GENEVA (AP) — Human rights experts commissioned by the U.N.'s top human rights body say they have found "reasonable grounds" to believe the United States committed war crimes in two strikes in Iran, including on a school in the southern city of Minab.
The international fact-finding mission on Iran says the findings center on a pair of airstrikes that killed at least 178 civilians, including women and children.
At the start of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran in February, at least one U.S. missile hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, according to an ****** ociated Press investigation. There has been no final accounting of what happened. Iranian state media have said 168 people were killed in the strike, most of them children.
"Following the United States and Israeli attacks on 28 February, the mission found reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed the war crime of launching indiscriminate attacks resulting in the loss of life or injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects," the fact-finding team said in a statement.
The Trump administration has yet to directly accept the blame or release findings of a Pentagon investigation into the school bombing.

Princess Diana's head-turning "revenge dress," which broke royal protocol and created a sensational pop culture moment, is going on sale for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The showstopping evening gown by Greek designer Christina Stambolian will be exhibited in London this month, before heading to Hong Kong, Geneva, and finally New York, where it is expected to sell for up to $300,000 when it goes under the hammer on December 9.
The late Princess of Wales wore the black, figure-hugging dress on June 29, 1994 — the same day that her then-husband, now-King Charles III, admitted in an ITN documentary that he'd been unfaithful. The revelation had been leaked days prior by the British press and the documentary aired to 13 million viewers nationwide.
Yet Diana chose to arrive for a party at the Serpentine Gallery in London in a gown so captivating it received its own moniker, becoming known as "the revenge dress."
Pairing the shoulder-baring silk design with black heels, a black clutch, bold red nails and a jeweled chocker – created from an antique diamond and sapphire brooch that Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, gifted her for her wedding, according to Sotheby's – Diana reclaimed her image in the public's imagination.

GENEVA, Sept 7 (Reuters) - A U.N. expert said on Monday that Israeli clearance of rubble in Gaza could destroy valuable evidence of "atrocity crimes" and prevent the recovery of human remains.
Israel's ****** ault on Gaza — started after the deadly raid into Israel by Hamas in October 2023 — has generated around 61 million tons of wreckage and debris that could take seven years to clear, according to the United Nations.
Francesca Albanese, the U.N. expert on the Palestinian territories, said evidence should be gathered and human remains identified before full clearance started.
She issued a statement headlined: "UN expert warns Israeli rubble-clearing could erase traces of atrocity crimes" and said Palestinians should be behind any plans to remove waste.

French former football player Thierry Henry shows the paper slip of Real Madrid CF (ESP) during the draw ceremony for the league phase of the 2026-2027 UEFA Champions League football tournament at the Grimaldi Forum in the Principality of Monaco on August 27, 2026. (Photo by Valery HACHE / AFP via Getty Images)
Real Madrid learned their opponents for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase on Thursday, as UEFA held this season's draw in Geneva. Under the competition's Swiss-style format, now in its third year, Real Madrid will play eight league-phase matches, four at home and four away, against sides drawn from four seeding pots rather than the old group of four.
This year's draw pairs Real Madrid with Inter Milan and ******* nal from Pot One, PSV Eindhoven and Roma from Pot Two, Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk from Pot Three, and LASK and AEK Athens from Pot Four. It is a mix of old rivals and near strangers, given that ******* nal beat Real Madrid out of the quarter-finals only two years ago, Roma once knocked them out under coach José Mourinho's old adversaries, and LASK have never faced them at all.
Real Madrid go into the campaign looking to bounce back from a run of three quarter-final exits in four seasons, sandwiched around their 15th European Cup in 2023/24. The league phase runs from September through January, with matchday dates and kick-off times still to be confirmed by UEFA, before the knockout rounds begin in February and build toward the final at Madrid's own Estadio Metropolitano next June.
Pot one of the draw brings the heaviest company, Inter Milan at home and ******* nal away. Real Madrid's record against Inter is one of the most one-sided in the competition, eight wins from nine home meetings and four straight victories in their recent run. ******* nal is a different proposition. The two clubs have met just twice, back in 2005/06, before colliding again in the 2024-25 quarter-finals, when ******* nal won 5-1 on aggregate and hold the head-to-head edge from all three meetings.

