I know picking a guy whose best US Open is R2 sounds risky, but Fils just won his first Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, crushing Tiafoe 6-3 1-6 6-0. His serve is a weapon (94.3% holds), paired with athleticism and a heavy forehand. He's 10-0 in deciding sets this year and 8-0 against Americans.
At 22, he's the youngest French Masters 1000 champion ever—and peaking as the draw opens up. Frances Tiafoe might not have his biggest support system with him before facing Arthur Fils in the Cincinnati Open final on Sunday.
This is because Tiafoe's longtime girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, was in New York as recently as Saturday night.

Broomfield made multiple posts to her Instagram Story at what looked to be a collaborative event with EOS (Evolution of Smooth, a skincare company based in New York) and Ayan's Aces, which is an initiative launched by Broomfield that organizes gatherings of women of color to diversify tennis tournaments.
Broomfield also made an Instagram post on Sunday morning where she could be seen stepping out of a car and entering the event while rocking a revealing, glittering white dress. The post was captioned, "glow was created by eosproducts (vanilla cashmere collection to be exact)."

Arthur Fils charged into the men's final of the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters on Saturday as he dispatched Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4 in a match delayed for 45 minutes by rain and lightning.
In his first ever Masters 1000 final, 22-year-old Fils will play the winner of the all-American semi-final clash between Brandon Nakashima and Frances Tiafoe.
Fils beat Cobolli -- the Roland Garros finalist from Italy -- for the third time in their career series to become the youngest French Masters finalist since a 20-year-old Richard Gasquet in Toronto two decades ago.
The 68-minute match finished with perfect timing as rain began only minutes after the conclusion, briefly delaying the start of a women's semi-final between holder Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula.
Fils said the weather delay that had halted the start of his match as the players took to the court was difficult to deal with.

Francis Tiafoe needed three sets to defeat fellow American Learner Tien and reach the round of 16 at the 2026 Cincinnati Open, and Tien joked with Tiafoe at the conclusion of the match that Tiafoe's recent injury and surgery must have been fake.
"Your wrist is not injured, bro," Tien said to Tiafoe at the net. "Your wrist is not injured. You're lying. That surgery was fake. That surgery was fake. You're lying. You're lying. Your wrist is fine. Your wrist is fine. Stop lying. Stop lying."
Tiafoe laughed throughout the apparently good-natured exchange.
Tiafoe had surgery earlier in the month to remove a cyst from his right wrist/hand, which forced his retirement from a match in Montreal.
Tiafoe will have his hands full in the next round at Lindner Family Tennis Center, scheduled to face second seed Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Tennis star Frances Tiafoe is in demand. The high-energy American has brand deals that span the gamut, ranging from apparel to beverages and vehicles to banking. Each one includes Tiafoe in campaigns requiring photo and video shoots. It's a part of the process the 28-year-old has grown into.
"Obviously a lot of my own time ends up going into that," he tells me ahead of a shoot for Evian's 200th anniversary campaign. "Ultimately I just got to be me and enjoy the process and the fashion part of it, the whole journey of connecting with brands who align with me and my values."
Each shoot requires a little something different of Tiafoe, all worked around his demanding tennis schedule. He says before each shoot, the brands let him know what they expect, allowing him to get is mind ready to approach the day with the energy that's required. "I'm such a fly-by-night guy, but ultimately it is your brand, and you don't want to fly-by-night with it. You got to put spice on it to make it look good," he says. "You have to know what works for you, how you approach it and how much you want pre-shoot. It has been good and cool to see how it has evolved over the years."

The tennis tour is heading into one of its busiest stretches of the season, with the North American hardcourt swing just around the corner. The sport's biggest stars are already ramping up their preparations for the season's final Grand Slam, the US Open. Home favorites Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe have arrived in Washington, D.C. for the ATP 500 event (July 27-August 2).
Meanwhile, another former US Open semifinalist, Jack Draper, has joined the field in search of redemption. He is accompanied by three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.
Shelton has arrived in the US capital after a rather forgettable Wimbledon campaign, where he was sent packing in the first round by qualifier Otto Virtanen. The American has produced mixed results, winning just one match at the ATP Masters 1000 level this season and just five matches across the three completed Grand Slam events.
He has, however, won three ******* les, one on each surface, including two at the 500 level (Dallas and Munich). At the Mubadala DC Open, Shelton, who accepted a wildcard, is defending 200 ranking points after reaching the semifinals last year. He would be hoping for an even better run as he builds momentum ahead of his Canadian Open ******* le defense.
On Thursday, July 23, the American was stopped training at the venue alongside Tiafoe. The players shared a laugh as they put in the hard yards under the sun. Interestingly, Shelton was seen wearing a left-arm sleeve.

