The Houston Comets unveiled their new logos Thursday ahead of their return to a WNBA court next season.
While not a one-to-one remake of the original Comets branding from the 1990s, the logos feature similar elements presented in a sleeker way.
The main logo features the letter H angled slightly upward, a basketball with comet tails forming the letter's crossbar and four-pointed stars located inside the letter. The secondary logo features that design inside a circle that says Houston Comets.
Word marks for "Houston" and "Comets" feature the same motifs of a basketball with a comet tails and four-pointed stars.
Basketballs with comet tails and stars inside the H were both key features of the original Comets logo.

MORRAL — Forget beating a rival in a Northwest Central Conference match. Elgin was just happy to be back on the volleyball court.
The Comets hadn't played a match in 12 days and just once in the last 18. Still, Elgin showed very little rust Thursday, Sept. 10, at Ridgedale, winning in three sets 25-19, 25-13, 25-21.
"They were ready to just get back on the court and not against each other," Elgin coach Caitlin Gracely said.
It was a scheduling quirk and not by design, she said, as a couple matches had to be moved to later in the season. Thus, they had a long layoff just days after the start of the 2026 season.
"I'm thankful for the break being in the beginning and not in the middle (of the season). That's the only thing I can be thankful for. I did not like that," Gracely said. "You can't give them a bunch of days off. You give them all the time off and they just mentally check out. We do not want that."

Sheehan has struggled for much of this season, but he excelled with the Oklahoma City Comets of Triple-A, earning PCL Pitcher of the Month as a result, as detailed by Aaron Coloma of Dodgers Nation and LA Sports Report.
Now back with the Dodgers, he's improved his personal record to 5-8 with 5.2 innings of work during which he struck out 10 batters, matching his career high.

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers swapped relievers in the bullpen on Saturday, activating Bobby Miller from the 60-day injured list with Kyle Hurt getting optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The timing of the move helps provide a lesson in timing and roster planning with just over three weeks remaining in the regular season.
The immediate need is available arms to cover Sunday and Monday's games. Sunday was an open spot in the rotation already on the nine-game homestand, and Monday opened up after Eric Lauer was placed on the injured list after his start last Tuesday. Justin Wrobleski, who pitched two innings on Tuesday, will be available for bulk innings on Sunday against the Nationals. Miller will be potentially available Sunday as well up to around 50 pitches if needed if he doesn't pitch on Saturday, manager Dave Roberts said Saturday.
Miller began the season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation, and also dealt with a back injury this season. During his rehab ***** ignment for Triple-A Oklahoma City, Miller put up a 3.86 ERA in seven games, with 17 strikeouts and four walks in 14 innings. His last two outings were exactly one inning, but his first five games with the Comets were between two and three innings, and ranged from 44-50 pitches.
"I feel like my stuff has played up a little bit better [in relief], but being in attack mode just all the time is really a mindset out there," Miller said Saturday. "Try to get ahead of every single hitter, not get in a ton of 3-2 counts, just try to get the hitter out as best you can."
Whether Miller is even an upgrade over Hurt is at least debatable, as at least one Dodgers reliever was surprised to see Hurt in street clothes with a travel bag packed walking out of the clubhouse on Saturday. But Miller is more likely than Hurt to provide length, and the fresh arm express isn't always fair.

FRIENDSVILLE — Abington Heights had a strong showing at the Ann Marie Simons Classic girls golf tournament Tuesday.
Senior Brianna Moffatt shot a 5-over-par 75 at Tall Pines Players Club to capture the individual ******* le by one stroke over Honesdale junior Marley Reynolds. Teammates Margot Grad and Liz George each shot 82 with Grad taking third place on a match of cards.
Their efforts gave the Lady Comets the team ******* le with a score of 239. Riverside was second with 267 and Elk Lake third with 272.
George wound up winning low-senior honors, while Molly Nietz of Abington Heights was low freshman with 101. North Pocono's Julia Biko was low junior with an 86 and Hannah LaRue from Elk Lake was low sophomore with an 87.
"Coming in I felt confident they were going to do well," Abington Heights coach Ed Bath said. "They've really progressed in their games, especially with the mental part of the game; their maturity with decision-making out on the golf course and playing the golf course as it's presented to them. Just in what I could see out there, I saw some good decisions being made as golfers and executing those decisions. They all kind of shot right around their averages thus far this year, which again is indicative to that good, mental approach to golf. I think they did a great job."

