It's safe to say Paul Hollywood grew up on staple English foods like sticky toffee pudding, Scotch eggs, jam roly-poly, and beans on toast. And while Americans may think barbecue-less beans with a light tomato-based sauce piled on toast sounds just plain weird, many Brits are similarly perplexed by the idea of a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood is one such Brit who used to think PB&J seemed like an unusual pairing — until he tried it, that is.
The renowned baker and television personality told Mashed that, while he had been curious about peanut ****** er and jelly sandwiches, having heard about them in movies, he didn't grow up with them and remained skeptical. "I was always like, 'What are you crazy? That doesn't go together,'" he said. He'd had both spreads separately before but only had them together when someone on "The Great British Bake Off" made him a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood didn't fall in love with the sandwich but dubbed it "all right." At least he can now see the appeal of the beloved sweet-and-savory combination. Perhaps he'd be more fond of Ina Garten's elevated PB&J.

So, peanut ****** er and jelly didn't wow Paul Hollywood. But one sandwich the "Bake Off" judge does love is an egg and cress, another traditional British favorite often served with afternoon tea. The simple sando features creamy egg salad and peppery watercress nestled between slices of soft bread. But there's one thing he thinks his favorite sandwich should have in common with the average American first-grader's PB&J. In a short video shared on Facebook, Hollywood declared that he prefers to upgrade tea sandwiches by cutting the crusts of his bread off. The celebrity chef also mentioned that he enjoys a ham and cheese sandwich on a crusty baguette as well as a steak sandwich with rocket (aka arugula) on focaccia bread.

Following Newcastle United losing to Strasbourg on penalties, I played up to the Geordie stereotype by comfort eating a Greggs (Chicken Bake in case you were wondering) and reflected on the previous two hours I'd spent seeing the start of the NUFC Matthias Jaissle Era for myself.
Many questions swirled around my head such as 'Is Dan Burn the right man to captain the club?' and…
'How long will we be able to hold on to Sean Steur for?'
But the one that hit me hardest was 'Is this the worst Premier League pre-season the club has had in recent memory?'
Now before you all grab your pitchforks and torches ready to hang draw and quarter me for yet ANOTHER doomsayer post about Newcastle United before a ball has even kicked, I want to preface this by saying that the 2025/26 season wasn't a truly awful season. Yes there were terrible moments like the poor league finish, the whimpering exit in the Champions League and the crème de la crème of Geordie humiliation in the double derby loss – but objectively, there were also a few positives such as yet another fantastic league cup run with our third semi-final appearance in four seasons.

Last summer, Representative Sara Jacobs would run up to her office to give herself injections of hormones before rushing back to Congress for a session with her fellow lawmakers.
The shots were for the second round of freezing her eggs, a medical procedure that can give women more time to have children.
"It was an empowering decision that gave me more agency," the 37-year-old said, adding that the process was challenging.
"Your body hurts. Your hormones are crazy. It's kind of like ****** rty and menopause at the same time," she said.
Jacobs announced she was beginning the egg freezing process in 2021, at a time where she said few lawmakers were discussing the topic in the halls of Congress. The process - which can cost more than $10,000 and is rarely covered by insurance - involves doctors harvesting eggs from the ovaries and freezing them for a future pregnancy.

(NEXSTAR) – A recall affecting nearly 1.6 million cartons of eggs has been ******* igned to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's most serious risk category.
The recall, which was initiated over concerns of potential salmonella enteritidis contamination, was categorized on Wednesday by the FDA as "Class I," indicating "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."
The new Class I designation was included in the agency's enforcement report for the existing recall.
Nearly 30,000 pounds of beef recalled under highest 'Class 1' risk level
The FDA has explained, however, that it often categorizes a recall well after the initiating firm makes the recall announcement, so it should not necessarily be viewed "as an expansion or change" to the firm's initial recall.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly split from ex-fiancé Riley Roberts before deciding to freeze her eggs.
Leigh Ann Caldwell, Puck's Chief Washington Correspondent, reported on Tuesday, August 11, that Ocasio-Cortez, 36, and Roberts called it quits, though the timeline remains unclear.
"I was told by a reputable Democratic source about 18 months ago that her engagement was called off," Caldwell shared via X. "AOC stopped wearing her engagement ring several months before that."
TMZ also reported the former couple had gone their separate ways, pointing to Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts last being photographed at the Met Gala in 2021.
However, one user on X pointed out that Manhattan's Black Iron Burger shared a photo of Ocasio-Cortez with an unidentified man in May. Meanwhile, another suggested she and Roberts were recently seen walking together — although the subjects in the photo cannot be identified as it only shows the back of their heads.