We have been on Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenze wedding watch since Wimbledon ended. A big hint that the wedding is imminent is a recent social media post featuring Paul and a few familiar faces, namely his tennis peers Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Reilly Opelka playing a game on grass.
Some of those same faces were just playing on the Wimbledon grass. Though we cannot recognize everyone in the video, it looks like a fun start to the festivities.
Paul did not share any wedding details when asked at Wimbledon. All he would say was that Lorenze was not traveling to England this year, regardless of how far he got in the tournament.

Flavio Cobolli's grandfather came to the rescue to find a house for the Italian to stay in after he beat Alex de Minaur to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, extending his visit to south-west London.
Cobolli reached the French Open final in June and played just one singles match on grass in the build-up to Wimbledon, losing in straight sets to Frances Tiafoe.
However, the ninth seed produced an impressive performance to beat Australia's De Minaur 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 and reach the last eight for the second year in a row.
Asked what he would do to recover, Cobolli said: "Ice cream and today my dad cooks pasta with tomato and onion.
"It's the World Cup so I want to see Spain and Portugal. I hope I can go early to the house but first of all we have to find one.

Taylor Fritz dashed Alexander Zverev's hopes of a grass **** le in front of home German fans after winning 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-5 in the Halle semi-final on Saturday.
The fifth seed pounced towards the end of third set against Zverev, who was struggling with his diabetes. It will be an all-US final after Frances Tiafoe beat Daniel Altmaier 6-1, 6-3 in the other semi-final in western Germany.
Recent French Open champion Zverev, gunning for a second Grand Slam **** le at Wimbledon starting next Monday, has had a good work-out in the warm-up.

Having come on strong in this year’s French Open, Diana Shnaider’s explosive left-handed forehand and double-handed backhand aren’t her only signatures.

The Russian-born player, who is recognizable for her colorful headscarves, is squaring off against Maja Chwalińska of Poland Thursday. Shnaider opted for a repeat look, wearing the same orange headscarf and black Yonex tennis dress that she wore Wednesday to defeat the WTA’s top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. As for her French Open strategy, Shnaider told reporters earlier this week that she was “trying to go match by match.”

The Yonex-sponsored athlete was unmissable in an orange ribbed headscarf that accented the orange and turquoise trim on her black tennis dress with a leathery-looking pleated skirt. It also coordinates with the red clay courts at Roland-Garros.

Born in Zhigulevsk, Russia, Shnaider started playing tennis at the age of 4 and was training under coach Samvel Minasyan in Moscow by the age of 8. After a stint at North Carolina State University in 2022, she competed in her first Grand Slam tournament the following year at the Australian Open. Repped by Topnotch Management, the former Adidas-sponsored athlete has an endorsement deal with the sports media content company First & Red. Her career earnings to date are $5.17 million including $952,112 in prize earnings. This year women’s single winner at the French Open will take home 2,800,000 euros, or $3.25 million.

Her signature headscarf was something that she started wearing years ago to shield the sun. Shnaider’s parents were concerned that the fair-haired daughter would get sunburned on the courts, but caps and visors reportedly obstructed her view. So Shnaider opted for a headscarf that they bought in a supermarket. By 2023, Shnaider was outsourcing the design of her favorite accessory, by buying the material for a seamstress to design. However, for Wednesday’s upset victory, she appeared to wear a ribbed one with the Yonex logo on it. A Yonex representative deferred an interview request to Topnotch Management, which did not respond to requests for comment.
The American men’s singles player Frances Tiafoe copied the look last year by sporting a blue headscarf with white polka dots at last year’s Cincinnati Open. He gave her credit for the choice via Instagram inspiration on Instagram with “New look?? Appreciate u _di_shnaider_ .”