It's really something to see a true one-of-one. The first time it really stuck, it really happened to me, was Usain Bolt in 2008 in Beijing. With all due respect to what Michael Phelps did in those Olympics, there's something primal about the 100m dash, something we've been doing as a species since Urk bragged to Gru he could get to that rock over there first. It was quite something for 14-year-old Joshua to see the seven fastest men in the world three steps behind this freak — and I say that with the utmost admiration.
Of course Bolt did that two more times in those Games, then broke his own record at the World Championships in Berlin a year later—still the fastest time ever recorded—and then in London, and just for good measure took home the gold in the 100m and 200m in Rio in 2016. The greatest sprinter of all time and a 100th-percentile outcome for what the human body can be. Bolt went out with a whimper though, pulling up lame in the 4x100m relay final at the 2017 World Championships. A hamstring injury mid-race spelled the end of one of sports' great, fiery comets.
You almost never get to go out on your own terms, especially in athletics. Eventually, your body—the thing that earned you a living, the thing that elevated you over pretty much the entire global population—lets you down. Giancarlo Stanton is also a true one-of-one. You could make a compelling argument that ****** ody in the history of baseball has boasted his raw power. Perhaps ****** ody in the sport has ever had so many home runs where the defenders simply didn't move upon contact:
View Link
And of course, like A-Rod in 2009, there's a very good chance the Yankees don't even make the World Series in '24 if Stanton doesn't hammer the ball like he can. Cleveland in particular had no answer whatsoever to the ALCS MVP, who showered Guardians pitching with four clutch homers. He had a 1.048 OPS that postseason and likely walks away with 18 career playoff homers and a .926 OPS in 202 plate appearances.

As a kid growing up in Mason, Vignesh Gogineni started coming to the Cincinnati Open when he was 6 years old. He watched the professionals, then later served as a hitting partner at the tournament and competed at the Lindner Family Tennis Center as a member of the Mason Comets.
Now, Gogineni will make his ATP debut on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when he takes the court at the Cincinnati Open as a hometown wild card in qualifying. He enters the tournament ranked No. 975 in the ATP, just days removed from winning his first professional ******* le at the Edwardsville Futures tournament in Illinois, and will face Otto Virtanen (ATP No. 114) in the opener.
It's the latest and most surreal step in a tennis journey that only became a professional pursuit this year.