For the third consecutive series, the Giants have won the opener and lost the last two.
While quality pitching, along with some shoddy defense, couldn't sustain itself over the entire game on Saturday, blame for Sunday's extra inning 3-1 loss rests solely on the shoulders of San Francisco's hitters.
After Willy Adames's 5th inning solo shot on Friday night, the offense had laid nothing but eggs against Detroit pitchers. Jackson Jobe and Co. held them scoreless yesterday. A couple of fortunate breaks on ******* in play and a throwing error helped the Giants complete their only circuit of the bases against a dominant Troy Melton (fun fact: he's a former teammate with Casey Schmitt at SDSU). But when the game came down to the wire, the final 7 hitters from the 8th to the 10th innings did this: ground into a bases loaded double play, then strike out six times.
Over the last 21 innings of this series, the offense scored just one run.
A run that was nearly enough for Logan Webb, who stifled a hot Tigers team over 8 innings. The work was fast too. Webb pitched at a brutal pace and attacked the zone with 66% strike-percentage. From his main trio of offerings, the sweeper was Sunday's star. He leaned on it heavily on his first trip down the order, and overall, nearly half (14 of 30) of his breaking ******* went for called strikes. Clearly Detroit hitters were sitting on the change-up and sinker and Webb played coy with those main offerings, withholding them early in the count, feathering them in more and more the deeper he got into the game.

Serie A side Roma have been linked with a big move for Real Madrid's Endrick but they are now unlikely to put all their eggs in one basket.
They already made that mistake earlier this summer and missed out on both Crysencio Summerville and Mason Greenwood. A move for Antonio Nusa is also unlikely to take off.
Porto's Rodrigo Mora is emerging as a major target now.
Alfredo Pedulla has reported that Roma intend to soon submit an offer worth €45 million for the 19-year-old Porto talent.
The teenager's current release clause stands at €70 million but Porto have agreed to let him seek a move for well below that price. Roma want to invest the amount they were about to spend on Summerville and all of it could now be invested in Mora, who is also much younger.

First Watch reported another quarter of growth, with a 3.4% increase in same-store sales, driven largely by an expanded marketing strategy focused on improving overall brand awareness. The Bradenton, Florida-based full-service breakfast company also benefited from a 3.7% pricing increase for the quarter, as well as commodities deflation as some parts of the supply chain stabilize.
First Watch also noted a pattern of traffic improvement, particularly in June, though overall traffic was flat for the quarter. New First Watch CFO Ashley Weisser, who was promoted in June, said that the 0.4% dip in traffic was partially due to cannibalization, as the company opens more stores and customers visit new locations, but don't leave the brand.
"Benefits from our marketing investments were a significant contributor to our Q2 performance," CEO Chris Tomasso said during Tuesday's earnings call for the quarter ended June 28. "Since implementing an expanded marketing strategy early last year, brand awareness has been building, and we believe contributing to our improved same restaurant traffic trends and overall same restaurant sales growth, our marketing objectives are focused on driving at least one more visit from existing customers, while also positioning First Watch squarely in the consideration set for new customers."
Beyond marketing, the company noted the positive performance of its LTO menu, including the Chimichurri Steak and Eggs Hash, which ran from January through May and became its best-selling LTO item of all time.

Miranda Kerr has revealed she has a ban on eating both eggs and sushi, and refuses to rule out having a facelift in the future.
The supermodel opened up about her regimented eating and wellness habits in an interview with Kristin Cavallari on her Let's Be Honest podcast.
"I've seen some people, even friends, that have had facelifts and actually look amazing," Miranda, 43, told her host. "And I'm like, 'yeah, this is interesting. Good research, good research."
The mother of four explained she had based her thoughts about facelifts in part around something Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner, 70, had said.
"It's one of those things that I guess you don't really know until you really know," Miranda reflected. "Because you're like, you think like, okay, you want to be the best version of yourself. I heard Kris Jenner say something like, she wanted to feel the way she felt on the inside. And that made a lot of sense. Like she was looking in the mirror, and she was like, that's not how I feel on the inside. It wasn't matching. And so I get it, like, you just want to help gravity."
Elsewhere in the interview, Miranda, who is married to billionaire Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, admitted she had particular rules around what she will and won't eat - with eggs and sushi both on the banned list.

Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.

Barcelona are not putting all their eggs in one basket as they continue their pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
While the Atletico Madrid forward remains the club's preferred target to strengthen Hansi Flick's attack, the operation has become increasingly complicated, prompting the Blaugrana hierarchy to explore alternative options.
On that note, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already begun ******* sing a list of potential replacements should a deal for Alvarez ultimately fail to materialise.
Barcelona's opening proposal of €100 million for Alvarez was reportedly met with a firm response from Atletico Madrid, who are said to value the Argentine at €120 million while also asking for a high-profile player to be included in the deal.
The Catalan club have no intention of accepting those terms, leaving negotiations at a delicate stage.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: A lot of the big headlines to come out of Brian Cashman's media availability on Thursday were around the status and recovery of Aaron Judge and his rib injury. Also during that availability, Cashman noted that the performances the Yankees have gotten from the catcher position this season have been an issue. While he emphasized that he's looking to improve themselves in total as opposed to putting all the eggs in one position's basket, he acknowledged that catcher has become an unexpected area of concern.
The Trentonian | Greg Johnson: One annual event during the All-Star Game weekend festivities is the Futures Game played between some of the top prospects from around baseball. The Yankees were set to be represented in this year's event by shortstop George Lombard Jr. and pitcher Carlos Lagrange. However, both have been ruled out with injury. In their place, the Yankees will now send pitcher Ben Grable, an 11th-round pick from Indiana last year who is now in the Somerset Patriots' bullpen. He's much lower in the Yankees' prospect pecking order, but is having a nice 2026 season.
MLB.com | Byron Kerr: The Yankees' offense had one of their best performances in a while on Thursday when they put up 12 runs in a win over the Rays. A couple Yankees gave a bit of credit to a pregame speech from Jazz Chisholm Jr. ahead of that game. Jazz then played a big role in last night's win over the Nationals, so it's been a nice couple days for him.
Netflix: Ben Rice's competition in the 2026 Home Run Derby is set for Monday night. Barring any late substitutions, he will face Junior Caminero of the Rays, Jac Caglianone of the Royals, Jordan Walker of the Cardinals, Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox, Willson Contreras of the Red Sox, and two host sluggers: Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper of the Phillies. Caminero and Schwarber were runners-up in the 2025 and 2018 events, respectively, while Harper was the winner in 2018, the last time he competed in one with the Nationals. Rice will be looking to become the fifth Yankee to win the event, alongside Tino Martinez (1997), Jason Giambi (2002), Robinson Canó (2011), and Aaron Judge (2017).
MLB.com: Another event this weekend is the MLB Draft, which is set to begin later today. If you want to feel old, the sons of Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia, Jose Contreras, and other famous names from around baseball will be among those available for selection in this year's Draft. And if you're curious about who the Yankees might take with their top pick (No. 35), check out Dan Kelly's article for us yesterday.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos did something that hasn't been done in Giants history since 1920.
San Francisco defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by a final score, 10-1, on Monday, July 6. However, player of the game nods went straight to Ramos after putting together a performance in which he cracked three home runs – a "little league" homer and then two real ones smacked into the stands.
It was a career night for Ramos. He became the first Giants player since 1920 to record two home runs and a "little league" home run in the same game.
"Just working a lot on my path, on the way that I was swinging to day in the cage and BP (batting practice)," Ramos told NBC Sports Bay Area in a post game broadcast interview. "I just felt pretty good about it honestly."
Maybe it was the breakfast he had, which Ramos said he cooked himself: sausages, eggs, toast and hash browns. His go-to. For what it's worth, he walked to grab a coffee.

