The biggest story of the opening week of the college football season was Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan, as the Wolverines were given one last play after they appeared to lose the game on a failed Hail Mary. The decision led to a lot of criticism, but Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy does not agree with the critics.
Despite the outrage at the way the game ended, Portnoy claims that Michigan won the game "fair and square."
After getting largely outplayed the entire game, Michigan had one last chance to win the game with a Hail Mary as time expired. Unfortunately for Michigan, the pass fell incomplete, and it appeared that the Wolverines had lost the game by a final score of 12-7.
However, they were given one last chance.
Immediately after the play, the stadium announcer said it was under review. And a few moments later, the head referee stepped to the middle of the field and said, "After review, there's one second remaining in the game. Third down."

Diana Russini is reportedly getting ready to come back to the world of sports media and the NFL. As per the rumours, Dave Portnoy and Barstool Sports are leading the race to acquire her services.
NFL insider Diana Russini was involved in quite a big scandal after questions were raised about her relationship with former Tennessee ***** ans and current New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
Russini was working as a senior NFL reporter for The Athletic when the story broke. She was let go in the aftermath, and an internal investigation found there had been a 'clear violation' of company standards.
However, a romantic relationship was not confirmed by the investigation either. And now it seems Russini is planning a comeback, with a popular media figure among the frontrunners to help her make it happen.

Netflix is now eight months into its entry into the podcasting realm. Despite a lack of transparency on viewership and whether the content is driving subscriptions, the company continues to lean in. On Tuesday, Netflix announced it is renewing its entire original lineup of video podcasts while also announcing a number of deals for new podcasts, including the popular Pivot Podcast featuring Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor.
When it comes to the sports properties Netflix signed for exclusive video distribution, many of them seem to have become out of sight and out of mind months later. Video continues to become an every day way that people discover programs. Clips fill social feeds and algorithms push content to the masses, but the Netflix paywall does prevent easy access to some of the more popular ***** les. That's why with the NFL season beginning next week, could this be the final proving ground for the first wave of sports podcasts on Netflix?
Currently, 19 podcasts streaming their full video presentations on Netflix fit into the sports genre. Three come from Barstool Sports, 10 from The Ringer, two from iHeartMedia, three are Netflix originals, and The Pivot will join the lineup beginning September 8.
What we know is that the Barstool arrangement is a multiyear agreement, while the deals with iHeartMedia and Spotify, which owns The Ringer, did not include terms.
What we don't know is how viewership is trending for the sports ***** les Netflix added to its slate. In July, Netflix lumped all podcast viewing into a vague "other shows" label during its Q2 earnings call. The company also has not revealed which podcasts are driving the most subscriptions.

Caitlin Clark's WNBA MVP odds are still lagging behind a couple of other stars, but Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy doesn't think the race should be close at all.
Currently, Clark has the fourth-best odds (+5000) on DraftKings to take home the league's biggest individual honor. A'ja Wilson is the favorite (-1200), followed by Olivia Miles (+800) and Kelsey Mitchell, Clark's Indiana Fever teammate, at +4000.
On "Wake Up Barstool" Monday, Portnoy made his case that Clark is the clear-cut MVP, arguing that she is 'dominating the sport' the way people anticipated she would when the came to the WNBA in 2024.
Portnoy is an unabashed Clark supporter, but insisted his bias isn't why the third-year guard should win her first MVP trophy.
"Caitlin Clark is the MVP, and I'm not just saying it because I'm a Caitlin Clark fan," Portnoy began. "The numbers, and what she has been doing for the last month. The last game, 34 points, 12 ***** ists. Game before that, 37 points, 10 ***** ists…In her last 10 games: 34, 37, 21, 24, 26, 29, 22 (points). She's a double-double machine. The league has never seen anything like it."