Lenni Hameenaho had quite the season for his first campaign in North America in 2025-26. Starting the season in the AHL with the Utica Comets, Hameenaho initially got off to a slow start with no points in his first nine games. He would come on strong after an that initial adjustment period to post 22 points in his next 25 games, earning himself a spot in the NHL for much of the remainder of the Devils' season. His 33 NHL appearances would see him post just eight points (two goals and six ***** ists) while mostly being used in the Bottom Six. The Devils would send Lenni back down for the final push for the Comets to make the postseason; while they came up just short, Hameenaho contibuted four points in those three games.
2025-26 was a good start for a 21 year old rookie; while you might be disappointed in his NHL point totals, keep in mind his deployment, He was typically playing on the fourth line with little to no time on special teams. He wasn't consistently put with teammates who could help him generate offense. He did make a number of mistakes as young players often do, but by the end of the season I would argue Hameenaho was a more complete player in game 33 in New Jersey than he was in game one. This upcoming season will be a good opportunity for him to take another step forward. The only question has to be where in the organization will that be?
For 2026-27, the Devils have added to their forward depth, so much so that if Hameenaho were to be on the NHL roster alongside everyone else listed on PuckPedia, he would be one of 14 forwards. While the Devils carried 14 forwards for a portion of last season, I don't think the argument could be made that all of them belonged at the NHL level. This season, while you could argue their role and deployment, each of the other 13 forwards is at least an NHL player. The Devils are trying to ensure future success, but also want to win now; if there's players better than Lenni, that means 12 other Devils will be on the ice nightly, and at the same time you don't want one of your better prospects sitting in the press box on a nightly or almost nightly basis. So is Hameenaho destined for a full season with Utica?
I think a lot of it is going to depend on how much he's learned from last season and what he has done this summer. If Lenni spent the offseason looking over game footage, furthering his understanding of Sheldon Keefe's system, adding muscle to his frame and continuing to improve his skills, then there's a chance he could leap over a number of the lower tier Devils forwards and work his way onto the opening night roster. If that were the case, then the Devils would probably have to send a goaltender or fringe forward down, but hey, would the Devils really be that much worse without one of Nico Daws/David Rittich or Jesper Boqvist/Nick Bjugstad?
Conversely, Hameenaho is still a very young player, as he will just be turning 22 shortly into the upcoming season. It wouldn't be a bad thing if the Devi

The Los Angeles Dodgers have two pitchers back on the mound who have been missing all year long — Gavin Stone and Bobby Miller.
Miller and Stone have not pitched competitively throughout the season, leaving them on the outskirts of the 40-man roster on the 60-day injured list.
However, they are both with the Oklahoma City Comets in Triple-A, emerging once again as the postseason nears.
Miller and Stone were grinding in Arizona at the Dodgers' complex, and now, they have made enough progress to join the Comets, according to Alex Freedman, broadcaster for the minor league affiliate.

It’s been an Iowa high school state baseball tournament to remember for North Polk.
The Comets went from playing a half inning before getting rained out Monday to playing extra innings and beating Western Dubuque in the 10th; the Comets left it all out on the field.
But on Wednesday, July 22, it came to an end. Dubuque Wahlert defeated North Polk, 3-2, with a walk-off single from Noah Krapfl, ending the Comets' chance at a state ******* le.
Errors plagued North Polk, and two of them in the first inning led to the game's first run and a 1-0 lead for Wahlert. Then a dropped third strike that led to a passed ball allowed Wahlert to grab a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning.
But just before it seemed North Polk used up everything it had over an emotional few days, the “Cardiac Comets” returned Wednesday evening to make things interesting. Trailing with just six outs to play with, North Polk tied things up in the sixth.

Without loads of individual brilliance, the player of the day pick was clear with a dominating outing in Single-A.
Will Gagnon was nearly untouchable for the Tower Buzzers, delivering his finest performance to this point, holding the Giants to just three hits on his way to winning the game with a season-high 10 punchouts.
Striking people out was never an issue for Gagnon this season, but limiting the opposition to no free passes came as a surprise, something he had not done since the middle of May.
Waiting until the eighth inning to score all three runs they would in this game certainly didn't help; nevertheless, the burden of remaining winless this season still falls on the shoulders of Jackson Ferris himself, allowing five runs, four of them earned, in a 7-3 defeat for the Comets.
It is not your day when your leadoff hitter, in this case Alek Thomas, strikes out three times. All the Comets' scoring came from the bat of Ryan Ward with a three-run shot in the eighth inning.

While the kickoff of the 2026 high school soccer season is still a month away, the Enquirer is getting preseason coverage rolling with looks at the top returning players across each position group.
The defensive anchors of every unit and the first group to feature are the goalies. Here are some key keepers to watch in 2026.
Be sure to vote for your favorite using the ballot at the end of the story. You can vote once an hour until 4 p.m. Friday.
In his junior campaign, Carter tallied 147 saves with nine shutouts, allowing just 19 goals through 20 games. His three saves in a shootout win over Loveland in the district semifinals were instrumental to the Wildcats claiming a district championship, and he earned a spot on the Enquirer's all-city first team.
As a sophomore, Darling secured 10.5 shutouts in goal for Mason. The Comets allowed just nine goals all season en route to a 14-1-3 record, and Darling's skills will only improve in his junior season.

