Florida's "Gator Bait" cheer returned on Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Roughly six years after the university banned their longtime chant due to "horrific historic racist imagery" that was ******* ociated with it, Florida brought back the cheer with the Gators band in the first quarter of their blowout 66-21 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
The song and chant returning did not come as much of a surprise. The Florida band had been seen practicing the song ahead of the season-opener, and new Florida president Stuart Bell hinted in June that the chant could be making a return.
"I know there's a lot around the Gator Bait [cheer]," Bell said in June, via the Orlando Sentinel. "It's meaningful to the Gator family. I hope we're able to have some really great conversations around that."

If you hold your nose and squint, you'll find that Cincinnati Reds 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes has actually turned things around – a bit.
Though he owns just a .463 OPS for the entirety of the 2026 season, that's ticked up to a .588 OPS since the start of the month of August. Over his most recent 13 games, he's hit a robust (for him!) .241/.333/.345 in 33 PA, and he even drove in a run (himself) to up his season total to 8 RBI.
Small victories! Except, of course, these are the Cincinnati Reds we are talking about, and the baseball gods long ago decided that the Reds cannot have nice things – even in small packages. On Friday prior to the start of their series against the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field, the Reds were forced to place Hayes back on the 10-day injured list, this time with a hamstring problem.
Infielder Edwin Arroyo was recalled.
It's just the latest chapter in the terribly disappointing tenure Hayes has had with the Reds across just 13 months. It's one that seemingly is destined to continue, though, as nothing he's done so far – not the league-worst hitting, not the injuries – has been enough for the Reds to cut bait on him, and that's obviously due to the ~$30 some million he's still owed between now and 2030.

The Rockets' veteran superstar recently sat down with Speedy Morman for a conversation on Boardroom Talks, where he discussed fans feeling entitled to talk trash to players as a part of the experience at NBA games.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Israel did not warn the United States before it struck an air base in northern Syria this week, despite fears of an escalation with the U.S. and NATO ally Turkey, the U.S. special envoy to Syria said.
Israel usually closely coordinates its military actions with the U.S., its key backer. Washington has tried to use this influence to moderate attacks as Israel carries out operations in Syria, Gaza and Lebanon.
Tom Barrack, who also serves as ambassador to Turkey, said the attack on Tuesday on the Abu Duhur base could have been Israel "baiting the Turks … that was the serious and worrying part."
However, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz contradicted the U.S. envoy's remarks about there being no warning, saying in a statement that Israel decided to alert senior members of the Syrian government. "Simultaneously, we transferred the intelligence reports to the relevant authorities in the U.S.," Katz added.
In the wake of the strikes, which caused damage but no casualties, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the base was attacked because Syria was "on the verge of breaching" an agreement by allowing Turkish troops to deploy there.

Earlier this year, bar and restaurant owners learned that they'd need to pivot from satellite to streaming. Then, after many of them did, they found out that they didn't need to do it.
Understandably, they're not happy about that.
In an item for Awful Announcing, Daniel Kaplan reports that some bar owners are considering litigation over the apparent bait-and-switch for the money that was wasted to overhaul the technological infrastructure after being told that DirecTV was out of the Sunday Ticket business for good.
EverPass, which distributes NFL products to commercial establishments, sent a clear message that the obsolescence of satellite was irreversible.
"The shift happening in live sports distribution is much bigger than any one company or product," EverPass told a bar owner in May, per Kaplan. "To clarify, there are no active discussions between EverPass and DirecTV regarding NFL Sunday Ticket. EverPass is the only authorized commercial distribution platform for NFL Sunday Ticket, beginning with the 2026 season."

One would think he got most of his grievances off his chest last year. Regrettably, the political situation at the Kraichgau club over the course of the 2025/26 campaign only produced more grievances.
This time, the Hoffenheim fans themselves demanded more of a voice in club affairs. That definitely merited extensive coverage. In point of fact, such protest actions constituted the very definition of what can and should be newsworthy on the Bundesliga beat. Some disagreed. The chronicler makes no apologies. Dietmar Hopp promised to turn this project over to the burgeoning fan-base that's been supporting it for the past two decades. Potentially reneging on that promise counts as a story. Period.
When it comes to the actual football produced by these Badeners, all coverage remains even-handed. TSG sporting director Andreas Schicker did a fabulous job reducing the roster last summer. The team supplied many memorable performances. Ahead of this season – were it not for the collapsed Fisnik Asllani transfer – Schicker would have produced nearly €100m in summer sales. The author concedes that such skillful administrating deserves praise as it would have theoretically negated the need for another Dietmar Hopp cash infusion.
Alas, we'll likely be reading about more direct benefactor financing next year.

Schicker again put together a stellar offseason, cutting up transfer bait, and recruiting plenty of young promising talent. Dammit. The author literally can't get through the next section quickly enough. There's far too much to report. At least the sheer scale of the activity gives us an excuse to dispense with the rhetoric. Suffice to say that the squad planning and administrative enforcement was simply top-notch. Merely consider yourselves forewarned that this grouchy writer can only contain his disdain to a limited extent.

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal looked back at a memorable moment involving former captain Rohit Sharma as the team prepared for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
Jaiswal shared a set of pictures from India's training session as preparations began for the two-Test series. However, it was his caption that caught the attention of fans.
The left-handed batter referred to one of Rohit's well-known on-field instructions from India's tour of Australia.
"Because once a legend said 'jab tak khelega nahi, tab tak uthneka nahi'," Jaiswal wrote on Instagram.