When Vinod Khosla admitted in his first press conference as the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks that he has been — and continues to be — a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, it was the quote that launched a thousand reactions.
Media outlets and social media accounts had a field day with the comments made Wednesday, including the Seattle Times, New York Post, The Comeback, and Barstool Sports.
"What not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner? Reveal you've been a Steelers fan your whole life and still watch all of their games," wrote Barstool in a post on X featuring video of Khosla's comments.
Admittedly, not the best look, even if his comments were overblown. That's probably something best left for the next time the two teams play, and only after Seattle wins.
Still, while Khosla might only be a few days into his tenure as an NFL owner, he's not wasting any time pushing back on the narrative that he's not fully committed to the Seahawks franchise.

Billionaire tech investor Vinod Khosla has been named the Seattle Seahawks' new owner behind a massive $9.6 billion sale on August 26th. Yesterday, Khosla, alongside his family, gave his very first press conference; it's fair to say it was an unforgettable introduction to the new owner.
The Seahawks are coming off a triumphant Super Bowl championship last year and look to maintain momentum by introducing their new owner to Seahawks fans. Rather, Khosla gave a perfect example of "what not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner," Barstool Sports posted on X.
"I also happened to come to this country in '76 when the Steelers were winning the Super Bowl, so actually I was originally and still am a big Steelers fan. Also, little-known fact, but I still watch all the Steelers games too," Khosla cheerfully said.
Barstool Sports personality Hubbs commented on the matter sarcastically.
"Jack Bauer couldn't have gotten that information out of me if he had a gun pointed at my knee and was threatening my family's safety. Just no need at all to put that out there. Now, is it earth-shattering and detrimental that the Seahawks owner is a big Steelers fan? No, not really. It'd be worse if the Seahawks hadn't won a Super Bowl since losing to Pittsburgh in 2006, but thankfully for them, they have," Hubbs wrote for Barstool Sports.

Tom Brady has never been a stranger to high-end fashion. He has walked a few Met Gala red carpets. But recently, he turned heads by modeling for Demna at Gucci's Times Square show in sleek black leather pants and a matching jacket. He pushed the boundaries even further in front of GQ's lenses, posing in an edgy, open-chest gray suit. While the fashion world celebrated the seven-time Super Bowl champion's bold aesthetic, Dave Portnoy stood as a critic.
"Look how they massacred my boy!" Portnoy wrote as he shared Brady's picture in the gray suit on his Instagram Story.
But the Barstool co-founder didn't stop there. He sent another reaction response on X, replying to GQ's post featuring Brady in the two aforementioned outfits.
"BLINK TWICE IF YOU NEED HELP TOMMY!" Portnoy humorously remarked.
Tom Brady's always got something cooking off the field. Subscribe for more interesting stories.

Last time the Indiana Fever met the Chicago Sky on the court, Chicago guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the game after a hard foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. While she had the rematch against the Fever circled on her calendar, she ultimately fell flat in that game, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was there to enjoy it.
After the Sky fell in a blowout to the Fever on Sunday night in a game where Carrington had minimal impact, Portnoy took to social media to mock the Chicago guard for "making a fool out of herself."
After the Aug. 8 game in which Carrington was ejected, the Sky guard circled the rematch with the Fever on her calendar.
"8/23," she wrote in a post on X, adding a smiley face emoji.
Aug. 23, of course, was the date of Sunday night's game between the Fever and Sky in Chicago.

The Indiana Fever have been at the center of what has seemed like one controversy after another throughout the 2026 season. Most recently, teh discourse surrounding the team has been dominated by a hard foul that Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington had on Sophie Cunningham.
In the aftermath of the foul, which led to all sorts of outrageous responses, White said that she didn't feel Carrington had any malicious intent behind what was an admittedly reckless play.
"Look, it was a hard foul," White said. "It did happen, and I thought it was the right call. One of the things about [Carrington] is that she's going to play her ***** off, man. She's going to compete. ***** ody's going to go walking in for a layup. I don't oppose the hard foul, but I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck."
In the aftermath, many, such as Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, called for White to lose her job for not properly sticking up for Cunningham in their eyes.
"This isn't politics; your player got ***** aulted. Defend your player in the press conference. Be like, 'Yeah, that was a dirty play; she should've hit the showers.' She acts like she's the coach of the other team. I don't care if she's the best Xs and Os, which she's not, get her the ***** out of there. Either defend your players or get lost."

