At the Cascale annual meeting in Athens on Wednesday, Asif Khan, executive director of supply chain and sustainability at Mondetta, acknowledged the central conflict undercutting fashion's green ambitions: while sustainability demands a long-term sourcing strategy, brands rely entirely on the ability to pivot at a moment's notice.
It's a commercial reality that constrains companies such as his, Khan admitted. Navigating a volatile environment shaped by fast-changing consumer demands, evolving trends and geopolitical instability, brands are unable to offer the multi-year purchasing guarantees that factories need to justify significant capital investments, he said.

Aug 11 (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and Nasdaq slipped in choppy trading on Tuesday, weighed down by heavyweight tech stocks, as investors **** sed a report suggesting the United States and Iran were ‌close to "some sort of an arrangement".
Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif told Bloomberg News that signals from recent days indicated ‌a peace agreement was close, right after Qatar's foreign ministry said Iran-Oman talks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz were in an advanced stage.
Brent crude futures turned lower after reaching their highest level in over a week. Rising energy costs have spurred inflation concerns and complicated the paths of central banks globally.
"When you get some indication of something positive happening — that this war is going to come to an end or some kind of an agreement — you start to see oil back off. Any positive news is better than negative news," said Robert Pavlik, senior ‌portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth.

The Dallas Cowboys have made one of their biggest defensive commitments in recent years on Monday, agreeing to a massive contact extension with All-Pro defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.
Williams and the team have reportedly agreed to a three-year, $105.9 million extension with $101 million of that partially guaranteed, making him one of the leagues highest paid defensive interior lineman. His $35.3 million average salary slots in just above Tennessee's Jeffrey Simmons.
His guarantees are the most at signing for a DT in NFL history. $63.5 million of that deal is fully guaranteed once the pen hits the paper, keeping the star defensive tackle in Dallas though the 2030 season.
The agreement comes less than a year after Dallas acquired Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a first and second-round draft pick. The Cowboys also sent defensive tackle Mazi Smith, their 2023 first-round selection, to the Jets as part of the deal.
Williams entered training camp as one of the Cowboys top priorities for a potential extension according to Cowboys COO Stephen Jones. Those discussions gained momentum during Saturday's practice when Williams' agent, Nicole Lynn, was seen talking extensively with Cowboys senior director of salary cap and contracts manager Adam Prasifka.

ISLAMABAD, July 16 (Reuters) - Attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis this week have frustrated Pakistan and threaten to draw Islamabad into the conflict, complicating any future role it may have as a mediator between the United States and Iran.
Nuclear-armed Pakistan, which helped broker an interim deal last month in ‌the war between Washington and Tehran, signed a mutual defence agreement with Saudi Arabia last year and thousands of Pakistani soldiers have been deployed to the kingdom, alongside a squadron of ‌fighter jets.
Pakistan had already voiced anger about Iranian strikes on Saudi Arabia earlier this year, but regional ******* ysts and officials said the attacks this week had pushed Islamabad's frustration with Iran to a new level as they raised the prospect of a new Saudi-Houthi conflict.
The Houthis fired missiles at Saudi Arabia after accusing the kingdom of bombing an airport under their control on Monday. The cross-border fire pierced a four-year truce but has so far been contained to a single incident.

Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) is one of the most undervalued NYSE stocks to invest in. On June 18, ExxonMobil South Africa LNG signed a heads of agreement with the Zululand Energy Terminal/ZET to supply liquefied natural gas. The terminal will be South Africa's first LNG import facility ‌once built.
This project, managed by a consortium including Vopak Terminal Durban and Transnet Pipelines, aims to establish a hub for LNG storage, regasification, and distribution under a 25-year operational term.
The terminal is designed to provide essential infrastructure to supply natural gas to the country's electricity and industrial sectors. This development is particularly critical as South Africa faces a potential "gas cliff" by 2030 due to declining output from existing regional supply sources, which could threaten industrial operations and economic stability if alternative gas supplies are not secured.
Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen South Africa's long-term energy security and support the country's industrial competitiveness. Both Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) and ZET highlighted that the collaboration leverages global LNG expertise to address the country's growing energy demand while facilitating a balanced transition within the broader energy sector.