Dodgers closer Edwin Díaz officially started a minor league rehab ****** ignment on Saturday night, tossing a scoreless inning for Class-A Ontario with two strikeouts and a single allowed.
Díaz needed only 11 pitches, eight of them for strikes in his first game action in 83 days. Making his way back from arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow, Díaz is expected back at some point shortly after the All-Star break. After his outing, Díaz told reporters in Ontario he might need three more rehab games before being ready for return.
Tyler Gough walked four but also struck out five in his three scoreless innings for Great Lakes.
The 22-year-old right-hander, who was acquired from the Mariners for left-hander Robinson Ortiz on November 16, has pitched 13 scoreless innings since joining Great Lakes. After missing nearly two months on the injured list, Gough between Ontario and Great Lakes has a 0.81 ERA in eight starts and 33 1/3 innings, with 39 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Rain washed away Oklahoma City's Saturday game against the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres), which served as a blessing for the Comets.

All four Dodgers affiliates are at home this week. The two in the state of Oklahoma picked up wins on Friday.
Ryan Ward homered in his first game back with Oklahoma City on June 30 after getting optioned, but had no extra-base hits in his first seven games of July. Ward made up for that on Friday with a home run and two doubles.
Ward also singled, tying his season best with four hits.
The Comets had eight extra-base hits in a home romp over the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres). Ward had three of the eight extra-base hits.
Alek Thomas also homered, his third in three games. Jack Suwinski doubled twice and drove in four runs Austin Gauthier and Ryan Fitzgerald also doubled.

UNCASVILLE, CT — Cheryl Reeve stands alone at the top of the list for most regular-season wins as a WNBA head coach.
On Wednesday, July 8, Reeve set the league record with her 380th victory when her Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun, 86-80, at Mohegan Sun Arena. Reeve surpassed longtime Sun coach Mike Thibault's record of 379. It has stood since 2022.
Reeve's latest milestone comes after she tallied her 414th victory (regular-season and postseason) on Sept. 14, 2025, becoming the all-time winningest WNBA coach for combined wins, surpassing Thibault (413).
It also comes after she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on June 27 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reeve is the second WNBA coach to be inducted, joining former Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor, inducted in 2001.
"(I appreciate) the magnitude of this recognition of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the great work that has gone into this institution," Reeve said during her induction ceremony. "To walk around and see the history of how much has been done years before I could ever have this opportunity to coach."

Thirteen months and two days after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips was activated off the 60-day injured list on Monday by the Dodgers ahead of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
Phillips had an extensive rehab ****** ignment, appearing in 12 games over 30 days with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander had a 1.80 ERA with 13 strikeouts and five walks in 10 innings for the Comets, with his last game coming last Friday, a perfect frame with two strikeouts against Sugar Land. This was essentially spring training for Phillips, who pitched on back-to-back days on June 24-25, and appeared in parts of two innings on June 28, usual items on the checklist for relief pitchers building up for their season.
The right elbow procedure for Phillips was June 4, 2025, ending a season that was already hampered at the start by a shoulder injury, limiting the right-hander to only seven games last year.
Jake Eder, who was on the minor league injured list in Oklahoma City, was released to make room on the 40-man roster for Phillips. Paul Gervase was optioned to Triple-A to open the active roster spot. Gervase pitched in two of the four games for which he was active on this stint in the majors. Eder, acquired from the Washington Nationals on April 1, piched in four games for the Dodgers and allowed a run on three hits in four innings, with one strikeout and one walk.
Also on Monday, the Dodgers added pitcher Carlos Durán to the 40-man roster and designated catcher Chuckie Robinson for ****** ignment.

