Just over a month after retiring from tennis, Roberto Bautista Agut has returned to competitive sport - this time on a football pitch.
The 38-year-old former Wimbledon semi-finalist has signed for Spanish seventh-tier side CD Els Ibarsos and scored twice in a 4-2 win on his debut in a pre-season match.
The Spaniard's tennis career featured 12 singles **** le wins plus a Davis Cup triumph with his country in 2019.
Achieving success on the football field is now his challenge.

Argentina rugby fly half Tomas Albornoz has been banned for four matches after angrily confronting referee Angus Gardner following his side's defeat to England rugby.
The Pumas were contentiously denied a potentially match-tying try in the final minute of the clash in Santiago del Estero, with Bautista Delguy's score ruled out by referee Gardner in consultation with television match official Brett Cronan.
Albornoz had to be restrained by teammates after twice rushing over to Australian official Gardner in the aftermath.
The 28-year-old accepted his conduct, taken as a whole, was intimidatory but did not accept that his actions were abusive, insulting, offensive or threatening – a distinction which was accepted by both World Rugby and the disciplinary committee.
He has therefore been banned for four matches, including this weekend's encounter between Argentina and South Africa in Buenos Aires.

It's hard to believe that this coming January will mark ten years. I remember when I heard the news. It hit me like a slug hitting a deer. I had to sit for a few minutes, reading and re-reading the story. My brain refused to believe that the news was true, but eventually reality set in.
All of us have different memories and reactions to the death of Yordano Ventura. Things we know for certain: he had one of the best arms the Royals ever signed and developed. His stuff was electric. He had a fiery attitude that we loved and opponents often hated. He had his share of dustups, notably with Mike Trout, Manny Machado, Jose Bautista, and the entire roster of the Chicago White Sox. There was also a tiff with Brett Lawrie that looked personal. Even when he was in the wrong, we stood behind him because he was our guy.
I loved the way he would swing his right leg around after delivering one of his blazing fastballs.
We felt like he was just starting to tap into his massive potential. Then he was gone way too soon.
His postseason appearances were must-see TV. Ned Yost unwittingly used him as a reliever in the 2014 Wild Card Game, which ended in a spectacular blowup. He was brilliant against the Angels in the Division Series, tossing five-hit ball over seven shutout innings. He threw 95 pitches in that game. Twenty-two of those pitches reached 100 mph or more. When you add in his devastating curveball, well, sometimes there's just no chance for the hitter. Cory Sandhagen is set to undergo an MRI this week to reveal the extent of the damage done from a submission attempt by Mario Bautista that left him limping for the final two rounds of their fight at UFC 329.
The veteran bantamweight contender took to Instagram on Monday to show off a gruesome injury to the back of his leg that developed after Bautista went for a Suloev stretch before transitioning to a kneebar just as the first round was coming to an end. As soon as Sandhagen returned to his feet, he was noticeably limping to his corner between rounds.
In the end, Bautista scored a unanimous decision win, which was cemented when he dropped Sandhagen in the third and final round with all three judges giving him the same 29-28 scores.

An apparent knee injury snuffed out whatever magic Conor McGregor planned to rekindle in his first Ultimate Fighting Championship ****** ignment in five years.
Max Holloway was awarded an anticlimactic technical knockout over the SBG Ireland cornerstone in the first round of their UFC 329 headliner on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A disappointed and dejected McGregor (22-7, 10-5 UFC)—who had beaten the Hawaiian by unanimous decision in their first meeting in 2013—bowed out 1:09 into Round 1.
It was essentially over before it began. McGregor appeared to suffer the injury while throwing a jumping round kick inside the first 10 seconds. He collapsed on multiple occasions afterward, unable to put any weight on his right leg while he attempted to engage Holloway (28-9, 24-9 UFC). It soon became clear to all involved that McGregor was compromised to such an extent that he could not move forward with the match.

Mario Bautista got his long-awaited revenge on Saturday at UFC 329, as the 33-year-old bantamweight contender defeated Cory Sandhagen by unanimous decision, seven years after losing to him by armbar submission in Bautista's short-notice UFC debut.
During a dramatic three-rounder inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Bautista appeared to injure Sandhagen's knee, and though Sandhagen fought through the pain, he was ultimately powerless to prevent Bautista from rag-dolling him in a dominant third.
"I knew I could beat him," Bautista (18-3) said after collecting three scores of 29-28 from the judges. "I just needed to come prepared."
Sandhagen (18-7) had moments of magic though, dancing around the outside real estate of the Octagon in the first round, hitting a front kick and check left hand that hurt Bautista.

It's not a fight that Sandhagen necessarily wanted, but once he saw how the other top names in the division were being matched up, he had a feeling this would be his next ***** ignment.

Bautista is set to take on Cory Sandhagen in a bantamweight matchup at UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He believes Sandhagen has a clear wrestling disadvantage against him, and plans to push the pace early.
With his last fight being a decision loss, Bautista doesn’t want to let Sandhagen use his evasive movement to bank rounds. Their upcoming clash being a three-rounder, he is eager to avoid leaving it to the judges.
Eyeing a definitive finish, Bautista told Home of Fight: “I’m gonna be hunting that finish. I think it’s obvious where he’s not really the best, which is on the mat. So I’m gonna be hunting for that finish. Pushing hard. We got three rounds. So I’m gonna have to get on the gas right away. I can’t just let him get away with a decision and run around or anything. I think it’s gonna be an exciting fight.”

"Lok Dog" called for a ranked opponent following his successful UFC featherweight debut. This past Saturday, Oliveira (23-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) bounced back from his disappointing loss to Mario Bautista by putting away veteran Andre Fili (25-14 MMA, 13-13 UFC) on the main card of UFC Fight Night 279 at the Meta Apex. It was a big statement win for Oliveira and one that he hopes can get him a big fight next.
"I think to start in this division, if UFC could give me the top 12 that I was, the point that I was in my division when I was a bantamweight, I was top 12," Oliveira said at the UFC Fight Night 279 post-fight press conference. "I mean, to be honest, I don't know who is the top 12 in this division, but if (UFC) can give me a top 12, I'd be so glad of that. If not, (UFC) can give me Josh Emmett."
Oliveira was on a four-fight winning streak before getting his first UFC main event spot against Bautista in February. Many thought he was bound to be a ***** le contender at 135 pounds, but the Brazilian looked flat against Bautista. He attributes his bad performance to extreme weight cutting – which he won't have to deal with now fighting at 145 pounds.
