The Chiefs will start the 2026-27 regular season in prime time, with a Week 1 matchup against the Broncos on Monday Night Football.
Kansas City is entering this season with a better outlook, and hopefully with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes finally back on the field after a brutal ACL tear in December. The Chiefs won't be able to ease into the regular season, though, facing a strong AFC West rival right off the bat.
Luckily, Andy Reid made some moves in the offseason to keep the roster fresh. Steve Spagnuolo bolstered his defense with a few namely additions, including cornerback Mansoor Delane and edge R Mason Thomas. And of course, Travis Kelce is returning to Arrowhead, although it could be his last season for the legacy franchise.

The Tennessee ******* ans were awarded three players off waivers on Monday. Among the new additions was cornerback Melvin Smith. The ******* ans also signed safety Terrell Burgess and offensive tackle James Hudson, making five total additions after the initial 53-man roster was set.
Smith entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason. ******* ans GM Mike Borgonzi was already in Tennessee, meaning he isn't directly connected to Smith through his KC days. It's safe to ******* ume the tendencies he searches for in late-round cornerbacks is still in place with the Chiefs, however.
Smith played 47 total snaps for the Chiefs during this recent preseason period. The former Southern Arkansas standout allowed four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown, per Pro Football Focus. He also had six tackles.
The ******* ans waived Erick Hallett II to make room for Smith on the 53-man roster. It was a bit surprising, because Hallett played pretty well throughout training camp and the preseason. He has since been re-signed to the practice squad, so at least Borgonzi managed to retain him.
Smith did not play a single regular-season snap for the Chiefs in 2025. He essentially spent his entire rookie campaign on the practice squad. The Chiefs brought in multiple new cornerbacks this offseason, including former ******* ans L'Jarius Sneed and Kristian Fulton. They also drafted multiple corners, including first-round pick Mansoor Delane. That made Smith expendable to them.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a huge investment in rookie defensive back Mansoor Delane back in April — trading up to the No. 6 pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to select the former LSU Tigers standout.
While Delane is expected to play a key role in Kansas City's defense this season, his full participation in practices at Chiefs training camp was delayed due to a shoulder injury that kept him from taking part in full-contact drills.
On Monday, August 17, Delane took his first unrestricted repetitions at Kansas City's workouts and made a great first impression on fans and members of the media who were in attendance at Missouri Western State University.

Today was the first day of full pads, and the media was allowed to view the usual three periods, which is about 12–15 minutes.
During that session, I spent time hitting each position group, but the groups I spent the most time with were the edges, offensive line, QBs, and skill positions.
Let's start with the DBs and linebackers. Faheem Delane was still working with the first unit at the safety position. He looked really good in the limited amount of time I was able to view him. They were primarily focusing on alignment, depth, and having good eye discipline.
As for the linebackers, TJ Dottery and Whit Weeks were TJ Dottery and Whit Weeks. Nothing more needs to be said. Davion Keys was looking very crisp throughout the individual periods as well.
During the portion of practice where I watched the star position, I was able to see CJ Jimcoily, and he looks like a great fit for this spot. Dashawn Spears is the guy, but it's comforting knowing he has great depth behind him.

Promising Chiefs rookie receiver Cyrus Allen exited Saturday's practice on a cart. The injury happened while he was filling the role of gunner on the punt team.
That has prompted some Chiefs fans to question why in the ****** Cyrus Allen was serving as a gunner on the punt team.
Chiefs special-teams coordinator Dave Toub addressed the issue in a post-practice press conference with reporters.
"I hate to see somebody get hurt, especially on special teams," Toub said, via Nate Taylor of ESPN. "He's doing well on offense and for me, too. He was a gunner and a returner. Everyone is on special teams until they aren't. Everyone starts as a four-phase guy, especially rookies."
Toub added that first-round cornerback Mansoor Delane would also be practicing on special teams, but for his shoulder injury. Toub also said that, once upon a time, tight end Travis Kelce practiced on special teams.

Early on, most vibes coming out of the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph have been positive through three full-squad workouts.
One unfortunate exception has been the status of rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, the sixth overall selection in April's draft. Delane suffered a shoulder injury earlier this summer in organized team activities (OTAs). He was reportedly just cleared for practice as rookies arrived to St. Joseph last week.
Delane has participated in every practice dating to the rookie portion last weekend. He has worn a yellow, non-contact jersey each time.
Speaking after Friday's session, head coach Andy Reid described Delane as in an unusual position of practicing while still recovering from injury.
"He's a tough kid," the coach remarked. "He was a state wrestling champ and all that stuff. Tough kid. He wants to be out there. He wants to do everything. We're not allowing him to use that arm. He's out there playing kind of one-handed. Until he's completely clear, we're going to keep an eye on him."

Rookies for the Kansas City Chiefs will be reporting to the team’s training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph later today. When we are able to see the full squad next week, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane will be among the players under the most scrutiny. Because of the price the Chiefs gave up moving up three slots to sixth overall for Delane, there will be little patience for talk of a rookie curve.
When **** sing his camp, we will need to remember that cornerback mistakes are often magnified, and the position is rarely noticed when a player is performing well. That said, Delane needs to establish himself as one of the best in the league at his position quickly.

According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, exceptional coaching and the return of Patrick Mahomes could help the Kansas City Chiefs win their division in 2026.
"Reid and Spags are among the best at what they do," Patra said of the Chiefs' legendary coaching duo in a recent article. "Any holes on the roster can be covered by coaching. Last year, seven of the Chiefs' eight losses with Mahomes under center were by one score. With the QB projected to return healthy and an easier schedule, Kansas City has the makings of a return to power."
The acquisition of Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III and the tentative return of Rashee Rice for an entire 17-game season should help buoy Reid's offense when Mahomes returns. Rookie additions — including first-round picks Mansoor Delane and Peter Woods — are expected to play a key role in Spagnuolo's new-look Chiefs defense as Kansas City seeks another Super Bowl berth.