None of the companies admitted wrongdoing but agreed to pay $3.3 million and donate 53 million eggs to settle the states' claims.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's highly anticipated wedding is reportedly becoming even more extravagant, with new details suggesting the celebration may look more like a royal affair than a traditional celebrity ceremony. As speculation surrounding the superstar couple's big day continues to grow, reports claim a massive castle is being constructed inside Madison Square Garden, transforming the iconic New York venue into a fairytale-inspired setting ahead of the rumored July 3 event.
According to TMZ, crews have been working around the clock preparing Madison Square Garden for what is expected to be one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings in recent memory. Construction teams were recently spotted unloading large scenic pieces outside the venue, with some of the equipment reportedly labeled "Garden Party 1 (Scenic)" and marked with the initials "GP."
The reported additions have fueled speculation that the venue is being transformed into an elaborate garden-themed wonderland complete with castle-inspired elements. If the reports are accurate, the setup would fit perfectly with the fairytale narrative that has surrounded Swift and Kelce's relationship since they first went public.
Swift's fans have long been known for decoding hidden messages and Easter eggs, and the reported "Garden Party" labeling has already sparked plenty of theories online.
Some believe the phrase could reference the couple's reported garden-themed engagement, while others have jokingly suggested it may be another clue pointing toward future music from the pop superstar.

Taylor Swift has a long history of hiding messages in plain sight, and Swifties are now convinced she telegraphed her surprise wedding entertainment lineup from a courtside seat at Madison Square Garden.

Jenny Mollen has revealed she went through a "harrowing" experience while taking a GLP-1 weight loss drug.
The episode left her then-husband Jason Biggs "screaming like it's a horror movie", she shared on the latest episode of the Let's Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa podcast.
"I was microdosing the GLPs. I was also taking other peptides," Mollen recalled of the June 2025 incident. But I think that something happens with your period. Maybe it's just the perimenopausal situation.
"Suddenly I was, like, hemorrhaging. It was blood clots the size of dinosaur eggs. It was so scary," she continued, adding that she "felt like I was laying an egg" when she went to the bathroom. "So I run to the bathroom and I am literally sitting on the toilet and I hear this plop and just blood everywhere."
When Biggs came to help, he joined in on the panic moment and started screaming too.
Mollen didn't immediately go to the hospital but, by that night, her condition had worsened and she knew she was losing too much blood.

Let’s be real for a second—remember when Aston Martin looked like absolute world-beaters back in 2023? Fernando Alonso was racking up podiums, the hype train was running at full steam, and it felt like the Silverstone squad had finally cracked the code. Fast forward to 2026, and that dream has turned into a bit of a nightmare. The team has been struggling massively under the new regulations, but Lance Stroll just dropped some heavy hints that the entire garage is holding its breath for one man to save the day.
According to a tweet from F1 commentator Nachez, which highlights a report from Shiga Sports **** an, Stroll made some incredibly telling comments while in Barcelona. It sounds like Aston Martin is throwing all their eggs into the Adrian Newey basket, and honestly, can you blame them?
We all know Newey is the absolute undisputed aerodynamic wizard of the F1 paddock, having won a ridiculous number of championships during his time at Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull. When he jumped ship to become Aston Martin’s technical boss for 2026, the expectations naturally skyrocketed.
Stroll didn’t hold back when talking about his new boss, bluntly stating, “Newey is the most successful person in F1 history. That’s why the entire team is eagerly awaiting this upgrade.”
It’s pretty rare to hear a driver admit so openly that the current car is basically just a high-speed waiting room for a specific engineer’s updates to arrive. But considering the AMR26 has been an absolute handful this season, it makes perfect sense that the garage is desperate for Newey to finally wave his magic wand.

Manchester United have had to overcome problem after problem as they look to add to their midfield ranks.
The signing of Ederson from Atalanta was negotiated swiftly enough, but since then, the Red Devils have not had as smooth a ride as INEOS would have liked.
Moves for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali fell through due to the costs involved, with the club currently focusing on landing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.
The Portugal international is keen to join and play alongside his idol, Bruno Fernandes, but the Hammers have proven to be a tough nut to crack.
Add Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid to the mix, and the 20-time English league champions cannot afford to put all their eggs in the same basket.

A live stream of a nesting pair of honey buzzards is offering a rare glimpse into one of the UK's most secretive birds of prey.
The birds, which have laid two eggs in Sussex woodland, are being filmed around the clock as they incubate them and prepare for the arrival of chicks.
Experts say it is the first time such detailed nesting behaviour has been captured for the species, which migrates from West Africa in May.
"It's phenomenal, it is such an intimate glimpse in to this secretive bird. We are already learning so much about their lives," said Ash Walmsley, who is leading the project.
Very little is known about the unusual species, which feeds on wasp larvae, as they are often misidentified.