Old DiJonai Carrington-Caitlin Clark video resurfaces after Sophie Cunningham foul originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
DiJonai Carrington's ejection for a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham has revived debate surrounding another controversial play involving the Chicago Sky guard. Carrington was ******* sed a Flagrant 2 and ejected during Saturday's game between the Sky and Indiana Fever after striking Cunningham in the head from behind. Cunningham was driving for a layup when Carrington attempted to prevent the basket, making contact with her head and sending her crashing to the court.
The frightening fall immediately sparked strong reactions across social media. As the play circulated online, an old video involving Carrington and Caitlin Clark also resurfaced and generated more than 1 million views.
The older clip came from the Fever's 2024 playoff series against the Connecticut Sun, Carrington's former team. Carrington appeared to poke Clark in the eye while attempting to defend the Indiana guard.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy reposted the video after Carrington's foul on Cunningham and called her the "dirtiest player in the game." The accusation quickly renewed debate over Carrington's physical style of play. However, Clark rejected the idea that Carrington intentionally struck her during the 2024 incident.

The Boston Red Sox have had one of the most remarkable midseason turnarounds in recent memory. After looking like one of teh worst teams in the MLB through the first part of the season, Boston has since gone 24-3 in its last 27 games heading into Wednesday night's matchup with teh Chicago White Sox.
As great as Boston is playing, fans watching from home were treated to another reason to celebrate as it was NESN's third annual Women's Celebration Night.
Play-by-play voice Emma Tiedemann was joined in the booth by color ******* yst Alanna Rizzo, with Kasey Hudson reporting from the field. Nicole Menner hosted studio coverage, with Sophia Jurksztowicz and Jen McCaffrey also contributing.
Per Sportsvideo.org, Wednesday night's broadcast "is part of NESN's broader Women of NESN initiative, which focuses on creating access across the industry, from on-air and production positions to roles on the business side of the network."
Unfortunately, not all Red Sox fans were thrilled with how the broadcast went, including one of the most famous ones in Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.

Netflix is sending a Motley Crew of personalities Down Under for the first regular-season NFL game ever played in Australia.
The streamer revealed its full broadcast team for the 49ers-Rams matchup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Elle Duncan hosting studio coverage alongside desk ***** ysts Michael Irvin, Nick Foles and Clay Matthews III, while Noah Eagle calls play-by-play with Luke Kuechly as his ***** yst and MJ Acosta reporting from the sideline. The game airs Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8:35 p.m. ET, kicking off Netflix's expanded five-game NFL slate.
Netflix expanded its NFL footprint from two games to five for the upcoming season, and Duncan, the face of the streamer's fledgling sports division, told Sports Media Watch that Netflix intends to run a consistent crew across that entire slate.
"We want every single one of our events to, yes, have a through-line and some consistency, and you'll get that with the desk and the talent," Duncan said.
Irvin, who already has Netflix experience, having worked the desk during last season's Christmas Day doubleheader alongside Devin McCourty and Austin Ekeler, is the closest thing this lineup has to a returning face. Foles and Matthews are both making their Netflix debuts. Foles won Super Bowl LII MVP with the Eagles during an 11-season career across six teams, but has no real broadcasting track record beyond his own The SZN podcast, which recently joined NBC Sports Philadelphia's podcast network. Matthews, a longtime Green Bay Packers linebacker and Super Bowl champion, has built what media presence he has the same way, joining Bussin' With The Boys last year as its self-described "consistent fourth chair" alongside Will Compton, Taylor Lewan and Delanie Walker, after FanDuel lured the show away from Barstool Sports.

