for our Power and Electrification solutions... backlog growing by more than $13 billion quarter-over-quarter."

The Atlanta Falcons did not have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they added two players in Round 1 of last year's draft. Edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. both impressed as rookies (on the field), however, the team still missed the playoffs last season.
The Falcons' blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams to acquire Pearce in 2025 left general manager Ian Cunningham a bit shorthanded in his first draft taking over for Terry Fontenot. The team's philosophy on draft capital has shifted under Cunningham, but Fontenot definitely hit on a few of his first-round picks.
The Falcons drafted Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson in consecutive years. While the jury is still out on Michael Penix Jr., most of Fontenot's Round 1 picks were solid.
CBS Sports' Mike Renner ranked all 191 first-round draft picks since 2020. The Falcons have had seven first-round selections over that span, so let's see where they were ranked.

The first teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Women's Copa do Brasil were confirmed on Monday night (20). Ferroviária, Flamengo, and Internacional defeated Corinthians, Instituto 3B, and Coritiba respectively. The three teams that advanced all won 1-0. The competition continues this Tuesday (21) with three more matchups: Fluminense vs. Cruzeiro, Itabirito vs. Bahia, and Vasco da Gama vs. São Paulo.
Ferroviária secured its spot by defeating Corinthians 1-0 at Arena Fonte Luminosa in Araraquara (SP). The Grená Warriors opened the scoring in the first half through center back Andressa. For the rest of the match, Ferrinha handled the pressure from Brabas and held on to the score until the final whistle.
Flamengo advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Instituto 3B 1-0 in a match played at Luso Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro. Fernanda found the net for the Girls of Gávea in the 22nd minute. During the first half, the Rubro-Negro controlled the match, but it was the team from Amazonas that stood out in the second half. Despite their efforts, Instituto 3B was unable to convert its chances.

After three years with LSU baseball, Grant Fontenot is heading to the next level. The Kansas City Royals selected the right-handed pitcher in the tenth round with pick No. 299 in the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday. The slot value of the pick is $195,600.
Fontenot played five years of college baseball, three of which were in Baton Rouge. He redshirted at LSU in 2022 then played a season apiece at McLennan Community College and Texas before returning to the Tigers in 2025. He was a part of the national championship team then stuck around for another season.
The six-foot-three righty hails from Lafayette, LA. Fontenot posted a 4.18 ERA through 21 appearances, including four starts. He picked up 42 strikeouts over 32.1 innings of mostly relief work in 2026. It was the heaviest workload of his college career at the Power Four level.
Fontenot became the fourth former Tiger from the 2026 squad to be taken in the draft. He follows Derek Cruiel (No. 5 overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates), Jake Brown (No. 65 overall to the Seattle Mariners) and Deven Sheerin (No. 128 overall to the Philadelphia Phillies).

Victory Freight Corp. listed unsecured creditor Raul Contreras as having a nearly $3.1 million claim but also reported that the money is in dispute, according to the bankruptcy petition.
The legal case involves an Aug. 8, 2024, highway crash in Fontana, California, in which a commercial truck crashed into a vehicle driven by Contreras, causing significant damage to the automobile and significant injuries to the victim, according to a June 2025 complaint.
The trucking business has denied the claims in the complaint, which include alleged negligence. According to the complaint, Victory Freight employed the truck driver and owned the truck. The case is ongoing in San Bernardino Superior Court.

The Atlanta Falcons were somewhat careless with their money during the last few seasons under former general manager Terry Fontenot. While fans will likely never get over the team giving Kirk Cousins $100 million before drafting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. one month later, Fontenot had some free-agent hits as well.
The Falcons signed star safety Jessie Bates III, who has been stellar over three seasons in Atlanta. Those around the league scoffed after the team signed Divine Deablo last year, but the veteran linebacker was among the best defensive players on the roster.
Cornerback Mike Hughes has been solid and Darnell Mooney looked like a steal after his first season with the team. However, current Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham was hamstrung by the mistakes Fontenot made, and could only sign bargain-level free agents in the offseason.
Cunningham has done a good job of retaining talent, though. He extended both Drake London and Kyle Pitts, which brought Atlanta's salary cap ******* e up to $37.9 million.
After looking at the Falcons' top-paid offensive players yesterday, here's a look at the team's 10 highest-paid defensive players based of their 2026 salary cap hits (all numbers via Over The Cap).

Kylian Mbappé continues to cement his place among the greatest players in World Cup history.
After scoring and providing an ******* ist in France's 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco, the Real Madrid star reached 11 direct goal involvements at the 2026 tournament - eight goals and three ******* ists.
The achievement sees Mbappé become the first player in 56 years to record 11 or more goal contributions at a single World Cup. The last to do so was Germany legend Gerd Müller, who scored 10 goals and registered three ******* ists during the 1970 tournament.
Before Müller, France icon Just Fontaine produced the most remarkable individual World Cup campaign of all, scoring a record 13 goals at the 1958 finals - a mark that still stands today.
Mbappé's latest exploits also eclipse several other legendary World Cup performances, including his own outstanding campaign in Qatar, where he finished with eight goals and two ******* ists, as well as Diego Maradona's iconic 1986 tournament. The Argentine captain scored five goals and set up another five as he inspired Argentina to World Cup glory.

South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley just let the world know that she’s a big fan of BYU’s Diljeet Taylor.
Staley appeared on Citius Mag’s Prefontaine Classic show on Saturday and shared her admiration for BYU’s women’s cross-country head coach and ***** ociate director of track and field.
“I’ve seen the way Diljeet coaches her players,” Staley said. “She’s a mentor. She’s mom-like. She is someone that gives the athlete all of her, like she meets the athlete where they are on any given day.”
In 2024, Staley and Taylor were named to Nike’s Athlete Think Tank, the Deseret News previously reported. They were part of the first coaches cohort of the think tank, along with U.S. women’s national soccer team head coach Emma Hayes and former Olympic volleyball coach Jenny Lang Ping.
“You probably have to hold her back because she wants to get on the track and just kind of will her athletes to the finish line, and that’s what it takes,” Staley said.

Record-setting Washington Huskies pole vaulters Hana and Amanda Moll returned to Eugene, Oregon, where they just went 1-2 in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, on Friday for the senior-level Prefontaine Classic in the Diamond League, track and field's top tier of meets.
In a nine-woman competition comprised almost entirely of Americans, the twins were the youngest competitors by about eighteen months, but that didn't stop them from finishing 4th and 6th. They finished in the opposite order from last month's NCAA Championships, with Hana leading the way with a clearance of 4.70m while Amanda bowed out with a clearance of 4.60m.
The meet was won by Sandi Morris, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in the event, who matched her jump from that day in Rio de Janeiro with a clearance of 4.85m. Katie Moon, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist and reigning Olympic silver medalist, was second at 4.80m. Gabriela Leon, the 2022 NCAA champion in the pole vault, was third at 4.70m, while veteran Emily Grove, a former Diamond League meet winner, tied with Hana for fourth.
Neither twin was quite at their best, as both are in the top five clearances in the world this year. Morris' 4.85 vault on Friday pushed her into a tie for third-best mark in the world with Great Britain's Molly Caudery, who cleared that bar in March at a meet in Poland. Hana's 4.88m mark in Dempsey Indoor this January is the second-best clearance in the world, however, trailing only Polina Knoroz of Russia, who cleared 4.91m at a Russian meet two weeks ago. Amanda's 4.84m clearance to win the NCAA **** le last month is the fifth-best clearance in the world.
Amanda told reporters after the meet that both sisters expect to compete in the Monaco Diamond League event on July 10 before Amanda likely ends her season.