GENEVA (AP) — Gianni Infantino defied a request by one of his FIFA vice presidents to stay away from an Under-14 soccer event in the Caribbean and instead made a rare public appearance during the global furor over his failed plan to sell future World Cup profits to private investors.
On Saturday, Infantino posted photos on his Instagram account showing the FIFA president meeting political and soccer officials from the Dominican Republic on the sidelines of a Caribbean Football Union (CFU) youth tournament in the Punta Cana resort.
On Friday, Infantino had been asked not to go by Victor Montagliani, the Canadian president of Miami-based continental soccer body CONCACAF, to avoid being a distraction from the soccer games.
"I believe that considering the governance crisis surrounding FIFA as a result of your controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, the media will focus on this situation," Montagliani wrote in an emailed letter seen by The ****** ociated Press, "which will unfortunately significantly take away from the technical nature of the CFU youth competition."
"As such, I respectfully ask you in the name of football to reconsider your attendance as it will unfortunately undermine the technical nature of this important youth development activity," Montagliani wrote.

GENEVA (AP) — A collection of soccer fan groups from around the world launched a petition Thursday calling for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA president after he tried to sell future World Cup profits to private investors.
The petition with the hashtag InfantinOut also calls for "FIFA to be rebuilt so that the current debacle can never happen again."
"The shameful attempt by one individual — the FIFA President himself — to sell off the World Cup to private investors exposed a betrayal football will never forget," the petition said about Infantino's plan for a commercial spinoff, which he dropped amid a furious backlash.
The fan groups include Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa and, in North America, the Independent Supporters Council, plus about 40 national fan groups worldwide.
Infantino has resisted calls to leave office despite European soccer body UEFA saying it has no confidence in him. He has also been criticized by the leadership of North America's CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation.

GENEVA (AP) — FIFA's removal of the senior official who said Gianni Infantino deceived staff with his World Cup sell-off plan was unacceptable, Norway soccer president Lise Klaveness said on Tuesday while urging other leaders at the governing body to resist potentially damaging orders.
The firing of FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour late Monday came 17 days after his statement to the ***** ociated Press criticizing Infantino's $20 billion private equity project that helped to end it hours later.
"Now he is thrown out and we are supposed to move on. It's unacceptable, it's management by fear," Klaveness told the AP in a telephone interview, describing Lamour as "the best football administrator I have ever met."
"Now we also have to call upon FIFA leadership and the administration to not submit to orders you know are not in the interests of football," Klaveness added, especially targeting FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström.
She is a former Norway international player, a judge in Oslo and an elected executive committee member at European soccer body UEFA who has built on her country's long-held reputation as a champion of good governance in soccer.

Pat McAfee is no stranger to drawing a public reaction, negatively or positively. The brash radio host's latest endeavor certainly earned him his share of praise and blowback.
McAfee appeared alongside President Donald Trump at The 2026 Patriot Games at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio Tuesday. After greeting Trump on the tarmac upon his arrival in Cleveland, McAfee also spent time sitting next to the Commander-in-Chief during the event, a four-day competition in which one male and one female high school athlete from each state get "tested on the skills from the Presidential Fitness Test" and "go through a military-inspired boot camp circuit." Finalists will take on an obstacle course "designed to test strategy and skill."
Some X users blasted McAfee, who claims to be apolitical, for hanging with Trump. The President reportedly invited the College GameDay ****** yst as his guest.
One person seemingly took things too far, earning a threat of a lawsuit from "The Pat McAfee Show" headliner.
McAfee has spent time on X Wednesday responding to some of his critics. He's largely appeared unbothered, with the exception of his reaction to a tweet from user financeJonE.

Roughly a thousand spectators cheered as teens Kylie Ritchie of Connecticut and Bridget Kavan of Nebraska ran from platform to platform, swinging on monkey bars and a rope, heaving weights and clambering up a wall in an American Ninja Warrior-like competition.
Among the onlookers was President Donald Trump, who watched the semi-finals and finals of the Patriot Games on Aug. 11. He later presented the two winners — a boy and a girl — with two golden trophies and $125,000 in scholarship prize money each.
Joining Trump inside the sprawling Spire Academy athletic facility located just outside Geneva in Northeast Ohio's wine country were Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and ESPN personality Pat McAfee.
Speaking in a mid-event interview, Trump said the athletes were doing "fantastically well" and that he was looking forward to watching the finals.
"This has been as exciting as everything; I didn't know what to expect," Trump said of the Patriot Games.

GENEVA (AP) — Gianni Infantino truly looked the "King of Soccer," as U.S. President Donald Trump likes to call him, as the two allies sat together watching the World Cup final less than two weeks ago.
Sure, there were some boos inside MetLife Stadium near New York, when the two men walked across the turf to present the trophy and medals to Spain and Argentina players on July 19.
Still, that 104th and final game capped a biggest-ever tournament seen as a vindication for the FIFA president — a consensus success on the field and a financial bonanza for global soccer. Infantino could look ahead to his likely re-election coronation next March.
The sunny scene must now feel an age ago since Infantino caused a seismic rift in global soccer.
The intensifying fallout might shockingly cost the 56-year-old Infantino a job in which he seemed untouchable until this week.

Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel stormed to victory in Tuesday's 26.1km individual time-trial at the Tour de France to shave valuable seconds off Tadej Pogacar's overall lead.
Belgian Evenepoel, 26, blasted over the stage 16 course along the shores of Lake Geneva 28 seconds quicker than reigning champion Pogacar in second.
Everyone else finished more than a minute back, with Dane Mattias Skjelmose taking third at 1min 04sec.
That performance by the world and Olympic time-trial champion -- on Belgium's national holiday -- cut four-time Tour winner Pogacar's overall lead to 4min 32sec.
"It's amazing, it was a very nice TT (time-trial), a lot of people on the side of the road," said Evenepoel.

Remco Evenepoel made it back-to-back stage wins at the Tour de France as he marked Belgian national day with victory in a time trial on the banks of Lake Geneva on Tuesday.
Resplendent in the rainbow bands, the world time trial champion completed the 26 kilometre course in a time of 32 minutes 19 seconds, beating Tadej Pogačar by 28 seconds.
He took a small bite out of the Slovenian's commanding advantage in yellow, now 4 minutes 32 seconds, but more importantly opened up a significant gap over Isaac del Toro in the fight for second.
But it was a bittersweet day for Evenepoel's Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe team as Florian Lipowitz, third overall last year and fifth in this Tour at the start of the day, crashed 6 kilometres from the finish and abandoned with an apparent broken collarbone.
When Evenepoel won Sunday's stage 15 atop Plateau de Solaison, it was his first career Tour road stage win, but this was his third time trial success in the world's biggest race. What was a 58-second advantage over Del Toro is now 2 minutes and 19 seconds.

GENEVA — Chinese government officials are using the United Nations' AI for Good summit in Switzerland this week to, in part, reframe the open-source models that have proliferated in China. The implicit pitch: In contrast to the most advanced US models, which can be restrictive and expensive, open-source AI tools can be a development tool for lower-income countries.
"Open source is good for all countries and all groups and all people, and I believe that is the right direction," Yu Xiaohui, the president of a Chinese government think tank, said Tuesday at a panel hosted by the Chinese government.
Beijing is leaning on its geopolitical allies to advance that vision, as it looks to shape how the technology is governed worldwide and pitch itself as the developing world's AI partner of choice.
Other speakers at Tuesday's session included top officials from Russia and Pakistan, as well as Global South nations where Beijing is making inroads, like Zambia and the Maldives. A recurring theme: The benefits from AI shouldn't be concentrated in a few rich nations.

Mexico's trucking industry is facing a growing driver shortage, with 14% of commercial driver positions sitting vacant as fleet operators struggle to recruit new workers, according to a new survey by the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
The 14% vacancy rate is the second highest among the 18 markets surveyed, trailing only Uzbekistan at 15%, and exceeds the global average vacancy rate of 11%.
The findings highlight mounting workforce pressures in a country that relies heavily on trucking to move domestic freight and support cross-border trade with the U.S.
The report found that recruitment difficulties have worsened in nearly every market since 2021, suggesting driver shortages have become a structural issue rather than one tied to freight cycles or economic slowdowns.
Geneva, Switzerland-based IRU is a global transportation organization with members in 75 countries that represents the interests of bus, coach, taxi and truck operators.

GENEVA (AP) — FIFA’s president Gianni Infantino is being referred to Olympic ethics investigators for a possible breach of political neutrality, a human rights group said Wednesday, after U.S. President Donald Trump helped block a World Cup player’s ban.
Trump took credit Monday for FIFA’s decision — unprecedented in modern World Cup history — to let United States forward Folarin Balogun play Monday against Belgium despite getting a red card in the team’s previous game. A Belgium team clearly fired up by the furor won 4-1 in Seattle.
The IOC cites neutrality among “fundamental principles of Olympism” for sports bodies like FIFA, and has jurisdiction over Infantino since he joined its exclusive group of 100-plus invited members in 2020.
“FairSquare will file a complaint to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s repeated breach of political neutrality rules,” the London-based sports and human rights NGO said in a statement Wednesday.
The pledge to file a formal complaint to the IOC Ethics Commission came one day after the Olympic body’s president Kirsty Coventry told reporters none had yet been received.
