Dolly Parton never recovered from the death of her husband, Carl Dean, a friend tells In Touch exclusively.
"It was a bad time for her," Jason Pirro, who worked as the country icon's driver for 58 years, says of Dean's March 2025 death at 82 following an Alzheimer's diagnosis.
"She didn't say much, but she sometimes talked about how much she missed him so much. She didn't want to make a big deal about it because she knew that I knew how she was affected by it," says Pirro, 80, noting that the pair often traveled between their homes in LA and Tennessee to spend time with each other until he got sick.
Over their 60-year love story, they "shared a unique happiness that seemed to sparkle whenever they were together," he adds.
"I think that's why she passed away so soon after he did," Pirro tells In Touch. "She died of a broken heart, but she didn't want to say that because she didn't want people feeling sorry for her."

Olivia Oras, a popular Finnish social media influencer, died aged 27 after losing consciousness under anesthesia before a scheduled liposuction procedure at a private clinic in Helsinki. Olivia's death is currently being investigated by police as aggravated manslaughter.
The incident occurred on September 3rd. The police received a notification requesting an investigation on September 6th.

ZURICH, Sept 10 (Reuters) - A major shareholder in Novartis has called for a shake-up of the Swiss drugmaker's board to improve corporate governance after its shares suffered a record fall this week following back-to-back trial setbacks.
David Samra, managing director at top 20 investor Artisan Partners and founding partner of International Value Group, said the board needed to strengthen its oversight of acquisitions, calling for action from board chairman Giovanni Caforio.
"I think he needs to make changes at the board level. One of them should be on improving the team that's doing these deals because clearly they have been uninspiring at best," Samra told Reuters in an interview.
"I think that the board needs to improve their oversight of acquisitions... they need to bring in better talent on the board to do that and have an acquisition committee."

Keely Hodgkinson made serene progress into the 800m final at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in her first race back since taking silver at last month's European Championships.
The 24-year-old skipped the final rounds of the Diamond League and the Final in Brussels last week due to discomfort in her hamstring but looked relaxed and comfortable as she clocked the quickest time of the two semi-finals, 1:57.57.
As usual Hodgkinson led from the front before winding things up in the closing 200m, finishing well clear of American Addison Wiley in 1:58.14 and Australia's Sarah Billings, who clocked 1:58.37.
There was drama as Veronica Vancardo was accidentally brought down by Eloisa Coiro as the Italian attempted to edge past on the inside in the closing straight, with Hodgkinson and the other runners going to console the Swiss athlete, who appeared badly hurt. Officials later advanced her to the final after reviewing the footage and deeming she was tripped.
Hodgkinson told BBC Sport: ""I'm happy with that, I'm glad to be back running. It was a lot of fun. It's been a month since I last raced so it's nice to get that run out through the legs, hopefully go a bit better tomorrow."

The Tennessee ***** ans will still commemorate halftime of Sunday's season opener to "CJ2K," but the team announced Friday that it's postponing Chris Johnson's Ring of Honor induction ceremony.
Because of "unforeseen circumstances," Johnson and his family are no longer able to travel to Nashville for the Week 1 game between the ***** ans and the New York Jets, the ***** ans said in a statement.
Johnson is battling ALS, a diagnosis he revealed in June.
"Knowing how much he and his family desire to be in person at Nissan Stadium for his induction into the ***** ans Ring of Honor, we will postpone the official induction ceremony and look forward to celebrating the moment with them at a future date," the statement continues.
"Sunday's halftime ceremony will remain dedicated to celebrating Chris' incredible on-field achievements and legacy with our team. Our thoughts, along with those of ***** ans fans everywhere, continue to be with Chris and his wife, Brittany."

The lineups are out for tonight's series-opening showdown between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. There's no major shakeup but there is a return to the lineup for one familiar face after he started Thursday's contest on the bench.

Ozzie has hit .249/.304/.411 so far this season with a wOBA of .311 and a wRC+ of 95. His big triple against the Rays on Thursday helped push Atlanta past Tampa Bay and gave them what could amount to being a very crucial win if all continues to go well for the Braves as far as this particular series is concerned.
Outside of that, there are no major changes from yesterday and in fact, this is the same group of nine batters that squared off against Aaron Nola last week. The bottom of the order is slightly different but the players remain the same. For what it's worth, Ronald Acuña Jr. has an OPS of 1.076 against Nola in 56 pat-bats. Austin Riley has done a similar level of damage as well with an OPS of 1.111 over 62 ABs. Mike Yastrzemski and Drake Baldwin have both been successful as well (1.046 and 1.056 OPS, respectively) against Nola but they both have much smaller sample sizes (16 and 8 ABs, respectively) to go with. The price change comes while Hilton continues receiving medical and mental health care following a serious crisis at his Miami home in August. His family said in its most recent authorized health update that he remained hospitalized in an inpatient setting, while Page Six reported on September 11 that he was still hospitalized.
Hilton's decision to sell the Las Vegas property predates that hospitalization. He announced his move to Miami in June after about three and a half years in Nevada, saying he wanted to be closer to relatives and believed the change was right for his three children and his mother.
Hilton's home spans about 7,000 square feet in Prado, a gated community with fewer than 20 residences. The property sits on a corner lot roughly between the Las Vegas Strip and Summerlin.