ESPN is reportedly planning a new college football show built around Josh Pate and Bussin' With The Boys co-hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, airing Friday afternoons from college campuses, according to Front Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiegel.
The reported show would mark an expansion of ties ESPN has already built with all three hosts. Pate joined the network's Get Up rotation last year, as part of a broader push from content president Burke Magnus, who has said college football is under-covered on ESPN's talk programming relative to how many people actually watch the games. Compton and Lewan started appearing on ESPN's daytime lineup around the same time, following their decision to leave Barstool Sports for a presenting sponsorship with FanDuel.
Of course, the show, which sometimes originates from the same city as the next morning's College GameDay broadcast, also indicates ESPN is looking to further lean into a strategy where its top personalities are digital natives. Naturally, the comparisons will be made to Pat McAfee's own rise at the Worldwide Leader, given the trio's SEC Championship altcast debut on ESPN2 last December — an altcast built off the Field Pass template McAfee had already proven out several times over — and now a reported Friday show on top of it. If it feels like a coincidence, it isn't. It's more a barometer for what's possible when a network invests in an audience someone's already built, according to Pate.
"I think when you combine that… year-round college football being viable and then just sports media as a concept being presented in practice the way Pat has done it, I think that there is no ceiling on what you're allowed to do, what you're capable of doing," Pate told Front Office Sports in July.
What Pate, Lewan, and Compton are actually capable of doing won't be clear until games are being played this fall, when ESPN will have to find out whether a Friday show built around three podcast hosts can hold up against the machine it already runs on Saturdays, one anchored by College GameDay and, per Glasspiegel's reporting, the same site the new show would sometimes share. On a recent episode of Bussin' With The Boys, though, Pate and Lewan laid out a vision for the alleged concept and the specific gap in ESPN's Friday programming they think it can fill.

Peter Schrager's 2 p.m. show seems to be sports media's worst-kept secret at this point.
OutKick's Bobby Burack reported that ESPN is expected to announce a new 2 p.m. show hosted by Schrager in the coming week(s). The show itself has been the expected outcome of ESPN's afternoon lineup shuffle since at least May, when The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported that a program built around Schrager was the leading candidate to replace the 2 p.m. edition of SportsCenter.
Schrager's name has been tied to ESPN's afternoon shakeup since almost the moment Around the Horn was canceled. When CNBC's Alex Sherman first reported that ESPN was considering replacing the 2 p.m. SportsCenter, he described the concept as an "all-sports" show rather than another NFL-only hour, and Marchand reported last spring that Schrager doing a show at 2 or 5 p.m. was "pretty likely," floating the idea that he could be "a central figure in some sort of ensemble" rather than a solo act.
Schrager joined ESPN from NFL Network and Fox Sports last April after nearly a decade as one of the faces of Good Morning Football, and quickly became a fixture across Get Up, First Take, NFL Live, and The Pat McAfee Show. He stole the show at McAfee's NFL Draft Spectacular that spring, launched The Schrager Hour podcast with Omaha Productions in the fall, and stepped in as a guest host for Mike Greenberg on Get Up, a run that gave ESPN executives confidence he could anchor an hour of his own, per Marchand's reporting. He's also been candid about missing the three-hour daily runway he had at Good Morning Football, where he could spend eight minutes on whatever topic interested him that day. A solo show would hand him something close to that format again.
The 5 p.m. hour, by contrast, looks like it's staying put. That slot has also been filled by SportsCenter since Around the Horn's cancellation, and while Scott Van Pelt was floated for months as a candidate to take it over, he confirmed on his own podcast in April that he's staying in his late-night role rather than moving. ESPN executive Burke Magnus had pushed hard for a reunion between Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo to anchor the new hour, telling Andrew Marchand it was "a bit of a selfish concept by me" given how big a fan he'd been of their old radio pairing, but Russillo's own schedule — and later move to Barstool — made the setup unlikely. Without a concept he could actually build around, Van Pelt opted to stay with the format that's already earned his SportsCenter 10 Emmy nominations and regularly lands him timely interviews with players and coaches in the immediate aftermath of major games, interviews that simply wouldn't be available to a show airing at 5 p.m. instead of after primetime.