Corning-Painted Post senior Cella McLaughlin led the way among Section 4 girls with triumphs in two events, giving her a combined seven state ****** les over the last two school years in indoor and outdoor track & field.
Candor senior Logan Aman also won ****** les in two events, including a sweep of the Class C and Federation finals in the 100-meter dash.

Protests over poor living conditions for detainees at Delaney Hall immigration detention center erupted over the weekend, leading to the arrest of over 80 people, the ****** ociated Press reported on Saturday. Some of the protesters arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are accused of ****** aulting law enforcement officers, obstruction, and threats. But questions remain about whether the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) enforcement policies violate the First Amendment and chill speech on the ongoing public debate over immigration policies.
The crackdown on protesters is not surprising given Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin's statements during congressional hearings last week, in which he took a hard line against violent protesters. During a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing on June 3, Mullin testified that he is "OK with protest," so long as it is done "in a peaceful way, in a legal area." However, Mullin ****** erted, he has "zero tolerance" for individuals who "verbally ****** ault our officers," "go after our vehicles," or "assault our property." "You ****** ault one of our officers, we will find you. We will arrest you," he continued.
While Mullin is right that the destruction of government property and ****** aulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers are both federal crimes, there is no such thing as "verbally ****** aulting" an officer under the law, Aaron Terr, the director of public advocacy at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), tells Reason.
Under the First Amendment, individuals are free "to criticize, mock, or disparage law enforcement officers" who "have no greater right than anyone else to be shielded from offense or criticism," Terr explains. "In fact, the Supreme Court has recognized that properly trained officers are expected to show even more restraint than the average citizen when confronted with provocative or challenging speech."
"The First Amendment's broad protections are essential to preserving the public's ability to criticize and hold accountable those entrusted with enforcing the law," Terr says, which is why speech is generally protected "unless the speech falls into one of the narrow categories of unprotected expression."

MORRISTOWN — No. 3 seed Ridgewood claimed the North Group 4 sectional ***** le on June 9, and and now heads to the Group 4 state final on June 13 at The College of New Jersey.
The Maroons went on the road and took out top-seeded Morristown, 8-7, in overtime to win their second sectional ***** le in four years, last winning in 2023.
Ridgewood senior Katie Adams won the game for the Maroons with a close-range snipe with a minute left in the extra period, sending Ridgewood to the state final.The first half saw the majority of the scoring. Morristown took a 2-0 lead within the first minute, then took a 4-2 lead after one quarter. But Ridgewood stormed back to take a 5-4 lead into halftime, courtesy of three goals from sophomore Delaney McCrone, who finished the game with four scores.
Though Morristown was held off the board for more than 30 minutes from the end of the first quarter to midway through the fourth, the Colonials tied the game 6-6, then 7-7 to force overtime.

Auburn freshman infielder Delaney Aumua announced via her X account that she plans to enter the transfer portal.
The Livermore, California native made 34 appearances this season for the Tigers. She made 12 starts as the Tigers' designated player, with two starts in right field. Aumua recorded a .593 slugging percentage, 16 hits, four doubles, a .381 on-base percentage, four homers, and nine runs. Defensively, she totaled 20 putouts for Auburn.
Her debut for the Tigers came in the 3-11 loss to North Florida to open the 2026 season. She collected her first home run of the season against No. 9 UCLA, which was the solo run for the Tigers in that matchup.
As a recruit out of Granada High School, she was seen by Extra Inning Softball as the No. 21 prospect in the country. Aumua earned two East Bay Athletics League Offensive Player of the Year awards (2023, 2025), along with being named NCS Player of the Year in 2023.
Aumua will now enter the NCAA Transfer Portal with three years of eligibility left in her college career. She joins pitcher SJ Geurin by entering the transfer portal following the season.

The Saint John junior recorded a big win against a senior.
“No matter the circumstances you can still be good if you believe in yourself,” she said.
Tirotta, like many of her high school teammates and opponents, are using the Ashtabula County Tennis Ladder as a springboard into the fall season.
The ladder, started by Heralds tennis coach Todd Nassief, first began in 2012.

Jun. 4—ABERDEEN — A play at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning was the difference in a Class B quarterfinal thriller between No. 4 seed Hanson and No. 5 Avon on Thursday at the Players Softball Complex.
Having rallied from five runs down in the final frame to tie the game, Hanson's Delaney Jarding sprinted from second base to home plate on a batted ball that was bobbled but didn't leave the infield dirt with two outs.
The gamble paid off, as Jarding was ruled to have barely beaten a tag in a close play at the plate, giving the Beavers a dramatic 11-10 walk-off win. Jozlynn Tegethoff provided the game-winning hit for Hanson, which had trailed 7-0 in the fourth inning and 10-5 in the seventh. All 11 of the Beavers' runs were scored in either the fourth or seventh frames.
Jarding, Neecee Suber, Jacey Schoenrock and Rylee Furgeson all recorded two hits and scored two runs apiece for Hanson, which had 10 hits total. Furgeson and Marah Doyle each dive in two runs. Schoenrock hurled all seven innings in the circle, finishing with five strikeouts, four walks and seven earned runs allowed.
Kaydence Metzger had three hits and drove in one run for Avon, though she was also tagged with the pitching loss, yielding three walks and six earned runs with five strikeouts. Rowan Brandt, Rilyn Thury, Brielle Voigt, Pria Sesler and Kensley DeVries all added two hits toward the Pirates' total of 14 hits, as Sesler had three runs batted in and Voigt tacked on a pair. Both teams had four errors.