Sure, there have been a lot of stories in the MLB media about Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman. Some of those stories have indicated that Goodman might be solid trade bait as the MLB Trade Deadline draws closer on Aug. 3.
But one media outlet is making a prediction. What is it? The Rockies will extend Goodman on his contract.

Max Holloway is currently receiving all the attention after his fight with Conor McGregorended disappointingly at UFC 329, after the Irishman injured his knee in the first round. Amidst that, his personal life recently came into the spotlight after the Hawaiian star's wife, Alessa Quizon, opened up about how they first met.
Last year, Holloway and Quizon appeared on the Brotherlee Time podcast, where they shared the story of their relationship. That clip now resurfaced and went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons, prompting Holloway to clarify that her comments had been taken out of context.
"Here's the context: 1. She was engaged while leaving me on read for 5 years," Holloway wrote on X."Lol. So if anything, I'm an ******* that kept reaching out. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) on Monday cast doubt on the recency of a photo Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) shared of himself in the hospital alongside his wife.
"I've just heard from some other sources that was an older photo. So I really don't know," Johnson told host Eric Bolling on Real America's Voice's "Bolling!"
The Wisconsin Republican noted he has not spoken to McConnell, hopes he can recover and will "come back and vote" in line with President Trump's agenda.
Later Monday, Johnson backtracked from his remarks to Bolling. The Wisconsin senator wrote on the social platform X, "Beware of clickbait — watch the full clip. Most importantly, I hope SenMcConnell makes a full recovery and returns to the Senate."

Philadelphia 76ers It must feel strange for Sixers fans to be on the right side of one of these incredibly lopsided, head-scratching transactions. But here we are: Philadelphia may end up as the biggest winners of the week after somehow (!) landing 2026 MVP candidate, 2024 NBA finals MVP and bona fide second-team All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown in exchange for just two first-round picks, two second-rounders and Paul George – whose contract is widely regarded as one of the league’s worst. The 36-year-old, injury-prone former superstar is still owed roughly $110m over the next two seasons. At the time of writing, the Sixers remain in the LeBron James sweepstakes, but even if they strike out, they’re in terrific shape. The San Francisco 49ers backed themselves into an uncomfortable corner with Brandon Aiyuk and having to listen to the updates about that situation every day has become exhausting for every NFL fan on the planet. It’s a situation that the Los Angeles Rams would avoided long ago, according to Colin Cowherd.
The outspoken sports talk show host went on The Herd this week and compared the Niners’ situation to how the Rams have handled similar cases, cutting bait with players—regardless of talent—before it becomes toxic.
“I’ve been saying this on the Niners for years— cut bait, move on. The Rams moved on from great players like Jalen Ramsey, Todd Gurley and Cooper Kupp. The Rams do a much better job at moving on from injured players or players with drama. The Niners either coddle or keep them in-house. That’s why the 49ers roster has become old, dramatic, brittle, and expensive. Brandon Aiyuk goes on Instagram and basically blows up any opportunity to play for a tremendous young quarterback, Jayden Daniels. The Commanders dodged and bullet here. Not only were they star players as Sun Devils, they were teammates. Unfortunately for Aiyuk's legacy, he's become seemingly detached from his original definition of reality.

Early is not being placed on the injured list — at least yet — because the Red Sox are still gathering information on his injury. Regardless, the club designated veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle for **** ignment and is summoning lefty Alec Gamboa to Boston for Wednesday’s game, according to sources.
Cutting bait with Kahnle clears a 40-man roster spot for the impending addition of corner infielder Brett Harris. The Red Sox and Athletics are finalizing a minor trade that will send Harris to Boston and minor league pitching prospect Ben Hansen to the A’s.
Kahnle, who joined the Red Sox in early June when the club added him to its roster so he wouldn’t opt out of a minor league contract and pursue opportunities elsewhere, was shelled in Tuesday’s 9-1 loss to Washington. The righty allowed four earned runs (on four hits) in the eighth inning, continuing a pattern of poor performances. After beginning his tenure with five shutout innings over four games from June 4-14, Kahnle allowed eight earned runs in his last four innings. His ERA sits at 8.00.
Kahnle, who turns 37 in August, is out of minor league options and therefore will be waived, traded or released in the coming days. He had a 1.40 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 19 ⅓ innings with the WooSox before being called up.

For 75 minutes, Canada and South Africa struggled to find a way to break through in the World Cup’s inaugural round of 32 clash. Neither team ceded an inch. The Vikings are now off until training camp so the dog days of summer are here for football fans. It is going to be harder to generate any “click bait” articles. There will be folks searching for any players working out at high schools, parks, etc and, if they do, much will be made about it. The truth is there is not a lot going on and the players need to relax before the grind begins. I expect they will stay in shape (the smart ones) but other than that it is time to go to Cancun!
But we will not take a vacation and there will be the never ending back and forth about you know what all the way until training camp begin and ends, all through the preseason, and into the season. No matter who wins the job, all it is going to take is one bad game for the other side to start complaining loudly. It is going to be glorious if you like to see things burn which I do.
I wonder if the Vikings will sign an edge rusher. I know the outside opinion is that they should but Brian Flores thinks differently than most. The news that Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins has lost weight and is working at OLB some is interesting. Perhaps he has a discussion after the season and was told it might be his best fit? Either way, TID could be the answer and the remaining depth will be filled by the youts?
