Americans Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Kenny Bednarek won the 100m at the first World Athletics Ultimate Championship, the biggest track and field meet of 2026.
Jefferson-Wooden clocked 10.62 seconds, one hundredth off her personal best from winning the 2025 World ****** le. Julien Alfred, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, was runner-up in 10.74, followed by 2024 Olympic silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson in 10.76.
Jefferson-Wooden, who has one 100m defeat since taking bronze at the Paris Games, is the fourth-fastest woman in history behind American Florence Griffith Joyner (world record 10.49) and Jamaicans Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.54) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.60).
Bednarek, a two-time Olympic 200m silver medalist, earned the biggest individual race win of his career. He ran 9.85, beating 2025 World champion Oblique Seville of Jamaica by five hundredths. Bednarek is also running Sunday in the 200, an event where's the world's fastest man this year.

D4vd's murder case has just been hit with a new wrinkle, as a trio of lawyers have confirmed they will no longer represent the Withered artist.
Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter confirmed their exit in a statement shared with Complex on Monday (Aug. 31).
"This morning the court granted our request to withdraw as counsel and appoint the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, after it was determined David [Burke, a.k.a. D4vd] qualified for appointed counsel," reads the statement. "We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges. We are grateful that the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office has taken over the representation and that David has a highly capable and committed team of attorneys and investigators behind him."
In their coverage, TMZ speculated that financial problems may have led to this surprising shakeup.

D4vd has replaced the three prominent private attorneys who had been defending him as his murder case moves toward trial, with the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office now taking over his representation.
The 21-year-old singer, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Aug. 31. Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter were permitted to withdraw, while Deputy Public Defender Walid Kandeel stepped in to represent Burke.
Burke then entered not guilty pleas to three charges stemming from the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez: murder with special-circumstance allegations, continuous ***** ual abuse of a child under 14 and unlawful mutilation of human remains. The hearing followed a July preliminary proceeding in which Judge Charlaine Olmedo found sufficient evidence for the case to proceed toward trial.
The next status conference is set for Oct. 19, and no trial date has been scheduled. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman also said prosecutors still have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Berk told the court that Burke wanted new representation, and his former attorneys later said the judge granted their request to withdraw after Burke was determined to qualify for appointed counsel, according to Reuters.

Texas football standouts Rasheem Biles and Colin Simmons have wracked up preseason accolades throughout the preseason, and most recently, that includes both players being named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the award's committee announced this week. It's the second consecutive season that Biles, a senior who joined Texas after transferring out of Pittsburgh's program earlier this offseason, and Simmons, a junior, that made the cut for the award's preseason watch list honor.

Star Illini defensive back Matthew Bailey has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Chuck Bednarik Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Friday.
Bailey is one of 91 players under consideration for the award, which goes to the best defensive player in college football. He is also one of 19 Big Ten players on this year's watch list.
A team captain and two-time All-Big Ten selection, Bailey enters his senior season after leading Illinois in total tackles in each of the past two years. He recorded 76 tackles in 2025 after posting a career-high 94 tackles in 2024. Last season, he also set career bests with 59 solo tackles and four tackles for loss.
Bailey earned AP All-Bowl Team honors following Illinois' Citrus Bowl victory over No. 14 South Carolina, tying an Illinois bowl record with 14 tackles. He also ranks among the conference's top tacklers, finishing 14th in the Big Ten with 6.8 tackles per game in 2024.
The Bednarik Award has been presented annually since 1994. Named for College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik, the award recognizes the nation's top defensive player.