Jun. 28—YANKTON — Palace City 14-and-under baseball finished 1-2 in three games at the Bob Tereshinski Tournament at Riverside Park for the weekend.
Palace City won 3-1 over Vermillion Red on Friday but dropped a 7-1 decision to the Rapid City Post 320 Comets and then fell 5-4 to the Yankton Lakers in the finale on Saturday. All tournament games were six innings.
Palace City topped Vermillion Red on Friday, powered by a strong outing on the mound from Deyton Puetz, who threw six innings and allowed four hits, an unearned run and struck out four batters. At the plate, Preston Maeschen and Keniel Padilla each had two hits and Puetz added an RBI as Palace City outhit Vermillion 6-4, overcoming four errors.
On Saturday against the Comets, Palace City only mustered one hit, which came from Maeschen. Carter Buschbach had the lone RBI in the fourth inning, scoring Maeschen, who took the loss on the mound and threw all six innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs (three earned) and striking out two.
Against Yankton, Palace City led 4-0 after two innings but the hosts had a walk-off victory, capped with three runs in the sixth. Maeschen had three hits and two runs scored, and Padilla had two hits and three RBIs. Puetz, Meade Schlimgen and Gavin Auch each had two hits. Padilla took the loss for Palace City, allowing 13 hits, five runs and striking out seven without a walk in 5 2/3 innings.

The Indiana Fever are not playing to their potential right now, and the team's frontcourt issues are a big reason as to why.
Outside of superstar forward Aliyah Boston and standout free agent forward Myisha Hines-Allen, the team just doesn't have many impact players factoring in to the regular rotations. Is there anything Indiana can do to fix that?
Outside of improvement from forwards Monique Billings and Makayla Timpson or impacts from 2026 rookie forwards like Grace VanSlooten and Justine ****** ott, the Fever can't do much in-house. The team would have to look outside of Indiana to find some help. Luckily for the Fever, there are options available via trade and free agency.
Let's break down who they are and why they would make sense for an Indiana team that needs some help.
The Sun (Comets) look like they're trying to win the JuJu Watkins sweepstakes at this point in time for the move to Houston. That could inspire Connecticut to make a deal or two if the losses keep piling up. Nelson-Ododa had played in Stephanie White's system from the latter's time with the Sun; she's the kind of defensive threat that Indiana is sorely lacking right now. Her $735k cap hit would be a lot, but perhaps Indiana could unload Billings' contract in a trade to even out the fiscal impact and throw in a good draft pick for Connecticut to facilitate a deal. Bailing on Billings so early might seem like an overreaction, but the Fever desperately need the defensive help if contending for a ****** le is even vaguely in the cards. Adding Nelson-Ododa would be a big swing to help fix that.

Three separate starting pitchers struggled heavily in a disappointing day across the Dodgers’ minor league system, particularly in the higher levels.
While it wasn’t enough for the win, Zach Ehrhard did his part and then some, recording two home runs and four RBI in what has been an absurd month of June for the twenty-three-year-old.
Ehrhard is batting .345 with eight homers since the start of the month, securing nearly as many walks (12) as he has strikeouts (14), scoring 17 runs, and driving in 18.
River Ryan dug too big a hole for the Comets to dig themselves out of as the right-hander allowed eight runs in 4.1 innings of work against the River Cats in a 9-6 loss. The deficit could’ve even been larger, but the River Cats left 13 on base against just five from the Comets, whose offense didn’t have a lot going on besides Zach Ehrhard.
The Comets’ leadoff hitter managed his third multi-homer game this month, going deep in both the third and seventh innings to reach 11 homers on the season. Unfortunately, the two hitters behind him, James Tibbs III and Jack Suwinski, didn’t reach base once, combining to strike out five times. The only other standout hitter for the Comets in the game was catcher Eliezer Alfonso, accumulating three hits, all of them doubles.