The argument over the greatest men's college basketball player ever never really ends. It just shifts to a new barstool, and any credible list has to run through the same core group of legends.
This one sticks to what they did on campus: awards, numbers, dominance in their own era and how much they defined the sport while they were actually in school. Pro careers do not matter here.

He played in three national ****** le games, won one in 1984 and was the defensive terror in the paint opponents game-planned around every March. Jon Gruden is backing the Denver Broncos going into the 2026 NFL season.
During an appearance on "Wake Up Barstool," Gruden picked the Broncos to win the AFC West this fall.
"I'm gonna pick Denver, just because of the continuity — head coach, quarterback. Almost all of their starters are back on both sides of the ball, and they're going to get a jolt from [Jaylen] Waddle."
Behind the Broncos, Gruden projected the Los Angeles Chargers to finish second in the AFC West and the Kansas City Chiefs to finish third. "I think all three of those teams can be playoff teams," he said.
As for the Las Vegas Raiders, Gruden expects his old team to improve but not leapfrog the "very tough" teams in their division with established coaches and quarterbacks.

Decade-long Cowboys quarterback reveals his only real regret years after retirement originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tony Romo spent over a decade as the face of the Dallas Cowboys, and the résumé backs up the hype. Over 156 career games, Romo threw for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns -- franchise records that still stand -- and earned four Pro Bowl nods between 2006 and 2014.
He led Dallas to the postseason four times. In three of those seasons, the Cowboys won 11-plus games and captured the NFC East ****** le. What he never achieved was a Super Bowl ring. The Cowboys never advanced past the divisional round under his leadership, finishing with a 2-4 record in his six career playoff appearances.
That unfulfilled goal has followed him well into his broadcasting career, a point Romo made clear on Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast. When asked what he would change about his playing days, the Wisconsin-raised quarterback didn't hesitate to share his biggest career regret.
"The only regret I would have is that my job was to bring a Super Bowl to Dallas, and I didn't do it," he said. "So, that always sticks with me a little bit. You give your whole body, heart, and soul, everything into it, and just wanted that for all the fans, Joneses, for everybody that you're around. That one always sticks with me a little bit, just because I had that opportunity and just wasn't able to do it."

The United States Men’s National Team entered the 2026 FIFA World Cup with high hopes, boasting arguably its most talented roster yet with a home-field advantage throughout the tournament. Unfortunately, that did not lead to a longer run through the tournament, and fans are not happy.
The United States suffered a lopsided 4-1 loss to Belgium in the round of 16, leading Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy to believe that the team “embarrassed” the entire country on the international stage.
The United States entered the World Cup with what is almost certainly its most talented roster to date. However, the result was no better than the past two decades.
The United States got off to a strong start to the tournament, beating Paraguay 4-1 and then topping Australia 2-0 to clinch the group. They then pulled out a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 to advance to the round of 16. However, that’s where the run ended.
The USMNT faced its only real test of the tournament in the round of 16 against Belgium. It was a match that oddsmakers had as essentially a coin flip between the two sides. However, Belgium looked far superior from start to finish, blasting the United States by a final score of 4-1.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy mocked the soccer fans complaining about FIFA’s stunning reversal of U.S. soccer star Folarin Balogun’s suspension.
On Sunday, FIFA announced that it had suspended the red card given to Balogun in the U.S.’s round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The red card meant an automatic one-game suspension, meaning Balogun would miss America’s round of 16 match against Belgium.
It was later revealed that President Donald Trump allegedly called FIFA President Gianni Infantino himself to protest the red card.