The announcements of Tigers finding their way on to watch lists continued on Friday. Princewill Umanmielen, Whit Weeks, and DJ Pickett were each named to the Bednarik Award preseason watch list.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is given annually to college football's best defensive player. The honor is presented by the Maxwell Football Club, the same club that bestows the Maxwell Award to the top overall college football player. Both are two of the most distinguished honors in the sport.
Named after Chuck Bednarik, a former All-American at the University of Pennsylvania and Pro Football Hall of Famer, the award is chosen by a wide variety of voters including NCAA head coaches, sports writers, sports casters, and the members of the Maxwell Football Club. It was established in 1995 and was won most recently by linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech.
Only two players in LSU's program history have earned the honor and they came in back-to-back years. Patrick Peterson won it in 2010, followed by Tyrann Mathieu in 2011.
Princewill Umanmielen came over with Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss and is poised to give Blake Baker a legitimate pass rusher, which they were missing a year ago. The senior defensive end was #3 in the SEC in 2025 with 9.0 sacks. The last time LSU had a player record at least 9.0 sacks was 10 years ago when Arden Key set the program's single-season record with 12.0. Umanmielen is also a force against rushing attacks, finishing #8 in the conference with 13.0 tackles for loss. He was a Third-Team All-SEC selection last year and has already been named to the Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team.

Revealed on Friday afternoon, a trio of Alabama Crimson Tide players have been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Chuck Bednarik Award.
Each of those three are returning starters on the Crimson Tide's defense, two of which are defensive backs in senior safety Bray Hubbard and junior cornerback Zabien Brown. Yhonzae Pierre, a senior outside linebacker, was also part of the preseason watch list.
The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player in college football. Alabama has seen three players receive the honor previously in Jonathan Allen (2016), Minkah Fitzpatrick (2017), and most recently, Will Anderson Jr. (2022).
Of the three, Hubbard is Alabama's top returning tackler from a year ago with 79 total, with the safety leading the SEC with four interceptions. Brown, who recorded 39 tackles, led college football with two interceptions returned for a touchdown, while Pierre was Alabama's sack and TFL leader a year ago with eight and 14.5, respectively.

The Yankees (71-55) and the Orioles (61-66) conclude their three-game AL East series tonight at Camden Yards. With wins in the first two games, New York has pulled to within five games of first-place Tampa Bay in the AL East. Baltimore opened the series sitting in the final Wild Card spot but now are 1.5 games behind the Twins for a postseason berth.
Last night the Yankees won, 5-3. Along the way, they may have gotten a little help from the umpires. More on that in a moment. The Orioles struck first in unusual fashion in the bottom of the first. Jackson Holliday stole home to give Baltimore an early 1-0 lead. New York answered quickly. In the second inning, Ryan McMahon delivered an RBI single that scored Jazz Chisholm Jr., tying the game before being thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Moments later, George Lombard Jr. hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Spencer Jones to give the Yankees a 2-1 advantage. The Yankees extended the lead in the third when Ben Rice launched a 447-foot solo homer to right-center field, his 34th home run of the season. Baltimore responded immediately as Pete Alonso crushed a 423-foot homer of his own in the bottom half, trimming the deficit to 3-2. The game remained close into the sixth inning when Orioles outfielder Dylan Beavers tied the score at 3-3 with a solo homer to left-center.
The pivotal and controversial moment arrived in the seventh. Alonso thought he had given Baltimore the lead with a deep drive down the left-field line. The ball clearly looked to tuck inside the foul pole but was ruled foul...even after review. Instead of taking a 4-3 lead, the Orioles remained tied, and the Yankees took advantage in the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, New York loaded the bases and grabbed the lead when Lombard Jr. beat out an infield single, scoring Heliot Ramos. Moments later, Orioles reliever Yennier Cano uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score an insurance run and give the Yankees a 5-3 advantage. The Yankees bullpen closed the door from there. Brent Headrick earned the victory with a scoreless seventh, while David Bednar recorded his 29th save with a clean ninth inning.
Tonight's pitching matchup features a couple of veteran righthanders in Gerrit Cole (6-6, 3.22 ERA) and Kyle Bradish (7-11, 3.65 ERA). After missing last season and the first couple of months this season following Tommy John surgery, Cole has been an ace over his last four starts allowing a mere four earned runs across 24.2 innings. As good as he has been, the Yankees' bats have rarely supported him, though, as New York has lost four of his last seven starts. Bradish has also been stingy over the past couple of months. The righthander has allowed two or fewer earned runs in his last three starts and in five of his last six outings. The O's have won four of his last six starts.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Pete Alonso's drive down the left-field line in the seventh inning was ruled foul, and the New York Yankees took advantage of that reprieve, scoring twice in the top of the eighth to beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 on Wednesday night.
Alonso, who had already homered in the third, nearly went deep again with the score tied at 3. His fly to left was initially called foul. One replay seemed to show the ball on the fair side of the pole, but it wasn't clear what angle it was shot from.
After a review, the call stood and Alonso ended up striking out.
The following inning, Cam Sanders (1-1) loaded the bases with a walk and two hit batters. Yennier Cano came on with two outs, and George Lombard Jr. hit a slow roller for an infield single to put New York ahead. Then a wild pitch made it 5-3.
Brent Headrick (7-2) won in relief. David Bednar worked the ninth for his 29th save in 32 chances.