All seven of the San Francisco Giants Minor League Baseball affiliates were in action on Tuesday. Here’s what happened!
Link to the 2026 McCovey Chronicles Community Prospect List (CPL)
All listed positions in the roundup are the position played in that particular game.
Sacramento River Cats beat the Oklahoma City Comets (Dodgers) 10-1
Box score
RHP Tyler Mahle began his rehab ****** ignment on Tuesday, a few days later than planned (Mahle was supposed to begin his rehab on Sunday, but that game was rained out, and Monday was an off-day). Rehab ****** ignments are all about ramping up and feeling healthy, so we’ll try to overlook the fact that Mahle was not very sharp. He only threw 33 of 63 pitches for strikes, while walking 5 batters in just 3 innings. He wasn’t particularly hittable, admittedly, as he only gave up 1 hit and 1 run, with 3 strikeouts, but still not the most encouraging outing. With RHP Trevor McDonald (No. 12 CPL) struggling, and Mahle being a player who could be moved at the deadline, it seems likely that he’ll be back in the MLB rotation soon.

One rehab **** ignment ended on Sunday, another continued in Class-A, and Tulsa came two runs shy of tying a franchise record.
Josue De Paula reached base five times for Tulsa, including two singles, two walks, and a solo home run.
De Paula, who also stole his 19th base of the season, already has a career-high with 33 extra-base hits this year despite playing in only 60 games so far. He’s followed up his Texas League player of the month honors in May by hitting .373/.467/.647 in the first two weeks of June.
Three runs in the fifth inning spoiled the Comets’ interleague series finale in a road loss to the Charlotte Knights (White Sox). Jackson Ferris struck out six in his 4 1/3 innings, but those three runs in the fifth gave him four runs (three earned) allowed in the game to suffer the loss.
James Tibbs III doubled and drove in two of Oklahoma City’s three runs.

Oklahoma City Comets 6, Charlotte Knights 3
The Knights (35-29) managed to jump out to a 3-0 lead, then watched it all go up in smoke as Oklahoma City stormed back for the win.
Charlotte struck first in the second inning, manufacturing a run without the benefit of a hit after Ryan Galanie led off with a double, Dru Baker moved him over on a ground out, before Josh Breaux lifted a sac fly to center. Textbook small ball.
The Knights added to their lead in the third thanks to back-to-back jacks by Jason Matthews and Everson Pereira to put Charlotte ahead 3-0.
Shane Murphy coasted for four, then with two outs in the fifth, a single, then boom — a two-run shot. The lead shrank to 3-2. Next inning, another solo homer, and just like that, all square. Murphy at least made it through six, three earned, so he gets the ‘quality start’ badge. Unfortunately, it didn’t matter.
Enter Duncan Davitt for the seventh, and the Comets pounced for three runs, making it 6-3, claiming their first lead of the night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded left-handed pitcher Antoine Kelly to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations Saturday.
Kelly signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers following their seven-game World Series triumph, but didn’t get his shot in the big leagues with LA. He made 23 appearances in Triple-A before his trade, and posted a 5.14 ERA in a hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Through 21 innings pitched, Kelly allowed 12 earned runs, two homers and struck out 22 batters.
Kelly came with the Dodgers to spring training as a non-roster invitee, and had a strong spring despite not making the team out of camp. He threw for the Dodgers 10 times in the Cactus League, striking out 13 batters through 9.2 innings pitched.
The biggest issue for Kelly, both in spring training and in the minors this season, has been his control. Kelly issued 19 walks in his 21 innings with the Oklahoma City Comets, and had six during his 9.2 spring training innings.

Catching up on Friday highlights in the Dodgers minor leagues, and a pair of major leaguers tackling third base this week in Triple-A.
Tulsa third baseman Jake Gelof homered twice and doubled on Friday night, part of his three-hit, three-run, three-RBI night.
Gelof has driven in runs in seven straight games.
The Comets rallied late after falling behind 5-0 early, but it wasn’t enough in a loss to the Round Rock Express (Rangers).
James Tibbs III walked twice and hit a two-run home run, his league-leading 18th of the season, and played his third straight game at first base after four weeks of being limited to designated hitter duties. Tibbs has seven home runs in his last 10 games.