Dianna Russini has been out of a job since April, but Dave Portnoy would fix that today.
The Barstool Sports founder told Us Weekly he'd bring the former Athletic NFL insider on board without a second thought, a stance that puts him well out ahead of his own network. Back in April, days after Russini's resignation, Barstool's Dan "Big Cat" Katz told Front Office Sports he wasn't even sure she'd want to work at Barstool, given some of the jokes the site had made about her situation, though he figured she'd land somewhere doing independent media.
"No-brainer, if she wanted to work here, we'd do it," Portnoy said.
Russini resigned from The Athletic on April 14, a week after Page Six published photos of her and New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel at an Arizona resort. Both denied wrongdoing at the time, with Russini saying the photos didn't represent "the group of six people who were hanging out during the day" and Vrabel calling any suggestion of impropriety "laughable." The Athletic's Steven Ginsberg said leadership had initially accepted Russini's detailed explanation before new questions emerged, widening the internal investigation. Russini resigned before that review concluded, though Ginsberg told staff the standards review of her published work would continue regardless.
Portnoy didn't treat any of that as disqualifying.

Dave Portnoy, the founder and owner of the renowned sports and popular culture company Barstool Sports, has suggested that he is considering running against current NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The 49-year-old businessman, in a recent interview, berated the Working Families Party leader by insinuating that he would do much better work in office since he has had experience doing a "real job."
During his recent conversation with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Portnoy expressed his intentions to challenge Zohran Mamdani for NYC's mayoral seat, before referring to him as a "clown politician."
"I would love to run against [Mamdani]," he told Watters. "If I was going to run, it would be here. Can I win here? I have no idea. I don't know the demographics, whether I'd get enough votes. There's a lot of people who like me in New York City."
Portnoy continued, "I know that. I've done a lot of good in New York City when I wasn't thinking about politics…so it wasn't for show. I've had a real job, I've done real things. Unlike these clown politicians who have never had a job and never been in the real world for a day."
Portnoy reasoned his eligibility for the role of NYC mayor over Zohran Mamdani by listing two of his past ventures. He pointed out the Barstool Fund he launched in 2020, which has since raised $41.6 million to aid small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Portnoy also highlighted his popular YouTube series, One Bite Pizza Reviews, where he, as the name suggests, recommends pizza places to people.

New York politician Curtis Sliwa believes Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy would get crushed in an election against Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D).
On Monday night, Portnoy appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime. During a discussion about the recent series of Democratic Socialist wins in primaries in New York, Portnoy claimed the Democratic Party "let the fox into the henhouse" in reference to Mamdani.
"And now he's just running rampant and kicking them all out!" Portnoy continued.
The Barstool founder later said he would "love" run against Mamdani for mayor of New York, citing his pizza reviews as an example of him doing "a lot of good" in the city.

Dave Portnoy rips Emmanuel Acho over viral Caitlin Clark comments as WNBA debate intensifies originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
Emmanuel Acho's comments about Caitlin Clark continue to generate discussion across the sports world, and now one of the Indiana Fever star's most vocal supporters has weighed in.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy reacted Monday after Acho argued that the WNBA would be "better without" Clark, saying the Fever guard has become "a bigger distraction than she is an additive." The remarks quickly spread across social media, drawing criticism from fans and media personalities alike.
Portnoy wasn't interested in debating the substance of Acho's argument.
Rather than launching into a lengthy rebuttal, Portnoy suggested Acho's comments were designed to generate attention.

The 2026 season has been a rollercoaster for the Boston Red Sox, especially last week.
The Red Sox appeared to hit rock bottom after dropping two of three to the Colorado Rockies in heartbreaking fashion, falling a season-worst 14 games below .500. They immediately bounced back with a historic four-game sweep of the New York Yankees at Fenway Park, winning the series finale in walk-off fashion after rallying in extra innings.
On Monday morning, Dave Portnoy shared his thoughts on Boston's stunning turn of events on "Wake Up Barstool."