Brent Headrick and Fernando Cruz got through the seventh, Paul Blackburn completed the eighth and David Bednar worked a perfect ninth for his 28th save in New York's second straight win.
Orioles right-hander Shane Baz (4-13) struck out a season-high 10 in 6 1/3 innings but was charged with all three New York runs after he departed with two men on.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ryan McMahon and Trent Grisham each hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to send the New York Yankees past the slumping Seattle Mariners 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Ryan Weathers carried a one-hit shutout into the sixth and Luis García Jr. sparked the decisive rally with his second double of the night for New York, which leads the American League wild-card race.
Randy Arozarena homered in the sixth for the fading Mariners (56-64), who have lost five in a row and 14 of 19 to fall a season-worst eight games under .500. Seattle, which opened a nine-game trip against three teams currently in playoff position, has mustered only five runs during the losing streak and nine in the past seven games.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. sent García to third with a single in the seventh, and rookie Spencer Jones drew a one-out walk. McMahon gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead with a bases-loaded single off reliever Michael Rucker (0-4), and Grisham added his two-run single off Eduard Bazardo.

It's trade deadline season, and though this has been a tame deadline period so far, the continuous swirl of rumors and (eventually) actual transactions will be the focus of much of the baseball world in the coming days. Yesterday, we discussed which players the Yankees were most likely to move, and today, we ask: what weakness do the Yankees most need to address, and which one are they most likely to address?
The answer to this question has been fluid throughout the year. Early on, it seemed obvious to most that the Yankees would need to make big additions to their bullpen, yet here we are at the end of July, and the Yankee relief corps has the second-best ERA in the majors. Paul Blackburn has proven to be the second coming of Luke Weaver, Brent Headrick almost never allows runs, David Bednar has been the top-tier closer the team envisioned, and Matt Blake's latest reclamation project, Angel Chivilli, has looked dynamite since his most recent call-up. Add in the fact that players like Will Warren and Ryan Weathers (and perhaps Carlos Lagrange?) could get shifted to the bullpen if they're not traded, and the unit looks like an area of strength, not weakness.
At other times, the matter of the infield appeared to be most pressing. Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each got off to nightmarish starts, and the shortstop duo of Anthony Volpe and José Caballero has had its ups and downs. But even on the dirt, things don't look nearly as shaky as they did two or three months ago. Since seeing his OPS bottom out at .498 on April 22nd, Chisholm has played exactly as expected, with a .239/.309/.463 slash line and 16 homers plus 21 steals. McMahon has run a roughly .750 OPS over the last two months while bringing his usual quality defense at third base. And despite his penchant for high-profile miscues, Volpe's combination of high-OBP and good range at short has made him a valuable contributor.
Then, there's the most obvious need now, at catcher, with Yankee backstops having combined to "hit" .181/.261/.284. But even adding a catcher comes with major complications, as most teams are loath to make significant changes to their caching room midseason. For as awful as Austin Wells and Co. have been with the bat this year, a catcher's primary job is to catch, to field his position, to manage his pitching staff. The Yankee backstops have done that portion of their job with aplomb this year (it's probably not a coincidence that the Yankees prioritize defense at catcher and have the best team ERA in baseball), and it's not trivial to just add a plus bat to that room without shaking things up on the run-prevention front.
Add it all up, and it leaves the Yankee roster in a weird spot heading into a crucial deadline. The roster has been slammed by injuries and has some seemingly clear places to upgrade, but actually making those upgrades is less straightforward than it might appear. What do you think? The Yankees (61-46) look to make it three straight over the White Sox (55-51) tonight at Rate Field following last night's 3-2 win.
Last night was a tightly contested pitching duel that saw the Yankees build an early lead and then survive a late White Sox rally. New York scored all three of its runs in the second inning against White Sox starter Anthony Kay. The rally began when Jasson Domínguez singled and Trent Grisham followed with a hit. Anthony Volpe then drilled an RBI double to deep center field, scoring Domínguez. Two batters later, Max Schuemann delivered the biggest hit of the game, a two-run double that plated both Grisham and Volpe for a 3-0 Yankees lead. The story for most of the evening, though, was Gerrit Cole, who looked dominant in his sixth start since returning from Tommy John surgery. Cole worked six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven and walking two. Chicago struggled to generate offense until the ninth inning. Yankees closer David Bednar entered looking for his 22nd save, but Braden Montgomery singled and Chase Meidroth followed with a dramatic two-run homer to left field, trimming the deficit to 3-2. Bednar regrouped, however, striking out former Yankee Everson Pereira to end the game and secure the save.
The Yankees have now won five of their last six games and are within 1½ games of first-place Tampa Bay in the AL East, while the White Sox remain atop the AL Central despite dropping four of their last five.
It seemed like the Sox were facing the ace of the Yankees' staff last night but tonight Chicago must face New York's current ace, Cam Schlittler (10-6, 2-07 ERA). His most recent start came on July 24 against the Phillies. He threw 7.1 shutout innings allowing just three hits while striking out 12. The White Sox will send Davis Martin (9-5, 3.49 ERA) to the **** p. The right-hander has had a breakthrough season but has been inconsistent of late allowing 12 earned runs over his last 18 innings.

