NORTH KINGSTOWN – Three Maher sisters were finally together again on the pitch Thursday night, and the youngest had herself quite a ***** berland girls soccer debut.
Shea Maher scored two goals inside the final five minutes to decide this Division I clash of contenders against North Kingstown. The Clippers left Perry Athletic Complex with all three points thanks to a talented newcomer.
Maher found the net in the 75th minute and converted a penalty kick soon after to push ***** berland over the top. The Skippers had no time to respond in a 2-0 opening defeat, a match that's been seemingly inevitable in November's playoffs multiple times in recent seasons.

Maher's solo run and left-footed finish on the opener would have been enough. She added some insurance from the spot just moments later, drilling a right-footed shot into the lower left corner. The Clippers made an early case they should be right back in the running atop the league after winning the 2023 crown and falling on penalty kicks to North Kingstown in the 2024 final.

Former Willamette High School standout Tony **** berland continues to recover from undisclosed injuries he sustained in a car accident in late March.
The Oregon football freshman defensive tackle isn't practicing with the Ducks during fall camp. He also missed the spring practice season in April.
"It's a work in progress with him," Oregon defensive line coach Tony Tuioti said Aug. 17. "I don't think it's going to be anything that we'll be able to see him soon. But he's made so much progress. I think the thing that's most important is that we have him with us and just having him in the room brings a smile to all our faces."
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound **** berland was the No. 1 recruit in the state last season and a top-100 national recruit according to the 247sports.com composite rankings.
As a senior with the Wolverines in 2025, **** berland had 102 tackles, 14 sacks and 26 tackles for a loss of yards.

On Monday, defensive line coach Tony Tuioti noted that freshman Tony ******* berland still has "a ways to go" in his recovery from a car accident in the spring. The accident left ******* berland with injuries that forced him to miss the spring season, and he still hasn't returned to the field less than a month away from Oregon's first game.
"It's a work in progress with him," Tuioti said. "I don't think it's going to be anything that we'll be able to see him soon. But he's made so much progress. I think the thing that's most important is that we have him with us, and just having him in the room brings a smile to all our faces."
Cumberland was the top recruit in Oregon in the 2026 recruiting class after transferring and spending his last two seasons in high school at Willamette High School. As a senior, the 6-foot-5 defensive lineman racked up 102 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and a pair of deflections. He was also rated as a top 100 recruit in the country, per 247 Sports.
The Ducks could use ******* berland along the interior as more young depth at the position. With ******* berland on the sideline, the Ducks have turned to fellow freshman Anthony "Tank" Jones Jr., who has gained more than 50 pounds since arriving on campus and reaching 300 pounds, according to Tuioti, signaling a potential move to the interior.

CUMBERLAND – What is now a shopping plaza that includes a Stop & Shop and a McDonald's holds a noted place in American auto racing history: It is the site of the first sanctioned stock car race in the United States outside the South.
Not only would the first stock car races in the North be held in ***** berland, but the national championship would be decided there.
On Oct. 26, 1947, Fonty Flock, of Atlanta, won the national championship race on the one-third-mile, high-banked, paved oval track of the Lonsdale Sports Arena off Mendon Road on the bank of the Blackstone River, just downstream from Pratt Dam.
A crowd of 18,000 watched the seven races that Sunday afternoon, part of a program sanctioned by National Stock Car Circuit head Bill France, who, a couple of months later, would become head of the newly formed NASCAR, the governing body of stock car auto racing.
Only days before the history-making auto races, Lonsdale Sports Arena made history in another sport: The bowl-shaped arena hosted 32,000 spectators in what was the largest football crowd ever in Rhode Island at that time, as Cranston High School beat La Salle Academy, 20-2. The huge crowd snarled traffic for hours in the area.

The arrival of next year's Tour de France in ****** bria will be a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to get involved with a sporting event viewed as among the best in the world, bike enthusiasts say.
The opening stage of the men's race finishes in Carlisle on 2 July, with the second starting in Keswick the next day and passing Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere.
Secretary of Carlisle Cycling ****** ociation Fiona Graham told the BBC the county had "never seen anything like this before".
Cumberland Council leader Mark Fryer said "thousands and thousands of people" were expected to line the routes, but he added "it's as much about our own communities [enjoying it] as the visitors".
It will be the fifth time the UK has partly staged the men's event after 1974, 1994, 2007 and 2014.