Caitlin Clark’s notoriety has led to a lot of negative reactions, with Dave Portnoy sharing his take on why she gets the treatment she does.
The WNBA left Caitlin Clark off their 30th anniversary poster, leading to strong fan reactions which considered it a disrespectful gesture to the athlete who’s popularized the WNBA to new heights.
Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy shares his theory on why the WNBA would do something like this to Clark.
On the Wake Up Barstool show, Portnoy made it clear that WNBA’s treatment of Clark reeks of ‘jealousy and hypocrisy,’ implying the league resents its biggest star because her popularity preceded the WNBA.
“No one has ever come into the league like she has, it’s jealousy, it’s hypocrisy, and just not knowing where your bread is **** ered… They don’t like that she has been crowned this queen of the league before she even showed up, and they want to make a point about it, and they continue to make a point about it.”

The WNBA’s treatment of its biggest star. Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark has become a hot-button issue in the last week. Clark’s back was injured in a game against the Phoenix Mercury after a reckless closeout. Clark was struck in the neck area by Mercury guard Alyssa Thomas, resulting in Clark’s missing the Fever’s next game and Thomas being awarded a flagrant 2 foul after the game and an accompanying one-game suspension.
Still, many feel that the league isn’t doing enough to protect Clark. Others, such as Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, feel the Fever’s sharpshooter isn’t being marketed properly, in light of her being left off a special WNBA 30th anniversary poster.
“Well, it’s the worst marketed league in the history of leagues,” Portnoy said of the league. “They’re absolute morons. That’s the answer. Now, a lot of times social media will take this into a different stratosphere.”
Portnoy said that he thinks the issues with Clark’s treatment by the league are less about race and more about jealousy.
“I don’t think it really is because she’s a white girl, a straight girl, which people say, because the W has had a lot of white superstars and WNBA players,” he added. “So it’s not like she’s the first white girl. A lot of the great players of all time— we just mentioned Taurasi, uh, they’ve had great white female basketball players. I think They felt she was anointed. **** ody has ever come into the league like she has.

Dave Portnoy has a new book coming out, along with a spiffy Wall Street Journal profile piece to go with it.
As one might expect, that means the Barstool Sports founder has some big claims to make about his media empire's rise and how he's kept it successful and profitable despite critics and controversy.
"Dave Portnoy Has One Rule for Success: Hire Great People and 'Let Them Run Wild'" from Joshua Chaffin hit the WSJ on Friday night, and includes many of the usual topics about Portnoy. A recounting of his rise, examples of how he's maintained success, and how he's staved off the many, many times he and Barstool have been accused of misogyny, racism, and more.
Within the piece, there are references to Call Her Daddy, the raunchy advice-and-comedy podcast created by Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn in 2018. The infamous podcast was a huge hit for Barstool, but by 2020, Cooper and Franklyn were at odds with Portnoy, and their partnership was starting to show signs of fraying. Franklyn ended up leaving the show, while Cooper continued to host the podcast at Barstool until 2021, when she signed an exclusive deal with Spotify and eventually launched the Unwell Network.
While Call Her Daddy was a prime example of Barstool as an incubator for rising talent, it also proved a cautionary experience for Portnoy, showing how success often leads people to take their talents elsewhere.

Wyndham Clark may not have a lot of fans based on his past transgressions at other golf courses. But even the new U.S. Open champion has an "enemies" list. And at the top of it may be a Florida sports superstar
Clark, 32, won his national championship on Sunday for a second time and made a media tour to various New York-based national sports and general interest and entertainment shows — everything from Pat McAfee and Dan Patrick to The Today Show.
That included a podcast appearance on Barstool Sports, where the guys from "Pardon Your Take" pulled up a social media post on X from a decade ago in which Clark wrote, "I hate Baker Mayfield."
Clark was attending Oklahoma State at the time and Mayfield was at in-state rival Oklahoma as quarterback before going on to becoming the No.1 overall pick in the NFL draft. He's currently the starting QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, why the hate?