The Bombers' first two trips to the bat rack couldn't have progressed more differently. In the first, Anthony Kay struck out the side to make quick work of the top of the order. In the second, the first two batters Kay faced reached with well-struck singles, giving Anthony Volpe an RBI opportunity. Volpe charged a ball deep to left center where Tristan Peters nearly tracked it down at the wall. But Peters was unable to come down with the catch, the ball stayed in play, and Jasson Domínguez scored for an early 1-0 lead.

Once again on Monday night, New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe came under immense scrutiny regarding his defensive miscue. However, the Chicago White Sox failed to make a comeback out of it.
In the ninth inning with one out remaining and the Yankees leading by five runs, Volpe dropped a routine fly ball off Colson Montgomery. As a result, White Sox's leading runner, Sam Antonacci, came around to score as the game continued. Yankees reliever Camilo Doval was taken out of the game, and David Bednar had to walk in to get the final out. In the end, the Yankees won 9-5.
Despite Volpe's error not impacting the result of the game significantly, the Yankees shortstop received harsh treatment from fans.
"The never ending proof of why he should be nowhere near the majors. HE IS NOT FIT FOR THIS LEVEL OF BALL Yankees!!!" one fan wrote. "Can somebody, ANYBODY, send him down for good or trade him already?!?!? What's it gonna take?!?!?"
"He had no business trying to catch that. Jazz [Chisholm Jr.] should've been there or an outfielder. This is ridiculous," another added.

Noah Lyles ran a world-leading 9.79 seconds as he claimed an impressive victory in the 100m at the US athletics championships.
He also equalled his personal best, which he set in winning gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, with the run at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.
The previous best 100m in 2026 was the 9.82 set by Jamaica's Oblique Seville in June.
"I think I made that 'I'm still the world's fastest man' statement," said Lyles.
The 29-year-old American finished ahead of Ronnie Baker in second and third-placed Kenny Bednarek, who were both given a time of 9.88s, while former world champion Christian Coleman was fourth in 9.93.

NEW YORK (AP) — Sha'Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles cruised through their first-round races of the 100 meters on Thursday at the U.S. track championships.
Richardson had the top time of 10.90 seconds in the women's race. That was despite taking an extra moment in the starting block to make sure she didn't false start and shutting it down early to conserve energy. Richardson is a big favorite to win with reigning 100-meter world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden skipping the event to focus on the 200.
The semifinals and final will be held Friday at Icahn Stadium.
Lyles, the reigning Olympic champion, started slow — just like Richardson — but quickly powered up to full speed. He finished in 9.97 seconds to edge Ronnie Baker in the second heat. The top time was turned in by Christian Coleman, who went 9.96 in the first heat. Kenny Bednarek, a two-time Olympic silver medalist in the 200, won his heat as well.
Bednarek and Lyles were involved in a shoving and shouting match at U.S. championships last summer as they crossed the finish line of a hotly contested 200-meter final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The Colorado Eagles are going to look very different this upcoming season. With 11 free agents choosing to move on from the club, it was important that the Colorado Avalanche start investing in its youth. The Avs extending Taylor Makar's contract for two additional years is one way that they can show it. His extension was not because he shares the same last name as his older brother Cale; it is because he earned it. Taylor still has more to achieve and he might have a breakout season this upcoming year.
Last season, in Makar's first full season in the pros, he did a lot better than expected. He was used in every role from the penalty kill to the power play. His 14 goals and 10 **** ists led all rookies on the Eagles. His ability to adapt during games became his greatest **** et. Makar would find the weakness on the edge of the defense and go on the rush for an opportunity. It usually led to the Eagles getting a scoring chance or starting pressure in the zone. The biggest problem that the Maine Black Bear had was taking penalties. Makar had 56 penalty minutes in 52 games in the AHL. Most of them were at the worst time of the game for the Eagles. Now former head coach Mark Letestu mentioned it was Makar's one weakness. That he needed to learn to control his stick and his massive size.
Makar impressed the Avalanche with a call-up last season and played in 12 NHL games. So much so that he is one player named by Jared Bednar who will get ample chances this upcoming season. Makar showed drastic improvement during his opportunity with the Avalanche, coming very close to a goal frequently. Makar's learning experience in the AHL and the NHL will come in handy this coming season. He will be less hesitant, allowing his play to be more of a second nature. Chances are very high that the power forward could see top-six minutes while playing in Loveland and hopefully increased minutes on the bottom-six in Denver. If we put these factors together, Makar could see his first point in an Avalanche sweater and his first 20-goal season in his career.
Taylor has done a lot to distance himself in the way he plays his game from the way Cale does. Fans should not hold him to the same expectations as they do his older brother. I think Taylor could morph into a long-lasting bottom-six forward that can kill penalties and hit the offense off the puck. He may not take the same path as Cale did, but they will end up on the same bench once again this season.

We're still waiting for the New Orleans Saints to regroup for training camp, which means it's time to check in on the latest mock drafts and highlight some names to know in the 2027 NFL Draft class. Today's pick comes from Paul M. Banks over at Draft Wire, who has the Saints choosing Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore with the eighth overall pick. Most mock drafts have had the Saints choosing one of the best edge rushers available -- either Colin Simmons (Texas) or Dylan Stewart (South Carolina), but neither of them were still on the board when New Orleans went on the clock.
"Our first off-script pick, Saints' primary need is edge rusher, but there is no one rated high enough on the big board to go here," Banks wrote. "So we see them going best player available."
Just two other corners were taken in this way-too-early mock draft; Ellis Robinson IV (Georgia) went to the New York Giants at No. 11, while Zabien Brown (Alabama) joined the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 17. There wasn't a single edge rusher taken in the top-20 after Simmons and Stewart went top-5. Moore has been linked to the Saints before, but they'll need a top-10 pick to get him. Cornerback may not be their top priority in next year's draft but it will be a position to address. Kool-Aid McKinstry will be entering a contract year in 2027 and could walk just like Alontae Taylor and Paulson Adebo did.
Moore won a host of honors last year at Notre Dame; he was a unanimous All-American, a finalist for both the Jim Thorpe Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and a semifinalist for both the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lott IMPACT Trophy. He was chiefly responsible for holding USC Trojans wide receiver Makai Lemon, the Philadelphia Eagles' first-round pick in April, to just four catches and 76 yards when their teams met. He has all the qualities teams look for between his prototypical size (listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds), clean play (5 penalties on 1,368 career defensive snaps) and ball skills (7 career interceptions and 18 passes defensed). If the Saints are going to be as successful this season as we hope, Moore may not be there when they pick next year.

BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran singled home the winning run to cap a three-run rally in the 10th inning after Boston blew a two-run lead in the ninth, and the Red Sox finished a four-game sweep of the rival New York Yankees with a 5-4 victory Sunday night.
Boston starter Sonny Gray took a no-hitter into the eighth against his former team before Amed Rosario singled with one out. That ended a brilliant outing for Gray, who had nine strikeouts to reach 2,000 for his career.
But the Yankees scored twice in the ninth off All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman to tie it 2-all, aided enormously by a brutal throwing error from two-time Gold Glove right fielder Wilyer Abreu.
New York scratched across two more runs in the 10th, taking advantage of another throwing error by Abreu after Rosario’s sinking liner squirted out of his glove for an RBI single. But right-hander Fernando Cruz (4-3) was unable to hold the lead after closer David Bednar had pitched the previous two innings.
Boston’s first four-game sweep of the Yankees at home since 2018 marked the first four-game winning streak this season for the last-place Red Sox.

DETROIT (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt had two home runs and Jasson Domínguez hit a go-ahead, two-run shot in the sixth inning off Tarik Skubal, lifting the New York Yankees to a 4-2 series-winning victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night.
Skubal (3-4) tied a career high by giving up three home runs, allowing that many in a game for the first time since 2021. The two-time reigning Cy Young Award winner gave up only one other hit, didn't walk a batter and had nine strikeouts over six innings.
Ryan Weathers (3-5) allowed two runs — one earned — six hits and walked two while striking out six in six innings.
Yerry De los Santos and Fernando Cruz combined for two innings of relief and David Bednar pitched the ninth for his 16th save.
Skubal got off to a rough start with three straight ****** and Goldschmidt took advantage, hitting a 3-1 high fastball over the left-field wall.

DETROIT (AP) — Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered, drove in two runs and scored twice and the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Chisholm scored on Jose Caballero's RBI groundout in the fourth inning before hitting a two-run homer in the sixth as New York ended a three-game losing streak and stopped Detroit's four-game winning streak.
Carlos Rodón (4-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs and six hits with two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Three relievers finished, with David Bednar getting the final four outs for his 15th save.
Casey Mize (2-5) gave up four runs and eight hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six while giving the Tigers their 27th straight game in which the starting pitcher allowed four or fewer runs.
Detroit took the lead with two runs in the third. Zach McKinstry hit a one-out single and took third when Ben Malgeri singled in his first major-league at-bat. McKinstry scored on Rodon's wild pitch and Malgeri came home on Dillon Dingler's base hit.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning and the New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-5 on Monday night.
Paul Goldschmidt and Ryan McMahon homered for the Yankees, who won for the first time in four extra-inning games this season.
Angel Martínez connected for a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Guardians a 5-4 lead before Goldschmidt's grounder in the eighth drove in Trent Grisham to tie it.
With Ali Sánchez as the automatic runner in the 10th, Ben Rice was intentionally walked with one out. Max Schuemann challenged a called strike three on a full count and got it overturned to ball four, loading the bases. The Guardians pulled their infield in, but Bellinger's base hit to left field off Shawn Armstrong (1-1) drove in Sánchez and Rice.
David Bednar (2-3), the seventh Yankees pitcher, struck out three in 1 2/3 hitless innings for the win. He retired five of the six batters he faced.

Formally known as the Bauhausgalan, this professional track and field meet held at Stockholm Stadium is the city's most prestigious international sporting event of the year. Serving as the fifth stop of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, top athletes from around the world are expected to compete.
Already confirmed for pole vault this weekend, Mondo Duplantis will have a homecoming in Stockholm, but there will be plenty of challengers against him. Sam Kendricks, Kurtis Marschall and Sondre Guttormsen will all compete in pole vault, while other major names like Kenny Bednarek and Dina Asher-Smith will take to the track.
